Waited for more than 1 hour. Fancy and unique drinks and service from the bartender, told them what you like and they would create special drink for you, no food service. Waiting in front of the entrance is strictly not allowed

Probably my personal favorite bar in NYC. The vibe here is super chill, the bartender would come to your table and ask about your preference, and make a custom cocktail for you. Of course, if you know any classic cocktails you want to try, just tell them what you want and you will not regret. As for something in general best for their drinks, I would recommend something fruity, either light or heavy on alcohol. The first time I ordered something with Whiskey but fruity, they gave me the Gold Rush and it was fantastic. Maybe it’s because of winter, they added strawberries in the Gold rush, which is really smooth and awesome. For classic cocktails, I would especially recommend their Sidecar and Penicillin. Their sidecar has a strong fragrance of Brandy and citrus. It is strong but not overwhelming. Probably one of the best sidecar I’ve ever had. Their Penicillin is really outstanding as well. The peated whiskey itself is strong, but honey within it makes it really smooth and easy to drink. If you really hate peated whiskey or ginger, I would say you can pass this. Otherwise definitely give it a try! The only thing is that it is super popular. It is normal that if you come at 10:00 and you need to wait to 1:30 to get seated. You don’t have to stay to wait, but you need to arrive within 15 mins when they call you. I would recommend come here EARLYYYYYY and get seated earlier. Definitely a recommended bar in NYC!

Absolutely wonderful place. Some of the best cocktails I’ve ever had, and they create them effortlessly and creatively with such skill and nuance. The staff were still supremely knowledgeable and attentive and generous. Highest recommendation for any cocktail lover or equally for the cocktail-curious. I also recommend going as a group of 3-5 and getting a booth if you can. It’s an intimate and not overly-loud atmosphere too which makes this place that much more lovely.

We make it a point to come here each time we are in NYC ! It's been a few years now but still was as good as I remember. The bartenders are always friendly, and welcome ideas as to what type of drink you would like. My favorite this visit were the tiki drinks, but they can make just about anything you dream up! The space is small, so plan to wait for a while. We put our name in, and wait at another local until there's a spot available. Can't wait until next time.

This is a classic speakeasy with great bartenders. Whatever drink you order will be among the best you’ve ever had. No menu, name it they make it and in some cases they have a variety of different ways and combinations, like with our 3 individually unique “old fashions”. Prices were higher than I expected. Quality over quantity and a great intimate setting.

One of the great cocktail experiences of my life. I went a few blocks away earlier and their cocktails were good, but kind of without a soul. This place definitely made up for it. Went for a drink. Stayed for four. The world needs more places like this.

M

PHENOMENAL! Both of us had 4 cocktails each. They were all some of the best we have ever tasted. The bartender listened to each of our likes/dislikes and tailored the perfect drinks for what we were feeling. Fast service and cozy atmosphere. We were impressed that the drinks were only $23 each. We expected $28+

There was no wait because we came on a weeknight. Very crammed near the bar but overall great atmosphere. There is no menu, but we were told most of the classic cocktails are available. We chose to let our bartender get creative, and he was AMAZING!! Just give him a general idea of what you're looking for, and he will blow your mind. I went for something citrusy and my friend asked for something smoky and spicy. Both were phenomenal. I usually don't like cocktails that are "spicy," but my friend's drink was so good that it changed my entire impression of spicy cocktails.

There is no set menu..The bartenders are really talented and nice..As long as you clearly communicate what you want, you can get really creative drinks. We tried almost 4-6 different drinks and everything is great.

J

This place is fantastic. No menu, tell them what you like and they create. Servers are very knowledgeable. Only downer of the night was the guy at the front door, who is obviously pissed off at life and takes it out on the guests.

Fantastic no menu speakeasy that lives up to the hype! We got there 10 minutes before it opened on a Saturday but ended up on the waitlist. We finally got to go in about an hour and a half later, but it was well worth the wait. There is no menu, so the bartenders will ask you what kind of drinks you like/what kind of drink you want and will come up with something matching what you ask for. They were spot on with all the drinks we ordered, and they all turned out great. The bar was crowded and we had to stand for a while, but the drinks were worth it. Here’s what we ordered and what they made: Honey and whiskey -> Cointreau chartereuse four roses bourbon honey (“The Stark”) Light with absinthe -> egg absinthe gin elderflower (“sunflower”) Light and playful -> almond tequila lime passionfruit (“inner child”) Mezcal and whiskey -> mezcal whiskey pineapple (“bow and arrow”)

Attaboy was delicious but the food and drinks were very expensive for small portions- I think there is better Korean food at much more reasonable price points in NYC. That being said, the cocktails were excellent. We also loved the beef tartare, sunchokes and fried chicken.

N
Nic Garcia

A wonderful experience. Such a classic spot, required for any cocktail lover. No menu, just do a vibe check with the bartender and they’ll make you something. The owner of the bar created the penicillin, my favorite cocktail, you probably shouldn’t leave here without one.

Wow! We were just wowed by this place! I think the max they allow is a party of 4 since we didn’t see a table that could seat more than that. It’s a small place. Get in line when they open and put your name on the list if you can’t get it. They are very prompt with calling you if you are on the list and be in the area if possible. It might take a few hrs to get the call but once you get in, it’s totally worth it! The vibe, concept and the drink are amazing!

