Basil Thai Austin Reviews
Been going here for 5 years and the quality has never wavered just gotten better. The lady at the front is so kind and welcoming it feels like visiting family. Please do yourself and your family a service and dine here. The dry pot, Thai fried rice, and spicy Szechuan ramen are our favorites so would recommend all of those. Spacious and calming environment even when busy and you never feel like they aren't paying attention to you. You do have to scan a QR code and order with their online ordering platform which makes it easy to track what you've ordered and the price and it doesn't take away from the experience at all just makes it easier. Thank you to everyone that works here for making basil thai such a wonderful experience
I love this restaurant! I’ve tried their hot pots, noodle dishes, soups and their new fried chicken dishes. Everything I’ve ordered has been delicious! Everyone I bring there ends up going back on their own.
I'd never had the Thai Spicy Wings before...they were amazing. I especially loved all of the added vegetables. Their red curry is always great. This is my go-to Thai place!
Always delicious, especially on a lovely cold overcast day! I get the make-your-own noodle soup bowl with Thai red curry, udon, chicken, and various veggies, and it always hits the spot (I realize this is an odd combo but hey, they let you do what you want, so why not). One of the few places in town that will let you customize your hot pot/soups like this, and I appreciate that they come in single (but large) servings so you and your friends can get different flavors. IMO most of the trendy hot pot places in town are crazy overpriced and the broth is not that good, but Basil Thai has fantastic broth AND reasonable prices. I believe that the owner is usually the one waiting on tables as I always see her here. She is very conscientious and clearly cares if her customers are having a good experience. Only thing I will mention is that they do love to serve the soups at a nuclear temperature, so the first bite is going to numb your tongue if you're not paying attention! (kinda like this anyways, I hate getting served lukewarm soup)
I recently built my own hotpot with the tom yum soup base and beef, and it absolutely hit the spot. The tom yum broth was the star of the meal—fragrant, tangy, and perfectly balanced with that signature combination of sour, spicy, and savory flavors. It had a refreshing citrusy note from the lemongrass and lime, with just enough heat to keep things exciting without overwhelming the palate. The beef was tender and cooked nicely in the broth, soaking up all those vibrant flavors and adding a satisfying richness to the hotpot. One of the best parts of the experience was being able to customize everything to my liking. The ingredients were fresh, portions were generous, and the hotpot arrived piping hot, making it both comforting and fun to eat. It’s the kind of meal that feels cozy but still full of punchy flavor. The restaurant itself has a relaxed, casual atmosphere, and service was friendly and attentive.
I love their food quality and the big portion size. Definitely try their spicy dry hot pot. The amount of protein is insane. I love the taste of mala that numbs your tongue. It's a strong flavor so i recommend eating with a bowl of rice to mitigate the sodium level. Please keep up with this portion size and food quality. I also tried curry hot pot and fried chicken. Fried chicken is also good but i wish they had more pineapple. It wasn't really proportional to the amount of chicken. Curry hotpot was good too. However, since it's a soupy dish, i hope they gave me a deeper extra bowl to eat it. It wasn't a flat plate but it wasn't deep enough so i had hard time scooping from it.
One of the best hotpots I have had in a while! I got the tom yum hotpot while my partner got the dry hotpot. While the dry one was a bit on the spicier side (which was expected), tom yum one was mild. We loved both styles. The lady serving us was very sweet and answered all the questions we had! Highly recommend visiting this place.
First time coming here and decided to dine in. Service was wonderful and the food was excellent! Partner got the pork egg rolls and red curry, I ordered satay and the parang curry. Every dish was plated beautifully and the flavors were a delight. Portions are worth the cost, I won't need to cook tonight. My only complaint is that we didn't come here sooner. Highly recommend, will be back again
Excellent food! I spent 13 years in the Navy and visited Thailand several times, this is good Thai food...THE BEST I'VE HAD IN AUSTIN. I would have included pictures but I was too busy eating lol. I will add pictures next time. I highly encourage you to try this restaurant and I recommend either a hot pot of your liking or the Drunken Noodle. The attached photos show the same dishes ordered over several visits and show that the food is very consistent. The food is so good there may be a wait...WAIT! Not open on Tuesday.
