Barcelona Restaurant Albany Reviews
I met with my girlfriends for a celebration dinner tonight and was so pleased with our experience. The atmosphere was wonderful and we enjoyed a fantastic meal. I had the rice and beans with chicken and couldn't have been more impressed with how delicious everything was.
Food was delicious, service very good with friendly & knowledgeable staff. Excellent in all ways possible.
The service was unbeatable. The servers, bartenders, and hosts/hostesses are the most professional, kind, and accommodating servers in the Capital Region. Very attentive. I sat down, took one sip of water and it was immediately refilled. The restaurant looks beautiful. The climate control is minimal, and the servers were sweating a little from it, but it is an old building and seeing a random modern air conditioner would definitely turn this rustic looking building into a more modern looking building which would not go with the theme here. The food was fantastic. From the bruschetta, to the veal Parmigiana, to the tres leches, to wine, to the fresh bread. It was nothing short of perfect. Although I personally did not use the restrooms, the people who were with me did and they said the bathrooms were very clean. I believe this establishment is every bit worthy of a Michelin Star.
Excellent service! Food was fantastic. I had one of the specials, a halibut dish with risotto, my husband had one of the specials too. It was a New York strip steak with chimichurri. Our son had the swordfish. Everyone was thrilled with their meal. It was our first time there and we will definitely be back.
During our short stay in Albany we decided to visit the Barcelona Restaurant. From the very first step in to our leave everything was great. The hostess and our waitress were very sweet, knowledgeable and helpful. The food was big in portions and delicious. The atmosphere itself was really amazing too. It is a bit on pricey side, but the whole experience worth it. If I were in the area, would definitely come back.
Such a wonderful dinner! My boss & I simply loved our meal; from my perfectly sautéed tuna and veggies to his Zuppa di Pesce! Everything was great, including our servers, Brian & Justin who were so helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. I can't say enough about the Mediterranean music playing in the background. It's so key here as it really creates an atmosphere that makes you feel like you're actually in the Mediterranean. 5*!
It's been year since I've been here but the food and service has been always great. I always liked getting the veal Daniel but today got the salmon special, great choice. It was in a lemon dill sauce and included vegetable medley and mashed potatoes.
Liz was amazing we had a large party this evening and we are a bigger Italian family and she did amazing!! To every ask and every request she was on it with an excellent attitude!! Thank you Liz and deff recommend this restaurant! Food was amazing!!!
Just a Great Place to Eat! I've been an Albany area resident all my life and never had dinner at Barcelona prior to now. We got lucky with no reservation and were seated right away. It's a very nice atmosphere, white tablecloths and sweet surroundings. Our server Anne was superb. The orders were for chicken, clams and mussels, and scallops. Each dinner was very tasty, done just right. The sauces were excellent, no need to expound further. I hope this wasn't a freak visit. When I return I want the experience to be the same.
Great food, and great atmosphere. They're drink list is excellent. My main compliment is our waitress. She was EXCELLENT. Very attentive and knowledgeable and helpful.
I went to celebrate my birthday to this amazing place. A great spot with delicious Spanish dishes - the paella is a must-try, and the service is warm and attentive. As a birthday present they gave me the most delicious cake.
We showed up without a reservation and they worked to get us a table for 5 (3 adults, two kids). Our server, Danielle, was great... knowledgeable and kind, and she went out of her way to accommodate a gluten allergy. Food was cooked perfectly and we had a great time. We will be returning!
Had a nice meal here..I love the eggplant parm...good size portion, tender thinly sliced..I've had their veal Damiel in the past and that was very good as well. The server was very knowledgeable and made a wine suggestion which was so good they sold out. Sat at the bar after dinner for another drink..lots of available seating and the bartender was great. Parking is somewhat limited as their little is very small. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. The only negative was restrooms were on the second floor which after knee surgery was difficult.
One of the top fine dining spots in Albany. The elegant setting makes it ideal for a business lunch. Exceptional food, attentive service, and excellent value.
Needed a place to eat outside and found this hidden gem. An old house turned restaurant with a second floor deck, atmosphere and food were amazing!
