This place is one of my favorite Vietnamese joints across 2 coasts. The bread the banh mi comes on is so so good, like inexplicably good. It’s not even my favorite banh mi in the five boroughs BUT their bread is unmatched. And of course the contents are delicious as well. The pho is reliably yummy, and I’m a big fan of their vermicelli bowls. My go to is the spring rolls and grilled pork. Yum. The waitstaff are all really receptive to questions—I’ve often come with friends with allergies, and the waitstaff are knowledgeable and considerate. They also have great recommendations (shout out to the waiter who turned me on to the soda with yolk and condensed milk. I’d never had it before but it slaps). Much good food, many good memories.

Pho broth is amaazing. Servers are kind, and the food itself came quick but it takes a while to actually order the food and get the check, etc. very nice atmosphere as well!

One of my favorite restaurants in Chinatown, I've been coming here for years! The food is so fresh and always hits the spot!

Amazing Vietnamese restaurant! The atmosphere was very comfortable, clean, cozy, and had plenty of seating. We ordered the #2 Đặc Biệt with bò viên and the #54 Bún chả giò / chả giò chay. Both were very delicious and warming. They give you lots of sauces to add to your dishes and offer tea when you are first seated. Service was very friendly, I highly recommend!

Delicious and authentic food with plenty of menu options. Prices were fair and the atmosphere is great for lunch or dinner. Best Banh Mi I have ever had. 1 dish can serve 2 people.

I’ve only got phos here before, but I needed something quick this time and got a pork Banh-mi. It took 10-12 minutes and around ~$15. It was huge and delicious, enough for 2 people. There was a generous amount of pork and sauce. Best Banh-mi I’ve had.

I’ve been going here since I was little and love it. There’s an extensive menu with plenty of vegetarian options and everything I’ve had so far has been good. Best vegetarian spring rolls I’ve ever had and I also love the Vietnamese iced coffee 😍😍

Our group decided to stop here for our dinner and it was worth it. They offer a variety of traditional authentic Vietnamese dishes. We love the food and the cozy atmosphere. I personally enjoyed “Banh hoi bo la lot”. Taste really good !!! They have big portion of everything and it’s affordable (you get disc when paid by cash). Overall, we love the experience here 🤗

I didn’t eat in Nam Som Vietnamese Restaurant yet but I did do takeout a few times. It looks very festive and bright and is always busy. Staff are okay. They have a cash and credit price but it wasn’t much difference less than a dollar on $45 meal. Sorry I was too hungry and didn’t take pics of what I ordered but it was very good. Ordered a big noodle without tripe and they got that right. Also big was pretty big, I ate as much as I could and had to eat the rest a few hours later. Got spring rolls and they were delicious nice and crispy. Lettuce was looking very edible. Only problem I had was the sauce was on the bottom. So staffers make sure it is on top, it would have been a problem if I had no place to put the spring rolls trying to get the sauce out. Last thing I ordered was a pork chop on rice. That was also excellent for lunch the next day. Look forward to more take out or maybe I can stay one day. Thanks for having a great restaurant. 👍

This is probably one of the better Vietnamese restaurants in the downtown area. It might look small from the outside, but inside, it's rather spacious, and smells just like the Vietnamese restaurants back in my hometown, San Jose. The prices are a little steeper than the other restaurants in Chinatown, but the food is more than just average, or good, it's great, actually. Some of the staff speak Vietnamese, which is a relief. They remind me of your uncles kicking back sipping on Heineken's during family bbq's in the backyard. We've had the banh mi curry here, the hu tieu, and the bun rieu here. All were good. I would definitely come back. There hours are good and there's A GAZILLION dishes on the menu to choose from, it would be hard to not to find something you'd like here. Although I am a little suspicious how the food comes out at such a reasonable time, despite the menu being so vast. Come here for some no-frills Viet eats.

Casual and cheap Vietnamese food! There was a large menu with plenty of options to choose from. I got the pho with beef meatballs and the pork chops. Both were good food for the price. The restaurant had plenty of seating so probably not necessary to make a reservation unless you have a group 5 or larger.

Great vietnamese food. I had the pho with meatballs. The meatballs were delicious. They had a chewy bouncy texture. The calamari was fresh and chewy as well. I love that it came with carrots and jicama that were soaked in lime and sugar. The restaurant is bigger than it looks

It was dinner for 2. The pho broth was favorable, the beef was soft and tender, and the noodles were delicious. I’m not sure why but most Vietnamese restaurants in NY and NJ provide lemons and not limes with the pho. Another unique thing is the Hoisin sauce flavour varies but seems to be less sweet in NY/NJ and more concentrated. The Nam Son Combo King is called that for a reason. The plate is massive, the combo of meat, veggies, and vermicelli was delicious and flavourful. The shrimp roll on sugar cane was also very good. This is a plate to be shared with 2 unless you have a massive appetite. The pho $14, the Combo King $45, with tax and tip the total meal was $74.

