Levant Albee Square Reviews
Food is super delicious. The brunch menu is excellent. The steak sandwich is super delicious as well as the salad, shrimp, and chicken croquettes. The staff were super friendly and very attentive. This is an excellent place and I highly recommend. Food is super flavorful and you will definitely enjoy it😊
We just threw a birthday party here and everyone had a wonderful time. The space is beautiful and the food & drinks were a big hit with our guests! The staff were friendly and extremely helpful making sure everyone was taken care of. We are already planning to come back for dinner soon
Went for brunch today and had what I think is the best brunch in all of Brooklyn. The food was incredible. The pancakes were the best I may have ever eaten. They were so sweet to my two daughters and the french omelet was to die for. Absolutely go here as soon as you can. You will not be disappointed. I only have photo of my cappuccino as I ate my food too fast. So so good.
We were a party of 7 and our server managed us beautifully. He was attentive, friendly and made sure we were taken care of. The food, as always - great. Appreciate the creativity and the options/variety. Thank you for a great evening…
I've eaten at Levant on Smith a few times and was always impressed with the food so that's why it was top of mind for our rehearsal dinner for around 45 people. We had the entire space to ourselves and our guests were beyond impressed with the food, drinks, and service. They mentioned that the portions were great and that the food was delicious. The staff was so accommodating the entire time and Marco the owner was great to work with since the very beginning of planning. If you're thinking about planning your event here, do it!
Fantastic place. They were so nice and thorough. And really great ambience. Had 15 people over there for dinner and it was a very good choice.
The ambiance of the restaurant was elegant. The food was top quality! Outstanding service from the server! I recommend everyone come here!
Every part of our meal was amazing!! The service was outstanding, must shout out our sever, Felix, he made the whole experience wonderful! We ordered the escargot, grilled octopus, and the goat cheese pastries all were phenomenal. For our entrées, we did the beef Bergeron and the Pappadelle with the meat Ragout - out of this world. Along with our appetizers and main, we ordered a carafe off sangria, which was absolutely delicious . For dessert we had which I don’t know the name, but I can only describe as a deconstructed eclair with this amazing chocolate sauce with the espresso martini which was to die for. Needless to say we will be coming back. Five stars all the way.
We chose Levant on Smith to host a large family brunch as part of a weekend of wedding celebrations and it proved to be an excellent venue. Food was exceptional, the service was great, and the venue was helpful and accommodating throughout. I can highly recommend it as an excellent place for an event - and I’d certainly return for the brunch itself. We were so pleased with everything.
I'm a life-long resident of Boerum Hill. I remember Smith St in the 80s when there were no restaurants. I’ve seen lots of change and many restaurants come and go. Levant is special. The food is straightforward. The ingredients are high-quality, and it's clear that a great deal of attention is put into their treatment. Take the Brussels sprouts, for example. They come out sizzling in a cast iron pan. Slightly charred and so fresh. They are unbelievable. I always get the hanger steak, and it's always cooked and seasoned perfectly. Most recently, my son got the duck confit, which was excellent. Crispy skin. The wait staff is superb and is clearly trained in a very specific way. I think the staff is a big part of what makes the place so good. A great deal of care has been put into developing this restaurant.
The food was excellent! I really enjoyed the iced latte with the zucchini pancakes!! I liked the ambience and the attentive staff. I liked that they offered small plates, which was perfect for me to try a couple different foods. I made a reservation, but I saw many walk-ins who were seated right away. They also offered outdoor seating which looked lovely but too hot to enjoy but inside they had AC and comfortable seating.
