I ordered the beef tendon and tripe soup. Every component of the meal had a distinct, subtle, and delicious flavor. The wontons had a delicious sesame flavor. The black tripe had a delicious, lightly spiced flavor. The broth had a lovely, very mild heat. The tendon practically melted in my mouth. The noodles were thin and bouncy. This was one of my favorite meals in a while. Plus, service was fast and friendly. Definitely try this place if you’re in Chinatown!

The Chinese food I had delivered to my residence was phenomenal! The fish sticks were outstanding and so delicious. The egg rolls were delicious as well. I’m highly recommend this restaurant if you are ever in the city of San Francisco! I give them 5 stars ⭐️

The noodles and wontons were both so good. The broth had great flavor, the wontons were tender, and the noodles soaked everything up perfectly. Just a really solid, comforting meal. Definitely come here when you visit San Francisco Chinatown!!

Really great Chinese restaurant in SF. The wontons were some of the best I’ve had with big pieces of prawn inside and the eggplant clay pot dish tasted very authentic. Service is also so quick

I had the signature wun-tun noodle soup, which was quite enjoyable. The flavours were accurate, and the wontons were large. The noodles were slightly on the firmer side, but not unusual for the type of noodle. No complaints about my experience here

Hon’s Wun-Tun House in San Francisco is a fantastic spot for a comforting meal. The soups were delicious with rich, well-balanced broth. The noodles had the perfect bounce and thickness, making each bite satisfying. The chili oil was fresh and aromatic, and I highly recommend adding some to the soup for an extra kick. Each bowl came with plenty of meat, making it a hearty option. Service was fast and efficient, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality and portions. It is an easy five-star choice for anyone craving authentic, flavorful wonton soup and noodles.

Freshness in the ingredients. Noodle was soft and tender with a light sweetness. Broth was very hearty and full of flavor. Enjoyed my potstickers especially with the Chili Oil. When a good chili oil is present, you know the food hit niiice 👌🏻 Loved this place. Sweet staff and hardworking. Peaceful vibe and just a great place to dine.

We ordered the Iced Lemon Honey Tea and the Vegetarian Dumplings. The tea was absolutely delicious. It was so refreshing. The vegetarian dumplings were so beautiful and tasted amazing. It was so fascinating that when you bit into them, you could taste each individual ingredient as if it was freshly placed on your plate while also complimenting the dumpling shell. We drove from the coast, closer to San Diego to visit for an impromptu adventure. The ambience was clean and welcoming. They were incredibly kind and quick to assist when we needed it. We are so thankful to them for sharing their dumplings.

Solo dining experience deserves 5 stars! One bowl of wonton mee is the perfect serving for a lunch or after work meal. Delicious, rich, salty, broth with noodles cooked to perfection. I would say a must-visit in chinatown. No complaints with service from me either, they were kind and brought plenty of water refills! I think they recently redid the restaurant and it’s quite modern looking inside now. Note that this location doesn’t serve xiao long bao, that’s the other slightly larger location on Washington.

We didn't come here at rush time so easily to get a table but if come here at busy time; be prepared to get in line. Store is small but really cozy and clean. Foods are delicious and well seasoned. It really gives a taste of a traditional Chinese noodles. Highly recommended. Take out also a good option if you are in rush.

So far the best restaurant I've been to in Chinatown. We got the Shanghai pan fried dumplings, the cucumber peanut salad, pork chow mein, sweet and sour chicken, the appetizer wings, and milk teas. I would easily order all of it again. I think our two top favorites were the sweet and sour chicken (best I've ever had) and the appetizer wings. They're fried perfectly and there's just enough spice. The service was excellent overall and super quick, though they did forget to bring us one of the dishes we ordered (scallion pancakes). Though this was a blessing in disguise because we couldn't have eaten another dish anyway since we were too full from the others, and they didn't charge us for them so no complaints.

Came back here recently after a long break, and this is still a solid pick for no-frills HK-style wonton noodle soup right in the heart of Chinatown. It remains a reliable go-to when I'm craving the real deal. Small space, fast service, busy vibe with aunties cranking out orders—classic old-school feel. The wonton noodle soup hits the spot: clear broth with good pork and dried shrimp flavor (not too heavy), thin egg noodles with decent chew, and plump wontons packed with pork/shrimp filling. The BBQ pork add-on is tender and nicely charred. House Special Wun-Tun Noodle Soup and beef brisket options also receive solid shoutouts. Scallion pancakes are a crispy, flaky winner as my go-to side dish. A couple of small dings: broth can occasionally be a bit mild on seasoning compared to my top-tier favorites, and peak hours mean lines out the door, noisy, quick table turns (great for speed, less for lingering). Parking is the usual Chinatown pain. Portsmouth Square garage is your best nearby bet, or circle for street spots if you're lucky. They take cards now, prices stay reasonable (full bowl + side under $20). Authentic, comforting wontons that haven't changed much in decades. Not flawless, but consistently good and hits the craving every time, still in my rotation.

