The Dalton Almorox Reviews
No caben mejores recomendaciones.
GRACIAS.
Flipas. Me voy.
I chose El Coqui Puerto Rican Cuisine for my birthday meal with my husband and sons not just because I wanted Puerto Rican food, but because I was looking to connect with my Puerto Rican heritage in a meaningful way. After finding the restaurant online, I messaged them through Facebook to confirm they would be open since my birthday fell on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the drive was over an hour and a half. Jacqueline, the owner, responded right away, and from that very first message her kindness, thoughtfulness, and genuine hospitality were clear. She did more than confirm they were open. She warmly said please let me know if you need anything, followed up to ask who our server was when we arrived, and even checked in the next day to ensure we had a positive experience. That level of care and intention is truly special. The food was absolutely delicious. I was unsure how my boys would do since they are very picky eaters, but my oldest, who is seven and a half, happily ate every bite and gave several thumbs up. I would have been thrilled if he had just tried it, but he cleaned his plate. My youngest, who is four and typically does not like ice cream, announced after eating their handmade coconut ice cream that he loves ice cream now. The entire team was welcoming, hospitable, and genuinely kind. This experience went far beyond a birthday lunch. It was a beautiful connection to culture, family, and community, and one we will always remember.
We had El Coquí Puerto Rican cater lunch for our office, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the chicharrón de pollo, which was a huge hit. Everything was flavorful and perfectly prepared, from the rice and black beans to the tostones and maduros. And their homemade vinaigrette? So good, people kept asking about it. The service was just as impressive as the food. Communication was always reliable, delivery was smooth, and everything arrived fresh and ready to enjoy. Our entire office couldn’t stop talking about how great the meal was. I also love that El Coquí is a women-owned business, which made supporting them even more meaningful. With strong competition downtown, El Coquí truly stands out as a top contender thanks to its authentic flavors, excellent service, and professionalism. If you’re looking for amazing Puerto Rican food in downtown Santa Rosa, whether for catering or dining in, El Coquí is a must-try. We will absolutely be ordering from them again.
I go to El Coqui a lot and it’s always amazing. The food is consistently vibrant, flavorful and authentic. I highly recommend Pollo al Horno with sweet plantains to perfectly seasoned mofongo and hearty rice and beans plates. The portion sizes and quality stay top-notch every time. What really stands out is that it’s a women-owned spot, run with care and pride, making every visit feel welcoming and special. If you’re in Santa Rosa and craving real Puerto Rican cuisine this is the place. Highly recommend.
Randomly I wandered upon this restaurant. Since my sister in law is Puerto Rican I texted her the menu. I showed the text message straight to my waitress. I really had no clue what I was getting myself into but the food was incredible. I had enough for two meals and I wish I was local because I would eat here regularly.
El Coqui was SO helpful in organizing our group event in the private party room. They were able to accommodate a large group and worked with us to come up with a menu that stayed within our budget. I already loved coming here on my own, and now I know that this is a great place for group events too. Thank you so much to Tina and Erica for making our event awesome!
Never had mofongo this way before but I think Hubby will ask that we make at home this way in the future. The meat was stuffed inside the mofongo and the whole thing was served in the most flavorful broth I have ever had in a Puerto Rican restaurant. The Bacalaitos were on point too!
Found this place to take my fiance to enjoy a Valentine's dinner of his culture, since I don't cook Puerto Rican food. It was worth the hour and a half drive! Food was authentically prepared. Took our taste buds back to family cooking and reminded us of places we have eaten at in Puerto Rico. Very well priced. Adding to the island vibe that's on point, with decor and music. Don't forget to have a sangria. Wepa! Update of my review years later! April 27, 2025 we still love this place. Sol was amazing as our server and bartender. Her Coconut Pineapple Sangrias are so refreshing and tasty. My Camarones all Criollo tasted like home. Chicharrón de pollo will not disappoint. Cheers!
