Murray's Bagels Albee Square Reviews
Hectic, and fantastic. First place I came to on my trip to New York, it's fast paced, you get sweeped around and it's great. It felt like what I wanted as a New York experience. I grabbed a LEO (lox egg and onion) omelette on a bagel and a latke, both wonderful, a lot of lox, tasty. I'd recommend for travellers, I'll probably go back again for another breakfast.
One of the best NYC Bagels. I’ve had their bagels a few times over the past few years and they are always fresh and hit the spot! With so much competition for bagels in New York, you know they have to be good to stay in business. My go to is a poppy seed bagel with scallion cream cheese (not pictured) but the egg sandwiches are great too! I like that they don’t overdo the cream cheese and the egg sandwiches are always perfectly made. Definitely check them out!
This is my favorite and most loved bagel shop in NYC! Look no further for perfect bagels! I love their egg and cheese bagel and my favorite is the traditional smoked salmon! It’s so fresh and the combination of flavors are perfect! On the weekend it’s quite the wait but definitely worth it! Thanks Murray’s for making my weekend in NYC with the perfect bagels!
Friendly staff and tasty bagels! We've had a few bagels from here now and they're always fresh and generously filled. If you're struggling with choice, then you won't go wrong with The Traditional (salmon and cream cheese with onions and capers). I had this one on a whole wheat Rainbow bagel over the Pride weekend and it was perfect. Good drink selection and efficient service!
One of the most iconic bagel spots in Manhattan. These bad boys pack punches of flavor harder than an Andy Murray serve. My favorites are the classic, the bacon egg and cheese, and Adams Choice. There’s something about a chicken cutlet with Black Forest ham, Swiss, lettuce, tomato, and Russian dressing (Adams choice specialty sandwich) that gets me excited about the day. If the line is long, wait. It’s well worth it.
Definitely the best bagel I had. But! I wish they had a menu with pictures that I could take a look before the payment stand. There are so many toppings and different type of fish, meat, cheese and so much verity. Make it accessible to the customer so they'll choose from this rich menu! I gummble on the wild sockeye salmon with dry tomatoes & garlic cream cheese, and avocado. Wow!! Tip: watch the menu in their website in advance, those guys are intense, there's no time to decide what you want
i went to visit during a long layover based on a friend's recommendation and i'm SO glad i did. staff here are incredibly friendly, especially the person who recommended the traditional bagel sandwich when i was overwhelmed by the menu! it was delicious. :) will definitely come back here anytime i'm back in nyc.
Best. Bagels. In. NY. Hands down!! I wish we'd known about this place earlier just to make sure I could have had more. The bagel was perfect and the filling was delicious. Follow their insta account for bagel envy (and recipe ideas!) There's limited space for sitting, but you night just get lucky! Not to be missed!
I initially had a slow experience here, but they fixed the situation immediately. It's actually one of the best bagel shops in NYC. Thanks for helping me with my order
I walked all the way here from my hotel in times square at 6 in the morning, because I heard they have awesome bagels. AAAAAAAAAAAAANd it was worth it 100%, i took like 6 bagels cause I am fat and I enjoyed every single one XD!
Be prepared for a wait. On a Saturday morning it took 40 minutes from entrance to order pickup. But it was absolutely worth it. The bagels could use a bit more of a schmear but the breakfast bagel was lovely. The staff were understandably very busy but were a bit unkind to the older woman in front of us. That was my only disappointment with this shop. Worth going back to!
Such an underrated place, bagels are delicious, with so many options to make it a delicious sandwich, I asked them to have it with an omelette and prosciutto di Parma and it was everything I wished for, they also have pastrami with eggs, cream cheese and all sorts of schmear, cold cuts, meats, fish ... There are a few tables inside so expect having to stand or grab it to go at rush hour in the morning.
I was craving a avocado bagel on a Sunday morning and went into this place as it was highly recommended. Tried ‘The Mensch’ (No tomato) and it was one of the best bagels I have tried in New York. I had to wait 15-20 minutes as the way they make the orders is very manual and the ticket sequence might not always follow the number sequence. But the bagel is worth the wait.
