Sutter Station Tavern Alameda Reviews
10/10 Barbara was amazing and so was everyone else!! Great spot to stop by and have a good drink! And meet others!!
They are nice as usual after 18 months I was not there. No more help-yourself-snacks due to Covid. Other than that they have not changed. Respect to you Folks!
Quiet on the day/time I’m here. Comfortable atmosphere. Barb is a great bartender. There are no taverns right on Market St. in the Financial District. Great drink specials all day long.
Great little dive bar with friendly, helpful staff and lots of cool regulars. Good conversation comes standard. Tara and Frank are the best and made me feel at home! New fave for a wanderer like me.
Had a great experience here while visiting SF. The owner was very welcoming and even stayed late so we could enjoy our drinks. Would love to come back. Super cute space.
What a bar should be and in a great location. Bartenders are no-nonsense in a good way. Bouncer keeps the riffraff out. Not very fidi, which I like. Folks go there to drink and keep up with friends. Or at least that's what I do.
Sweet little he in the wall, down to earth right knit family willing to accept anyone in, but a protective bunch...good group of people in cluster, morning and brunch group make a good crowd of hard workers, mid day stays steady, and the evening is nice even keel with a slight upbeat full of financiers, admin, programmers, salesmen, and Service men and women for after work special to go along with a bit of the non working creative types and retired or temporarily in leave and break in search of their next inspiration. Classic feel too it. Give it a try
Aside from the hilariously bad brick wall paper, it has one of the finest bar restrooms I have experienced. It was quaint and homey. Other than that, cool spot and they were open at 930 which really helped out my squad start out the day.
Sutter tavern is the best dive bar on market Street. Owner is great and buys pizza for everyone on Fridays. Cool spot great beers on tap +pool.. what more do you want!?
Friendly Staff, delicous cocktails, comfortable atmosphere and the newly remodeled bar is beautiful. It's a historical San Francisco Hot Spot !!! 5 Stars in my book !
Sutter Station is my favorite bar in the Financial District. One of the few that's old school Frisco. The staff is great and Barbara always has snacks out.
Great simple bar. This is my go-to spot when people in the city want to meet for a drink. It's super close to BART. Friendly bartenders. Good drinks. Decent prices.
Intimate bar with a couple of pool tables in the back. Its hard to find a normal bar like this for an after work drink with a friend. Won't cost you an arm and a leg either. Service is great.
Best place for cheap after-work drinks. The staff are really friendly too. Don’t miss pizza on Fridays (if that’s still a thing)
One if my favorite dive bars. Not so divey but a great spot for downtown drinks. Can get crowded pretty easily given the shape/layout.
Over the years it has been tradition to close the night out here when in San Francisco. Barbara takes care of us always. Just a great place with a great staff that does right by its thirsty travelers!
Nice place 2 go 2 after work. The staff is friendly. It does get crowded. The owner is a very nice person. The inside is nice old frisco style wooden
A great dive bar vibe, but also yummy specialty drinks. We also ordered food from the place around the corner, which took a while so be patient. Also good bites.
Ridiculously nice people 👏 the bartender Barbara and crew so helpful and pleasant especially to out-of-towners. They get all the stars
Lovely bartender who should get a raise yesterday. The drinks are slightly expensive for people who come from outside the financial district but the vibe makes it worth it. Happy hour prices attached
This bar is -- and has been -- my go-to bar downtown after doing errands, finishing appointment's, etc., etc., etc. It is non-pretentious, and, for downtown, has decent prices! Barbara, the owner, has recently remodeled, and, it is so very welcoming! Besides Barbara being very friendly, I found that the bartenders Alexis and Erlinda are friendly as well. But also, besides being friendly, they, including Barbara, are excellent bartenders! They have a back room that has a pool table, a great sheltered outside seating area on Sutter St. in the shape of a cable car, and a little seating area on Market St. (That's right, folks -- you have access to Sutter Station from either Sutter or Market Streets!) that has an opening to the bar so you can get served right from there! And, yes, they have the requisite latest on-line-capable juke box. So check out! I don't think you'll be disappointed! Quite the contrary!
They just had a makeover and holy mackerel is looks good. The ladies here are very nice and always make me feel welcome back. Stop by and have a drink in style.
Nice non alcoholic options.