My family has been coming here for as long as I could remember, dating back nearly 2.5 decades ago. Each year, on random days and on special occasions, we come here to have lunch or dinner or just to have a nice meal or place to catch up. Over the years, we have seen the prices increase astronomically. It is now twice as much as it was when we first started coming here. I understand the economy is also in a different place than it was but $16 for a pho now is insanely high when you can get one for $11 a few blocks away. Don’t get me wrong, pho here is pretty decent but in addition to soaring prices, the taste of the pho has taken a dip. I remember very rich broths but now it’s almost as if it’s been watered down to save on costs. While I don’t think the pho broth is as good as it used to be, the other dishes remain delicious! I’m a big fan of the pork chops here, although the amount given varies day to day. The beef cubes are also amazing and full of flavor. A plus is the waiters here are always efficient, polite and ready to help. They seem to know my parents and their needs/wants well. Haha after all, they’ve probably come to this restaurant well before I was even born. Everyone there is pretty chill and they don’t seem to ever kick you out so it’s a nice place to hang out with friends as well.

I was kind of hoping this place would be the hangover cure I was looking for but it wasn’t. I got number 5, brisket tendon tripe. Salted lemon soda. The spoons were pretty crazy, had solid teeth marks on it… bathroom wasn’t very clean either… I’ve definitely had better broth. Price was ok I guess since it was in Manhattan. Will opt for another pho place next time. Probably going to stick to Brooklyn if I want pho again.

Food was good! Not the best pho but definitely far from the worst! I gave it 4 stars because it was pricey for the location. It definitely used to be way cheaper. The spring rolls were probably the best item we had!

Good food. The only thing we weren’t happy about is that they charged us 20% tip for a party of two which was surprising and not told ahead of time. I’m usually ok with tipping myself - service was not great for a 20% tip water was served just the one time- they were busy . I’m not sure if it was because we were tourist but not too happy about it tbh. Good food though

The location of the restuarant is pretty convinient. It's just outside the Grand St. station. I went at around 1 PM on a Monday and it was packed. Didn't have to wait long however and got seated at a table with 4 seats for just the two of us so it was comfortable. I ordered a vermecelli bowl alongsides a Thai Tea and while the vermecelli bowl was decent, the Thai Tea was terrible. It tasted fake and artificial. The vermecelli bowl was huge. I could not finish it. The spring rolls were perfectly crispy and the grilled pork was only slighty too salty. However, paired with the noodles, it was perfect. The menu weirdly has different prices for cash and card. So if you are paying with card, just be aware, the price will be slightly higher. Overall, my experience was ok. It could've been better.

food is great, service not so much. Gave them a $2.88 tip and they said the tip wasn’t enough and i had to give them at least $5. Normally I would have no problem but the service was basically nothing besides them giving you your meal. When we tried to wave down a waiter, we were ignored. Tipping should be based on my own will and not forced upon. Will not be coming back.

I ordered a Vietnamese noodle soup to-go, and the packaging made no sense. The broth was filled to the top in a separate container, and the noodles/meat/herbs were in a paper takeout box—but they didn’t provide any bowl or large container to actually combine and eat it, and no one warned me I’d need to bring my own. Separating broth and noodles is fine, but customers should be able to eat the meal without having to find extra kitchenware at home. This was inconvenient and a poor takeout experience. I won’t be coming back.

Extremely disappointed! Ordered raw beef tenderloin pho noodle soup and beef slices are completely cooked & there is zero tenderloin. Informed them abt this & they said each bowl have only one of tendonlion, but was not and when asked about it they said it just melts in the soup. Ridiculous answer! lol This place used to be good. Now it’s crap and over priced. Stay far away.

We came here for pho on a cold day. There were 3-4 people in our group. We paid in cash. The menu clearly says no 3.5% charge if you pay cash, but they still tried to charge us. That is lying. They were very stingy with napkins. Every time we asked, they gave us only one napkin. They charge 50 cents for each to-go box (fine, but they don't tell you first- before you order) The prices in online photos are outdated, and they frequently change menu prices with no notice. three months ago a bowl of pho is 14.95$ now it’s 17$! The receipt is HANDWRITTEN and only shows the total. No item list, no tax, no tip shown. The total was more than what we ordered, so tax and/or tip were already included, but we were never told. The math did not add up. When we pointed this out, the cashier/owner just said "oh" and did NOTHING to fix it!! Then they had the nerve to ask for MORE tip on top of that. Absolutely shameless. I am a local, not a tourist, and this still happened to me. Imagine how visitors are treated. Be very careful here. I will not be coming back!!! Save your money and go else where
