Fools Gold Albee Square Reviews
Great place to get some good drinks. A really great mix of different kind of beer and other drinks. Food is good too. Have been here on a Monday board game night and it was crowded with all kind of people playing, drinking, eating and having fun. Loved the atmosphere
Great spot. Staff is incredible and make you feel very at home. Amazing selection of beers and liquors. I’d highly recommend for a great, chill, neighborhood bar. The fish tacos and wings are always filling and tasty. We are big fans of Roger and Kim.
Love this place. I only get over to NY about twice a year but when I do I try to go here. Excellent beer selection - 29 regularly changing beers plus guinness is always on. Promotes local beer and a decent happy hour. Also has darts. And does food. Located in a very competitive area for bars but right up there with the best. Met up with some friends from Connecticut this week who hadn't been to fools gold before and they too had a really good time. We even met a very fun guy playing darts who said he was the owner of the bar group. Whether this was true or not, we had a really fun time regardless. I'll be back in six months or so no doubt.
Went there for a weekly board game night. Staff is really relaxed and helpful. Beer selection is AMAZING, and rotates regularly. Food is also great. The prices are actually on the lower side for the food, slightly above average for the tap beers, but still not expensive. Plenty of TVs for sports.
Seriously great food. Usually at bars you get the basics at average to decent quality, but Fool's Gold takes it to a new level. Their Mac and Cheese is awesome, but you can add some buffalo grilled chicken to kick it up several notches in spicy flavor, and the staff is super friendly. We'll keep going here weekly :)
Fools Gold is alway on our must do list for NYC! Very nice staff, drinks are reasonably priced and you get to play an assortment of provided board games! We have come a couple years in a row and alway have a wonderful experience! Try the Irish nachos they are awesome!
Very friendly and hard working staff. Well curated craft beer selection. Lost my hat during a crowded evening and they had it waiting for me the next day.
Excellent “local” NYC experience - rotates 30 draft beers and NA’s. Super kind staff🤩
Best bar I found in NYC. Beer range was excellent. Staff were friendly informed and hospitable. The locals and other customers were an awesome group to hang with. With lots of TVs covering every game we wanted to watch and so many boardgames. This bar was like the perfect community lounge.
The craft beer selection is excellent. You can also get wine and cocktails here. Every craft beer is very good described and the staff also knows their booze well! The craft beer tastes really really good! The food was also good (had the melted cheese and the duck poutine). Staff very friendly and attentive.
This bar was packed when I ordered some food at the bar and their system of handing out numbers and getting you the food worked really well despite how full the room was. I’m writing this review to write about the honey sriracha wings. We got buffalo wings, my wife got pretzels, and my brother got honey sriracha wings. I stole about half of his and replaced his with mine. Not that the buffalo wasn’t good, but the honey sriracha was outstanding! I really enjoyed it, and I thought their cocktails came out really well. Solid experience and great wings.
Dan and Kevin are amazing, great cocktails and an 10/10 Guinness
Great bar with good food and a great beer selection. I've visited this place a lot over the years and am always pleasantly surprised at how good and friendly the staff are. Matt, one of the bartenders, is super knowledgeable on beers, both the industry workings and recommendations. I'm a writer and they are one of the few bar/restaurants that actively encourage writers to hang out during the day, a constant struggle in NYC. They also have a great menu and surprisingly quite a few healthy options. The location is a perfect jumping off spot for fun nightlife adventures in the LES. Fun side note; a few years a ago I walked in and had a couple beers with Anthony Bordain. Back when Sunshine was next door.
This place has excellent beer, good and inventive cocktails, and usually at least one very good cider on tap. It can get loud and crowded. Food is good, not overly pricey, and is several steps above typical bar food. Service is fair, often a bit overwhelmed.
We had a big group party here for our cast of a very big animated show and they accommodated our needs as a big group wonderfully and had an incredible selection of beer and food. Dave in particular was very helpful in coordinating our reservation and checked in with us throughout the night to make sure we were having a great time! It was an awesome night.