We love this place! Hotpot dishes are what we normally order. Dine in at least 2+ time a month. I actually like the new app that you can place order on phone, they still have paper menu if needed. “Create your own hot pot” is the best option and each time they deliver the perfect flavor. Pork egg rolls and cashew chicken are delicious too. So far every dishes we ordered are exceptional.
The restaurant has a cozy and relaxing atmosphere, making it a comfortable place to dine. The QR code ordering system is convenient and easy to use. In my personal opinion, the food flavors were on the milder side. It may be suitable for those who prefer lighter tastes, but I personally would have enjoyed a slightly stronger and more flavorful seasoning. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
I am not sure how I would describe this restaurant other than it's ok. I went here because a YouTuber said it was good. The food was good for what my wife and I got. The price was steep for what I thought it was worth. It was $17.95 plus tax which is high for the amount. Like I said it was good but gosh the price, no thanks. The atmosphere was nothing special. In fact it was meh. It was dull and nothing special. Would I go back? No because of the price. I can get or go to the store for cheaper. Oh the hot pot thing was fine nothing exciting.
I picked up HP2 Lemon Grass Tom Yum Seafood and it tasted ok, but there were 3 or 4 clams that had not opened so we had to throw those out. The restaurant should have checked that they were boxing up the dish with open clams to make sure they were good. Got E2 Green Curry with chicken and it was pretty bland. Got E6 Ka-prow Hot Basil with chicken and I had asked for it to be spicy and it was not at all spicy, but it tasted ok. Also got R 1 Drunken Noodle with beef and this was good, but again no spice to speak of even though the menu indicates it would have some spice level. All in all ok, but nothing that would want me to go back after this first visit.
I was so excited to try out this restaurant Pineapple fried rice and the Beef Pad Thai . So disappointing the coloring on the food seasoning they used had so much coloring it was definitely not good. Taste was off and dry , they used 2 different batches of cashews which you can tell because it dark and reused in my order . Rather them throw it out the mixed with new fried nuts ughh not good . Over priced for the amount you get . Was greeted by a gentleman not to thrill to be needed at the counter . The dining room was nice my food was delivered quickly which made me wonder if was a reheated rather than an order made to order .
Food was average (my drunken noodle was too sweet), service was non existent. But the main reason that I won't go back is the ordering system (scan and order in an app) is unnecessarily complex. One just wants to come to a restaurant to eat, not to spend time to figure out how to order separately and worry if you would end up having to divide payment later. Even worse, it requires a phone number. No way I am giving my phone number to eat at a restaurant. Phone numbers are valuable data points for marketing and much more. Not coming back.
Food is GREAT! HOWEVER.... The last 2 times I visited I got a bad stomach ache from all the oil they put in the food. Excessive amounts of oil which isn't needed for cooking. Also the food portions have gone down. Giving small amounts of food for the same price is ridiculous. Sooo sad this used to be our favorite spot to eat. We also sent some friends there to eat and the portions were so small. Very disappointed has the food used to be amazing...It's really clean in there. And the workers are very friendly. If they worked on putting less oil in the food and giving better portion sizes.I think their business would grow
So this year I am writing reviews!! Food is way too expensive to not get what you paid for! I ordered for pick up, the sweet-and-sour fried chicken for $17 and it was absolutely disgusting. There was no batter on it whatsoever nor was there any sauce. It looked nothing like the picture in addition to that I bought an order of the dry noodles and boy was they dry and way too spicy when I asked for mild spice. I also bought the Thai rolls, they were fine. $50 paid! My husband and my son said it was terrible so it sat in the refrigerator. I am highly disappointed!!!
I ordered online from this restaurant. I was extremely disappointed in the green curry. The curry was very sweet, as if sugar had been added. It tasted like it came from a paste and not fresh ingredients. The worst part was the GREEN ARTIFICIAL FOOD COLORING in the curry that also dyed my chicken and vegetables dark green (see photos). Green curry should be naturally that color from the ingredients used. This restaurant clearly cuts corners. I’ll be looking elsewhere for a quality meal.