Visiting this bar was truly a remarkable experience. I've been to several cocktail bars all over the world, and the strategy of having no fixed menu doesn't always work out. This is not the case with Attaboy: the staff were excellent at providing recommendations, cocktails were perfectly balanced, and the music was just at the right volume. I am a big fan of spirit-forward, bitter drinks and I had three of them! Each one better than the last. Definitely on my top 5 in NYC.

Went here a few years ago. Obviously part of the fun was finding and knocking on the blank grey door. The very nice host came out and chatted to us while we waited for a space. It was a Saturday night and the people in the place were good fun and my wife and myself really enjoyed the ambience and the crowd. It is very small, but that didn't really factor In to things. My wife isn't a huge drinker, but she loved the cocktails that the barstaff made for her. Stumbling out at 5am and taking the 6am M train back to putnam Ave made us really feel like new yorkers for the day (visiting from Scotland).

Went on a Saturday night with my wife. We put ourselves on the waiting list and we had a call back almost 3 hours later. The waiting was worth it. Excellent cocktails on a great little spot. You need to tell bartenders what you like for them to prepare you drinks (and they really know how to tackle your asks!). It is a bit pricy compared to Mace, Katana Kitten, etc. Probably because there is a lot of demand for a small place. They have a good selection of whiskeys as well (including some not-easy-to-find scotches from Campbelltown). Will try to come back.

K
Katherine Chin

THERE IS NO MENU. Writing in all caps for folks who ask first, read second. No menu. Chat with the bartenders (who have all been bartending for a stupidly long time) and tell them what you like. They then present you with a surprise concoction that is exactly what you like, and more. Each one will set you back $24, which is a lot, even for New York. Absolutely worth it for a special occasion or infrequent visit just because. Sit at the bar if you can, and get a lesson in masterful mixology. I ordered something with pisco, berries, and and egg white. He turned around with a Rose Pisco, with strawberries, lemon, and some other fancy stuff I don't remember. My friend asked for "the best margarita I've ever had, because all the ones I've had have been terrible." A high bar, but achieved nonetheless. The margarita was savory, refreshing, and a tiny bit spicy. Delicious top to bottom. Would love to come again.

One of the best bars i have ever been to! If you see people waiting outside random gate on a street in the ciity, you would know ts attaboy. Usually there is a wait and that too a couple of hours. We got ourself in line around 6 pm and they called us back at 1030. Very intimate, speakeasy vibes, no menu bar 6you tell bartender what do you want to drink and he will work with you and make something which I think is pretty cool. Def worth the wait. We had negroni, mezcal and rye whiskey

E
Ellen Brigitta

Cute little hidden bar with no menu. The bartender will create something according to your request and it's good! The space is very limited but the ambiance is nice and you wont expect it from outside.

Awesome speakeasy style cocktail bar in NYC. The drinks and experience never disappoint when you're at Attaboy. This was our first trip to the NYC location, had visited Nashville a few years back and wanted to try the original. You'll need to get there early if you want to get in as there's only 25 seats inside. We got there when they opened and still waited 2.5hrs to get in. The doorman suggested getting there at least an hour and a half before they open for a chance to get in right away. Once inside the vibe is chill with great music and low light ambiance. The bartenders really take the time to listen to what you like and will craft you an out of this world cocktail. Definitely recommend checking it out if you're into great cocktails. It's worth the wait.

super solid spot cocktails. classics with a twist. Mikey and Steven know what’s up - tell them what you need and they will deliver. we got a martini and negroni with a twist and 2 other spirit-forward cocktails. cool vibe inside too - lounge feel and great date or spot with a girlfriend. hidden entrance and you might need to wait in line but worth it if you don’t mind a short wait. I’ll be back.

A wonderful cocktail experience. The lack of a printed menu and the tailoring of each round to your tastes is one of the best innovations in cocktails. The bartenders all have a deep mental library of recipes and can not only find a great drink for you but explain its history and influences. A wonderful time.

Ok, so my friend’s brother, who is way cooler than me, told me about Attaboy. This place is LOW KEY, hear?! If you’re not intentionally planning to come here for cocktails, then you will likely overlook it. It gives very much exclusive energy. Like, the cool people club. You truly have to know about it to find it. In fact, you can’t even just pull up and walk in. No ma’am. When you arrive, you have to knock on the door, ok? It’s giving, “Wizard of Oz”, when Dorothy and them pulled up to the Wizard’s spot. They had to knock, first! Like, you have to knock if you wanna come in. Don’t play with them lol. So, we sat outside because at the time, they were doing reservations only, and if you didn’t make one to sit inside, then you were gonna have a seat outside lol. It was totally fine though. They had a nice outdoor set up, which actually made it more noticeable that there’s a bar here. Without those tables, you’d have no idea. So, one of the most exciting parts took place after sitting down, ok? Listen. Our waiter comes out, greets us, and proceeds to ask us what we like. A menu? No. No menu. Let it go. He asked what kind of drinks I typically like, from sweet? to more dry? sophisticated? and so on. I usually go for a more dry, dark liquor cocktail, but knew I was getting 2 drinks, so decided to switch it up for my first drink. I told him I wanted something bright, with whiskey (my spirit of choice). He then asked more questions regarding what I like and don’t like, so that the bartender could pretty much tailor a drink to my liking. This was beyond impressive. This guy KNOWS his.....stuff! Ok? The memory, the attention to detail. He didn’t write anything down at all. It’s very impressive and I don’t think people realize just how much work this takes! These people are knowledgeable and deserve lots of credit. Ok so, he brought out my first drink and described it, beautifully! It was called a western sour. It was made with whiskey, sugar cane, freshly grated nutmeg, and lots of other delicious ingredients. It was a beautiful, mixologist cocktail, and tasted bright and smooth. It had a nice, large ice cube and a fancy straw. I mean, I truly was blown away. For the next drink, I told him I wanted to go in the dryer direction. I gave him more details as well, and he brought out an old fashioned. It was the best old fashioned I’ve ever tasted. Just so smooth and sophisticated. I was partially drunk by that point, so I forget the ingredients, but it was so well done. These are the types of drinks that I don’t mind paying extra for. You’re also getting a wonderful experience for the price. It’s beyond impressive, and I plan to go again. Good, mixology-worthy drinks are not easy to come by, so I appreciate these gems! Attaboy is MUST!