Perfect Murray’s bagels, New York bagel experience. The stars aligned for me, I was staying in a relative’s apartment half a block from Murray’s bagels. I was up at 6:30, On Easter Sunday morning. I arrived at Murray’s bagels at 6:48 The store was open, no one was there except a few workers. I placed my order to go, and was out in five minutes. Inside the store there were four small tables, and there were maybe half a dozen picnic tables outside in the little side walk cabana. The bagels were fat, warm, and Tasted great. Chewy, slightly Crisp crust, very slightly misshapen, clearly handmade perfectly boiled and baked. the coffee was good, and warm. I was back in the apartment within 11 minutes of leaving. Wow.
Easily the best bagel in Manhattan🥇! Consistent bagel quality with the tastiest ingredients. Worth the costlier-than-average bagels.
Whenever I come to NYC, I have to have a bagel. Not an expert in this field, but enough bagels on my belt to have an opinion. Love the authentic feel and classic, yet very wide, variation. Not cheap, but definitely not overpriced or too expensive. I would've loved a glass of wine or bubbles w/ it ;-)
Visiting New York with a local is the best thing ever, there's no book that can replace it! We went here for breakfast and this place has so many options! I tried an unusual one with bacon and eggs, my friend cream cheese and salmon. Both pretty good, and the bread was great! The place is cozy and nice the staff is fast in the preparation, I won't talk about the prices because Manhattan is all expensive. Next time i'll come again for sure!
Local neighborhood bagel shop with good bagel combos and good coffee Not very roomy but there are a few spots to sit down. Friendly helpful staff. I enjoyed my gluten free bagel with Irish Salmon and their black coffee
When visiting NYC, you have to get bagels! I got the traditional which came with salmon, tomato, onions, cream cheese and capers. Also got an iced coffee. Kind of expensive but it's definitely delicious and quite filling. It can get busy quick. There are some seating areas inside and outside as well. They have a wide selection of different bagels, salmon and cream cheese. Delicious!!
Bagels were very tasty - “Two Scrambled Eggs on a Bagel” (Breakfast Sandwiches offer) with additional cheddar and “Maple Raisin Walnut Cream Cheese Sandwich” with some additional spicy pumpkin spread (Spread Sandwiches offer). Pumpkin flavour was super good. The queue was reasonable, the place clean and we easily found a free spot to sit and eat inside.
First time getting Murray's catering, just as good (or even better!) than our single orders. Got the break-the-fast "Traditional" platter for 10 including lox, whitefish, sable, bagels (natch), capers, onions, sliced tomato, 3 kinds of cream cheese (scallion, nova, plain). Everything was absolutely delicious, fresh, beautifully packed, delivered with care. AND enough food for 20 so excellent value! We LOVE you Murrays - please keep up the real NY appetizing traditions!
We were visiting NY and a friend recommended the place. No regret! You can pass by for a quick breakfast on your way to the high line or Chelsea Market! The amount of people coming and going tells you it has something special, of course, the bagels! They are delicious! The have a laaaarge list to choose from! Definitely I would go back! Awesome, fantastic food.
The bagel was like a scooby doo sandwich! 🥪 Mensch bagel- (advocado , omelette spicy mayo) 3.5/5 - it was a good bagel but the bagel itself was a little too tough to me. The ingredients and the mix was very good. But I took a half a star for the price being so expensive for a bagel. I think the neighborhood hero atmosphere makes it a cool spot to just stop by.
That people don’t rate this higher is a condemnation of people who have moved to New York and don’t understand what a New York bagel is rather than the shop itself. This is the classic NY bagel. One of the best. And the name, Murray, is a tribute to Murray Lender, the man most responsible for the world’s appreciation of bagels. He figured out how to mass produce bagels (ever heard of Lenders Bagels?) and his son (I believe) opened up this shop and named it after his dad. This is truly the real deal.