My partner and I came for brunch today and it was unforgettable. They squeezed us in when they were full with reservations, the pancakes were the best I’ve ever had and it’s super affordable. I wish I had more stars to give this spot
Delicious food, friendly staff, cozy atmosphere. Weve been here for dinner and brunch; both times were amazing. For brunch, they've a $55 special for two which comes with two dishes and a pitcher of mimosa or Bellini ($10 extra for full entrees but the other dishes were big enough such as my burger)
4 of us came for Saturday brunch. There was no wait and the service is great. The Quiche Lorraine and fries are absolutely delicious 💯 the crust is buttery and flaky and the fries are seasoned and cooked perfectly. I’m already planning another visit to order this again. My friends who ordered an omelette and the croque madame both said they were overwhelmingly cheesy
This is a beautiful place for a date night! The service was impeccable and the food amazing. I recommend the duck confit for an authentic French food and the filet mignon, so delicious. Also the octopus and salmon canapé for appetizers were a great decision. The menu is very variable, from meet, sea food, chicken, vegetarian and many options for appetizers, you will want to try everything. Also, the cocktails, I recommend the refreshing hibiscus tequila on the menu. And don’t forget to try the chocolate soufflé for dessert, so good!
Warm, elegant, and beautifully curated. From the delicate presentation of the desserts to the calm, intimate table setting, every detail feels intentional. The flavors are rich yet balanced, and the atmosphere invites you to slow down and truly enjoy the moment. Levant on Smith is not just a meal, it’s an experience
I absolutely love this place. It's a great spot for a date or special occasion (aside from any occasion). For cocktails, we got THE JUGGLER (Gin, House-Made Sour Mix Fresh Cucumber Juice, Bergamot), the HIBISCUS LEVITATOR (Tequila Blanco, Orange Liqueur, House-made Hibiscus Syrup, Fresh Lime Juice), and my personal favorite, the LEVANT FRENCH MARTINI (Absolut Vanilla Vodka, Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur, Pineapple Juice, Confetti Sprinkles—it's just so beautiful and fun!). For appetizers, we had the CRISPY GOAT CHEESE (Pastry sheets filled with goat cheese and herbs. 4pcs), CHICKEN CROQUETTES (Crispy chicken croquettes, 3pcs) with a creamy filling, Served with homemade aioli—just fantastic), the BRUSSELS SPROUTS (Sautéed Brussels sprouts with sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, and herbs), CAULIFLOWER GRATIN (Bechamel sauce, parmesan cheese—I want to eat this every day), WAGYU STEAK TARTARE (Hand-chopped filet mignon combined with shallots, chives, parsley, capers, French mustard, Tabasco, and Worcestershire sauce topped with a quail egg—also want this every day), and the FROG LEGS (Golden brown fried frog legs( 2 pcs) served with blue cheese dressing.) For entrees, we split the CHICKEN CORDON BLEU (Chicken breast stuffed with ham and Swiss cheese, breaded and golden-fried, topped with a creamy Dijon lemon sauce. Served with asparagus—pretty good, although not the star), and the actual star, LE BOEUF GOURMAND, which sadly appears to now be off the menu. For dessert, we shared the very excellent CRÈME BRÛLÉE (Creamy custard flavored with espresso, topped with caramelized sugar) and their unique SAN SEBASTIAN CAKE (traditional Spanish Basque cheesecake – perfectly light, creamy and smooth, baked to caramelized perfection). It's been a while since I was last there, but need to return soon!
Incredible dinner, as always! Levant checks all the boxes, cozy vibe, lovely service (shout out to T! He’s fantastic and we’ll come back to seat with him again!), and the food is the most incredible food I’ve had in my neighborhood, and I’ve lived here for 11 years. I l’ve ordered something new every time and it never fails to impress. Highly recommend the croquettes, escargots, and the cauliflower gratine. The entrees were incredibly delicious and thoughtful. I had the filet mignon and it just melts in your mouth, perfection. For dessert the chocolate soufflé was a knockout highly recommend. They were so kind and brought us an extra dessert on the house and we devoured them all. Can’t wait to go back, and the same for my friends who came in from Manhattan! Thanks, Levant!
The team at Levant and Marco were fabulous collaborators for our corporate event! They were able to host 35 of us in an intimate experience. They gave us plenty of time and room to set-up for the event including providing us space for a registration table and parting gift table. I would highly recommend them!
