Favella Grill Astoria Reviews
Favela Grill is one of the best Brazilian food from NYC. I recommend the moqueca, which is a fish stew. Weekends and Fridays are the best because they have live music.
Celebrated a bday and the waiter was amazing!! So attentive and very nice. Food was great. Definitely recommend the carne seco !!
Wonderful restaurant, we have been coming here for many years and never are disappointed. The service, food, and environment is truly unique and a 10/10.
Food never disappoints. Their caldo verde is to die for. I always order it every time I come. The ambiance is cool and relaxed. The service is good and cordial.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The staff especially Hans is friendly and the place was clean and cozy. Highly recommend!
One of the best steakhouses in the city. Great staff! So much fun, can’t wait to go back. Great place to hang
I loved this restaurant! The food was excellent, the service was great, and the live music was a plus. I’m definitely coming back!
Amazing food, great music, and excellent service! The staff is so friendly and welcoming — I felt right at home. For sure, when I come back to New York, I’ll be back here. Highly recommend!
Lunch special is really good and the service was great. The place felt cozy and the music was lovely.
Great experience! Food is amazing and service is really good! Love the place really recommend
The food is amazing as always and Hans took very good care of us. I’ve been coming here for years and will continue to come for my special occasions. Thank you guys so much for continuing the good service
Outstanding service! The best hospitality one can get from Hans, Percy, ,Angelica….standing ovation for the attentiveness and positive energy!! The food is being delicious.!! Thank you all!! No wonder I come from Manhattan specifically for this restaurant!! Two thumbs up to you all!!
This is the best Brazilian restaurant in town . I strongly recommend it. The staff is quite friendly and the food is completely authentic. I had dinner Thursday night and it was all perfect .
We love Favela! The food is great and tonight with live music was a bonus! Costela bam bam and Picanha are ours fav food! And don’t forget the caipirinhas! Yummy!
Costela Bam Bam and Picanha were both excellent. Highly recommend either, especially the Costela Bam Bam - the meat falls off the bone. Will certainly be here again. Service great, food great, atmosphere great.
We went to celebrate my older brothers birthday! Wow just the live singing our server the aesthetic the intimate setting. Left so happy - thank you
This place has earned every positive word I say about it. The dishes here taste fantastic. Elevating the experience, the proprietor is incredibly kind and detail-focused. This place offers meals of exceptional standard. The menu costs more but offers proper value.
The food is very authentic and the service is excellent. Everybody so friendly. Will definitely go back!
I enjoyed eating here. The atmosphere both indoors and outdoors was pretty good. Seems that the team works in tandem and we were helped by multiple servers and the bartender was super nice. There was also live music too. And I was treated fairly. Don’t believe the post that mentioned being treated differently because of skin color. I’ve never gotten that sort of treatment here. I’m dark chocolate so I would know or sensed it. They’re pretty good people and the folks complaining about automatic gratuity usually have no desire to tip at all.
Amazing service! Hans gave exceptional service and made the experience even more of a joy. 10/10 recommend trying out Favela.
The food was delicious and there were tons of options to satisfy us and even our picky eater kids. Everyone was super friendly and we’re looking forward to coming back again soon. From my 8-year-old daughter: “this is one of the most delicious meals of my life. I want to come here tomorrow!”
My mother and I went to celebrate her birthday and we got treated with nothing but kindness and amazing tabling service. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious and when asking to have a surprise birthday desert they executed and delivered it with amazing singing; having us be excited and filled with laughter. This was truly an amazing dinner and I couldn’t have imagined a better place to have my mom’s birthday dinner.
We had a fabulous time here recently in a large group. They even had live music! The food was delicious. The service was prompt and friendly, and I look forward to my next visit. It’s not too far from the subway it had the windows open for the summer and felt really nice . This was my first time trying this cuisine and everything was really great. I got to try a bunch of different dishes and everything was cooked really well and it was just a great restaurant experience that I highly recommend.