We called in for a quick drink around 16:30 and already the bar was lively and had a great vibe. We fortunately managed to get two seats at the bar and got drinks ordered without any problems. The vibrancy continued as it's obviously a popular place for both tourists and after workers alike which made for a great atmosphere. We ended up ordering more and more drinks until we left around 20:00, which shows just how much we enjoyed our time (we were originally trying the bar for one drink) !!. Bar staff were great and did an excellent job of keeping everything flowing in such a busy environment.
Oh my gosh! Everyone here is so nice! The coffee is excellent. The selection of beer and booze is excellent. They also have outdoor seating perfect for staying healthy, writing, and people watching.
Sit outside in the cable car. Great beer selection and attentive staff.
Awesome staff, great selection of drinks & 2 pool tables. Dwight & Tiana have a wide & amazing taste in music & will have jukebox throw downs during the early afternoons 🤘🏽 If you are local & looking for a new watering hole, I highly recommend this place. If you’re just visiting, you will be treated as a local & meet great people here.
Gorgeous hidden gem in the financial district! This is a must stop for the area. It made our pride day better by stopping here! Wonderful staff and lovely outdoor patio.
Awesome classic SF bar. So worth the effort. Stop by. Drop in. The best, most interesting people

Good beers. Good cocktails. Nice spot to have a conversation with a few folks. Not super easy to seat larger groups.
Great place to have a good drink after a long day. Great place to celebrate special events. The staff is very good and the owner is the best. Love you Barbara.
This is an after-work bar. It's where you want it to be, a walk from your office that's short enough to be reasonable but long enough to bring the prices down a little bit. The bouncer will smirk a little because you're over thirty but he'll check your I.D. anyway. Sometimes there's a tiny outside-like space in the back that is good for a moment of cigarette, or sunshine, or both. The bartenders will be friendly but not too friendly, and will make your drinks or pour your beer and otherwise leave you alone. Congratulations on your big event / transition / it's Friday / whatever. Don't forget to eat a big dinner! Drinking early can trip you up.
Cool little downtown bar right by the Bart station, me and my lady like going there whenever we're in Frisco. Good selection of beer and liquor. Great staff cool group of people and good prices. Nothing fancy just a cool laid-back bar
The prices went up a bit, but at least it's been very well cleaned up. Glad it's still open because it was our spot to meet up before a Giants game. And yes, it still has a Giants fan vibe 😁😁
Sutter Station is one of those places that I walked past a few times and wasn't sure if I should go in or be frightened. I've been here a few times to throw back a pint with coworkers or wait out a MUNI delay. It's a dive but the staff are great and the prices are reasonable for downtown SF.
The remodel looks great. No doubt it will attract more financial district clientele. Gotta upgrade my opinion from good dive bar to good friendly bar.
I really appreciate this place! The bartenders are super nice and there is sure to be someone there who shares your hobbies. Warning: since COVID there are NO pool tables. So please don't be mad at the messenger 🙏🏾 Go enjoy yourself for a drink and a great atmosphere!
A really cool little bar, we almost walked right past it though. Great cocktails and super friendly staff. If you like your Bloody Mary's spicy, you'll love this place!
A great dive bar on Market, which is still not insanely overpriced like everything on Market. We mostly were hanging out near the bar, so the service was pretty much great. The bartender accidentally made us an extra drink, and did not take it back, but we were okay with it since they didn't charge us. I've come here a couple of times, mostly after work on a weekday. If you're early enough, you get a spot pretty easily. But it pretty much fills up fast, especially Wed-Fri, and on days it can get pretty crowded with no space to move around. You can also play pool here, but usually whenever, I've been here, it's always busy and a wait for the tables. Music is okay, and not too loud. But the bar in general is loud when crowded, so group conversations become less and less appealing as the night progresses. But definitely check it out, especially if you work nearby and are looking for a spot to hang out after work.
Not sure why this is listed as a restaurant when it is just a little downtown bar... Friendly staff good drinks and great prices! We were there on a Tuesday and it seemed a little quiet, but a frw nice groups of ppl having fun.