From the waiters to the food- all around very positive experience. The type of restaurant that you want to come back again and again, despite of having an abundance of many different local restaurants.
We came here for the second time and once again, everything was perfect. This time we tried the Shrimp Flambé, Beef Bourguignon, and Chicken Cordon Bleu, and for dessert the San Sebastian cheesecake. Each dish was absolutely delicious, and the service was just as warm and attentive as always. They never fail to impress us highly recommended!
I had the frisée salad and the duck confit. It was sumptuous! The staff were so nice. The music was just the right volume for enjoying the wonderful meal and just sensual enough to make the food taste better. We were celebrating my sons college acceptances. Just a beautiful experience.
Excellent dining experience! We loved the appetizers, and the steak frites were spot-on, Great selection of drinks, Friendly service and cozy atmosphere—highly recommend!
A night to remember celebrated my birthday here and honestly it did not disappoint from the service to the food & drinks. First time here and definitely not the last time. Thanks Levant!
Amazing experience at Levant! Our server, Tuna and our bartender, Felix were great! The food and drinks exceeded our expectations. The goat cheese fritters, steak frites and cheesecake were exceptional. To be passion martini was delicious. Definitely will be back!
Great dining experience. The ambiance was great and the staff was extremely welcoming. I sat at the bar and ordered the Octopus Feira and French fries. The Sunset Hour special is amazing and it was more than enough food. Will definitely be going back and recommend bringing a date or if you want a quick bite!
Great service Great food I will definitely be back soon! My wife & I got black garlic gnocchi and beef bourguinon and they did not disappoint drinks were also great 10/10
Came here with my 2 sisters and we truly enjoyed our experience. 1. Every dish we ordered was fantastic 2. Excellent service 3. Perfect ambiance We all look forward to returning soon. What we got: 1. Chicken croquette 2. Gazpacho 3. Zucchini pancakes 4. Asparagus soup 5. Black garlic gnocchi 6. Ratatouille 7. Sea bass 8. Soufflé 9. Chestnut and fig moose 10. Saint Emillion Bordeaux wine
We went there for our anniversary and everything was perfect. The staff were so kind, the food, and ambiance were exquisite. I'd recommend this restaurant for a special occasion — absolutely fantastic drinks, especially for the price point, gorgeous and delicious food, and quick service. I didn't get any nice photos of the tartare or the escargot, but I really enjoyed them as well. We ordered the beef bourguignon, and duck confit for our entrées, and they were so perfectly tender that you could probably eat it with a spoon. I really enjoyed the mushrooms with the duck confit, in particular. They were perfect savory dishes and I would recommend either dish (preferring the confit). For dessert, we had the creme brulee — I should note that I hate sweets, and never eat dessert, nor have I ever tried a creme brulee that I've eaten more than a single spoonful of, but nevertheless, this dessert was incredible. The texture was so light, but flavorful; sweet, but not overpowering; and it was velvety and creamy. It tasted amazing with the coffee. Again, the service was amazing and I hope to return soon. Thank you all to the team at Levant for making this anniversary dinner both special and delicious!
Great restaurant with a large and varied menu, brick walls on one side and wine bottles on the other, and our server was knowledgeable about the menu. And the food was phenomenal, highly recommend! I had the vegan asparagus soup, the moules, and the chestnut fig mousse. For the sober curious, they have mocktails and non-alcoholic wine and beer.