Longstanding go to for breakfast bagels, I recommend scrambled eggs on poppyseed with American cheese and sometimes impossible sausage. Everyone bends over backwards to make sure customers have an experience they will want to repeat. Always fun to take home a dozen bagels with a container of strawberry cream cheese and sun dried tomato cream cheese. Excellent sides include fresh squeezed orange juice, apple juice in glass jars shaped just like apples. Try the tiny brownies - so good for a later snack.
The pastrami salmon was incredible. I was genuinely surprised by how good it was. There was no line when I walked in, and I had my order in under five minutes. It was packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend, honestly, it’s the best bagel I’ve had in New York so far!
A little on the pricier side for a usual order of mine, everything with vegetable cream cheese and a large coffee came out to $11.15. Beside not being much of a value grab they get the 5 star nod because the quality is there. Super fresh bagel, nice crunch on the outside soft and chewy on the inside. Generous cream cheese spread which is delicious. Coffee about average but it’s a bagel shop so that’s expected. If you’re looking for something at least twice as good as your average deli, this is a good spot.
wide variety and lots of great options on the menu! the pricing might look a little on the higher side but the bagels and portions are quite big. there are a couple of chairs and tables but seating is limited. quite a larger area to stand though while waiting for your food for takeout. i had a very friendly server and a quick & efficient experience here, will definitely come back again.
solid new york bagel! especially if you like em chewy. nice crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. service is fast. a couple small tables if you want to eat inside.

Best bagels on the planet. For real. sandwich combos are a lot of fun -- I highly recommend the Scottish Salmon...a little bit more cost but the payoff is oral bliss!
Great food and service. I highly recommend for bagels, soups, etc delivery was efficient
A great spot for breakfast and the food was delicious. Staff were friendly and the food was so filling (you could probably share one between two people!)

I wasn't disappointed with my everything bagel with whitefish salad. It was an easy walk from there to Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village.
Absolutely delicious bagels and excellent service. My daughter and I had breakfast here each morning on our recent visit.
Coming here on a weekend morning makes for a hectic experience because the place is packed, but the bagels are definitely worth experiencing at least once. They have tons of types of bagels, cream cheeses, and other toppings for the bagels. Prices are pretty typical for NYC and the service is fast once you've had the chance to order.
Every time, I forgot to take a photo before eating and I end up remember while eating, so apologies for these photos. I loved their bagels and even though we went ( 2:15pm ) and they close 3pm their bagel was still somehow fresh. I loved 2 bagels specifically, smoked salmon with cream cheese and turkey with cheese. Definitely recommended. During this time they have curbside seating outside but are very limited.
Ordered ‘The Traditional’ speciality sandwich via online ordering for pick up on a Sunday. The bagel & it’s contents were good, the less-one-star is because to order online for pick-up is a laborious process with an account & so much information needed. Thennn when you get there to pick-up your order it’s another 20 min of waiting for your name to be called (and actually looked like it would have been MUCH quicker if we had just ordered in-person, argh). Go for the bagel but don’t expect to be delighted by the experience.
Fast and friendly service. I stopped in the morning on the weekday and luckily had not wait issues as some reviews pointed out but those were for the weekend. So take this with a grain of salt if you decide to check them out on the weekend. The bagel was a pretty good not sure what qualifies as a New York Bagel but it was definitely good. Coffee was ok Id say get a bagel or sandwich and grab coffee from another spot.
When in New York, you’ve got to have bagels, right? I’d pinned this place ages ago, so I took the chance to walk over. It’s called Murray’s Bagels, and they have a huge menu to choose from. I picked one at random, and it was still delicious. I love the chewy, soft texture of their bagels.