We had a luncheon event here for 30 people. Minerva, the owner, could not have been more accommodating! The bruschetta and caprese salad appetizers were wonderful and a great prelude. I’m going to use the word wonderful a lot! We had a choice of 5 entrees one better than the next. My favorite is the tuna with pesto olives, artichokes, etc. Their tres leches cake, one vanilla one chocolate are to die for. I realize that a party of 30 may not be representative, but we have done. There are many times for lunch or dinner and it is superb. Treat yourself!
Table for 2 by the door with the heater in my right ear wasn't working for us on a chilly night. The owner and hostess recognized our discomfort and were able to seat us elsewhere with a fabulous waitress. Our meals were perfect, service was tops. Highly recommend the filet. The reduction sauce was delicious. In addition, we had special coffees at the bar after and again...great service. Thanks Barcelona...we'll be back asap and promise to make our reservation earlier!!!
Had a wide variety of dishes from mussels and escargot, to butternut squash ravioli, paella, lamb, and seafood Alfredo. Everything was stellar and it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Highly recommend - service was also excellent.
I was there for an event; it was a large party and James our waiter never missed a beat. Every dish came out hot & the pitchers of margaritas were wonderful.
The food was really good. We had a lunch meal which was seafood Alfredo . I loved the portion, ambience and host was great!
This is my absolute favorite place to grab lunch in the Capital District . The food and service are absolutely perfect. Highly recommend.
Visited for dinner while in the area for business and very glad to have done so. All to often restaurants just lump things together creating a mush of tastes without distinction. This is not the case here. Dinners were served hot and well portioned. Each item with distinct flavors and textures which complimented the entire experience. The menu is wide ranging with a nice European Spanish flare and a nice selection of wines. Our waiter Gavin couldn't have been more polite and pleasant. A job well done and memorable time. We will definitely stop in again if we are in town.
Wonderful lemon martini while waiting for our gift card. Staff were amazing!!!! Merry Christmas
The atmosphere is charming and takes you back in time. The food was excellent as usual. The service was outstanding; Rima was friendly and efficient. She had patience with the four of us who were celebrating a birthday. Her sense of humor made the celebration more enjoyable.
Food was delicious, staff was very friendly and accommodating. Fast service, especially for the food to be made freshly. Each entree comes with a house salad that is very good. The bread with the dipping is also amazing. My wine was also pretty good, but would’ve been better cold. Atmosphere was very welcoming and comfortable. I would definitely go back again.
Great service, Good food. Enjoyable atmosphere. Serving sizes were large, the paella is big enough to share.
Barcelona Restaurant was a wonderful and elegant way to end a perfect leaf-peeping Saturday! Our food was delivered by a very pleasant and knowledgeable server named Mallory. And the food...Wow. Wow. Oh Wow. We devoured the friend shrimp with Thai chili sauce, pan-seared salmon, and filet mignon, washed down with red wine and Prosecco. We didn’t have reservations, but they had seats left on the balcony. That was great — we got to admire the colorful trees across the street on campus of the University of Albany.
Recently had a great evening out after taking a long hiatus from this restaurant. Food was excellent. Service was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere was pleasant but got boisterous from a large table, but not obnoxiously so. I'd gladly return soon. The lemon chicken dish was phenomenal.
An absolute stunning evening. Getting reservations can be tough at some of the more popular local restaurants, but this was my gift to my wife for her somewhat delayed Mother's Day gathering, and when I called the owner immediately got on the phone and made it happen. My wife was very pleased to see that paella was on the menu, and loved every bite. We had recently been to Madrid, Barcelona, and Mallorca, and this paella stood head-to-head with the best that we had in Spain. I was also wonderfully happy to see that they have gluten-free options, including the pasta, which I loved so much. I literally ate every bite, and I never finish an entire meal! Dessert was amazing, as was the selection of wine for my wife, and our son enjoyed his meal and the ambiance thoroughly. We can't wait to come back again and again. Five enthusiastic stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was an amazing place to go and eat dinner. I went with a large ground of my friends (8 of us total) and we shared wine, family style food and many laughs, all the while the waitstaff and other patrons probably listened in with crazy looks. Every request we had was met and the food was all incredible. For a great upscale experience with top notch people and personalities, I highly recommend Barcelona Restaurant and want to personally thank everyone there that made our night special. At the end of the night they even made sure we were all getting home safely as well (thanks Uber!) - this was appreciated and smart on all parts. 10/10 would go back here again for a great dinner.