Solid 3 star. Stick to the specials shot/can and have get another instead. Always welcoming and close to the heart of SF. Leave the corporate world behind and loosen up.
I've always passed by here on the way to the gym. I never imagined I would ever walk in, but a friend of mine invited me out and told me to meet her here. It was welcoming as there are two entrances on both the front and back of the building. I entered through the back and was instantly greeted by a bouncer who almost didn't let me in without seeing my ID first. She didn't believe my age when I showed my ID and she said, "Wow you look young". It's a great place to grab a drink while waiting for your train or bus to come. It's near Montgomery station.
It's ok, but if you go after work it's too damn loud. You can't hear yourself think due to all the customers yapping at each other. I went here once on a Saturday afternoon with my brother and it was a good time, but keep away during regular work hours.
Sutter Station is a friendly dive bar on Market Street. It's a good place to get a drink after work. It's pretty basic, but the vibe is low-key and friendly.
So I have attempted to write this a few times. Since the last time I was here. Full disclosure, I'm a former industry worker. My visits to this location have been absolutely phenomenal based on the bartenders and staff. Top notch. Great atmosphere. My complaint is 25% my fault and the rest to be delegated. I was here a few weeks ago catching up with a friend of mine that I haven't seen in about 2 years. My Ukrainian friend, she can go drink for drink with my 6-ft 10 self. We enjoy each other's company we're having a great time and the topic of Scotch came up, because we had been drinking vodka sodas or evening. And one of the lovely bartenders that was working. We specifically said hey we want to switch to Scotch. Her and I were celebrating a moment and Scotch was appropriate at the time. We specifically told her that we want to do two scotches. I like my Scotch light to med. Highland. I usually go for a McAllen 12 double cast. We both specifically to mention to the bartender, hey we would like to do our next round to be scotch. We would like to keep it in the $20 range. We're not trying to spend a whole bunch of money. But based on the conversation it was appropriate that we order a scotch. My friend prefers something peaty. I like highland. So I said hey can I grab the McAllen 12 and my friend's orders laphroaig 10 yr. Keeping in mind that we made an effort to request a price range. Because I know in San Francisco some places overcharged. For example I get my Macallen 12 at my favorite bar for about a 2 oz pour for 12 bucks. I know that's cheap. Here's my issue. We said this is our price range. I request it the Macallen And it was $31. $31. Want a bottle cost $64.99. not only that it was a 1 oz for. I know different places will do a 1¼ or ½. But this was straight up a 1 oz pour. For $31. When I said hey we like to have something in the $20 range. But then the laphroaig 10 yr was I think $22. And that bottle goes for about $37. The audacity of a place to charge $31 for Macallen 12 double cast. $31 for 1 oz. At $31 per ounce for a $64 bottle. There are approximately 25 oz and one bottle which would net $775 for a $64 bottle. I am pissed off.. I am not accusing the bartenders of scamming me or ripping me off. Maybe they didn't hear me. But I don't want to tell a business owner how much they should make. But making $700 on a $64 bottle of Scotch. And when the guest specifically is not familiar with your prices tells you they don't want to spend more than a $20 range. And your bartender pours a 1 oz pour of Scotch and charges $31. There's a problem. Mine because I'm a former bartender. And my friend is friends with all of us that used to work in industry. And we're just both get human beings. We still tipped 25%. Bartender for great. Food is good. But got ripped off

I miss the old Sutter station. The place has a swanky new bar and I’m sure it cost them a pretty penny. First time going in since the remodel and a bartender also mocked my drink order. Whatever, don’t really care but thought that was funny.
Bartenders were nice enough but brought down the hammer on friend with a one week expired license. “I don’t write the laws.” Was the response, which is fine until that “law” appeared to only apply to us. They only carded my friends and not the other persons arriving. Not only could my friend not order but they made them leave. Not interested in giving them any more of my money.
Bouncer wouldn’t let me lock my bike in the empty parklet. They’ve let me put it inside before, sad changes

I have been visiting San Francisco, since my son lives in downtown area. I needed to frequent to the bathroom due to my prostate situation. I was desperate to use the bathroom. I was relieved to see this place, but devastated when I was thrown out of this place by a bug guy standing there. That changed my beautiful impression I had about the San Francisco.
Door guy is a dangerous individual who harasses women walking by the establishment. Curses at them as well when they speak back. Would never feel safe coming back here again. I'd call the manager but I doubt they care. Beware ladies, this guy is violent.
Super convenient dive bar for after work. Was going for a pint pretty much every day untill the bartender/owner decided to go on a little racist tirade. Won't be going back, pretty sure I won't be allowed back.