Fool's Gold NYC is a total winner! The buffalo wings are a flavor explosion, and the staff is beyond incredible – super friendly and on point. The vibes are just what you need for a great time. Five stars all the way! Can't wait to go back!
I've been here a few times. They have quite a few beers on tap. They have a great staff led by the Irishman. I haven't tried the food but if it's like the rest of the establishment, it should be good.
One of my favorite NYC spots. The local crowd and the staff are amazing. Very easy to get to know everybody! Food, beer, and whiskey selection is fantastic, and they’re always changing it up to keep things fresh. Highly recommend for locals and those in town visiting. There’s also different nightly events through out the week (game nights Mondays, trivia Tuesdays, etc) … I recommend the trivia night! Host does a great job.
In a neighborhood dominated by upscale cocktails and gritty dive bars, this classic gem stands out as your reliable, old-school hangout. It offers budget-friendly drinks, a cozy vibe, and satisfying bar eats. Irish curry fries smothered in cheddar? Delicious. Buffalo wings? Absolutely. Irish nachos topped with pork? Mouthwatering. Sadly, the Mexican salad remains untasted. On tap, you'll find Guinness, Mexican lager, and Victory Pilsner, all freshly poured. The laid-back atmosphere and welcoming service seal the deal.
Hard to find any faults with this bar. Was here on a Sunday with a big group. Bartender was on top of everything, the drinks were tasty, and the food was surprisingly good. The chicken fingers were especially delicious, with some very crispy breading and homemade honey mustard dipping sauce. Tons of beer on tap, and a dart board in the back. Would definitely come back.
Great selection of beer. Good music. Area in the front a bit crowded late afternoon Saturday but the area in the back was comfortable with shared tables.
A relaxed, neighborhood type dive bar. It's very casual and the drinks were standard and they had a good selection of craft brews. The staff were friendly - we came for a friend's birthday and they gave us plates, a cake cutter and all of the utensils we needed.
One of the best spots for beer in the city, and a great destination bar that still feels the right amount neighborhood-y. If you’re a self-proclaimed beer snob or a first timer, Fools has dozens of really interesting choices that go way beyond the usual suspects and really elevates local breweries. Great whiskey selection and food too— Great bar if you’re a singleton that’s just passing by, it’s a fun date spot, a perfect choice to watch a game with your buddies, or if you’re planning a party— The staff will really look after you.
Nice bar. We were there to have lunch. Music a bit loud for lunch time and the AC was super cold. Other than that, nice service and good food.
Great atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. The food is delicious and well plated. They have a very wide variety of beer with something for everyone. From sweet to slightly bitter. The staff is very kind, attentive, and are willing to make minor adjustments to their menu offerings to accommodate you. It has become my new favorite spot.
Fun spot to enjoy friends and drinks. Thank you Fools Gold for a wonderful evening
Great bar good vibes and tasty food, what more could you ask for. Was in NY for a few days in May and we made Fools Gold our local bar. Covers all sports events and the Music is good and gets even better when the DJ comes on at the weekend. Big shout out to Ross the Barman who looked after us . We will be back .
Excellent Gastro pub vibes with a deep and well curated beer menu. Large amounts of space at the back for medium sized parties and the food portion sizes are generous for the LES. Solid pub, would again.
This is a great spot to enjoy a glass of craft beer. They offer a wide variety of options from different breweries. In addition, they have a selection of other alcoholic beverages available.
Ah! This place is awesome! Insanely good beer selection as well as exceptional happy hour. Beer prices are great if you're into craft. Fool's Gold offers a nice selection of bites and full plates, and whether you're going for a single drink or a copious amount, you absolutely should get one of the delicious variations in fries. Bar is decently sized, despite looking small out front. There's tons of board games around the bar as well as weeknight events, which makes it a wonderful place to hang with friends and unwind after a long work day. Staff is quite friendly and well versed across the drinks. If you're in the area and looking for a solid bar for tasty craft beer and a thriving (but not wild) vibe, this is your place!
