This review is during the time of COVID and soon after it has opened. I was impressed with the precautions taken to safeguard guests from COVID. This starting when going in when people have to wait in a socially distanced manner. We had booked and entering the restaurant we noted the separated entrance and exit. We loved the food and the view and would come back again. Book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Lovely lunch outside after restrictions eased, post lockdown 3.0. The staff and customer service were excellent. We were put on a holding table to order a drink before a table in the sun was available. Nicely spaced tables and top quality food. Thanks

Lovely sea food with great views. Recommend the catch of the day - very well cooked. Service excellent.

Really good food, great friendly service and a lovely atmosphere. They have some great wines and are happy to match on the fly or on the menu. You've also got the view if you're on that side of the restaurant. I couldn't honestly knock the experience.

We were staying at the hotel for our tenth wedding anniversary, and choose to eat in the restaurant. The food was great, with very generous portions - I couldn't finish my main, so didn't have a dessert but they sounded great. The service was absolutely great too (, and the cocktails!). Breakfast the next morning was also delicious.

Very good food in a delightful setting overlooking the sea. The staff were spreading smiles along with good service.

Fancy restaurant right next to the sea. Service great. Food scrumptious. Atmosphere and staff friendly and attentive.

Excellent service as always, great location and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Beautiful restaurant. Good service. Crab arancini and scampi to share for starters and then wife had fish and chips and I had crawfish and clam linguine. All fantastic. Could've been busier. But slightly out of season I guess now. Was a lady singing, unfortunately for most in the restaurant she was behind a pillar so couldn't hear much! Was my birthday. And really enjoyed going there. Will return for sure.

We had the Valentine's Night set meal, which was excellent. The staff discounted our meal as we were too full to have the dessert, which was very generous 🩷

Took husband and family for 80th birthday long weekend. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and warm and looked after our group of 11 beautifully. Amazing "golf" birthday cake. Had breakfast on 3 days and dinner on 2 evenings.

Really loved our meal here. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed but the food was exceptional. All three courses were well balanced, well cooked and really delicious. Plus we had a great sea view. Highly recommend

I had the red mullet - catch of the day, it was small but delicious. My partner's fish and chips was light and crispy.

Checks the boxes but is not surprising, the view is nice but it all felt a bit just not there.

Food was delicious. Although small portions for price. Never received water. Asked 3 times.

Fresh seafood, quite good quality, bit too expensive (wines above all). Personally, I do not like sauces on my seafood, I think they would have been more tasty without. Excellent location, terrace just in front of the sea, no traffic, very peaceful. It's a must-try.

Always love coming here for the view, the beer and oysters. The service is always hit and miss, with the more senior bar staff - many of whom who don't appear to give a jot about customer service or experience - curt, barely if ever make eye contact, and honestly give the impression that those funding their existence are a sheer inconvenience. Staff working on the front terrace are also observed to drink there, which looks poor and is very easily avoided since are they frequently required to go behind the scenes to fetch things. In a local pub this is fine, in what the Brudenell pretends to be (and fails for the above reasons), it isn't. Oysters are great, served well, and very competitively priced. Adnams ales are well kept and of course the views make up for what is at best variable quality service.

Excellent seafood beautifully presented with smiling staff. We would recommend it but, you do need a good appetite. 🤗

Lovely and relaxed hotel. Well run. We had a few hiccups with our room which were acknowledged and sorted quickly. One meal was a little less than best but once again staff were understanding and fully refunded our meal to compensate. Though parking is limited, we managed to move our car nearer to the hotel on day 2. Would recommend for a quiet break away. The Eggs Benedict was marvellous!

D
David Smithers

We shared a very nice tian of crab as a starter and then had fish and chips for the main course. Good, solid cooking and not overly expensive.

J
Jon Ferdinand

Lovely location and lots of options on the menu. We sat outside to enjoy the view, but sadly, there is no table service if you do. There was no easy way of telling what the catch of the day is, and it would have been helpful to see this on a chalkboard or printed sheet. The food was great, and we really enjoyed the fresh seafood and tapas plates. The Fisher's gin cocktails are a must! I loved the smoked gin with Lime and ginger beer.

It is always great to have a sea view and a nice cold alcoholic beverage in hand on a hot sunny day right? This place in a perfect location for that! Service was ok, drinks prices were expensive but I guess it is expected being in a prime location in a tourist area. Didn't eat there, again because I thought it was expensive so was put off by the price. Toilets were cleaned to a high standard.

A
Aardvark Mindshank

Nice service and great view in the best sea-facing establishment in this very very special village.

J
John Baldock

Nice and reasonably priced. They have tables by the window looking out over the sea.

J
Joe Harari

Had a really lovely supper here. Menu is interesting and the choice of Tapas, which could be eaten as little dishes or starters was short but very tasty. Mains were well presented freshly prepared and delicious. Chocolate orange slice for dessert is amazing. The only reason for a 4 star review is that although much has been done to make the restaurant interesting, it still in some ways feels like a hotel dining room and lacks a certain restaurant vibe. This won't stop us returning.

R
Robert Budd

An acceptable meal. We had the fixed price menu - £29 for 3 courses. Not great value for what we had. Service was fine, atmosphere a little lacking. Better food and value available locally, but you're paying for the view

E
Elizabeth Morton

The restaurant is quite modern. Comfortable, we had s table next to the windows that cover the front of the restaurant with view of the beach. Service was excellent. Food was good, quite limited menu. I had lobster, it was good as you would expect lobster to be.

W
Warren Ainley

If I spend that much for dinner I expect the food and service to be over the top. To be honest the food was just OK and the service was slightly better. When the best thing in a pork meal are the vegetables that's disappointing

g
gary butler

average experience at best, part of a business meeting, food was ok but service was very poor. Despite pre ordering some of the party were still waiting for their main course 80 minutes after sitting down and the restaurant wasn't that busy. poor.

