Ginger Anchorage Reviews
amazing service and food! i went in for a solo dinner right when they opened and the staff was very sweet and attentive. i started with the tuna over crispy rice and it was very flavorful and a generous amount of tuna. the rice was the perfect texture, crispy but just soft enough to pair with the tuna. the steak frites was delicious. my steak cooked perfectly rare and the fries tasted very fresh. the banana foster cheesecake egg rolls were the perfect dessert. like actually insane once the server put them on my table it only took her like 3 minutes to take my cleared plate. i ordered them with vanilla ice cream which i highly suggest.
Over the top food and drinks, artfully crafted to mimic an Upscale LA or NY experience. Very nice for special occasions. Modern food, incredibly attentive service with stellar recommendations. I’d term it posh but not pretentious in style, quite nice without feeling too fancy- well worth going at least once
Ginger was exceptional from start to finish. The general tso’s fried chicken was the best meal! Hit every note and was plated beautifully. Definitely recommend Ginger!
The dish I got was the scallop Mac and cheese and what a treat. Not nearly as overtly oily as it might suggest with the addition of peppers. My aunt got the green curry which she loved. Fair warning the hot sauce they make in house is HOT but so flavorful. Fantastic evening. Worth the money.
Amazing banana foster egg roll. Duck was good but not enough fried rice to accompany it. My friends scallop mac and cheese was great too but the scallops were kind of small. Overall delicious, and amazing service.
Bri was the server and she was a pleasure. The food was delicious 😋 especially the curry. There's nothing better than good food, good drinks, good company and great service.
Our service started with a smile from the hostess asking if we were celebrating any special occasions. Our sever asked again which is a nice touch. He made sure we didn't have time constraints or food allergies. We ordered the seared scallop appetizer that was fantastic. They were cooked Pittsburgh style perfectly and the sauces were not overpowering and allowed the freshness of the scallop to come through. We moved onto the Poke Bowl and the Grilled Duck. The Poke Bowl was a great value with the amount of tuna involved. The duck was very tasty, but IMO slightly overcooked, but that may be what the masses want. The beer selection was very balanced and the Stellum Rye Old Fashioned was only missing a nice cherry. Otherwise, the drink rocked! Great service, food, and drink!
Great downtime-Anchorage dining experience with delicious, Asian-fusion food, cocktails, service, and ambiance. The restaurant offers many gluten-free and vegetarian options on the menu.
Had a excellent meal good experience and very delicious drinks mason was a very good sever recommend him
This is an upscale restaurant which is in the middle of downtown, Anchorage. The food was very fancy but delicious, as was the price! Food: Delicious! Decent number of vegetarian options too. I tried their tofu quinoa salad - I don't know what they did with the searing but it was the most delicious salad I've ever had! Also, their banana lemongrass soup was amazing! Price: I wouldn't go back multiple times but definitely worth trying if you're visiting Anchorage. Parking: there are paid parking lots around the corner Ambience: Definitely a date- night sort of a place. Wouldn't recommend sneakers.
The tofu salad is so yummy and healthy. It does have a lot of flavors. The tofu which is crispy and delicious. The portion of the tuna tower is large. We have the seafood special and it is Rock fish and chips . Since we share the dish, the chef separated the dish into two halves and it still looks so large. We are so full.
This place has been on my radar for a long while, and I finally stepped in for dinner one night while visiting Anchorage. I love the menu from top to bottom, but I just went for some apps: banana and lemongrass soup, satay skewers, and fresh spring rolls. The dishes are definitely influenced by Thai flavors and everything was filled with bright and unique flavor combos. The sweet and spicy dipping sauce for fresh rolls made them excellent; the chicken could have stood alone but the sauce made them even better; the soup was like a sweet and rich curry and had a large portion for the price. The place has a classy, but casual vibe, plenty of space, cozy booths, and bar/table seating as well. Service was good and very quick. Thumbs up!.. I'll be back next time.
Love the vibe and Vietnam style dishes, especially the curry beef one. Although waited for quite long, but services were very nice and accommodating!
Great staff and even better food. I had the wings and egg roll appetizers and the panang curry. Paired it with an old fashion that was delicious. Highly recommend this place for a special occasion since it is on the higher end in regard to price as will as it is best to have a reservation.
Great service and cocktails. The “Reese …” (I’m blanking on the name) dessert cocktail and the bananas foster eggrolls were very good. We had a lovely dinner
Ginger perfectly suits Anchorage’s unique and delicious food scene. I had the lemongrass and banana soup, the fried Gruyère crusted risotto balls, and the Panang beef curry. Everything was delicious. Service was outstanding and portions were appropriate (which is saying a lot because I have a huge appetite). Highly recommended!