Murray’s Bagels is a particularly popular ‘hotspot’ for many local residents in and around this part of Chelsea on the Westside of Manhattan. Notably very well situated inside a deli styled turn-of-the-century store front and interior with a painted antique white tin ceiling. An original architectural element retained in the layout of its interior design. The comfort level was not overwhelming and though there were side tables featured for pairing two people per se, at one, there were only six available places to choose from. Most were occupied singly while there. Spaces were limited due to seating used for customers waiting on orders to go during their busiest rush times. But on a Sunday like today, the atmosphere turnover is quite ginger. A relaxed mood and sensibility aside the clamorous momentum behind the counter filling the orders as quickly as assembled. Now, to be perfectly honest, The Traditional classic smoked lox, with cream cheese on a bagel with everything on it, on an Everything Bagel— was pretty decent. What was tough to get past was the toughness of the bagel itself. Like chomping European hard-bread made in America. In all fairness having tasted many many bagels this was tougher, chewy, and really harder to bite through. Seriously my preference would be its competitor further up the street closer to W. 23rd. Though, that was its only drawback! Nothing else. The lox, absolutely fresh. Tomatoes, capers, red onions, and cream cheese, perfect! Nothing more than satisfying! But the bagel was the only downfall. I’m not opposed to the whole place for it’s popularity but, as finicky as a kid can get to be, it’s hard not to decide on finding another place that doesn’t have that hardness tacked to the taste, and especially bagels. They can be extra soft, and really fluffy and tasty too. So, otherwise, a truly beautiful place no matter what the opinion is, (it is indeed very Scandinavian) totally in the ambiance and aesthetic culinary tradition. But “Don’t mind me” … it’s just a matter of preferences like anything else here in The Big Apple!
Great food! Haven't tried drinks yet but there's a nice variety. The plain bagel and cinnamon raisin bagels a great. I've tried the ones with eggs and without. However the line is always very long. I always order pickup ahead of yet. Even so, I still have to wait up to 10 or more minutes for things to be ready. Its a very busy place, so it might not be great if you want something quick.
Love these bagels! There is great quality and the vibe is great. Love the NY style bagels they serve. One thing though, they do not have restrooms which is a huge caveat! Otherwise, asesome place for bagels!

We had been to the Murray’s in Chelsea and the bagel was top notch. So on this visit to NY we made a trip for lunch to the one on 6th Avenue. Ordered a whitefish on a sesame bagel and a roast …
Let’s say that the bagel was great. Expect for the fact that I waited 45 minutes for a single bagel. There were 6 youngsters working on a tiny space chatting and joking in a non professional manner. The cashier lady sneezed multiple times without properly covering her face and disinfecting her hands. I mean that’s okay because it was Saturday and the shop was busy but still not the best experience in terms of quality of the service.
I will start by saying the bagels were good and well filled however be prepared to wait a long time…. They take your order very fast and then you wait up to 45 minutes for your food. We were order number 94 however order number 99,98,97,100,3,5 and 95 were served before us… they do not make your food in the order you get served. All of these were drink and bagel orders just like ours. The staff were efficient and friendly enough but you could tell they were stressed and getting frustrated with how busy it was.
I had the traditional bagel with salmon lox, vegan cream cheese, onion, capers, and tomato. The salmon was tasty, the vegan cream cheese was a mistake. I couldn't taste the vegan cream cheese so it was like why am I eating these calories that don't even taste good? The bagel was too hard for me, although I had it toasted at their suggestion so maybe that was partially why. The capers and onions added some excellent flavor to the salmon.
I got a sausage, egg, and cheese on an egg everything and I was pretty disappointed. The whole thing wasn't really that flavorful and, for the price, I would have expected more. I've been to several places throughout the city that are less expensive and taste way better. I'm glad I tried it but I don't think I'll be going back for seconds.
So sad. This was my first time here. My order was #71 and once they were at #83, I asked the woman who was by the register about my order. She responded in a very nasty attitude “it takes longer because of the eggs “ Very rude. I think after almost 30min I had the right to ask for my order Need to find a more pleasant employee to deal w/The customers .
We really wanted to like Murray's Bagels. The names of the sandwiches were fun and the menu looked good. However, we didn't have a good experience. The food was so so at best. Now that could be because our sandwiches sat for at least 10 minutes waiting for the staff to heat up our knish. The knish was squashed, the eggs were cold, and the one roasted bagels tasted chewy. Overall, it took more than 20 minutes to get out food and it went that busy. While we might try again someday, there are better options nearby including Bagel Pub and Tompkins Sq Bagels.
Had seafood soup and chicken bagel sandwich. Was just average for lunch. The soup was the highlight.