Great beer selection at this bar. If you like 'good beers', you won't be disappointed. At least 30 taps, plus good can selections to add to that. The bartenders are cool and easily approachable (...what's up Wayne & Sean, LoL). As far as food goes, I haven't tried most of the things on the menu, BUT, they DO have above average wings. Usually, 'wings are wings', but these wings are fantastic. I dare you to try them. Additional amenities include... TVs Board Games Dartboard Dog-friendly
Really great atmosphere with a beer for any mood. The food is also really tasty- try the burgers if you go! The bartenders always had a good recommendation for beer depending on what I said I was in the mood for. Definitely a great spot for beer lovers- for me it was an acquired taste. The ambiance provides a great place for good conversations and good drinks
Hosted a birthday party here. Everything about the experience was top notch. The staff were all unbelievably welcoming and really made it a special day. Awesome DJ that played a mix of house and hip hop. Can’t believe I hadn’t found this place sooner, I’ll be returning for sure. Highly recommend hosting events here
Great place with an awesome, straight forward bar atmosphere, huge selection of beers and booze (nice whiskey choices), very good food, and excellent service. The bartender (big guy with a shaved head) does a great job even when it's pretty busy. I try to make it here whenever I'm in the area.
Friendliest place in town. Great beer selection and TV set up
You think you know what it is, and you pretty much do, but it ends up surprising you in very special ways. It’s like judging a book by its cover and it’s both a great story and great cover. Love this place. Love the staff and the management. They are all lovely!
Went back for a second night in a row to see the Yankees. Wanted to keep the win streak going. Had the grilled chicken quesadilla. Really good with a little kick. Ate it too fast, didn't take a pic. ____________ Came back after nearly 4 years. Used to come by more often. Place still had the same good vibes. Stopped to catch the Yankee game. Got a couple of drinks and fish tacos. Service was still attentive as it was 4 years ago. Chatted with some regulars at the bar. They were bunch of regulars her which I like seeing I remember they had a solid burger. Will get that next time.
This was our first time in NYC. We spent 4 nights exploring all over Manhattan. This was by far the most inviting and fun bar that we went to. This place has tons of beer on tap, but the real gem is all the Bourbon/Whisky they have on hand. The bar tender was amazing and made my wife and I feel like old time friends. We ended up going here twice, this place made our 10yr anniversary trip unforgettable start to finish!
I have always had a great time at this bar. The bartenders are nice and attentive. The bar itself has a great selection of beers, especially cider, and the cocktails are pretty good as well. The only con is it can get a little loud during games, but that is expected.
So glad i randomly stumbled upon this place while searching for somewhere to get some buffalo wings. I was not expecting a bar to have such delicious food! Drinks were great also, i saw they had a variety of craft beers. Bartender is friendly and chill. They were doing a trivia night as we walked in, the vibes were lively. Great place to grab drinks and food with friends!
Semi-divey bar with 30 rotating taps. Some beers are available as a flight but most of them are served in single size, from 8 to16oz depending on the beer. A limited selection of cans and vintage bottles is also available. Pretty extensive food menu including all the typical bar food. Plenty of boardgames if you want to stay a while. And there's something going on every day of the week such as trivia, food and drink specials, and brunch during the weekends.
We popped in for a few beers on the way to eat lunch at Katz Deli. Loved the vibe, bartender was friendly, and eager to please. Helpful to recommend beers or cocktails and strike up conversation if you please. The windows open up for nice days if you choose to sit and watch the pace of NYC walk by. We did not eat but the people next to us got curry fries and they smelled delicious. I recommend popping in here for a good time! This spot is excellent for enjoying a craft brew. Their diverse tap list showcases a nice variety from numerous breweries. A range of other alcoholic beverages is also available. I paired my beer with the bacon quesadilla, which was a delicious choice. Both the service and atmosphere were enjoyable. I highly suggest giving this place a try!
I came here with my parents for a late dinner at a fun bar, and we got more than we asked for. The atmosphere is great, they have board games and skee-ball and great music that's not too loud to have a conversation. The buffalo chicken tacos (pictured) were amazing, as was my dad's chicken sandwich, and my mom's chili. Great selection of beer at a good price and great service! (xpost Yelp)
It’s nice to find a bar that keeps things simple and gets it right. No gimmicks—just solid food and an impressive selection of beers. I wasn’t familiar with most of the brews on the list, but thanks to the bartender’s guidance, my friend and I ended up picking a few excellent ones. Definitely give the Irish nachos a shot—the fresh jalapeños really elevate the dish.