I love this place!!! Service was amazing! We had a group of 13 people and Hans was excellent!!! Super attentive, helpful and friendly. Food came fast and delicious!! Everybody was very happy! Definitely recommend it!!
Shout out to the chef for the grill, they serve the BEST plantain in NY. The flan dessert reconnected my girlfried to her childhood and it gave us more context. The service was quick and the waiter was personable…looking forward to coming back for their live music on weekends
They have a lot of Good Brazilian food options and the portions are big, can easily be shared by two. Not vegetarian/vegan friendly (except for the appetizers). The banana cake is one of the best desserts. The manjar de coco (coconut pudding) is also very tasteful. Nothing much on the drinks menu though.
Food is great, huge portions my son ordered the Tomahawk steak & it was delicious. The staff was attentive although they were busy. Absolutely amazing
Delicious food with great portions. The atmosphere was very relaxed and accommodating. Highly recommend!
Had a wonderful birthday celebration for our friend at Favela Grill! Our server and the staff were warm and welcoming. Food was delicious! Loved the ambiance. Would definitely come back.
Always a great time! Love the food, best Picanha! Camila and Perci make the best passion fruit coconut caipirinhas! And Hans always so attentive and nice! Thank you for teaching us how to say some words in Portuguese!
The place offers good food with friendly employees. This restaurant was especially good. These workers know customer service. Quality dishes at fair prices is what they provide. This is conclusively so.
The food here was to.die for. The steaks amazing. Sangria was definitely spiked delicious! Can't wait to come back. Oh wait, the service awesome.
The food was really good the atmosphere was great the customer service was the best honestly the staff was amazing the drinks my mom had the best birthday thank you guys
We live right around the corner from Favela and it has taken us too long to visit. The food was absolutely delicious, plentiful, and reasonably priced. We both had beef, which was tender and beautifully cooked. The entire staff was so friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back!
My bf took me here for Valentine’s Day and baby we had a TIME. We were very lucky to have found a place last minute to have availability on the day of Valentine’s Day first and for most. The server was absolutely amazing, he was very patient with us as we don’t speak nor understand Portuguese. The entire menu is in Portuguese which isn’t a bad thing for those who wish to expand the palette. I had the chicken w cognac sauce, it was absolutely delicious. Everything on the menu sounds intimidating but trust me what I had was DELICIOUS. For des, we had the banana and ice cream flambé!!! Run don’t walk to order that dish! Perfect way to end your night (:
I love Brazilian food, so I can’t believe I haven’t been to Favela grill in Astoria - Queens before. Their pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese buns) were amazing and their picanha was very filling and very tasty. Service was very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely come back .
Came here for Valentines Day with my family- 2 adults and 3 kids. Great atmosphere and loved the decor. The staff was very friendly and very attentive. The food was the best, we started with some appetizers and for our main dish we had the churrasco and the rib dish. My kids devoured their plates. We will definitely be coming back and I definitely recommend this place. Very kid friendly as well.
Absolutely loved my experience at Favela! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was full of energy — vibrant music, beautiful decor, and that welcoming Brazilian spirit. The food was incredible — fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. Every dish felt authentic and made with love. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. I highly recommend trying the picanha, feijoada, and their signature caipirinha — you can taste the culture in every bite and sip! Favela is definitely one of my favorite spots — great for date nights, family dinners, or a fun night out with friends. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit! 🇧🇷✨
The atmosphere here was great and the service was wonderful. The food was absolutely incredible and worth more than the price. We will definitely come here again!!!!!!!! Highly recommend!!!!
If You're in town and enjoy a lovingly steak dive with a very cozy and romantic atmosphere is this the place! Food, Wines, drinks and Service along with the live music 🎶 made celebrating my daughter's birthday! 🎂 🥳 Thank you for everything..I willll)llllk
Amazing experience. The meat quality is spectacular and the "any drink" as a pitcher was the cherry on top Mistook 2 and 3 recommended
Great spot for a taste of Brazil, definitely recommend the premium caipirinha! Our service was fast (contrary to what I was told) and the food was excellent, my party and I sat outside I bit distracting but that's what you get sitting outside, inside did however seem well ventilated and temperature controlled but on a nice day I'd sit outside...