This restaurant was phenomenal!! The ambiance was nice, laid back vibe, perfect lighting, friendly staff. Sat at the bar for a drink while waiting for our table. The bread with olive tapenade was very tasty! We ordered the muscles in a creamy garlic sauce as an appetizer, and it was so good we ordered more bread for the sauce. I ordered the seafood alfredo dish, which came with shrimp and scallops. It was absolutely delicious!! My bf ordered the Zuppe de pesce, which was delicious as well. Pur server Brian was very attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu. I can't wait to come back here!!
This place has just become my favorite restaurant in Albany. I’m Ukrainian so seeing the spinach white bean topping on my salmon reminded me of my childhood. Very traditional European style! The serve/bartender was the sweetest woman ever and she made the best sangria martinis!! I will be back soon!!!!
This is a an excellent place. The food is always amazing. The wine was exceptional. Service was friendly and efficient. We had reservations so mo wait. Highly recommend.
WOW, Barcelona is definitely a place to visit. Nice Venue, Amazing Food, and the BEST Customer Service. Order anything at this place and you won't be disappointed. Enjoy 😊
Amazing Spanish restaurant with a warm, romantic atmosphere. The food is full of flavor and clearly made with care, the portions are just right, and everything feels authentic.
Came from out of town for a family event. Our previous night pick was mediocre at best. We arrived with no reservation on a busy night and they made room for us upstairs. I cannot put into words how good the service was and how great the specials are. Escargot, veal, seafood and steak at 1 place that is amazing. Check out my reviews, I don't give amazing, lightly.
If you are in or passing through Albany, NY this is a must. Lovely atmosphere, excellent service, crafted cocktails and delicious food. Its a special blend of Mediterranean and Italian. Highly reccomend!
When my wife and I visit family in Albany and stay at a airbnb we try to make our way to Barcelona restaurant. One time we were so close we walked. Nice neighborhood to stroll in. This restaurant has a upscale feel with a relaxed atmosphere. We normally sit at the bar and enjoys drinks and have appetizers .the bartenders we encountered have been really good. The appetizers amazing and we will be back!
Love this place! Server was super helpful with a great sense of humor and excellent knowledge of the menu. The fried green tomatoes were out of this world delicious. My only complaint is that this restaurant is not very handicap accessible. The stairs going on are steep and there is no ramp.
The upstairs outdoor patio was perfect for a sunny summer luncheon. Traffic noise made conversation a bit difficult. Service was with a smile and perfectly prepared gourmet dishes were served. Overall would highly recommend Barcelona Restaurant.
This is our top #1 place with the owner Minerva being so wonderfully kind. She is always here to greet you and she and her staff makes you feel like you are at home. We’ve been going here for years as it’s walking distance from our house. A wonderful homey and delicious, mouth watering fresh Mediterranean food. The atmosphere is very cozy and inviting! They even have a tapas menu. This place is perfect! Oh and let’s welcome their new bartender Belia. We think she is wonderful! Here is a small poem that represents her warm personality: At Barcelona, where the spirits gleam, Works Belia, a true comedic dream. With a shaker in hand and a quip on her lip, She mixes laughter with every sip. Your drink's poured with flair, your worries all fade, As Belia the bartender sets the stage. A punchline for every clink of a glass, Making every moment a humorous blast. We absolutely just love this place! Call for a reservation for lunch and dinner!!
pleasant surprise. bar menu w tapas preferable to sit down. bar and table seating. inviting interior. competent staff. free bread w olive oil, refilled upon request. portions for tapas were almost entree size. stuffed pepper was excellent. extensive wine and beer and cocktails. parking lot close to full. a foolproof option in the area.