The Salt & Pepper Wings at Hon's Wun-Tun House are simply the BEST EVER! Perfectly crispy, incredibly flavorful, and seasoned to perfection. Every bite was pure bliss. If you're looking for wings that deliver on taste and texture, this is the place to go. Great Service, Highly recommend!

Didn’t really live up to the expectations (Chat gpt said it’s the very best spot in town for hot soup) but overall still very good. Fish ball soup was great, scallion pancakes had taste of baking powder

I appreciate many things about Wun Tun House--truly, the food here is a delight--but there is one caveat. For a party of six, the restaurant automatically includes gratuity. I personally prefer to reward service based on merit: adequate service might earn the standard 15%, while extraordinary care deserves full recognition. That said, the noodles and dumplings here are genuinely exceptional--flavorful, satisfying, and a testament to the high standards required to thrive in Chinatown's fiercely competitive culinary scene. Service is respectable; I came with tempered expectations, knowing that the focus here is on the food. The ambiance adds to the experience: calm, peaceful, and joyful, allowing diners to savor every bite without distraction. Overall, Wun Tun House earns my recommendation--a place where great food and a serene dining atmosphere meet.

This spot delivers solid wontons that stand out among the competition. The pork and shrimp ratio is just right, and the choice to use chopped pork instead of ground adds a nicer texture and bite. Unfortunately, the noodle soup falls a bit short—the dried shrimp flavor in the noodles is overpowering and throws off the balance of the broth. The pan-fried scallion pancake nails the crispiness but lacks depth in flavor, even the dipping sauce couldn’t save it. On the upside, their chili crisp is excellent and packs a nice kick. The 5-spice tea egg is decent, though not particularly memorable. I wouldn’t recommend the curry fish balls—pricey and underwhelming. The place itself is small but runs efficiently; however, expect a wait during busy hours. Overall, a mixed experience with some hits and a few misses.

June 2025: Stopped by for lunch and sat at a table by the cashier. Service was fast and friendly. I've eaten at the other place a few blocks away on Washington Street. But this was my first time at the Kearney Street store. The menu here is slimmed down. This location mainly serves won ton and noodles. I've eaten the won ton before at the other location and it was very good. I decided to try the lo mein (D5 szechuan sauce over noodles). Unfortunately, my dish didn't look like the photo. I was expecting (from the photo) a dan dan style dish. But I received a pork sauteed in a tomato 🍅 based sauce. Wasn't what I was expecting and it just tasted okay. Would try something else next time. Rating four stars because it wasn't as tasty as I was expecting.

Walking through Chinatown made us crave a comfort food, wonton soup. Hon's looked like it would foot the bill. There is an extensive menu with a variety of traditional Chinese dishes, but we specifically came for wonton soup and scallion pancakes. The wonton were very good and as we had anticipated. The noodles were also a nice texture and thickness. The broth though wasn't as flavorful. I liken it to tasting like dishwater if I knew what dishwater tasted like -- bland and an amalgamation of whatever was thrown in it. Nonetheless, the wonton and noodles were good enough to make up for it. The scallion pancakes are always a must to order when they are on the menu and these didn't disappoint. Crisp, but soft and chewy. The perfect accompaniment. We also ordered a salt and pepper tofu appetizer which was okay. We prefer it to have more fried garlic. Not bad though. Service was efficient and helpful. We ordered right away and the food came out promptly after. They are attentive with refilling water and fulfilling any requests. The wait time was also not bad even on a Sunday. They seem to manage and turn tables quickly. Overall a good experience. Only a more flavorful broth would give this review 5 stars.

Came here on a recommendation from a friend since it was a wonton soup kind of day. We shared dishes and ordered a variety of plates from soups and noodles. We had never had pan fried soup dumplings. The combination of the crunchy texture with the soft along with the sauce was great. It is hot so make sure to take precaution. They don’t serve alcohol.

Decent eatery, large menu & variety of meats for soups, ramen & dumplings. Small inside with table also with some outdoor seating. Food was alright not incredible. But again, decent.

I couldn’t get past the strong bovine hoof aroma from the broth. That and 5-spice from the pork was all I could taste. I got the BBQ pork wuntun soup and pot sticker appetizer. The pork was tough and chewy. There were 4 small wuntuns. The pot stickers were hot and crispy but very small – more like gyoza. The order was piping hot and the service was fast and professional, but the portions were quite small for the price.