Overall a very positive experience! The drinks we had were strong and tasty, and we had a couple appetizers with chicken lettuce wraps and the spicy tuna tower. The tuna tower definitely packs some heat! We then split the special of the night, a seared salmon with jasmine rice and veggies. The employees were all very pleasant and attentive as well (always make sure to treat your wait staff with respect 😊) a great cozy and warm atmosphere for a nice night out!
Just got home from a 60th anniversary celebration with 13 family members coming in from out of town. Risking sounding a bit snobby, our party was made up of folks from NYC, LA and Palm Beach, and we were hopeful but not especially optimistic about dinner in Anchorage, AK - not necessarily known as a culinary hotspot. Man, were we wrong. Every single one of us was positively blown away by everything at Ginger. From the friendly, warm reception to the expert service, the fun, accommodating team to the slick decor, everything was top notch. But the food... Oh wow, the food was jaw-droppingly good. Just way above the bar excellent. Original, interesting, eclectic and unique dishes expertly prepared, gorgeous presentation, and just downright delicious. With wild combinations of flavors I would never have thought of that just melded perfectly together, combinations I've never seen anywhere else, unique takes on familiar dishes, and world class preparation of tried and true standards, nothing that came across our plates was anything but stellar. The crispy rice and spicy tuna tartare starter was just the right amount of heat and crispness to go with the texture of the very fresh tuna, the sesame ginger Caesar was a really unique and interesting take on an old standard, the general tso's Nashville chicken was possibly the best fried chicken dish I've ever had - chickpea flour breading was an innovative choice that paid off in spades and the addition of Nashville spice to the expected Asian flavors just put it over the top. But the first course was a soup of the day - a pistachio, ginger, mint puree concoction that just sent everyone over the moon - bowls were being repeatedly passed around the table because no one wanted anyone to get away without trying it... It was the perfect start to set the tone for what ended up being the perfect meal and the perfect evening. Whatever they are doing back of house at Ginger, they've found a way to make a magical little spot where everything landed right, and I couldn't recommend a visit any higher no matter where or when you are looking for a fantastic dining experience. Oh - and an expertly designed wine list with very unique selections was just icing on a perfect cake. 5 stars with an A+ topping.
I went to Ginger yesterday, mainly for the hot wings since I heard they were one of the best here in town. The atmosphere here was nice, the place was busy, don't mind the 2 women up front as they seemed useless and gun shy of getting anything done. They seemed to ignore me, or did not know what to do. For a while I thought maybe they treated me the way they did because I was native or not in formal wear. One of the managers, or owners seemed to be getting things done, placing people in open seats. Clearing up tables and he seemed to be on top of everything during that busy night. Every bite of the hot wings was amazing, i never had the hot wings this good. It had a sweet taste to it, with a nice seasoning to it. The ahi tuna tower for me was "alright" it wasn't my type of tuna. I think it needed a little bit more "something" like it was missing a piece of a puzzle that was incomplete. The tuna was fresh, it just tasted too plain for me. I don't remember what drink I bought, but it had a zesty zingy taste to it. A little too sweet even after adding more water to it. I usually don't order desserts, the ginger pear cheese cake was a nice. I loved the jim beam caramel sauce they added to it, maybe adding a cherry or strawberry to the cheese cake would have completed it. I'll come here again, and try other types of food on the menu in the near future.
I've been coming here for 6 years and their quality has been consistent. The menu has changed a bit over time but the mac and cheese is honestly one of the best I've had in my life. The cocktails are amazing. The staff is friendly. And all the food is so good. If you can reserve, this place is quality and can fill up quickly.
A wonderful experience: from the moment we walked in till the last bite of the delicious Blueberry Eggrolls dessert! The short rib entrée cooked to perfection, as well as the sea scallops “mac & cheese”! We loved everything about the place: the location, the atmosphere, the staff and most importantly their dishes!
Favorite restaurant on the entire trip! We loved the atmosphere, and the food and drinks were the best. We were immediately seated, and our food and drinks came quickly! We got the tuna tower, chicken caesar salad, and stuffed french toast. For drinks we had the perfect peach and the lavender cosmo. I highly recommend coming here, you can’t go wrong with any of the menu items!
Ginger is amazing! The atmosphere is fun! Loud and classy. We had chicken wings and cheese cake I had the special and they were all phenomenal! Will be back and I hope soon!