What a wonderful little gem, absolutely worth a wait. Walking through the curtain was like dying and going to cocktail heaven; just describe your perfect drink and you'll get it. Fruity, sweet & sour; smoky and spicy; traditional & old fashioned; ridiculous frufru tiki drinks, they did it all and they were all the best we've ever had

H
Hardy Ferentschik

Great cocktails bar. First found it a bit dark, but then adjusted to the light and music and it was just right. We were a party of three and had three rounds of cocktails. No menu, you just tell the bartender what you want and he does his magic. Never been at a place where the drinks match so well what you describe. I went from whiskey (Old Fashion style), to Gin (fruity, refreshing) to Mezcal. All three drinks were perfectly balanced. Focus is not on looks, but flavor.

X
X Tong

Absolutely fantastic, they don’t have a menu so you just describe what you want. I’m modify some of my favourite cocktails by adding my favourite ingredients and deleting something that I don’t like , so it’s come out to be the perfect “my cocktail”.

P
Paul Ampunun

The bar's interior is intimate, seating approximately 28 guests, and features exposed brick walls and minimalist décor . The ambiance is complemented by attentive, skilled bartenders who ensure a memorable experience.

S

I mean this is literally the best bar in the world. You can sometimes find reservations on open table. Otherwise I would go at 10pm to put your name in and drink here at the end around 1pm. Be prepped to get like 3-4 and always try to sit at the bar.

C
Cindy Hao

love the concept. no menu — you tell the bartender what you like and they do their magic. we got two rounds and did really enjoy the experience came in on a monday at 7pm and there was no wait. we got standing room and were moved to a table quickly. on the pricey side (it was prob $25 a drink) but def worth coming at least once

A
Abby

It really is that good. The fool’s errand sour is the best cocktail I’ve had, and it magically appeared just by me describing what I like and don’t like. There’s no menu, no food option, no grammable decor, and just the good drinks that everyone is there for. Highly recommend getting there early - I was there right after 5:30pm on a weekday night, and it was already crowded.

a
andrew m

The stories are true: the bartender will ask about your flavor palette and curate a drink accordingly. Chris was an absolute surgeon nailing the flavors! The best bartender of my life! He nailed every single note and feeling I had in mind! Recommending this place to all of my friends that end up visiting NYC. The Bartender of your dreams is here!

S
Silvia Mella

I had heard about this place for a while, and last night, my girlfriend and I finally decided to check it out. As we walked by, we asked about a seat, and the kind doorman informed us there would be a 15-minute wait. He took my phone number and called me as soon as the seats were available—a professional and organized touch that I really appreciated. Once inside, both of us were pleasantly surprised by how charming the space was. The bartender was incredibly professional and creative. There’s no set menu, so we simply described what we were in the mood for, and they crafted two personalized cocktails that were spot-on, 10/10 to our taste. This place truly stands out for its attention to detail, cool atmosphere, and exceptional customer experience.

R
Rachel Leyton

We waited 2.5 hours to get inside. But it was so worth the wait. They make sure they make you a drink you'll love. They don't have a menu and it feels like they are making a special unique drink just for you. We love Attaboy and will wait again and again if we have to.

J
Jackie sullivan

One of the authentic feel speakeasies.. the door used to be harder to find which is the only downside but the service and experience was so good! No cocktail menu.. they just make what you like and make it for you! Everyone in our group liked different things and all the cocktails were insane! Slightly on the expensive side but 100% worth it as a treat! We went on a Sunday and got a table for 4 straight away.. would probably book ahead if you can as its small!

P
Peter Farejowicz

Attaboy truly deserves all the hype and awards it has earned (and possibly even the price tag). Getting a spot here is tough, the first time we tried, we had to put our number down as they only call back not text but we eventually bailed. This time around we went early and were lucky enough to get a booth table near opening without waiting. The interior gives classic speakeasy vibes with dark lighting and a prominent bar wall of various bottles. Ordering here is an experience itself, instead of a menu you describe the type of drink and liquor you want and the staff does the rest. Because of this everyone in our group loved their drinks. Everything was spot on and tasted delicious. If we had more time we would have stayed longer and ordered more rounds. A must see in NYC!