I have no idea who decided that these are the best bagels in the area as they were really bad. The bun was dry and not crunchy at all. The bagel was missing more cream cheese and I assume love. The bagel with latkes was so greesy. Would not recommend at any costs, as it is also expensive. Paid for a classic one 18$
i love bagels. i came here around 1pm today (wednesday). i got a toasted everything bagel with bacon egg and cheese and a double chocolate muffin. bagel was stale and kinda hard to chew. idk how old it was or if it was but assumed their bagels were fresh. muffin felt not as fresh as it could have been either. was disappointed. nice environment tho.

Ordered a plain bagel w/ omelette, not toasted and got a toasted everything. It was also burnt. Lotta places to get a great bagel, don’t waste your time on Murray’s
Walk the extra 3 blocks and go to Bagel Pub instead of this place. I’m new to the neighborhood and have been trying to find my go to bagel spot. LOVED bagel pub but wanted to try Murray’s since it seemed like a more authentic NYC bagel shop. (Added bonus - Bagel Pub is cheaper!) I took my bagel to go and was confused that it was ice cold when I opened it up to eat it (which is odd since i ordered it toasted) then took a bite and realized it wasn’t toasted at all. I called the store and they told me they talked to the person who made my order and they swear it was toasted (shocker) - did not offer me a refund. Told me to “do what i need to do” so now I am. Take it from someone who’s lived in NYC for almost a decade. This bagel spot is not it.
overrated and expensive. Inefficient system as well. I watched my finished bagel sit on the work counter after one employee had finished it m because it was another, absent employee’s job to yell the order number. Why did I watch my sandwich for 5 minutes without anyone delivering to the pickup spot???
I’ll start out by saying that I thoroughly enjoy a good Murray’s bagel. However, the journey to get said bagel is treacherous. You order online and the estimated time for pick up is 20-30 minutes. This is a lie. You walk into the doors and the place is a complete madhouse. People are shoving elbows, pushing to the front like this is a concert mosh pit, shoving their phones against the plexiglass trying to get the orders checked… when they’ve all been waiting well over an hour. It’s an absolute public safety disaster for both the crowd issues and the lack of COVID social distancing and precautious. When you’re not being pushed around, you’re chatting with your neighbors and building camaraderie in mutual frustration. There’s a mother who ordered her food 3 days ago and is now late for her own child’s first birthday. There is a delivery man screaming at the people making bagels about how his customers have waited over two hours. The employees scream back. A man’s name is called and he cheers “LETS GO” and the whole crowd claps and chuckles before their scowls quickly return to their faces. You try and get a refund for your order and are told it’s not possible. You’re frustrated, hungry, and disappointed. The experience is simply not worth it. Murray’s- you have good bagels. Please change your pick up process. The current system is not working for your customers or employees. I will not be returning until something changes. I hope I can one day update this review to reflect the bagels alone. However, the bagels do not currently make up for the incredibly frustrating experience that is Murray’s.
The female staff member who took my order seemed annoyed when I asked for menu recommendations. She was never polite, and without my permission, she decided on a tip amount and took it without informing me. After returning to the hotel and reviewing the receipt, I am shocked by what she did.
Been coming here for 20+ years and sad to say, im done. Things have been going downhill for years. Management / ownership clearly don’t care.. Orders constantly made wrong. STAFF IS RUDE. Lox portion on bagel is Embarrassing. They should be ashamed of themselves. Save yourself the time money and agony, go somewhere else. Murray’s is over 👎🏻
$3.80 for a small black coffee at 8:10AM ~ served 'warm' not hot and could very well have been left over from last night.
DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS BUSINESS. I was hosting lunch for an office of 25 people and they canceled my $750 order right before I was supposed to pick it up. Literally at 11:26 I have notification it was canceled when pick up time was 11:30. Do not trust them. Terrible experience.
I bought drip coffee, it was cold, the guy takes it and just pumps steam into it to heat it as opposed to making a fresh batch or offering me an Americano. The older gentlemen working did this and a younger kid. They also forgot a part of my order, and when I told them, they gave me an awful attitude