Presentation is 9/10th of the dining experience AND the food was good so 10/10. Ginger is a nice low light, high quality joint. It's not the best meal I ever at but enjoyed the entire experience. Great bar for solo diners as well
Lovely spot to get food in downtown anchorage. I’ve been there twice already and each time the service was great. Good service and delicious food is among all the good things this restaurant offered. I ordered the General Tso anders and I was not disappointed. I will definitely be going there again.
I had amazing service at the bar. Amanda was kind and quick! I was in town for a solo trip and am so glad I checked this place out. I wanted to grab dinner before sundown, so I arrived around 5:40 and there wasn’t a crowd. As I left (close to 6:30), the crowds rolled in. Glad I went early! The poke bowl was possibly the best I’ve ever had. If I ever go back to Anchorage, I will be back!
The poke bowl was really good, but I felt like it was to share and not have for dinner alone. The Panang beef curry was beautifully presented, but lacked flavor and heat in my opinion. But great beautiful atmosphere. The drinks were delicious.
The food here is to die for! It was nice we were able to make a reservation for our family of six for our first vacation to alaska. Personally I had the banana lemongrass soup, which is one of the best and most unique things I’ve ever had. I also had the beef curry and it was just as phenomenal. We had the green tea creme brûlée for dessert and it was so fresh. This is the type of place where you can just point randomly at the menu and be entirely content with what you get. 10/10 recommend!
Great food. Nice waiter. We didn't have a reservation but they were kind enough to fit us in. Would definitely stope here again.
Excellent food and excellent service. We stumbled upon this place through Google and are so happy we did!! The food was plentiful and the dishes were unique and very tasty. It’s obvious the chef puts a great deal of thought into each dish. The tuna tower was so good my dad and I had to have our own for an appetizer. there were very tasty options for a vegetarian like my father, I had the Cajun General Taos chicken thighs and was blown away by the flavor. Thank you for an excellent meal.
It is our first meal in Alaska! We are so happy to get a seat pretty fast on a busy Friday night at this very popular restaurant. I am craving for Asian food, so we choose this Asian fusion restaurant. It was amazingly delicious. The Mee Krob I got is like a Thai style stir fried noodles, with big prawns, porks and chicken. The flavor is spicy and sweet, but it's not spicy for me as I can handle spicy very well. I highly highly recommend this dish. My husband was very happy about his dish as well, the lettuce wraps with chicken, with a little curry flavor, it's quite great. The cocktail is nice too, a little bit slow, but we can tell they are busy, it's fine. And the service is very lovely.
We loved the Mac & cheese with Klondike scallops (pictured). Perfectly cooked fresh halibut. All good things. This is our favorite downtown Anchorage restaurant and we hope to return someday. Highly recommended!
Wonderful dining experience here. I ordered the beef curry, which was very good and it was a large portion. The risotto balls appetizer was also very tasty. We had a very nice server, and quick service. You may need reservations depending on what time of day and what day of the week you visit.
Our server Parker really set the bar high for Anchorage dining with his outstanding service. 10/10 will dine here again. All staff members were friendly and you could tell they were working hard to keep the operation going. The food was perfect. We had a larger group and they handled it well with everything coming out at once, fresh and expertly put together. Presentation was on point and nothing was off about this dining experience. My only regret is not eating here sooner.
This review is a tad bit older, but warrants posting: Chicken and waffle! This beast was delicious! The chicken was moist and fried to perfection. The sweet 'esque waffle contrasted it perfectly. Ye of meager appetites beware! The environment was very chill, and the service was friendly, though they were slightly preoccupied with tasks. I need to head back and experience Ginger again, it has been too long. Full bar and great food, yes please!
Always a lovely time at Ginger. The staff was so attentive and wished me happy birthday, the food arrived quickly, correctly, and was delicious. I highly recommend the scallops or whatever they have on special. The atmosphere is very nice as well. We'll definitely be back.
Lovely food. And service. The Mac and cheese with scallops is my favorite entree. The poke bowl is the best appetizer.
Definitely worth a try when you are in downtown Anchorage. The menu have lots of fusion and also more traditional options and they all sound really good. I had the Scallops “Mac & Cheese” and it was really tasty, would’ve love a few more scallops though. Attentive service and classy interior.
Rarely am I tempted by both the cocktails and dessert, but the offerings by Ginger were so spectacular that I had to indulge in both. Add in professional service and an entree to die for and I was left with a truly great dining experience. (The green sauce on the pork chops was seriously unreal. Great job!)
This is my favorite restaurant in anchorage. The bar tenders are great and have a ton of experience and knowledge on drinks. They have a great selection of different alcohols. The food is also very tasty. I’ve enjoyed everything I have ordered. I’m in and out of anchorage for work and this is my go too place. It’s a must to check out.