i ordered their wild mushroom canapés (chopped Portobello, cremini, and shiitake mushrooms sautéed with shallots in white wine and garlic. served chilled on 4 pcs of toasted whole wheat bread), chicken croquettes, french fries, french onion spaghetti, and beef bourguignon (beef slow-cooked in a rich red wine sauce with pearl onions, carrots, mushrooms, and crispy bacon. served on homemade mashed potato). everything was delicious. the mushroom canapés had a very fresh mushroom taste that paired well with the biscuit it was served on. the chicken croquettes and fries came out hot and extremely tasty. the croquettes have a beautifully creamy center that was piping hot and worked well with the fried crispy outer shell. the beef bourguignon was very tasty— the red wine sauce had so many layers to the flavor (beefy, hearty, rustic, with a strong red wine) that made the dish taste rich. some pieces of beef were slightly overcooked and dry but most were juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked. the french onion spaghetti was the star of the meal. it was such an unexpectedly delicious dish— the cheese was of great quality and the sauce was one of the best french onion sauces i’ve tasted. they even supplied bread to eat the sauce with after i finished the spaghetti. the spaghetti itself was a perfect al dente and had a homemade pasta mouthfeel. i finished the meal with a crème brulee which was perfection. highly recommend this spot for a deliciously modern french american fusion!
We had an amazing meal! Ordered the frog legs & wagyu beef tartare to start which were fresh & delicious. Then had the sole meunière which was perfectly cooked, deboned table side and had a delicious fish stock sauce. Also tried the filet mignon which was succulent and cooked perfectly!! I love when a place gets the temperature right that I asked for. We also had the chocolate soufflé and chestnut cakes for dessert which were unreal. Perfect outstanding meal & amazing service from our waiter Tuna!
My new favorite dish at Levant is the pappardelle beef ragout. Savory, filling and delicious. A perfect meal on a cold autumn night My waiter was excellent — welcoming, friendly, and attentive. . I always enjoy Levant.
Levant is one of my favorite downtown Brooklyn restaurants. The atmosphere is relaxing and inviting. The employees are always friendly. They have a fantastic French chef. So far, everything I've ordered has been fantastic. The octopus was tender and savory, and the mussels sauce with vodka was amazing, especially when dipped in with toasted bread.:) The arugula salad has a wonderful flavor. The French fries had seasonings on them and did not appear to be frozen fries, as most other restaurants serve. We were also served a complimentary tuna tartar made by the chef, which was delicious. And we did our finale with creme brûlée and almond cake with ice cream. I have not had it this time however, I strongly recommend you to try molten chocolate soufflé with creme anglaise. That is my #1 from the dessert menu. I'm at a loss for words. Try Levant and let the cuisine speak for itself.
This place is absolutely amazing! Their sunset happy hour deal which includes a variety of cocktails, pitchers, and wines is extremely affordable accompanied by 8-10$ small plates. Do not pass up on the octopus, fries, or french onion soup. The staff are super friendly and accommodated our group of 12 on a day’s notice.
Oh my! What an absolute treat it was to dine here . Beautiful atmosphere, delicious food and really lovely service. We had appetizers, which were amazing in their quality of ingredients, and really good wine. Had an airy, wonderful cheesecake for dessert. Would love to be back again! Merçi beaucoup🙏
This was the 2nd time for brunch I've been here and I have to say for both times. it has been a great! There is plenty of seating and the servers were attentive to us. The food was delicious, flavorful and there is great selection to choose from. I have to note the service for getting the check and paying was slow; I did not mind but others in a rush might. This is now one of my favorite brunch spots in Brooklyn.
Exceptional food and service in a cozy, inviting atmosphere. Levant met and exceeded our expectations. From the expertly crafted cocktails and delectable dishes, to the friendly staff and welcoming host, Levant is everything you could want and then some. From the moment you arrive it is evident that their main goal is to assure their guests are completely satisfied with their entire dining experience. If you are looking for a casual, yet classy French restaurant that hits all the marks, I would highly recommend. New favorite restaurant, for sure!
“This has always been my go-to spot on Smith Street, and for good reason! The service is exceptional, the food is outstanding, and the vibe is just perfect. You have to try the gnocchi, sea bass, and steak frites—each dish is better than the last. And don’t miss the crispy goat cheese—it’s absolutely mouthwatering! The wine selection is impressive, and the cocktails are consistently top-notch, expertly crafted by skilled bartenders. This place never disappoints!”
