Frequently asked questions about Cuban Shack
Cuban Shack Albee Square Reviews
Best Cuban coffee in town — strong, sweet, and perfect for a morning pick-me-up. The steak plate and steak sandwich are insanely good, and we love grabbing a cafecito or cortadito after grocery shopping. Fun Cuban vibes, colorful decor, great music, and plenty of indoor seating. Total neighborhood gem.
Visiting from D.C., I stumbled upon Cuban Shack and it instantly became the highlight of my Brooklyn trip. The flavors are authentic and full of heart—especially the slow-cooked pork. The place has a cozy, tropical vibe with upbeat music and genuinely friendly service that makes you feel right at home. Portions are generous, ingredients taste fresh, and every bite reminds you why this spot is so popular. A must-visit for anyone craving real Cuban comfort food in Brooklyn!
I came here to get coffee and a pastry with some friends while I was visiting town. The service was solid, if a little slow. That said, we did have a big order. It has room for dining in, and has a cafe feel. This was my first time trying Cuban coffee. It was good! A little sweet for me, but it tasted less sweet after the Guava pastry (lol). The pastry was rich and filled with Guava. It’s almost like a jam (and about as sweet). I would definitely come back to try the other dishes!! I appreciate that they have veggie options — I haven’t seen that at other Cuban places I’ve been to.
Honestly, stopped in to use the restroom. Bought a cortadito and ham and cheese empanada. They were so good we immediately bought all the other empanadas to try. Will definitely come back for a full plate and the sandwiches.
I was aimlessly walking in downtown Brooklyn when I stumbled upon this restaurant/cafe. Also, I was craving a Cuban sandwich and this place is my favorite go to! The Cuban sandwich was absolutely mouth watering and delicious. I didn’t get a cafe con leche to pair it unfortunately. But I will definitely be coming back again.
I’ve eaten at Cuban Shack at least once a week since it opened. Hands down the best Cubano sandwich I’ve ever had in my life. The steak sandwich, empanadas, and yucca fries are just as good. Add onto that a perfect cortadito, there’s nothing better. The space is great for dates and hanging out with friends alike. Great atmosphere. And the staff are terrific, friendly, and real pillars of the community. We’re lucky to have this place.
I discovered this place and it was like finding a little treasure. The sandwich I ordered was absolutely amazing — exactly the kind I’d missed for years. What made it even more special was recognizing some of the staff from a tiny hole-in-the-wall spot near my home that had closed down a while back. It felt like a beautiful reunion, like reconnecting with an old friend. Eating that sandwich brought back so many memories, something you didn’t know you really missed until it was right there in front of you again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Phenomenal experience. The food was 100% authentic. I came across this place when I was walking past through the neighborhood and was intrigued by the indoor outdoor atmosphere. I started off by ordering a frozen Mojito and it was such a nice treat, especially in the heat. It was a really nice size which made it a great value and tasted just like a Mojito. Next, I got a marinated state Cuban, which was so tender. I believe they use ribeye and I could tell that it was a higher quality meat. I highly recommend stopping by everyone inside we’re extremely friendly. This place gives a nice tropical vibe which I really loved
My wife and I recently visited **Cuban Shack** in Brooklyn, NY, and the meal was a true showcase of Cuban comfort food. Two standout dishes were the **steak platter** and the **ground beef platter**, both of which offered bold, authentic flavors that hit all the right notes. The **steak platter** featured a thin-cut, perfectly grilled steak that was tender and seasoned to perfection with traditional Cuban spices. The meat was juicy with a smoky char that complemented the classic sides of *moros y cristianos* (black beans and rice). The black beans were well-cooked, adding a savory depth that melded beautifully with the steak. The crispy *tostones* on the side provided just the right crunch, balancing out the heartiness of the dish. The **ground beef platter** (Picadillo) was another highlight, offering a comforting, home-style flavor. The ground beef was simmered in a rich tomato-based sauce, with garlic, onions, peppers, and a hint of sweetness from raisins. Served over a bed of fluffy white rice, the Picadillo soaked into the rice perfectly, and the beans on the side added even more flavor. While we thoroughly enjoyed both dishes, I have to note that personally, I’m not a fan of dishes that are mostly rice with small portions of protein. I felt like the platters at Cuban Shack could have been more generous with the steak and beef portions, especially given how delicious they were. Overall, though, the flavors were exceptional, and it’s a great spot if you’re craving authentic Cuban fare.
Cute little place with fantastic food . I had the yucca fries and the Cuban sandwich. Too much food for me. And I'm 6'5 280 pounds. The sandwich was delicious. Slow cooked pork a slice of ham and a bit of Swiss with pickle and mustard and Cuban bread. Wow what a treat. The sandwich came with plantain chips . I also had a mango margarita that was also delicious. Nice people nice atmosphere.
Normally my nature is to avoid places called “shack” because they tend to be an amalgam of mediocrity but every now and then I’m forced to reckon with this bias. This bias was shattered at Cuban Shack. The Cuban sandwich was incredible and I’ve had a few in my day, and the Cuban platter with sweet plantains, beans and rice was also very good. We grabbed a frozen mojito to wash it all down and I have to say I’m very glad made this stop. The food was great, the service was quick and the prices weren’t bad.
This place feels like you are taking a trip to Cuba as the setup is reminiscent of something that you would see out there. Where do I begin I had myself the Cuban sandwich. It was really good and flavorful. The plantain chips weren’t the best imo I prefer normal sweet plantains as chips are dried out. I wouldn’t mind coming back here again if I was in the area for a good dish.
We came from Florida for the Day and decided to take a family member here after seeing the Google reviews. While my husband looked for parking, we waited inside seated for about 15 mins if not more (yes, we rented a car because we drove from Washington to Ny on a business trip). Nobody ever greeted us or asked us if we needed anything. There’s was 2 employees working on orders, must’ve been uber eats because there wasn’t a single client the whole time we were there. There’s place was so hot it was unbearable. If it wasn’t because my husband paid $65 for parking we would’ve left. The food was “ok”. I think if Cubans knew how to do frozen meals, this would’ve been it. Too blend to claim being Cuban. Including the ham and cheese empanadas. It had no flavor. The coffee and churros was really good. Overall, not bad but not a place that I would ever crave and go back to. Maybe for a quick bite to eat for lunch if in a hurry and there are no other options around.
It was snowing outside and the set-up inside looked cozy, hence stepped in. It was nice to be warmly greeted by the guys. There was one other couple on the corner enjoying their meal. Ordered the Steak Plate served with rice, beans & plantains and a Cubanito cocktail (Rum BloodyMary). Overall verdict not bad. Worth coming back again to try the sandwiches (few others ordered those).
Eep, do NOT order the fried fish. Truly, if I wanted to get a square shaped filet-o-fish, I would go to Mcdonalds and not pay the $18. The fish was so clearly fried from a frozen square patty, and tasted so tough and fishy! The only thing worth enjoying on the fish plate is the plantains. Yucca fries were really dry this time, the one star is for the pork which was actually nice. It’s a shame because this is our second time here, first time was more than a year ago when we used to live by Cuban Shack. At the time we were amazed by the good food and portion size to price ratio. But I guess we didn’t order the fish that time because I wouldn’t have come back…