K
Knotty Scotty

We’ve slowly made our way to all of the top 50 bars according to the New York Times in the North American continent. We’ve yet to go to Mexico, but as far as the United States is concerned, Attaboy has absolutely topped our list in terms of experiences and cocktail craftsmanship. We had Dave as our bartender and he was able to hone in to our particular taste, as diverse as they may be, with precision and with absolutely delicious tasting classics. This has been our #1 spot after having been to 6 other NYC bars as well as top bars in California, Arizona, and Chicago. This is going to be a lasting memory, and the notes taken along the way will stay with us forever. Appreciate you Dave, and good luck in nursing school. Your genuineness and appreciation for the craft is going to stay with us forever.

M
Matt Brown

Very cool experience - the concept is no menu, bespoke cocktails. Figure out what mood you’re in, what spirits you like, how you want it served (on the rocks, up, etc.) and they’ll create a cocktail for you and tell you what it is. Small place though, maybe 3 booths and then bar seating. Probably 25-30 people total. Recommend getting here early, right when they open, especially if you’re a group of more than 2. Speak easy vibes. You just kinda stand and wait outside until someone comes out to get you haha. No need to knock. This was a cool spot. Only downside - no menu means no prices. Cocktails came out to be $28 each after tax and tip which is…steep to say the least. Worth it for a one night experience though.

Such a terrific “if you know, you know” drinks spot in NYC. I’ve been to this type of bar before, where you give the bartender a starting point and they mix something from there, but all the cocktails we had there were so well-crafted with complex layers of flavor- it blew all my other previous experiences out of the water. The service was so friendly, too. Definitely will recommend in the future, but only to friends I know will appreciate it… a visit to Attaboy is too good to waste!

D
Debora Dias

Real speakeasy, custom drinks, unique experience. The staff (bartenders and hostess) were welcoming and seemed cool. The average for 2 rounds of cocktails was 22 (w/out tips and tax). We went 10 minutes before opening on a Monday and it had already a line.

Just got into the #8 World's Best Bar, Attaboy! 🙌 I arrived at 6:08 PM and had to join the waiting list, but it was worth the wait. The place is tiny, with only 25 seats, but the mixologists are creative geniuses. They don't have a menu - you can either order a classic cocktail or request a spirit and flavor profile of your choice. My first drink was a mix of gin, fresh lime, orange juice, and cinnamon (plus something else I couldn't quite identify). It tasted like bubblegum and was so interesting! A bit pricey, but the experience was totally worth it.

This bar is ranked highly, and my expectations were matched. I had a Paper Plane,Bees Kness and a tiki drink that the bartender made with his recommendation. This bar has no menu, so you either know what you want, or ask a recommendation. This is a good way to experience new drinks, as the excellent bartenders will ask you and deliver something that matches your wishes. Out of all the bars I hit in New York this is best, and would definitely recommend.

G
Gus Greer

No food, no vodka, no espresso, no menu, no problem! These bartenders blow expectations everytime. Zach, Roger, Q and Mikey have all been amazing every visit I’ve had. I’ll never come to New York and not visit this bar. Can’t say enough good things about this true cocktail bar!

Loved this place! Must go for all cocktail lovers tbh. I was sceptical initially but the cocktails blew me away. Me and my partner went on a Friday night, had to wait outside for about 15 mins then a guy took us in to wait away from the bar. There were three other parties waiting for bar/booths before us. The bartender still served us. We eventually got two bar seats after about 30 mins. The drinks is what made me wait patiently. Exquisite! Here’s what we described: Whisky/gin/rum based drinks are my preference. For the first drink, I asked for something strong and not fruity or floral. Citrusy works. My partner requested tequila based drinks tropical flavored For second Drink me and my partner both requested creamy spicy drinks. Resulted in the most amazing cocktails ever. Perfectly nutmegy and rich. The bartender remembered our individual alcohol preferences. For the last drink, I asked for a creamy chocolate coffee based drink (again I loved it) and my partner asked for strawberry flavored. NAILED THEM ALL! The price for each drink was $25 taxes included.

Super cool bar great cocktail the bartenders are pretty incredible customizing your drinks so in reality the bartenders wouldn’t not make the same drink twice, how cool is that . Highly recommend And thank you for getting us in without the reservation.

What a really cool and unique spot. I don't think they serve food here and we visited purely for "beverages" and had a delightful experience. Our bartender who felt more like a friend was Steven. I'm a bourbon fan and after requesting an Old Fashion I realized Steven had much more to offer me so I turned it over to his hands and he made me a "Base Camp", a "Sherpa" and then finally a *Closing Argument" all of which each one was better than the previous. We were initially greeted and seated by a young man named Roy who stopped by our table from time to.time. I'm telling you that I would go way out of the way again to revisit this place based on this one experience. It's an amazingly small and narrow space with (see photo) even more narrow and tight restrooms. All adding to the overall experience. I loved it and WILL try to return.

Attaboy is like adult Disney Land. They played all my favorite jams and made the perfect drinks to pair. John and Chris are amazing and if you get the chance buy them a shot and tip them fat.