We had a company-sponsored dinner at Levant, and everything was spectacular. We brought in approximately employees from throughout the US and abroad and are delighted we chose Levant for our special dinner evening. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left - The service was very professional and accommodating, the food was amazingly delicious, and we were consistently and continuously attended to, so all needs were met throughout the evening. They Owner and the staff went above and beyond! I highly recommend!
I've been here several times. The food is great. It's very welcoming. It's better to have a reservation if you're coming at a busy time but otherwise you don't need one. I've always had a good meal here and a pleasant time.
The chocolate souffle is DELICIOUS. Crispy, chewy edges around the top, gooey rich chocolate center that isn’t too sweet. I feel like it’s so hard to find a good choco souffle. Hope to come back soon. The other good dish was Sesame Tuna Tartare. Also got the Crispy Goat Cheese which was exactly that but felt like it was missing a sauce, maybe a sweet/sour type dip. Looking forward to returning to try their dinner menu (and get another souffle). There is outdoor seating, dog-friendly.
We had a lovely visit to Levant for Sunday brunch. Such a sweet little spot with a good variety of food options. They honestly had more food options than I anticipated, but they had a nice array of french style breakfast items, traditional American breakfast items, as well as drink. The ambience and the vibe inside of the restaurant with top notch, the staff was super attentive and very friendly. My friend and I ordered the crepes parisienne and my wife had the salad niçoise. I think I would've gone with the croissant breakfast sandwich just cause I prefer a little bit more oof in my meal but the flavors of the crêpe were delicious and it was very filling. My wife's salad had all the fixings you'd expect from a traditional salad except it may have been missing or perhaps was just very light on the salad dressing.
This French restaurant had a nice atmosphere and the waiter was very kind. I ordered the frisée salad which was really delicious with the vinaigrette dressing, and the ratatouille, which was well cooked but needed a lot of salt for flavor, but salt was provided and I didn’t have to ask for it. I had some food prior to arriving for my reservation and wish I hadn’t so that I could’ve tried the French onion soup as well. I would recommend as a quiet restaurant for a date.
This resturant is amazing, I went yesterday on my birthday and it was perfect. Our server, FELIX was absolutely incredible. He was prompt, thoughtful and had the best attitude. He made the experience 100x more pleasurable. The food? Incredible!!! Everything was cooked to perfection. Absolutely insane. Thanks Felix!!
My server, Trgt, deboned my fish and was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the wild-caught Sole Meunière, which came with salad and sides—very light and delicious. Jazz music played in the background at just the right volume. Paloma cocktails were excellent. The place is cozy with the perfect intimate setting
The food, service, and atmosphere was everything we wanted. Our birthday party of seven was delighted with the entire experience. The French onion spaghetti is a revelation! The cod fish and steak was cooked to perfection. The Beef Burgundy melts in your mouth. The hamburger and fries was as delicious as it’s presentation. And the Cordon bleu was crispy on the outside and melt in your mouth on the inside. The dirty martini was smooth. The lychee and passion martinis dance on your palate. And the dessert is made fresh, on site and sweet to perfection. It was akin to a Michelin experience, yet easy on the wallet. Highly recommend!
Levant on Smith is a must-visit. Beautiful atmosphere, impeccable service, and outstanding food from start to finish. The goat cheese and octopus appetizers were perfectly balanced and full of flavor. The duck was cooked to absolute perfection — rich, tender, and unforgettable. And the crème brûlée was the perfect ending with its silky texture and perfectly caramelized top. Everything was extremely well executed. A refined French dining experience I can’t wait to return to.
I had a wonderful dinner at Levant! Every dish was perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The cocktails were fantastic as well. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, and the service was fast and attentive. You can really feel the warmth and hospitality here — I’ll definitely be coming back!
I CANT WAIT TO COME BACK HERE! The most amazing restaurant in Brooklyn! I haven’t eaten this well and this yummy in a while! The frog legs were delectable. I ordered the scallops and they came with caviar and a silky cauliflower mash. The service was amazing. We had such a warm waiter and it was a pleasure conversing with him! I couldn’t recommend the more!