Favela is an absolute gem! The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm hospitality and a vibrant atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. The Brazilian food is incredible full of authentic flavors, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully presented. Every dish tastes like it was made with heart. The service is truly outstanding. The staff is attentive, friendly, and goes above and beyond to make sure you have the best dining experience. It’s rare to find a place where both the food and service shine equally, but Favela gets it just right. Highly recommend if you’re craving delicious Brazilian cuisine and exceptional service! Will definitely be coming back. 🇧🇷
Excellent casual establishment where you can get delicious Brazilian steak. We ordered the ‘churrasco mixto 2’ which included 3 picanha (top sirloin) steaks, 2 skirt steaks and your choice of chicken or sausage. We went with the chicken. The dish is served with rice and black beans, but we also ordered the ‘Favela Chic’ salad and ‘Pão de Queijo’ (cheese bread). Everything was delicious and plentiful to say the least. Steak was cooked perfectly and the side dishes were fresh and tasty. Ambience on a Sunday evening was chill and the staff were very cordial. Will definitely go back!
Food was amazing. Waiter (forgot his name) was amazing as well, so friendly. Will definitely return!
Our server Hans was outstanding. He was attentive, positive and guided us to have the perfect meal for our taste. The food was excellent and we will return (mostly for Hans) !
Our favourite Brazilian restaurant in Astoria, New York. The food is outstanding, good presentation, and the flavor is always spot on. The atmosphere is welcoming with nice music at a good volume, allowing you to have a smooth conversation. The staff are kind and attentive.
Walked in randomly on a Monday. Angelica and Marco were very kind and friendly. The food was delicious, steak was juicy, nice and tender. Great dinner party or date night spot. Definitely coming back again.
Love coming here. As someone who hasn’t been to Brazil in a very long time, it’s nice to feel like there’s a little piece of the country here in Queens. Food is yums, the staff are super friendly, and it’s just a good time.
This is my first time here, and I will definitely come back. The food was delicious, and the serve was superb. Great please to try delicious Brazilian food.
I had a wonderful experience at the restaurant thanks to Hans’ amazing service! From the very beginning, he was extremely kind, professional, and attentive to every detail. He made everything smooth, pleasant. His friendliness and dedication truly made a difference. It’s rare to find someone who combines efficiency with such a warm and welcoming attitude. Hans went above and beyond and made the experience even more special. I will definitely come back and highly recommend it!
Great food and service! I was there last week for a birthday dinner. Astoria has a lot of gems, and this is one of them. The prices are amazing, as I was shocked because Brazilian food in NYC can be very pricey. But delicious and I will be back again every time I have saudades o Brasil!!!
As an introvert, I dislike restaurants that try to be nightclubs in regard to noise volume. There was live music when I was there, and lowkey, I was preparing for the worst. However, the band was a boop and music selections were A1! It was the absolute highlight of dinner. Stick to the Grilled meats -- SO delicious. I'd avoid the seafood dishes (but the octopus was great!). Desserts were too sweet for my preference, but to each their own. Service was also lovely and accommodating for our big group. Would absolutely revisit.
The restaurant feels like your stepping Rio de Janeiro, the music is nice. Clean place, fantastic space. The food is by the best reminder home. My grandma and parents say it feels like eating at a steakhouse back home in the 90s. I love the steaks, cooked perfectly with the right mix of meat and fat. The sausage are great, per my dad. My grandma's favourite thing though is the pao de queijo.
Absolutely loved Favela! The food was authentic, fresh, and so delicious. Our server Hans was the highlight of the night — funny, warm, and truly amazing. The live music on a Friday night was also perfect, great songs and a good vibe for dinner time. We were too full for the banana flambé, but Hans convinced us it’s a must for next time… and we will definitely be back to try it! Highly recommend.
