Tanglad Alameda Reviews
This place just became my #1 FAV pho place!!! The food is AMAZING!! Everyone at the restaurant went above and beyond with customer service. I felt so welcomed and cared for. I feel so at home here!! The restaurant owner helped me to cut open a fresh coconut so I can scrape the inside easier. It was delish!! She also packed extra soup for me when I took home some left overs. I really can’t thank everyone restaurant enough. Thank you for making my night EPIC!
My food came out so fast, they must have read my mind as I was walking towards the restaurant. I got spring rolls, which were gigantic and came with tons of peanut sauce. The Combination Pho had a lot of meat in it and was filling and flavorful. The servers were attentive even as it was starting to get busy. Im impatient so I would definitely go back.
Incredibly delicious food served in generous portions. Since I’ve discovered the restaurant last week I’ve both dined in and ordered delivery a combined total of 4x apparently I can’t get enough. The Thai iced tea is huge and I’ve been thoroughly impressed by all of their vegetarian offerings.
Love everything I've tried so far, and looking forward to eating more off their extensive menu. Genie helped me place a large order of spring rolls for a party, and modified the portions exactly to my requests. She even included individual sauce bowls for serving! Everything was so thoughtfully and professionally done. The spring rolls were a huge hit with all 7 trained chefs in attendance, and made hosting easy on me. Highly recommending Tanglad to everyone I know!
First timer here. As a plant-based eater, I appreciate the options and simplicity of the dishes. Fresh bread for the sandwich and a vermicelli that I nom nom nommed all the way to the end. Will definitely be back.
Really delicious and FLAVORFUL Vietnamese food that deserves more attention by the local community. The staff is warm and courteous. Food was amazing. I can't wait to go back and try more items from the menu. Been wanting to try this out for a while but what pushed us to finally visit was seeing this place featured by Rufa Mae by the Bay 😂 5/5 would try this place again
Went for lunch with family. Friendly staff. Cool ambience and warm enough inside seating to escape the freezing wind outside. All the food we ordered were delicious. Grilled pork chop was tender and juicy. It has a smoky flavour so it must be charcoal grilled. Price wise, it is good value considering the big portion sizes. Happy customer.
Really good pho plate and Vietnamese Cuisine one of the best in Castro San Francisco, California. I would absolutely come again there’s literally absolutely no doubt about that. I do think it was a bit expensive for what it was but it is a very prime location I’m sure their rent is not cheap. I have paid approximately $23 for my lunch with two sodas not too bad for San Francisco but not very cheap.
I like how Tanglad serves the food that tastes authentic and clean. Well, the Vietnamese food tends to be clean in the first place, but I feel that Tanglad delivers it in a superior way. Not greasy, not overpowering with flavor. I like Garlic noodle with chicken and the bowls of Pho my friends got look good too. The atmosphere is a plus. Clean restaurant in a reasonable clean neighborhood. This can be my sit-down place for Vietnamese food!
Years later and it’s still the best garlic noodles with the best service. The people that work there are so kind, and the food comes so quickly. The fact they always remember our dietary restriction is amazing.
5 stars for the Bun Rieu. Clean tasting tomato based soup with a fun variety of fishcakes, crab cake, tofu, shrimp, tomato, napa cabbage. Soup becomes even more awesome when spicy, achieved by adding in all your jalapenos, plus your dining partner's. :P Had a taste of the pho which is more run of the mill. Definitely had better. Broth was on the lighter side.
A must visit in San Francisco! We had such a wonderful experience dining here that we came back the next day for lunch! The fusion and creativity of the dishes were an absolute highlight to the taste buds! Steven told us he makes a trip across town to a bakery every morning for the fresh baguettes! Don’t miss out! You’ll thank me!
Server made recommendations as this was my first time trying Vietnamese cuisine. I need to make a trip to Vietnam now. Food was fresh, hot and delicious! Had the fresh spring rolls to start and the lemongrass beef garlic noodles- spectacular! Pity I don’t live in this city, or I’d be there daily.
Easily one of the best Vietnamese sandwiches I've ever had. The pork belly banh mi sandwich was amazing and a great value too. The Thai tea was excellent as well.
Tanglad is a cute little restaurant in the heart of Castro. They have the main seating area inside and a “garden” section with a plant wall that feels like a cozy indoor patio. I ordered the Seafood Combo Pho on a rainy day and it hit the spot! The Pho came with shrimp, calamari, imitation crab, fish balls, vegetables and noodles. It was filling and well priced at $16.50 for what it came with. I will say I wish the broth was a bit more flavorful, but it was still very tasty and satisfying.
Healthy and yum. Especially I like the plate on the picture. I like it with the meat chicken too. The balance and combination; The meet and vegetable and rice, very refreshing special sauce, texture while eating are perfect for me. It’s never a too heavy for your stomach. I get full and stomach feeling not struggling digesting. The atmosphere of the restaurant, price, friendly staff. I always love come here when I travel to SF.
I went to the Vietnamese restaurant, Tanglad for Vietnamese food. The main dish, grilled meat, rice and sliced vegetables, was delicious. Even I was almost full, I ate almost everything including spring rolls. The spring rolls with the special sauce was a perfect combination to enjoy Vietnamese food! You can try it after looking around the Dolores park!
I was looking for a place to eat when I suddenly smelled the best scent of food ever! I walked in and was greeted kindly by the staff. The place is very clean and has both indoor and an outdoor seating option. The food was delicious, with spicy options. I got the garlic noodles and the porkbelly sandwich. Equally delicious. I’m excited to go back and try the other stuff on the menu. Such a great find!
super cute time! i come here every year after a queer ancestors project event and it’s become a nice ritual and way to spend time with friends. my friends were loving the spring rolls. personally? i tore up the chicken garlic noodle (with egg). if you ask for spicy, they’ll do you right every time.
We came to this place for garlic noodles. But it turns out that we like the Pho better than the garlic noodles. The Pho is great. We ordered the #11(rare beef). The beef is fresh and the soup tastes good. On another side, the garlic noodles are way too sweet and not have any “garlic” taste. This may be my personal preference. I chosen the lemongrass beef and that was the good decision. But I like this place overall so still a 5 star.
Undoubtedly the best Vietnamese food I’ve ever had; the flavors are all perfectly balanced. The atmosphere on the patio is excellent.
They served me one of the best things I’ve ever eaten… the pork belly bahn mi is TO DIE FOR! My wife and I had such a crazy reaction to it. Perfect fatty soft and melt in your mouth with amazing flavor, and the bread was perfectly fresh and crispy. I don’t know if I can eat bahn mi anymore because it will never live up to this one. We also got the garlic noodles with beef, which were excellent. You MUST hit this place on your way through San Fran!
Great spot in the heart of the Castro. One of the best grilled pork chops I’ve ever had, highly recommend. The service was great and we walked right in on a Friday night.
Fantastic experience at this restaurant! We ordered the fried imperial rolls and they were incredible. Tasted like they were freshly made before frying. I also got the lemongrass beef with garlic noodles and it was fresh vegetables with quality pieces of steak. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I love this place. It is my go to spot to meet up with my business networking partners. It is central with Muni at the corner. The service is super friendly. The food is wonderful. They opened during COVID and Im happy they made it through. I highly recommended