I visited tonight and I had an amazing experience. There were three of us that visited for restaurant week and we all enjoyed our food and drinks. The server Tuna and bartender Felix were attentive and polite! Their prefixed menu was $60 and for an addiontal $17 you can add 2 drinks off the regular drink menu to your meal. It's such a good bargin. In total we ordered the goat cheese frites (loved), chicken croquettes, and the salad(loved it, it's like a summer salad)for apps. I didnt care for the chicken croquettes (the filling was extremely soft, there wasn't enough balance of textures for me). For entrees, we got the seabass, mashed potatoes and spinach, steak and fries and the coqau von. All the dishes were a good amount of food and tasty (10/10 on all). For deserts, we ordered the the crimbula (7/10 only because I don't like soft soft textures) and cheesecake (9/10). For drinks we did the Passsion Martini (10/10) and the Merlo (10/10). The atmosphere and msuic was really nice and calming. The bill came up to $250ish. I will definitely be returning soon.
My brother and SIL and I had the BEST restaurant week dinner at Levant on Smith last night. We started with chicken croquettes, tuna tartere, and crispy goat cheese. All were delicious but we especially loved the goat cheese and croquettes! We ordered drinks as well (Acrobat, Contortionist, Aperol Spritz, and some red wines with the meal) and all were delicious! For our main courses we had steak frites and coq au vin, and tried both desserts - all were out of this world, and personally that was the best steak frites I’ve ever had and I fell in love with the basque cheesecake. The restaurant also gave us some amuse-bouches and a special dessert drink which we loved!! We would absolutely come here again, but definitely drop in for restaurant week!!
My wife and I had a lovely little date night at this cute little French restaurant! The food was delicious, and the staff were so nice. We ordered the goat cheese appetizer, French onion spaghetti (which was downright amazing!), and the steak & frites. The steak was perfectly cooked medium-rare, soft and juicy. We got the creme brulee for dessert, which was very well done. The portion sizes were perfectly filling too! The goat cheese was just ok for us, which the waitress asked us about - we didn't complain at all, just mentioned that we didn't want to pack it home since we're staying at a hotel and don't have an oven or air-fryer to properly heat it up, but because she knew that we didn't like it as much, her and the owner offered us their Spanish cheesecake as consolidation to take home for free. They really did not have to, but that is some solid A+ customer service and we appreciate them so much for being so nice. Definitely recommend this place! Thank you so much again!
We absolutely loved our meal at Levant on Smith! The zucchini pancakes were exceptional. Perfectly crisp on the outside and full of flavor. The French onion spaghetti was such a creative twist on a classic dish and incredibly delicious. Their cocktails were also a huge hit. The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and made for a really enjoyable dining experience. Can’t wait to come back!
I had my surprise proposal/engagement dinner there on Sunday June 1st 2025 and it was the best decision I could have ever make. The arrangements the decor, , the ambiance, the entire ensemble was impeccable. The food was amazing! Many options for meat and non meat eaters. The staff was very friendly and informative. Tuna and Marco are the people to speak to if you would like to host an event here, really cool guys. Also it was not expensive at all! The price was very fair as well. I love this place with all my heart! They will always have a special place in my mind and heart! Sensational!
We dove into a perfectly crisp camembert roti—flaky pastry yielding to a molten, buttery center—and the roasted Brussels sprouts arrived caramelized with a hint of smokiness, alongside duck confit so tender it practically fell off the bone. The beef bourguignon was a masterclass in slow-cooking: succulent beef chunks bathed in a rich red-wine sauce, expertly seasoned with thyme, garlic, and a whisper of bay leaf. Our espresso martinis closed the meal on a high note, silky and bold, with just enough sweetness to balance the roast. Every bite felt thoughtfully crafted and beautifully balanced. My friend and I will absolutely be back!