This is our third time coming here, a 2 hour drive, one time I brought my mother who was visiting from 🇵🇷. She was impressed with the taste and we've always loved it. Today our empanadillos came out cold, and we noticed the table next to us had the same problem, otherwise the service has been outstanding. We requested a new one, it came out hot and was delicious. We'll be back again👏🏻
Having just visited Puerto Rico we were delighted to find this restaurant in Santa Rosa! Food is extremely authentic and delicious. The chicken on my Canoa dish was perfectly seasoned and so tender! The homemade sauce that accompanied our scrumptious bacon-wrapped plantains was divine! Be sure to stop here for a taste of Puerto Rico!!!
We stopped by Santa Rosa on our way back from camping. Never tried Puerto Rican food before. It was a delight to have it for the first time. I ordered pollo al horno (roasted chicken thigh), with an extra fried egg. Pique gave the rice a bit spicy pickle taste. Also loved the sweet plantain. A wonderful meal at a great price.
Been wanting some Mofongo, ordered ours with shrimp "prawns" and pork belly (Chicharrón’s to me). it came in a nice sofrito sauce. Loved it all, hit all the notes I was looking for. Their fried plantains are light and crisp, perfect. Their Pique de pina is a great flavor enhancer. Awesome staff. ❤️🙌🏼🙏🏻 Great experience. Get the coconut flan! 💥❤️🔥
Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Overall: A good option for some island food in Santa Rosa. Would I come back: If I was in Santa Rosa and was craving some island food yes indeed. The extended review… Food: Canoa con carne molida - 3.5/5 - Never seen this dish at any other island restaurant. I’m a fan of all the components so gave it a go. I would have liked a little more meat but overall not bad. Flan - 4/5 - A very creamy and silky flan. Best of all it didn’t have the skin that results from overcooking. Service: 4/5 - Friendly and attentive service. Ambiance: 4/5 - A very festively decorated interior.
Very nice Puerto Rican restaurant in downtown Santa Rosa. They have great, tasty food and it actually impressed me. The plantains, chicken and fish, were cooked to perfection. Unfortunately the service on the other hand was horrible. Took 35 minutes for drinks to come out, and waitress on her phone. The sangrias were not authentic, not even a little bit. The rice pudding dessert was a 10/10
The restaurant itself is cute and presents a lot of main important parts of Puerto Rican history. The staff was pleasant. Service was slow. The food was not authentic Puerto Rican food, as we were traveling with someone with expertise in the food. We had a few dishes and none looked like they should. Such as fried chicken having no breading to it, mayoketch was an additional dollar if you want it. The platanos tasted off in comparison to other locations we have had them. None of us finished our food.
I had really high expectations for this place since I saw lots of good reviews that said that it was one of the best PR food spots the Bay Area. Ambiance was nice. Service was bad but food was worse. We got the tostones de carne and the pollo al horno. We even paid extra to make the tostones “rocky style” because the waitress said it was better and they were nothing but bland, no taste whatsoever and the plantain was hard and tasteless. As for the pollo, I really was hoping I’d be amazing since it said that it had won an award somewhere for best dish in the county, but was extremely disappointed. I’m aware the portions during lunch are smaller but this plate was TINY. I was not expecting it at all specially for the high price. The chicken was alright, not super tender and very minimal flavor. And the sides (beans and plantain) very bland as well, it was our first time trying plantain and were really let down. The only thing I really enjoyed was the coco soda. Overall, it was a bad experience, as Mexicans we were really exited to try PR food for the first time, but this place really wasn’t the move.
Me he sentido estafada.
I also visited the restaurant and had a very bad experience with the same waitress. The waitress who attended us is the one who speaks Spanish, and yet her attitude was completely inappropriate. When I asked about a dish, she responded in a rude manner, with no intention of helping and with a very bad attitude. She showed no interest in providing good service and made us feel uncomfortable during our visit. It’s disappointing that in a place with such good food, the service from this Spanish-speaking waitress was so negative. I hope the restaurant takes action, because the experience really left a lot to be desired.