It’s refreshing to see a bar do what it’s supposed to do. No frills, some food and some really great choices for beer. I didn’t know many of the beers on the menu, but with the help of the bartender. My friend and I made a few great choices. Try the Irish nachos too. The fresh jalapeños made the difference. Reasonable prices. Definitely make a return here.
Great place to get a pint of craft beer. They have a good selection of them from different breweries. And of course they also have other liquor options as well. In food I had the quesadilla with bacon and it was a perfect accompaniment with my pint of beer. Overall the service is good as is the ambiance. Most definitely recommend it!
Good vibes, good beers, good food, what more do you really need? Had a great time stopping by with Kills Boro for the collaboration event for their "I Got Answers," beer with Other Half Domino, but they have a good 20-30 different beers available here and if you're into craft beer you can't go wrong. The french fries are also slammmmmin.
In a neighborhood full of pricey cocktails and serious dives, this is your go-to old school spot, with affordable drinks, comfortable atmosphere, and hot bar food. Irish curry fries with cheddar? Good. Buffalo wings? Good. Irish nachos with pork? Yums. Really wanted to try the Mexican salad but alas. Guinness, Mexican lager, and Victory Pilsner fresh on tap. Friendly service and easy-going ambiance.
So I must say, I came during the beginning of happy hour after searching everywhere for a good vibe. Everywhere was empty. I came here... No difference. Could be because of the pandemic. Anyways, I settled and I regret nothing. The selection of beer, the food choices, and the staff was good. Eventually the place became lively. Maybe I came early. But regardless, I'm glad I stopped in. The tacos were a bit over price but the we're REALLY good. Below are the fish tacos. I recommend this place for any beer enthusiast but after 7. 5 stars easily.
Pro: Nice dive bar. Chicken wings were really good. It was a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed ourselves overall. Con: we were asked to get up from our table because it was needed for another party. We were never told when we sat down that there was a time limit..
I come here for two reasons: the beer, and the duck confit poutine. Don't sleep on either. The beers on tap are always exciting and they have something for everyone (namely me, who hates anything remotely hoppy), the hard ciders are great, and the service is surprisingly on point for such an occasionally crazy establishment (try coming here at 10:30PM on a Saturday and you'll get the disco ball, earth trembling music, and way too many people for your liking). I will brave all of the above for their poutine. The duck confit is sometimes a tad dry, but their herbaceous, luscious gravy and huge chunks of fresh squeaky cheese curd more than make up for it. It's not a particularly clean space, but the quality of food and beverages always hits the mark.
Awesome selection of beers at a good price, especially if you're a (NE) IPA person. If you're there past happy hour it's not uncommon for them to be out of a few things but it's a good excuse to try something new. Staff is mostly friendly by NYC standards but have had a few abrasive interactions though that's definitely not the norm. I work in the area and this has become my go-to spot for evening drinks and I don't see that changing anytime soon. For an above average but nothing fancy experience this place fits the bill.
I liked the low key vibe of this spot. It's one of the nicer bars I've been to in this LES without the typical LES crowd. Bartenders were cool and the drinks were good. You can either start the night here or end here, either way, it's worth going to. It has a loungey feel without the crowd. I'd come back again.
Great dive bar with delicious food, especially the nachos and the mack and cheese. Service was a bit slow though
A nice and narrow dive spot that has a ton of brews on tap and decent cocktails. I went recently as the weather was getting nice and it was good for a happy hour meet up. It can get quite busy though during peak times. Would definitely go back if in the area.
Great beer selection and good neighborhood casual vibe. Two thumbs up for the duck poutine. Exceeded expectations! Docked a star because the service is pretty bad. Bartender didn’t really know the beer, wasn’t helpful, and it felt like we were bothering him even asking questions. It will stay on my go to places but wish the staff was better.