I was here for work for the week out of town, chose this restaurant, very cozy beautiful atmosphere decorated for christmas. It was only me so I chose to sit at the bar because I didn’t want to take up an e tire table, they were so nice and offered me a table many times. Sam at the bar took my order. Her and Nina chatted with me for a little kept my company and still managed to help people. it was flawless, I wasn’t rushed, and the Salmon ala Barcelona special that was suggested was excellent. No skin on the fish, came with a salad, bread and olive dipping sauce. so good. Definitely recommend.
This is was a wonderful culinary experience! Our waiter (I believe his name was Brian) was so nice and attentive. We shared the Tilapia Perez. It was perfectly cooked and was served with buttery lobster sauce. The bread and olive oil was to die for and I don't even like olives! Even the little salad that came with the entree was great. The prices are a bit higher, but it's worth it, especially for a special occasion. If you share a dish, it's very reasonable, since you get quite a bit of food.
It was my brother's birthday today and we celebrated with friends and family at this lovely restaurant. Service was amazing drinks were on point I had a choco tini (taste like chocolate milk with a kick, not to sweet either) for appetizers we had calamari, bruchesetta and chirzo sausage with chick peas all on point taste, warm, and delcious, fresh bread was also great with the oil and seasonings I think there were capers and green olives. For entree I got the seafood Alfredo (scallops, shrimp, and crab) with fettuccine nothing to complain about I ate the plate clean lol. Everyone else said nothing but great things. All and all will recommend to anyone whos looking for a nice cozy restaurant this is it. *Photos included*
The food at Barcelona is consistently fresh and delicious. Though we didn't take a photo of it, our appetizer was fried calamari that was light and very tasty. For our main courses, we had Red Snapper Veracruz and shrimp in a garlic sauce. Our server Mallori was pleasant, efficient, and provided very timely service. We have been to this restaurant many times and have not been disappointed.
Came here without a reservation last night and they very kindly squeezed us in at the bar. We’re so glad they did because the food and drinks were delicious! Fantastic service, nice atmosphere. Will definitely be back when we’re in the area again. Chicken paella and butternut squash raviolis pictured :)
Food was good but the dessert was divine! Staff have a tendency to "disappear "
Everything was perfect out on the rooftop deck! It was a brisk, end of the first nice Saturday of spring, evening and there were two servers for about six people outside, so my needs were well taken care of... And the chill kept my excellent martini, just the way I like it! The menu was tempting all the way around, as was the wine list. I settled for the filet, that was served with a deliciously thick pan sauce and a bottle of wonderful Spanish Rioja. The wine came to the table, right along with a few crusty warm rolls wrapped up in a basket. So good with the oil and herbs and a nice salad of mixed greens. Wow! Then the filet was served and the meal was nearly perfect. My filet was a touch overcooked (the high end of medium, instead of medium rare), but the time it took to make this pan sauce paid off and the meal was perfect. So perfect, I decided to order the coconut flan for desert! It is a Spanish restaurant after all. It did not disappoint. With dollops of whipped cream and a wonderful sauce, I'm in heaven. The bottle was nicely packaged for the trip home and the evening was a perfect welcoming of summer warmth and fun. Thanks for a wonderful evening Barcelona! * <-- here's your 5th star! If you are wondering what to do for this star, get the second floor, outdoor deck, stabilized, so that something terrible doesn't happen. That entire structure was weather weary and creaking 'n moving like no tomorrow! The railings, I don't believe, would take the impact of a man stumbling... I'm sure this project was already on your list. Thank you again, the fresh air out there on the deck, is perfect.
Calamari were too chewy, but the breading was well done and presentation was good (maybe they just had poor supplies of high quality calamari at this time of year?). The salad was very small but fresh ingredients were used. I had the 'blackened talapia special' which was done with a tomato based sauce over rice, and this was excellent. The service was OK, no major issues. Overall it was good food and I would go again.
Very nice and friendly staff. Food was delicious although we opted to order from the tapas menu. We had the battered fish and their pizza, just a quick bite. Will definitely recommend.