Came here on a Tuesday night right before Barry's and had immediate seating! Good: - Fast service and good portion sizes - Good pricing, not too expensive! - Loved the bun rieu, it was very tasty and warm and liked the tomato soup and noodle texture Bad: - More casual dine in place - No frills experience Overall solid Vietnamese experience!
Tanglad is located in the heart of Castro District and I believe it's a fussion of vietnameseXFilipino cuisine. I tried their pinoy and It was okay. It's not the best but it's 4 star. I would recommend to go add more pinoyism flavor 😁, like sawsawan, home made drinks like sagot gulaman, pinoys are looking authentic drinks when were drunk. But overall it was okay.
My partner and I stopped by here before going to a show at the Castro Theatre. About 1 hour before doors opened there, there was no wait here which was surprisingly since it's just a few doors down from the venue. Menu had good variety - hot soups, noodles (hot or cold), salads, and sandwiches. I got the garlic noodles with chicken, which was hot (in temperature) be pretty tasty. My partner and I shared and the portion was perfect for the two of us. He also got a Thai iced tea, which was yummy as well.
Whether u order Phó or any of their rice plates…u can’t go wrong. It’s not authentic Vietnamese Phó but a really good modern take that’s also flavorful! 😋😋 Nice indoor/outdoor dining so pets r welcome. 🐶
Yummy! Thai iced tea was good too. Good for a solo lunch spot