We visited Levant the other day for our anniversary. We started with drinks. I had an espresso martini which was wow…it’s definitely a must . My husband had one of their mocktails. He loved it as well. We ordered onion soup and levant salad . Both were super yummy. Then we had burgers. And for dessert - warm chocolate soufflé. Omg was it unbelievable. Overall we really enjoyed our experience. Although it was packed and they had some music playing, it wasn’t loud at all so we were able to talk without screaming 😉. For me , it’s really important. We will definitely come back.
It’s not very often that I go out of my way to go from New Jersey to Brooklyn for dinner, but when I saw this restaurant, I knew that I had to check it out. The ambience is so calm yet so beautiful. The decor is Paris stamped as the restaurant is a French eatery. All the staff were so kind to us. They were also so attentive, and the service was fairly fast. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and I’ve absolutely no notes. Needless to say, I will definitely be coming back here!
Had a delicious dinner here! The service was great and I loved the presentation of the dishes. We were seated outside and I’ve also been inside the restaurant before for lunch. The inside is really charming but I enjoyed the outdoor seating as well. The food is upscale and had great flavors. The scallops and filet mignon were perfectly cooked. The chocolate lava cake was one of the best I’ve ever had. Happy to be in the neighborhood and will definitely visit again.
This place is so cute and you can tell is a neighborhood gem. I went for a late Saturday brunch as a table of 9. Our group was loud and energetic and the wait staff was just so incredibly accommodating. We were busy talking so I didn’t take enough pictures but the food was absolutely incredible. They do everything to perfection. The French onion soup was out of this world. The espresso martini was smooth and not too sweet. The portions were perfect. They even treated our group to a round of shots as a thank you for our business. The waitstaff for a group this large truly was so incredibly accommodating. Thank you for having us!
The food is wonderful. The staff and the service is amazing. They really care. They are wonderful people. Some of the best service and any restaurant is found here. What is not gray is the atmosphere because it is extremely loud with the way the restaurant is laid out. You can hear everybody's conversations kids kicking the chairs kids yelling if there's a loud person in the restaurant, you can hear it. Echo throughout the entire place, and if you move further towards the bar or kitchen area, you constantly hear the clashing and slamming of forks and knives. The atmosphere doesn't really let you relax it's more of like a buffet environment in which case some buffets are even quieter than this restaurant. I can't write this review in good conscience and say it's a restaurant fault a lot of it is just New York City and the people but it's what it is. Maybe put up higher bench seats or put up better acoustic panels or put wood on the walls. in order to hear your self talk or to hear the other person you also have to be yelling.
French restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere serving delicious food. My roommate loved his dish (Coq Au Vin) and I enjoyed my octopus, although I wish it was crispier with a larger side (three creamer potato's was a bit small) I appreciated the attentiveness of the wait staff but did feel a little rushed eating here, with the entrees coming out 10-15 minutes after we ordered (a bit fast for a higher priced spot) Overall it’s a cute spot serving delicious food and definitely worth a visit if you live in the area. Would recommend for a romantic night or just as a spot to catch up with some friends or family
Stopped in this evening for dinner after work with a friend. The atmosphere was lovely, with a cozy welcoming vibe. The service was excellent, with pleasant staff. The food was good. It was fresh, delicately flavored and beautifully presented. My sea bass had a couple of small bones, but I easily removed them myself. I experimented with the drink I ordered and discovered the smokiness wasn't to my taste, which is a personal preference. It was well made and looked nice. Although I may return again in the summer to try another dish, I don't think French cuisine is a favorite of mine. Give it a try and decide for yourself.
I went to Levant while I was in town for work. I met up here with some friends for brunch on Sunday. The brunch has a pretty decent deal, with a cocktail carafe and two dishes for $75. They let us order this with an extra dish. I appreciated the flexibility there. It was a bit busy -- but maybe to be expected for a Sunday brunch. We could only get bar seating. I ordered the French toast with Nutella. It was good, but the portions were a bit small for me. My friends ordered a burger and an omelette-- that seemed to be better value. I probably won't come back -- mostly because I wasn't personally interested in the other veggie options (I don't eat eggs). That said, my omnivore friends seemed to like it a lot!