We went here for my brother's birthday. We celebrated with a few family members, and we had a toddler with us. We had a great experience. There was live music, which added a great touch. Other patrons of the restaurant were also celebrating birthdays, which was a lot of fun. The food was delicious. The drinks were great. It was a wonderful time, you should visit soon.
Tried for the first time after finding it on IG. The place does not disappoint, food came out within reasonable time. Location is very local and the atmosphere was chill for a good dinner. Outdoor seating is available. Waiter had great recommendations! Will come back on Friday or Saturday as they offer live music! Come and try!
Favela is such an amazing restaurant. Their food is great quality and packed with flavor. Definitely get the $65 meat combo and the Sea Bass fish stew. The banana dessert was so delicious and my absolute favorite is that the staff were so happy, polite, and helpful. My experience here was superb!!
We love this place. The bam bam was a one of a kind dish. The food was full of flavor. However, we were surprised that chimichuri was not included with the steak. Fun and casual. Can’t wait to return.
Went here last night with wife and some friends. We got a bunch of stuff: salgadinhos, linguiça calabresa for apps, bean soup, bacalhau à Gomes de Sà, picanha, frango grelhado, and moqueca. The great: The linguiça was excellent! It was best I’ve had outside of Brazil. The bean soup was also great; the moqueca was excellent (especially the pirão) but moqueca is kind of hard to mess up; the picanha was also excellent, cooked rare. The hot sauce (malagueta infused oil) was excellent and authentic tasting. The ok: beef pasteis were pretty good and the coxinhas were fine. The grilled chicken was also ok; my wife got it and liked the mashed potatoes a lot. The not so good: both the bolinhos de bacalhua and the Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá main dish tasted as if the salted fish had not been soaked long enough, making it too fishy and underseasoned except for salt. Also the Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá I’ve had in Brazil and at Portuguese restaurants in the US has been served more as a casserole; this was like a pile of shredded fish with the other components not well integrated. Still, amazing place. So excited to live nearby!
Stopped by here based on the pictures and instagram. Amazing Brazilian steak! Was blown away by the food. Don't go to Astoria very often. So we decided to drop by for lunch. The mega beef rib was insanely tender. Melt in your mouth. Meaty. Beefy. The picanha was equally delicious. I had on medium rare. Tender and juicy. It went really well with the salsa. We also rice and beans as sides. I recommend the red beans. Amazing portions. Could probably feed a family of 4. Definitely enough for 3 adults. The service was okay. I guess we were a bit early. Felt a bit rushed near the end. I was trying to finish my rice but waiter was already collecting the dishes. It was empty at the time. No sure why the rush. But the food was definitely worth it.
First time fejouida and caipirinha. Caipirinha was great. They separated the fejouida components for some reason, which my Brazilian friend told me was not usual. Smoked sausage was the best, pig ear was satisfying, and fatty beef was so comforting. I would call it a Chipotle burrito bowl + meat value but without the strong Mexican flavors. Toasted cassava added nuttiness. Forgot our cheese bread. You may be charged a tip for a party of 3, even like us.
The restaurant offers a pleasant setting to enjoy a quality steak and a good drink with loved ones. The food was enjoyable, the atmosphere charming, and the service generally satisfactory—until an issue arose regarding the gratuity. According to the menu, a tip is automatically included for parties of four. However, we were a group of three individuals, and the tip was still automatically added to our bill. When I politely mentioned that tipping should be optional, the waiter responded with a noticeable change in attitude. I had intended to leave a cash tip, but his demeanor prompted me to leave a smaller amount instead. Later, while I was in the restroom, I was informed that the waiter expressed to my friend that he was dissatisfied with the tip amount and believed he deserved more. He also questioned what explanation he would provide to his manager. It is important to emphasize that tipping should remain a voluntary gesture.
Favela in Astoria is an absolute gem. We ordered the caipirinhas in cashew and guava—both were refreshing, but surprisingly the cashew ended up being the favorite. For food, we went with the 4 steaks picanha and it was excellent—perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful. On top of that, the service was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and honestly a 10/10 experience. Definitely a spot I’d come back to and recommend.