Although I got quick, friendly service in this beautiful Vietnamese spot, I was underwhelmed by the lack of flavor in the veggie noodle bowl. Even after copious amounts of hoisin and sriracha, this dish was not the umami-rich comfort food I was seeking on a chilly day. The veggie spring roll was great. Lots of flavors and textures, and the tofu was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I also loved the fresh young coconut they offer, which also comes with a spoon to scoop out the yummy coconut meat. I would like to return, but I will probably just stick with the spring rolls or try the banh mi!
Came with a fairly large group on a Friday night. The place is clean, inviting, and the food was fresh. We had Five Spice Chicken Pho, Beef Pho, Lemongrass Beef with Garlic noodle, chicken with garlic noodles, pork belly Bahn Mi, Calamari, and a bunch of other things. Needless to say we pretty much covered most of it. I wanted to try the Bun Rieu but I was afraid of being disappointed since we eat at many Viet places from SF, East Bay, and San Jose. If you like Ben Tre, Gao Viet, Pho Hanoi, Pho Nguyen, and others like it, you might find the food is not what you're used to. The place is cute, the people are really nice and the food is ok. That being said you won't have a bad meal here. Sometimes the plain authentic dishes are not to other's liking and they prefer an alternative version, that's ok too. Three stars for the food based on what they're serving, not compared to the popular Vietnamese places.

First of all, I want to point out that the name of this restaurant, tanglad, translates to ‘lemongrass’ from tagalog, which I find inappropriate and misleading, considering that this is a Vietnamese restaurant in the Castro. If they wanted to emphasize authenticity of the Vietnamese cuisine, then they should’ve named it sả, the Vietnamese word for lemongrass. Aside from the incorrect linguistic nomenclature, the service was great. The food, however, was unfortunately subpar. The bun rieu tasted watered down, and the vegetables were undercooked. The bun bo hue wasn’t much better. I’d say the egg rolls were honestly the best dish we got. Not super impressed overall.
Ey ey ey this was my first time trying this place and the chicken vermicelli bowl with imperial rolls was so bad. The rolls were tiny and soggy. And the chichen had no seasoning whatsoever 😬
I just had one of the worst meals ever at this place. The "garlic noodles " were bland, one dimensional, sweet and (worst of all) mushy. The spring rolls were stale, sticky and flavorless. The service was pleasant, keeping it from 1 star. I definitely would not return.
Avoid if you are looking for authentic Vietnamese. The service was okay, but I noticed that my table was dirty and just move to another. I ordered the pho, but the broth didn’t have much flavor. Should be fine if you never had authentic Vietnamese. The pork sandwich on the other hand is good, but I probably will not go back.

An overall unpleasant experience. Please take it from an actual Viet person here that this place is neither legit nor authentic. I had the pho with rare steak and meatballs, my partner had the garlic noodles and five spice chicken. Both plates were severely underwhelming and the service we received was rude and off-putting. The pho broth was not very well spiced and the meatballs tasted...off. I can't quite describe why they were off, they just were. The tray of sprouts and basil was sparse at best and insulting at worst: 2 thin slices of jalapeno, 1 sprig of basil with 3 leaves on it. The garlic noodles with five spice chicken was worse. The noodles didn't taste of any garlic and were drenched in a wet sauce, while the chicken only tasted of char. There was no five spice flavor and there was hardly any salt. None of the food was particularly bad, but none of it was particularly good. I told my partner before we came that if the food wasn't good, we never have to come back. After one bite, we both agreed there was no reason to try this place again (to be fair, we've both been here before separately, but I had a craving for pho and I didn't want to go across town.) The worst part of experience though wasn't the food, it was the service. We came in at 8:30pm after both working a long 10+ hour day, and they close at 9, which we knew. As soon as we came in, the man at the registered told us "We close in half an hour, so you have to order now" and handed us menus at the counter, forcing us to make our decision right then and there. No table first, no asking if we were dining in or taking out, no offers of water, just an unceremonious and impatient expectation for us to know exactly what we wanted within a minute of walking in. We get it, you close in half an hour, but if you don't want patrons coming in that late, why bother staying open that late? Friends, beware. If you're looking for good Vietnamese food in the city, there are far far better options where dishes are authentic and taste how they're supposed to, where service is better and staff don't make you feel unwelcome.

I asked the young female employee for a spoon, and she said, "It's in the bag." I replied, "There are only forks here." She handed me the spoon, but as she did, she pushed my hand away. It was very disrespectful. And she admitted her mistake and apologized to me. I threw the food straight into the trash. 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 I am also a food delivery driver, and I have previously left a review about the same person at this restaurant. She is a very rude person. If you don't want to work, you can leave; you don't deserve the money you're getting. i think she tought i don’t speak english. that’s why did it 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮. i’m going straight to jack in the box