Absolutely delightful experience! I confessed to the server that this was my first time at Ginger - Time and time again I would look at the menu online, and want to go whenever in Anchorage (from south thereof) and with great enthusiasm, she went out of her way to ensure my company and I enjoyed every bit of it. The food was flavorful, and served in dishes I felt I could push things around in/on without creating a mess. Cloth napkins. Rich red and amber color tones throughout with standout décor pieces created the appearance of an ‘upscale’ atmosphere, however - in a hoodie and work pants, I wasn’t made to feel out of place, and that was highly appreciated! Staff was attuned to customers body language and signals and responded accordingly. Every member of this team that I engaged with made eye contact and smiled sincere. I was offered a dessert menu, and there’s places I’ve dined out at that seem to have given up asking when they see that appetizer AND entree rounds were finished. I ordered the beef curry for an entree and the chicken skewers for an appetizer and 10/10 would recommend both. 10/10 would recommend Ginger - whatever you choose to get! Thanks, team!!!! 💛
So tasty! Will definitely go again. It’s quite pricey but is one of the few restaurants in town that cook with fresh, whole ingredients.
Food was solid 8/10. A little overpriced but still good food. Service was good. $100 for 2 people. I would return just to try other dishes, but I feel like I can get better asian food for cheaper. The wings were the best dish. The creme brulee was not good to me nor my husband.
Great experience. The service was fantastic, Sean did an excellent job being attentive and helpful. The place was clean. I was expecting the food to be through the roof amazing. The wings, Mac and cheese and blueberry eggroll dessert were the best part of the meal. Drinks were good. Aged steak and fresh spring rolls were good. Asian sesame ginger ceasar was just ok.
The food is very yummy and they also have vegan options! The servers were very friendly as well! I think their servings are a bit small for the price but overall we had no issues and the place was very clean! Parking is hard to find since it is downtown so make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes since it might be a bit of a walk to get there!
Great spot for date night and I love the atmosphere. The drinks were great along with the appetizers. I had the filet mignon and it tasted absolutely amazing with the sauce. It was just how I imagine and could not make date night better. My date bought the same thing but we both agreed the carrots were a little undercooked.
I have always loved ginger. I keep going back because of the consistency of the food and drinks. The Mac and cheese, chicken lettuce wraps and the meekrob are always delicious, but this last time that I went was so strange. I got the meekrob. The shrimp tasted fine, but oddly enough the chicken and the sausage in my dish tasted so fishy that I couldn’t even eat the meat. My boyfriend got the drunken noodles, and they were so salty that they were almost inedible. We do not complain when we go out, and I have NEVER sent food back to the kitchen. I’m not that kinda girl. I grin and bear it, but I was pretty disappointed this last time eating there. Born and raised in Alaska and local to Anchorage, it’s one of my staples, but I don’t know how much I’ll be eating there in the future.
Good mixology. Food was promising but only tried one dish so a little soon to judge. Service varied with the individual
Anchorage isn't, perse, a haven for vegetarians so when you find a nice spot that at least has something on the menu it's worth a try. The vegan curry on their menu is what brought my wife and me in to this spot, one of the nicer restaurants in town. The cocktail menu was also enticing with great names and combinations of things begging to be sampled. I started with the Carthusian Coconut Cocktail. This was generally disappointing both in look and taste...Filling up about about a third of a cocktail glass it looked like more of a shot of a clear spirit with a lemon peel included. With all kinds of fun things listed in the menu that were included it ended up tasting like water down Mezcal without really any discernable coconut or other flavors listed in the drink's ingredients. Our server offered to fix or replace it but after he came back with a report from the bartender that "any modifications would ruin the drink" I opted to stick with water and my entree. We both got the vegan curry with no modifications. It tasted great and was filling, served over rice. Looked beautiful too. I would have liked it a tiny bit more spicy as it was on the mild side of things. There weren't any other vegetarian mains on the menu but the curry was filling enough. Our server had a great sense of humor, took care of us well, and didn't charge us for the drink which we sent back. I wish there were more vegetarian options on the menu and would hesitate to try another drink after the bartender's declaration about the one we sent back.
Steak was chewy. For a $30 steak I would expect to cut it with a fork. Fries were very salty. Like shake the salt off before eating. Drinks were not very good. Very tart cosmo, second drink tasted like the rind of the orange, although better than the Cosmo. The wellness Collins was the best of what drinks we ordered and it wasn't something to brag about.