Layout/atmosphere *Long bar; eight TVs; high tables; large craft beer & whiskey selection; couple tables on sidewalk in front Service *Friendly bartender (Monica) Food/drink *Irish Nachos (Waffle fries, pickled jalapeños, crème fraiche, pico de gallo, fresh guacamole & melted Irish cheddar + pork) - delicious; nice portion size *Edmund’s Oast Sun Kissed (tap) - good; hints of orange; refreshing *Complimentary water jug *Potato chips behind bar for sale
Came here for a college reunion event and had a good time! The bar went so far as to draw our mascot on a chalkboard and I thought that was so cool. We were seated toward the back and had catered food (wraps and pretzels) and used our drink tickets to get some drinks at the front. Whether you were part of the event or not, most folks in there were just drinking and chatting away. A nice vibe and atmosphere, I'd definitely come back in for a drink and a nice chat with a friend. Staff was so good at keeping up with finished food and drinks! Great staff here. On Site: 1 accessible Bathroom 2 small bathrooms Board Games Only gave 4 stars cause I want to come back and experience a regular day, not a college event!
Cool bar space and good draft beer selection. Service was slow, but the crowd was probably more to blame than the bartenders. The Irish nachos were pretty good. The whiskey is overpriced for the most part, as are some of the bottled beers (80 bucks for a bottle, really?). Also, when it gets crowded, it's almost impossible to get to the self serve water jug in a corner near the front. A final note: the bathrooms are slightly bigger than airplane bathrooms.
Pretty good food, although my wings came out a bit on the dry side, and came with a warning on the menu, despite being just mildly hot at best. The beer selection is pretty great, with something for just about everyone, though service left something to be desired in the filling up water department.
Fools Gold is a cool place to grab drinks with friends but last night, I gotta say, I was super disappointed by my experience. One bartender in particular was just plain rude. Maybe she was having a bad day, but here’s what happened. I ordered 3 drinks - one whiskey sour and two mango margaritas. The whiskey sour looked like a shot of whiskey and lemonade but it wasn’t special at all (fine), but the mango margaritas she made were so strong and unsweet, they were undrinkable. When I asked her politely if she could remake them and do Moscow Mules instead, she proceeded to make Whiskey Gingers, and these came out bad too. At some point I was beginning to lose my patience, and told her that these were not what I ordered (mind you I told her very clearly that I was not mad at her but that I was trying to get the drinks right for my girlfriend and her friend). She began showing poor body language towards me, and was being rude, passive aggressive and glib. I don’t know - I get if you’re upset if a customer keeps showing up to perfect the order. But if the common denominator is your inability to make good drinks and follow instructions, you gotta be accountable.
staff was fine. ordered food and it was possibly the worst food i’ve ever had in my life. fries were good. mac n cheese came out ice cold with cheese not melted on the top. pretzel was harder than a rock and to use a steak knife to cut into it. i wouldn’t go back to this place ever again. also— it smells like a wet mop in there. tread with caution.
Had a pretty poor experience here, bartenders were very cold and rude/racist. I walked in 8pm on a weekday and it was pretty empty at the bar, the bartender ignored me and my gf for 10 min and then immediately served white patrons that came in after me. The brunette girl and brunette guy bartenders were both very cold and ignored us despite us trying to flag them down all while catering quickly to other white patrons. Wont be coming back again, and if you’re a minority I don’t recommend coming here. Don’t waste your money.
The employees are rude, racist, abusive, and pushy. They pushed, removed our drinks while we still drank, and only allowed white people to enter without IDS while people of color were harassed to show id. They were extremely rude, I emphasize this point, as their security guard and staff are extremely unprofessional and makes one wonder if they should be allowed to work with the public. They were screaming at us since the moment we entered. We will never ever ever go back nor tell people to go. What a horrible and traumatic experience. We spent a big bill, and still we were harassed. Why have a business if your employees are this bad? The bartenders were extremely good, but that was it. So sad, the food was so good, but what is the point of eating good food and people pushing you off a chair? If you don’t have a reservation, rethink it. Do better
Drunk bartender last night decided to get nuts and start yelling at my date and I. This place is nice but the staff needs retraining. Avoid till something new replaces it.