Found this little spot while heading back to the city. I was curious to see what it had to offer since it touted itself as a Brazilian spot. I was pleasantly surprised by its elegant, and accommodating atmosphere.the server was amazing, the food was well prepared and tasty. My first drink was a bit off balanced. However they made up for it with the secret d round. All in all I loved this spot.
Brazil is my favorite country that I've ever visited, and I can count on one hand the number of restaurants that serve moqueca in NYC. So I was stoked to check out Favela Grill on a chilly night and chow down on some seafood in palm oil stew. Sadly, Favela missed the mark on this dish--and on most of their dishes. - Caldo Verde: This was our best item, and it came piping hot and delectably creamy. But Caldo Verde is Portuguese, not Brazilian...so it's odd that it was on this menu - Salgadinhos Sortidos - Trio of fritters. The Bolinho de bacalhau (codfish) was easily the best, while the Coxinha de Frango (chicken) was disappointingly dry and the Bolinho de aipim queijo (yucca with cheese) lacked seasoning - Bife à Palito: Big portion, yes, but completely bland. How do you screw up grilled sirloin at a Brazilian restaurant? I was drowning each piece in green sauce to give it flavor - Moqueca de peixe com pirão: Sigh. Where to start? First off, this dish was $34 with just fish, and they make you pay an extra $6 if you want shrimp. I've never had moqueca that didn't include both, so to have to pay extra was a disgrace. Second, the vegetables were severely lacking: moqueca should be loaded with onions, colorful peppers and herbs, but we got very few onions and no peppers of any kind. The overall portion was also rather small, which just made me long for my days in Rio even more A bad service note: We ordered two orders of Pão de Queijo (10 pieces x 2) to go when placing our dinner order. We confirmed the order twice with our initial server, then again with another server halfway through the meal--so three times in total. We needed these ready by the time we left as we were bringing them immediately to a party afterward and were already running late. By the time we had paid our bill, the buns still hadn't arrived. We escalated this to the manager, who insisted we never placed this order--leading to a tedious back-and-forth argument. The manager finally decided the order must've gotten lost between server rotations, and we ended up having to wait an additional 22 min after paying in order for the pastries to be ready. Not nice. To his credit, the manager did give us a complimentary mousse-type dessert to make up for the trouble, but we never got to try it. Think I'll stick to West Village's Berimbau for my moqueca fix. Or maybe I'll just bite the bullet and go back down to Bahia.
I made reservations for my son bday. First today just for the very small family (group of 4) because my other 2 kids they are in Europe now with their family… Then we was planing to come back with our and my kids big group. It will not happen. After we arrived we got the back table because we only have reservation for 4 people tonight. I asked them to change it we would like to be closer to the tv and for the “stage” but the person told us we can not seat there if we want we can pick a table on the other side in the restaurant but not where we wanted (other side was with the entrance door today was freezing outside)so we decided to stay where we been seated. I had to seat on my coat,my handbag was on the floor. But! Our server was nice. I ended up not to order food for myself but my son had the juicy steak with yucca my mom choose the breaded chicken breast with fries and my hubby took the chicken stew and the potato soup,me I had a mojito. Food was very good. Service was fast. The other turn off when my mom got her glass of water with someone lipsticks on. My family eat their food then we left and continued celebrating my son bday and get him the desserts at Jhoanes bakery where we been more welcomed. Otherwise I’m sure place is nice maybe they don’t like us Eastern European people.Last year we celebrated my son bday at the Fogo de chao for $75 you can get many steaks you wanted and they will treat every bday person with the same cheers. Least the other table get some ice cream for the person bday celebrations. We definitely not gonna come back. 20% gratitude already includes for the bill. Find a parking lot was a disaster also. Good luck maybe you will have better experience with them.
I was there a few days ago, the food was good but unfortunately I can't say the same about the staff. I received terrible service, I had the misfortune of being served by a very rude waitress. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