Four stars for the atmosphere. The food was good, but overpriced for what it was. $30-some dollars for mostly rice is a bit much. However, the atmosphere was great. Service was great. For someone who dines in the city (NYC) these prices were just too much for the location and the meals.
The food at this restaurant was delicious, and I would definitely return for the flavors. However, I had to request that two of my dishes be reheated, as they arrived cold. Despite this, the staff was kind enough to accommodate my request, and the quality of the food made up for the inconvenience. Recommended if you're looking for good food, but perhaps with a little patience for the service.

The sangria was delicious. The salmon special- really good! I was surprised a family was seated at the table next to ours(during covid)- even though there were many empty tables throughout the restaurant. It was probably 6 ft away..but I was just a bit panaroid TBH. The tres leches cake is amazing! A nice place for date night
Having been to the Barcelona multiple times, I can say that the food is always great. They are well crafted dishes by a chef who is obviously experienced and puts care into his dishes. That being said, the most recent visit to the Barcelona left something to be desired. While the waitstaff was polite, the service speed was abysmal. For two people, with a reservation made, it took us at least 25-30 minutes to be seated, another 10 for our drinks to be taken, and at least another 15 before our order was taken. Our waitress couldn't answer any questions I had about dishes, or drinks. Two parties had come in after us, and received drinks and salads before us. As well, a larger party that had already been served before we arrived received a full second course before us and the other two parties which had arrived. As the waitress came to collect their plates, I watched as they asked her for another order and she took it. We assumed that bread was offered, and it was, but we were not asked if we would have liked bread until after we ordered Bruschetta (because we thought they, in fact, didn't offer bread). At one point the chef himself began serving tables. All-in-all, it took near to 2 hours before we finally received our meal. As said before, the food was great, it always is, but the glacially slow service and inconsistent waitstaff really killed the positive energy which would otherwise be an amazing place for a date. The head of the waitstaff, which is the chef's wife (I believe), was visibly frustrated with her workers. It didn't appear to be particularly busy, but with a reservation to wait as long as we did not only for our main course, but bread and salads nonetheless is egregious. I am assuming that they are having trouble finding and/or keeping competent waitstaff, and it shows. I love the food but it will be a while before I go back.
First time being there on Valentine’s Day, newlyweds, me and my husband were super excited to have our very first Valentine’s Day dinner there. Made reservations about two weeks ago. Upon arrival we were taken to our seats at the entrance of the second floor, I requested to have seated away from the entrance but the host denied immediately saying they had arranged seats in advance even though we were one of the first guests to arrive there and it wasn’t packed even until when we left. I tried to be in good spirit because it was a special day but I knew my husband wasn’t happy. Appetizers were alright and basic, we were mostly excited for the entrée but to add more to our disappointment my husbands tilapia dish was way to salty and my seafood paella was under seasoned with clams that smelled and tasted very bad. The waiters were doing their basic job, but wasn’t so professional at all. This has to be my first Spanish restaurant I ever went to that served like we were just another customer and cared very little for our wish and visit. if the food quality was good, I wouldn’t be here complaining, but it was the small things that really made me come here.
The food, dessert and the waitress were great. Our appetizer was fried calamari and I got the salmon, rice and a side salad and the boyfriend got the red snapper and mussels with rice and a side salad. The fish was tasty, the rice had room for improvement. The waitress was very nice. But the hostess left us with a very bitter taste. When I originally called for reservations she simply just said hello? No introduction and I had to ask to make sure I was calling the right place. One of the few two person tables were right in front of the emergency exit. Which is a huge fire hazard. When we asked if we can be seated in one of the two other tables. She immediately said no and that it was like that due to covid and left. Her tone was was harsh and not very hospitable. Bf asked the waitress to move again and said if that’s not possible we’d simply leave. She moved us and the rest of the evening was good. Towards the end of our meal when all the other tables were filled. The host then sat someone in that same table that she denied us. We were only ones that weren’t caucasian, might I add. Food was around $100 which truthfully wasn’t worth the price. Good but will not be returning.