Famed nyc cocktail bar, defenitly worth the accolades. I love the no menu style. I’ve been here many many years ago. And have not been able to get in many times 😝, but got super lucky on my laststop in New York. Had some amazing classic style cocktails that were perfectly balanced, and sometimes You get something you didn’t even know you wanted. All of the drinks we had were perfect, the tiki drink was honestly a dead ringer for a Frankie’s (Vegas) cocktail, which is a great think except it’s twice the price 😆. If you can’t get to Vegas go for it though it’s delicious. I would come back again and again, just make sure to get here early. We had to stand which I would do again because you should always feel honored to get in but some people may not enjoy that. We did get a seat after our first cocktail though! Love you guys, keep doing what you’re doing, thanks for the penecillin! (Didn’t get it this time but it’s probably my favorite cocktail!)

This speakeasy in the LES is a great spot for a chat with a friend or a date night. The inside of the bar is cozy, intimate, and space might be a bit tight for a large group. Service is attentive and kind here. Cocktails are amazing.

We love Attaboy! We'd been here once before and decided to bring my boyfriend's mom. This place does not take reservations and we knew that, so we showed up outside the almost hidden entrance door an hour before opening. Unfortunately, it started pouring down rain 15 minutes before Attaboy opened their door. The staff knew the rain was coming and offered the first few of us umbrellas which was wonderful. However, the umbrellas didn't do anybody any good because it rained so hard. The bar next to Attaboy let us in there to wait until Attaboy opened. I think that bar was called Good Guys and it was a cool place too! All the staff was wonderful at both places. We were worried about who Attaboy was going to let in since we weren't in line anymore, but all the guests waiting in line were accommodating and honest to who was where in line so we got in when they opened. There is no cocktail menu - you tell the bartenders what you like or are in the mood for and they make you a drink! Every drink we've had here was unique and fit to our liking. Your table time is 90 minutes but it's a good amount of time. We love it here!

Truly excellent craft cocktails! There’s no menu, so we ordered by describing broadly what types of drinks we like (as well as ordering specific drinks). Every cocktail was amazing - very creative, and it takes a good bartender to make a drink that’s a little bit different than what I described and still somehow exactly what I like. We arrived around 5:20 on a Saturday, and waited around 30mins to get a table - we waited at the place next door (the host took our number so didn’t need to wait outside) and that spot was really cool as well. This was actually our second attempt to visit Attaboy - last time was much later on a Saturday night (maybe around 10-11pm) and at the time the line went all the way down to the street so we didn’t stick around. So I would definitely recommend visiting earlier if possible, as they don’t take reservations.

Attaboy lived up to the Hype! Nate was amazing to get to talk through different plays on some popular cocktails to find something unique and a knock out. Thanks for sharing your favorite cocktail as well Nate. Cant wait to come back

No cocktail menu, just let them know what cocktails you like and they will provide you with a customized drink for you. 1st cocktail is the Penicillin, that was invented in this bar, 2nd cocktail is Mezcal, Faretti, Branca Menta, and 3rd cocktail is Redbreast 12, Carpano Antica, and orange bitters. They know what they are doing, trust them, and enjoy how these cocktails chefs 👨‍🍳 take care of you 🙂

Easily one of the best cocktail bars I’ve ever been to. There’s no menu, you just tell the bartender what you like and he’ll prepare a custom drink for you. I asked for an Amaretto Sour (which I’m actually really good at making myself) and his version was incredibly good. Lemons were fresh-squeezed and it was perfectly balanced. The person I was with doesn’t drink alcohol so the bartender whipped up a mocktail with ginger and cucumber that was equally amazing. You can tell they actually care about craft and flavor here. Overall the vibe is super lowkey and kind of underground. There was no sign out front. As we were looking for it I saw an old “alterations” sign and a couple stickers on the door that say “please wait to be greeted.” As we walked in, it was dimly lit, cozy, and everyone who works there is chill and down to earth. The whole experience just feels effortless and intentional.

Very cool experience and loved the concept of the bartender creating drink based on your preference of spirit and favorite cocktail (I asked for a tequila based drink that was mix of moscow mule and margarita: they created a masterpiece). Drinks were 25$ each and well worth the price. Service was great and ambiance was charming. Great place for birthday drinks !!

Definitely one if the best bars I have been to in NYC. There’s no menu, just tell the bartender what you want and away you go! Bartenders are amazing and know exactly what you want based on your preferences. Paul was a great bartender and would definitely recommend this bar!

I went to Attaboy for cocktails and had a great experience. The atmosphere is dark, moody, and beautifully designed — intimate and stylish at the same time. The space is a bit narrow, but it actually adds to the charm rather than taking away from it. The drinks were excellent. What I really appreciated is how personalized the cocktails are — you can genuinely order based on your preferences, and the bartenders know exactly how to translate that into a well-balanced drink. It feels thoughtful and intentional, not generic at all. Service was friendly and professional, making the whole experience smooth and welcoming. A great spot for anyone who appreciates craft cocktails and a well-curated vibe.