M
Mike Bursell

Disappointing food, and it's not clear what the restaurant is trying to be, in terms of decor, lighting and menu. While the food isn't cheap, the menus are A3 or so pre-printed cards. There's a black board with catch of the day (£30 for breaded halibut on new potatoes) and a couple of other options, which felt more like a London pub /not even gastro) than a restaurant trying to cater to a more well-heeled clinentele. Service was decent, but not outstanding.

L
Liz Rivers

We ordered the cod fish special on Sunday 19th November. The waitress didn't tell us it was £30.00!!!! This was a shock when we got the bill. We were a distance away from the specials board, so we relied on the waitress. Very shocked and disappointed. The dish was OK but nothing special and not worth London or Paris prices. We will not return.

W
William Loynes

Sadly our expectations were not met. The service was not attentive, in fact it was largely absent. Two hours for a two course meal. We ordered some water to have with the meal, but were not asked if we'd like any further drinks. The fish was overcooked. Not an horrendous experience, but not great either.

***Second update, was asked to send email with request to call and left tel number, nobody called *** update, I called to speak to manager as suggested in the reply, left two messages on two occasions and nobody called*** Such a lovely setting sitting on the front terrace but as usual the service was really slow, they need to have a good shake-up, it’s so disorganised. We were told to order at the bar, yet others had their orders taken at the tables. Only had two oat milk mochas and shortbread, but both items were the worst we have had in our lives. The mochas were so dark and bitter made with mainly water, we left both and the shortbread was thin, limp and dreadfully underbaked. Both items were the total opposite of what they should be. Politely left feedback with a waitress, but in hindsight we should have spoken to the manager for a refund. We’ve dined here many times but our allegiance will be switching to another Aldeburgh establishment.

D
Diana Nichols

Such a disappointment. Crab thermidor was nice but the house salad was only a large helping of mixed leaves. Clam linguine not warm and full of rocket leaves. Service very poor.

After 35 minutes the waitress hadn’t even taken our wine order. After asking …it was taken then they forgot to bring it to us.. had to ask again. Three of the mains dishes were unavailable including the crab… which two of us had wanted. When our food arrived… the starters were lovely but the mains were very disappointing. Lamb was only warm and the chips were hard and undercooked inside. We received apologies, a free desert and small discount which we appreciated. In all not the experience we had expected. Very disappointing.

R
Robin Goatley

Service, hospitality and wine quality excellent. Food not good at all. Moules mariniere tasteless and broth constitutents undercooked. Seafood linguini overcooked and lacking in protein components. Shame because the view was excellent.

My wife and I had a meal here last night and we were both really disappointed. The service was good and the staff were friendly but the food was poor to say the least. The tiger prawns with Asian slaw - The 3 prawns were overcooked and the asian slaw a child could make better for £14.00 it was awful. Our main meal the seafood pasta again all the seafood was overcooked and no real taste very frustrating and begrudged paying for the meal to be honest. Such a shame as if they could get the food to a reasonable standard they would be onto a winner with the location!

I visited this restaurant on my Birthday. Last week. The restaurant had lovely views and I was looking forward to the experience. My meal was dreadful . I chose the linguine with clams. ( the gluten free version). Spiral pasta arrived with no mention of it not being linguine this could have been fine but the meal had absolutely no flavour whatsoever. I’m pretty sure the clams had been frozen. The staff showed little interest or concern. I explained that I rarely complained. My husband’s crab dish tasted delicious but I was so mortified by my experience I just wanted to leave as soon as he had finished. Really disappointed.

C
Colin Creese

Very poor service as only had coffee but took far too long, 30 mins, staff blamed technical issues but no communication with us. Waitress spilled it into the saucers and onto the floor by the table. All in all cannot recommend.

N
Neal Branston

I’d give it zero stars if I could. My wife and I had intended to eat here for my birthday meal and had telephoned in advance. We were told as we were going to sit outside or in the lounge, as long there is a table no need to book. On arrival, there is a sign saying, please wait at the steps up to the restaurant. 2 staff including the manager, saw us waiting and walked off. There were several tables available outside. We went into the hotel and where we were further ignored. We eventually managed to catch him in the restaurant area. He was not wearing a mask or distancing at all. I explained we’d telephoned and looked at the table we’d spoken about outside or in the lounge. He looked me up and down and said they couldn’t help us as we don’t have a booking. He was insulting, totally unwelcoming and just shrugged his shoulders and said it’s not possible. He also seemed to be against others wearing a mask, and he came within about 10cm of me. I further explained it was my birthday, and he was very dismissive. I understand places are struggling with staff, but no need for rudeness or a horrid attitude and don’t tell people they can come for a table when they can’t. My wife then tried to explain, and eventually, he said we could sit on a sofa in a lounge to eat, which was fine. We waited about 10 minutes, but I was very unhappy at how I’d been treated and suggested to my wife we go elsewhere as I’m not going to enjoy it with their behaviour and how I’d been made to feel an inconvenience on my birthday. We phoned a local chain in Aldeburgh and promptly left. He did see us go and said, oh, a sorry half-heartedly whilst he cleaned up some outside tables that could have waited over severing customers. I certainly can’t recommend this place with the treatment we received, the total disregard for the pandemic / ruining my birthday somewhat. The chain restaurant we went to which is all we could do at short notice, after 45 minutes wasted here was like night and day, so friendly and helpful/welcoming and wearing masks. We’d been before but we will not return, nor would I recommend it to family or friends since they can’t get the basics right.

There was 1 girl taking orders and plenty of other staff milling around. 20 minutes later, still not even acknowledged, and it wasnt overly busy, so we left. We spent our money elsewhere