I got the opportunity to check out Levant on Smith and it exceeded my expectations. We got, Eggs Benedict, Turkish Eggs, Pancake, and Fried Goat Cheese (star of the show, that isn’t pictured here) The Pancake was alright, lacked flavor and authenticity. Felt like boxed batter that was underdone. Service was excellent and the vibes weren’t too bad either. Would brunch here again!
The food was fine, but I left disappointed. The salmon entree was overcooked; buttery, but not decadent. The portion was large, but in an area of Brooklyn that's privileged to have a few popular great French establishments it takes more inspiration in the kitchen to stand out than what Levant brings to the table. They charged me a card fee without ever bringing it up. Not cool.
The food was bland. Not traditional French. Trying to reinvent the wheel unsuccessfully. When we didn't take home unfinished food, the waiter did not show confidence in his chef. Let the customer complain, to which we did not. Espresso was the best ever. The gratuity calculating suggestion changed from the subtotal to the total after we ran our card and for people not mathematically inclined that was deceptive.
The atmosphere and service were good. But the food, drink, etc just across the board was all so bland and boring. Not bad per se. But nothing that stood out. Crispy goat cheese, croquettes, beef stew, pumpkin soup, steak frites we tried a lot but nobody was impressed. It ended with a sad flavorless almond cake. I’m a meh cook but my NYT Cooking app almond cake attempt beat this. Too bad!
The menu sounded fantastic so we were so excited to dine here. Unfortunately the food and cocktails were incredibly disappointing particularly for the price point. The ingredients for every dish tasted stale. The appetizers tasted as though they were defrosted supermarket frozen food. The shrimp in particular - I’ve had better shrimp from Trader Joe’s. My duck confit was done so badly (had this dish many times in France). Service was good though. So was the atmosphere. Our bill came to just over $150 per person and I did not think the food warranted this at all which is a shame.
I ordered the Eggs Florentine, organic quinoa, and Escargots de Bourgogne. The food was just alright overall. The snails were very salty, the English muffin in the Eggs Florentine was soggy, and the eggs were not poached as expected. A bit disappointing given the presentation and menu descriptions.
I was very excited to check out Levant on Smith for valentine’s day dinner Prix Fixe, but left feeling disappointed. I’ll start by saying that all of the service was amazing, very attentive servers and the general atmosphere of the restaurant was very cute. Where things started to go south was when the food came. At first we were given an amuse-bouche which was a smoked salmon mousse and it felt and tasted like it had been prepared days before and left in the fridge. For appetizers we got the shrimp flambé and the wagyu tartare. The wagyu tartare was good but very heavy on the capers and that was very overpowering. The shrimp flambé was severely overcooked, super chewy and rubbery to the point of squeaking in my mouth while chewing. For our mains we got the steak frites and the coq au vin. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare, but what alarmed me was that when the plate was brought out it was hot to the touch (as if microwaved or heated). The coq au vin was alright but the quality of the chicken was, for lack of a better comparison, giving foodtown chicken. For dessert we got the creme brûlée and the basque cheesecake and both were flavourful, the best course!! Lastly, at one point in the dinner the server had brought salt and pepper to the table. What was off-putting was that it was in the original McCormick brand salt and pepper shakers … which when dining at a restaurant is a little off-putting. Overall, I realize that this was a special occasion and probably should go try it out when its not a prix fixe, but the food being of such poor quality does not make it very enticing and definitely not worth the price tag.
Frogs legs were good, goat cheese croquettes tasty but over powering cheese, pear tart delicious and escargot were shelled and swimming in butter, good!!The duck confit was overcooked and the scallops were overpowered by the salty caviar and no flavor of truffles in the cauliflower purée! Good drinks but one on menu was not available! Overall. Disappointing!