Always appreciate a good cocktail bar where you get to talk to the bartenders about what you’d like and they come up with interesting drinks for you based on their expertise. I got exactly what I was hoping for here. The bar itself is quite small and def speakeasy vibes. We had to stand first before getting seats even with a res which they don’t have many per night. Would swing by again if in the area and waitlist isn’t too long

Visited Attaboy while I was in New York as it was on the World’s Best Bars list, and it did not disappoint!! We waited a bit under half an hour to get in. The bar is really small, so definitely better for smaller groups. Cocktails are made especially for you, based on your likes and dislikes, and they were all amazing! They were perfectly suited to us based on our personal tastes, and they were some of the nicest cocktails we’ve ever had. The service was great, our bartender was very friendly and helpful, and our drinks didn’t take long to be made. Highly recommend paying Attaboy a visit, and I’ll definitely be going back the next time I’m in New York! 😍

A little bit too noisy but it’s a very interesting experience. There’s no menu and you only need describe what you are looking for. The last one I had was unanimously the most tasty one! It’s a gin-based, creamy, sweet-sour balanced drink with egg white.

Attaboy NYC is one of those spots that lives up to the hype. The drinks are solid, no question. Every cocktail I tried was on point. Well-crafted and definitely not your typical bar fare. Their unique creations will keep you coming back for more. The staff was so kind and super chill. They’re friendly without being too in-your-face, and they definitely know their stuff. Didn’t matter if I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for, they nailed it every time. If you’re looking for a place with great drinks and a good vibe, Attaboy’s a perfect choice. Worth checking out if you haven’t already.

Best cocktails in New York City. Controversial? Maybe. But I’ll stand by it. From the nondescript door to the intimate, hidden vibe, Attaboy feels like stepping into a different world. The space is cozy, low-lit, and beautifully curated without trying too hard. Whoever’s managing the flow at the door — owner or manager — deserves a shoutout. They keep things moving without killing the vibe, and the result is a space that never feels overcrowded or chaotic. And then… the cocktails. Chris behind the bar is the Da Vinci of drinks — tell him your mood and flavor preference and he’ll absolutely nail it. No menu, just trust. Their take on the Undertaker is a must. Spirit-forward, complex, layered — a full-on flavor experience that deserves an award. The Fort Washington? Smoky, crisp, like a campfire in the New Jersey woods — one of the most unique drinks I’ve ever had. If you’re into cocktails, go out of your way to come here. Even if there’s a wait, it’s worth it — and their sister bar next door is amazing too, so you’re covered either way. A true gem. Can’t recommend it enough.

We had an enjoyable time at Attaboy. It was fun to have to “knock on the door to enter”. We had about a 30 minute wait which was even fun since we got to meet a few other people waiting in line. Everyone was friendly and helpful. There is no menu of cocktails here. Just share what you like with the server and they will create something for you. Our server did a great job with the drinks for all in our group and everyone was very happy. The drinks are a bit pricey coming in at $18/drink but they are potent.

This is quite an experience! There is no menu. You need to describe what you like to the bartender! We all like what we ordered. Try to add to the waitlist at 5 and tell them you want to come back around 8! They are great at accommodating our needs!

It was very good. I got in line abt a half hour before they were supposed to open. I was still Abt 20 ppl back. They started letting ppl in abt 15 min past their opening time. It was rather curt & not exactly hospitable manner in which the line was managed. I had to wait one hour even so to be let in just my party of 1. It was worth it in the end. The drinks were good. Just be nicer whoever runs the door.

R

No-menu bar where you order by preference and vibe - drinks tend to hit the mark most of the time and they are boozy by default. Dim-lit and service can be slow but it’s a lean team. Thought it was a cool concept but I wouldn’t rush back.

Fun place. We had the Mermaid Brew, and it was nice and tart and citrus-y. Friendly, and a big screen for games. Probably even more fun when it warms up. We'll definitely be back. Food truck was decent but a bit pricey. Nachos are great, tacos are a bit soggy.

Deducted one star due to the fact that they rush you out. Otherwise, very cool concept and delicious drinks. They ask what flavors and spirits you typically like and then create a drink based on what they have seasonally and it somehow always turns out great! I’d only suggest they use less ice in some of the cocktails they make. Friends and I came and we each loved our drinks flavors. The venue is cozy and intimate but some might consider it too small to enjoy. The booths are nice and it’s low lighting. They don’t allow flash photography to maintain the low lit ambiance. Each drink was $22

It’s so strange as everyone else says in his review. A bit difficult to find it, a quee to wait but very nice cocktails without really asking for something specific. Try it out if you have time to spent.

Great drinks and great service, not the prettiest looking bar but I planned our visit perfectly, we put our name down then ate at torrisi and 2 hrs later we got a call and pretty much didn’t wait. This was our second time trying and the first time we quit at the 2 hr mark but they called at about 2 h and 20 min. I would anticipate a minimum of a 2 hr wait on the weekends. They definitely made exactly what I asked and will hopefully try to be back.

Attaboy was an overall fun and delicious experience, though my party’s expectation was that this bar would be a bit more bespoke per its reputation. We arrived promptly at 5pm and waited in line for about 15 minutes before being sat at what I personally think is the best seat in the house - the alcove area by the front window. The service was outstanding and attentive. You tell your guide what alcohol, vibe, flavor profile, etc. you’re in the mood for and they bring you their creative interpretation. We learned they actually have a menu they draw from rather than extemporaneous cocktail creation (though I imagine this does happen from time to time 🤷🏻‍♀️.) All cocktails are $22 USD.