The staff are friendly and dedicated. The restaurant inside is nice but outside on the balcony needs a lot of work, it is so unfortunate because it has so much potential to be equally as charming as the inside. Why not put candles/lights on the tables/ railing!? The food was just OK, it reminded me of something you'd get at Applebee's or a similar chain which is also unfortunate becuase its not a cheap dining experince price wise but the food quality doesnt match that. The gin tonic was horrible as well, could barely taste the gin and the tonic lacked carbonation. The 3 star is really because the host and waitress were great.
The bruchettta was yummy! The other entries were just okay. However, the service was poor. We never got a check in once we took our first bite. The server also forgot about our drink order, which was disappointing. The table next to us was having the same experience.
The infamous calamari was surprisingly light skinned as Steph Curry but fried properly and delicious. The Lamb Chops were insanely tender. The sauce that comes with the dish was a very nice compliment. The veggies were mid but the potatoes were an excellent side. The swordfish was the surprise favorite for me. Swordfish is usually overdone and tough, but the chef knew what he was doing and served us A super fresh fillet seared to perfection. Again, the side veggies and even the rice were underwhelming, but the star protein hit the spot. They surprised us with a Free slice of white chocolate thres leches Cake for my wife's birthday. Nice touch. And it was bangin. I drank a few of their spicy ghost pepper mixed drinks and the wife had that coffee martini drink that everyone has been out of their minds about. They serve good strong drinks here and I hate a weak pour, so I was happy. I'll be back to try their paella and some wines.
Edit: good food but when they’re busy they can’t seem to handle customer service well. I asked an employee at the front if I could get an order a to go at the bar and a drink and was told they couldn’t accommodate that because they were so busy. There were multiple seats open at the bar before the of 4 party behind me interrupted us and said they were just going to sit at the bar and the employee I was speaking to said “go ahead” and let them push past me to sit at the bar. She then told me to hold on and walked away, so I left. Pretty disappointed, will no longer be where we take guests when we visit. That has now changed to 677 Prime who had always accommodated a to go order and a drink while we wait no matter how busy they were. This restaurant doesn’t seem to be handling the influx of customers as well as others in town. It’ll be a while before we give them a chance again. Original: Best sangria in town! Super affordable for high quality food. So happy to find this place and I’m upset it took me a year of living here to find it. Also a cute and quaint atmosphere, this will be where we bring guests who come to visit in the future :)
I’ve been going to Barcelona restaurant for many years. If you asked me 6 years ago I would have told you it was my favorite local restaurant. I’ve usually had great experiences over the years. I just dined at Barcelona for the first time in months, I had an early dinner with my wife only an hour after they opened. To start off it was absolutely frigid. The staff let us know the heat was on but would take a while to heat up. Not a huge deal but we had to leave our jackets on and wasn’t very comfortable. Next, we ordered an appetizer and received the complimentary bread with olive oil. The appetizer was the mozzarella ala caprese, which was okay. The bread on the other hand was not fresh, in fact it was stale and hard. Next we received our meals, the food was not up to par. It was lacking flavor and did not come out hot. It seemed like it was re-heated and poorly at that. For reference we were the only people in the restaurant at that time besides for a couple at the bar so there is really no reason the food should have been cold or not fresh. To top it off there was a loud and belligerent waitress on her phone yelling obscenities. Just unprofessional. Our waitress was attentive and provided good service. All in all, it was a very disappointing experience. Although this was once my favorite restaurant this experience has completely turned me off.
SO SO, expensive for what it offered. My son had the Tilapia with the lobster sauce and it was very tasty. My wife had the red snapper the sauce and vegetables where lacking taste and spices. They brought us 4 pieces of day old hard bread to enjoy with butter and a tasty concoction of green and black olives, but it did not make up for the hard bread, The salad was mediocre mixture of lettuce raw onions and 1 slice of cucumber the dressing was lacking in inspiration. I had a Little neck soup???? this was not a soup it was 12 little necks in a tasty sauce of garlic, tomatoes and wine it was good but the toast that came with it must have been wonder bread because it became limp and mushy and did not add to the dish, AND IT WAS NOT A SOUP! For an entre I had the chicken paella, HORRIBLE, the chorizo was who knows what hot spicy sausage, but it was not Chorizo, the chicken was flavorless the yellow rice tasted like boiled rice with almost raw pieces of green pepper thrown in the mix with mushy peas! all for the paltry sum of $146!! If you want Spanish food go elsewhere this place has no clue what Spanish food is like.
The seafood paella wasn’t good, the customer service was terrible because once i told the waiter I didn’t like it the lady from the front came up to me and said no one ever complains about the food and was arguing with me about it and told me it was my problem that I didn’t like it , and then after that another waitress came up and said that they served that dish multiple times that day and they liked it and the waiter messed up our drinks order. My friends also didn’t like their food. It taste like it was frozen and reheated.
Spoiled food and unprofessional service. I treated 10 people to this restaurant and the eggplant parmigiana had stale cheese. When we alerted the waitress she told us rudely that this recipe had been made for years and dismissed our concern. When we asked for tea and asked for sugar our waitress would groan and sigh acting like we were being unreasonable. At the end I shared my disappointment and was told that my group was difficult. Won’t be going back and recommend you don’t either.
I came there with a reservation and I was seated at a table that was literally set on the corner of a wall near the bar, staff and customers were squeezing by.These antics were because they were obviously not used to seeing my kind, a black man come there. My request for better seating was met by seating me not far from the entrance of the establishment. Secondly the food was subpar. The only thing good was the service of the waiter and the wine.
The service was great. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment. We had the chicken paella. It was incredibly bland. My impressions: the rice was cooked well, the vegetables were overcooked, the chicken was tough, bland, overcooked cubed chicken breast, the chorizo tasted like mild Italian sausage of low quality had been substituted. The paella overall was bland. The salad that came with the meal was limp, and smothered in what tasted like bottled vinaigrette. The wine was served too warm. I cannot find redeeming qualities to the meal. I would be embarrassed serving that to people and charging money for it, even more so to pretend it's a representation of Spanish cuisine. Someone needs to be doing quality control in that kitchen and have a 'come to Jesus' conversation with the chef. That said, the proprietor was apologetic and comped the meal, we left a good tip, and I sincerely hope they can turn things around.
Our waiter gave us a great service and was very pleasant, we can’t complain about him, but the food wasn’t the best. It was lacking of salt and flavor. The portions for the price were extremely small. From the time we got sitting to the time they came to offer us water took the 50 minutes. They gave us a pieces of paper as a menu, but the table next to us got a very nice presentable menu. I don’t know if it was because we are Spanish or what was the excuse. But it’s no a place I would recommend or visit again.
This restaurant is awful—I do not recommend! Our server added a 20% gratuity on our bill for our party of 2, which my partner and I thought was weird. We called the manager to complain about this a year ago and the manager thought that this was weird and discriminatory (what our server did to us with pre-charging a gratuity which the server claimed was restaurant policy…it wasn’t). The manager promised to send us a gift card to remedy this issue about a year ago (incident occurred on June 27, 2023), and we have yet to receive that gift certificate! Save your money when it comes to here—there are other much better, affordable, tasty, and non-discriminatory restaurants located in Albany!
I rarely write negative reviews but.due to the expense I must? As an appetizer we has bruschetta which consisted of previously toasted, now refrigerated, cold bread with tomato topping. Very off putting. . My salad was swimming in dressing and inedible. The Seafood Paella was actually gross. The seafood was not fresh. It all tasted as if it was old improperly frozen food. The chorizo was freezer burned. The rice mushy under seasoned and not prepared properly. Traditional Paella rice should have crispy. My overall felling about my food was that it might have been leftover from another day and recycled. Yuk. I was unable to eat it. I took it home in a container then threw it in the trash. My friend said her salmon was okay but also agreed that her rice was mushy and under seasoned. Total spent i$106 plus a $20 tip. I’m now home and waiting for a delivery of wings because I’m starved.