No wait on a Tuesday around 6:30pm. They did well in marching their drinks to the what we were looking for in the descriptions we have them. At the end of the day, the quality of drinks were consistent with other cocktail bars of this caliber, but it’s a must-go as a NYC landmark cocktail bar. Two rounds for two people ended up around $100 total before tip. Service was friendly too!

It was my first time visiting a speakeasy, and Attaboy gave me a pretty great experience. Although we had to wait nearly two hours since they don’t take reservations, it was worth it. The experience is fun and unique — there’s no menu, so you can describe your drink using any words, and the bartender always surprises you with something amazing. There’s no dress code. Each drink we ordered this time was $23. No food is served here, so make sure to eat before you come!

Jeffrey Thomas

The cocktails are some of the best in NYC, however, there are definitely other places in the city in the same tier. They do not accept reservations and thus it is usually over an hour wait to get in. If you have the time and flexibility, it's worth checking out at least once. Otherwise, I'd say you can get drinks that are just as good at other cocktail bars that either take reservations or have lower wait times.

Speakeasy bar in east village. I went on a weekday night and the waiting wasn't long. Bartender is super friendly and knows what he s doing. Cozy, dim light and retro deco with exposed red brick wall. The prices though are super high. I had a Manhattan with tip for 30 dollars. They accept cards and cash

Unfortunately, at this point this place is all hype and no substance. At 7pm on a Thursday we waited outside for 20 minutes without anyone opening the door to greet us. After a long wait and finally getting in, the two bartenders were overwhelmed and we only got one cocktail in an hour and 15 minutes. We closed out without getting a second cocktail and were hit with a bill for $23 drinks before tax+tip. Cocktails were very good, but absolutely not worth the wait, crowding, and slow service. Go to any of the other cocktail bars with a similar ambiance and where you can chat with the bartenders.

I had booked a seat in advance and arrived with a friend. When my friend realized she had forgotten her ID, after she left I asked whether I could enter out of my curiosity of this bar. Rather than explaining the policy professionally, the doorman responded with contempt and told me there would be “no seat for one person,” despite the fact that many people were waiting in line. What was most upsetting was not being denied entry, but the manner in which it was done. I was not even allowed to join the line and was dismissed outright, as though entry was entirely at his personal discretion. The interaction felt arbitrary, disrespectful, and quite humiliated. I have never felt so disrespected in a NYC bar or restaurant, and I hope management takes this feedback seriously.

H

I was admitted as walk in as standing guest, which was nice. However, for the specific concept this bar has, standing doesn’t work nor does loud music. The service was extremely slow and drinks fell short of expectations which I believe was directly a result of miscommunication resulting from the combo of standing and loud music.

Ambiance: 3/10 Drinks: 3/10 Service: 4/10 Value 2/10 This speakeasy cocktail bar that has been on my list is so overrated. I love cocktails and a really big fanatics of my cocktail bars, some of my favorite cocktail bars are Double Chicken, Martiny’s, Overstory etc. The ambiance here were dinky, musky and cramped and small. All of our four drinks were on the very sour/tart side even though we didn’t ask for that. We had to send one back because it truly tasted like Robitussin cough syrup to us all, very unenjoyable. The drinks doesn’t have the same finesse as most of the many amazing cocktail bars we have in NYC, Attaboy’s drinks were so unbalanced. For the price too, $22 for it to not be well crafted or had a finesse to it- skip. I won’t be back here, it wasn’t an enjoyable atmosphere either. I’m not sure how some people enjoys this place truthfully

Used to be my favorite bar in NYC. Loved their open mindedness, casual vibes with the staff, and experimentation. Took my sister and her bf there and the experience was the complete opposite. The female mixologist with short hair had such an arrogant and close minded attitude. We would request a drink and she would say “I’m not gonna make that” or “that’s not gonna taste good” in a condescending tone. And all we were asking for were mixed fresh juice cocktails or a banana old fashioned (which many other places serve). Used to love this place but that experience left such a bad taste in my mouth I won’t go back. Creative difference is one thing but she was judging people’s taste and being rude.

S
Sally Bill

Drink is good, but failed service. The bar seems to incorporate an inviting atmosphere by having conversations with the customers intead of a menu. But the waiter tonight seemed to hate his job. He got impatient after hearing what I would like my drink to be, and said he just wanna get the job done. I was offended by him even asking if I know what elderflower was. I said of course, and he said “are you sure?” Wow! Straight face, no emotion. I wonder if he would act differently if I didn’t go as a duo of Asian women.

We waited a little over two hours to get in, which wasn’t a big deal since we checked out other bars nearby. But once we finally got inside, it was honestly underwhelming. The space is small, and once you’re seated, you can’t really move around or mingle — it feels a bit boxed in. There’s no menu, which sounds cool in theory, but in practice it’s hit or miss. You just tell the bartender what you like and they make something “based on that.” I mentioned I’d been drinking dirty gin martinis earlier in the night, so they made me a “dirty onion martini.” I kid you not, it was the worst drink I’ve ever had — it had this weird, lingering feet aftertaste that I couldn’t get past. I couldn’t even finish it. After all the hype and the long wait, the experience fell flat. Won’t be returning.

J
Johnny Ye

Fifth time here, always love the drinks. This time we got sat (stood) in their new space that opened recently! Was great to get in without a wait since there’s reservations now. In typical attaboy fashion we stood to start and the hostess assured us we’d get the next open seats. But after an hour and seeing a four parties get seated before us we quickly realized that wasn’t the case :/ might be due to the larger space but it just feels like worse service now and less attentiveness. We felt like sad children in the corner watching everyone walk by us and sit down, just really expected to have a place to sit given that we had a reservation.

E
Emmy Truong

I got asked to change my seat 3 times to accommodate for other guests. Instead of letting a first timer comer/solo guest enjoy their drink, the male server made me feel like I bought a 30$ cocktail to be treated like a cargo animal. Do yourself a favor and go get a drink elsewhere

M
Marina Cooke

I've had wonderful experiences here in the past and appreciate Attaboy's historic contributions to the world of bartending, but my most recent visit was spoiled by a very weird, rude interaction that I had with one of the bartenders. He was extremely patronizing, which was completely different from the hospitable welcome that we enjoyed from the rest of the staff. I didn't say anything at the time because I wanted to avoid making a scene during my friend's birthday, but I did not appreciate the condescension and sarcasm which were not reflective of the excellence that I expect from this bar and which was graciously extended by all of this bartender's more professional colleagues. I almost didn't write this because it was so out of the norm that I hope nobody else is likely to experience something similar... but I can't stop thinking about it because I've never been treated like this before by anybody else in my life.

$30 (with tip) for a Gin & Tonic is absurd!! I wish they made us familiar with the made to order/crafting cocktails concept - we would’ve ordered something unique! We asked the bartender if they had a menu and he said no so we just thought “oh let’s just get G&T” but if they familiarised us with their concept of personalising drinks, we would’ve had a better experience and wouldn’t have minded paying $30 each!

went after work with a group, and from the bouncers to the bartenders, we were treated so poorly. We’re a diverse group — different cultures, backgrounds, and gender identities — and it’s hard to believe that people can still be treated this way today.

J
Jose Escobar

One of the worst experiences I’ve had at any establishment — and that’s saying something. We waited 30 minutes for our call-back, only to be met with staff who were flat-out rude and dismissive the moment we asked a simple question. The attitude wasn’t just unprofessional — it was hostile. What pushed this from “bad service” to “absolutely unacceptable” was watching the staff racially profile an Asian couple ahead of us. They were told they had “already been here” and needed to leave, even though it was obvious they had never stepped foot in the place. The way they were spoken to was disgusting and completely out of line. If this is how they treat paying customers, especially people of color, then they don’t deserve anyone’s business. Do better — or don’t be surprised when people stop showing up.

C
Celia Howell

This bar is super racist. I was in a group of three people and we were waiting by the door. We rang the doorbell and no one answered for at least 5 minutes. A white couple walked up behind us and were trying to help us get in. When we walked away the door was immediately opened for them and they tried to explain we were waiting but as we were walking to the door the guy shut it in our face and let them in. Don’t go here, there are so many other speakeasies in the area that are better.

R
Ramona Lucy R

Just don’t bother. Unless you want to be insulted by the host. My friend and I were left out waiting in the cold when the bar was half empty, only to be told “it’s not my fault you didn’t dress appropriately”. Once inside, we were shoved in a small corner, away from the bar, and told after a couple minutes of being there that “it shouldn’t take this long to order a drink”. Needless to say, we took our money elsewhere. Absolutely disgusting behavior.

H
Hyunkyu Kim

I’ve been a regular here since the Milk & Honey days, but I won’t be returning unless out of town friends really want to visit (though it won't really affect their business). While the bartenders and floor staff remain excellent, the front-of-house experience has become unbearable. The host/doorman is consistently rude and dismissive; being a popular establishment doesn’t justify treating guests poorly. Being a doorman at a place thats popular does not give you that much entitlement. Furthermore, while Attaboy is legendary for creating the Paper Plane and Penicillin, the innovation seems to have stalled. Recent industry rankings reflect what I’ve felt: the quality is declining while the entitlement is rising. Worth a one-time visit for the history, but be prepared for a hostile welcome.

A
Ahaha

Came here on Friday and honestly, I feel completely scammed. No one mentioned that I’d be standing cramped in a narrow hallway for nearly an hour — shoulder to shoulder with a handful of other people, barely able to move. The drink? Just okay. Definitely not worth the wait or the claustrophobic experience.

A
Albert Abello

Not worth the hype. Wait for two hours just to be served a cocktail against the wall. Then after a while if you are lucky you get to seat. A 25$ per cocktail price I expect to at least be sitting, specially if it is technically a speakeasy bar. Cocktails are good and they know what they are doing but just not worth it. Many other places in NYC make good cocktails.

I’ve been to Attaboy 3 or 4 times over the past 5 years and had similar experiences each time. The bartenders are nice and skilled, but the business still relies on a cryptic system with a line outside to put down your phone number with a rude host (I encountered a different host each time, but every time the host was extremely rude and impatient towards everyone in line). For some reason every time I’ve had to wait over an hour to simply put my phone number down. It’s like the host comes out to take one party’s phone number and takes 5 minutes doing so and then goes back inside to leave people waiting in the cold/rain intentionally. They don’t tell you how much anything will cost inside, but it seems to be about $20+ for any drink. After coming for the hype with different friends / people visiting, I would say there’s way more places nearby that deserve your money
