Don Marios Austin Reviews
Great customer service and very friendly 👍 the atmosphere is great!! Love ❤️ the drinks 🍸 and food.
If you want some good authentic Mexican food this is your place!!!! David was great! From out of town and will definitely put this on our list to come back!
We ate an early dinner here tonight and are really happy we came back. The food was incredibly fresh made with good quality ingredients. My hubby’s chicken enchiladas were fantastic and my chicken tinga soft tacos were light and tasty. The salsa is also served warm and is quite good. If the chips and salsa aren’t up to snuff at a cantina, I won’t eat there…at Don Mario’s they’re delicious! Def check them out! And can I just say that their flan is some of the BEST I’ve ever had around the world (and I’ve lived in South America!) We got two to go because they’re absolutely divinely dense and sinfully decadent. Here’s a shout out to our waiter David! Thanks for the great chat and for making us feel so welcome. We’ll be back very soon.
We LOVE Don Mario’s! It’s our go-to in the Lakeway area. Margaritas are GOOD, fajitas are FABULOUS and the service is great. More importantly, the management is top tier. This evening my mom picked up food for us and a few items were missing. Next thing I know, I have a delivery at my door from Don Mario’s. I was SO impressed and grateful! Thank you for making this evening so easy. Merry early Christmas, to your family and staff!
Cannot thank Don Mario’s enough for their fantastic customer service. We are visiting my daughter and son-in-law for an early Christmas and picked up dinner for them tonight. After we got home we noticed a few items were missing. Without hesitation, Don Mario’s asked for our address and HAND DELIVERED the missing items. I seriously cannot thank them enough. The food was fantastic, the margaritas to go were fabulous and the thoughtfulness from the staff is award winning! Thank you!
I’ve been enjoying Don Mario’s since they were in the old location. Great place to grab some awesome food and a margarita while taking a break from hanging out at the lake. Service has always been friendly and the new outdoor patio and bar is much nicer than the old location.
Absolutely amazing date night spot! The al pastor was delicious, the server was attentive but not pushy. The music was a bit loud, but the outdoor seating had a great vibe. The queso and chips were so good and they replenished our chips for free as needed. The salsa is warm, which was a fun change to the usual appetizer. The rice was as spicy as I would have liked but the food was so hot and fresh, I barely noticed. We will definitely be back! Try the Alambre Hawaiano or any of the soft tacos if you don't know what to get
We are visiting Austin and wanted to have dinner close to our hotel. Our server Sasha was great. She explained everything and helped us to choose. The food was plenty and very delicious and fresh. My best Mexican food so far. Strawberry margarita was very delicious as well. The place was busy, but we did not wait for the food long.
We have been to Don Mario in RR 620 several times; both in their old location and now in the new and much bigger location. The new location is definitely much larger. It was clean and staff very friendly and helpful. The three of ordered different dishes; each turned out quite tasty and delicious. The chips and salsa were excellent. If you ask they will bring out more spicy ( and hot stuff) to go with the chips ! We were very pleased and definitely recommend probably the best Mexican restaurant in Lakeway/ Hudson Bend area.
We always set at bar and have great service. Chips (best chips around) and White cheese queso with pico are great. They make a great skinny Margarita! I have had their quesabirria and it was great. Tacos good too. We have been many times!!
I have already lost count how many times I have eaten at Don Mario’s. I have tried a variety of things on the menu and have never been disappointed. Enchiladas are always a big hit and fish tacos are a close second in my book. Add a margarita to the mix and you’ve got yourself a satisfying meal.
The chips and salsa were some of the best I’ve ever eaten! I ordered Costillas de Puerco. It was very flavorful and very filling. This was made using pork ribs on the bone cut into large bite sizes. Some of the pieces had larger bones and gristle in them, which I don’t recommend if you are squeamish.
The Mexican street tacos okay. My child got chicken nuggets and those were beyond dismal. The fundido was a gelatinous ball within 5 minutes. It was very busy, but we were sat right away. The service was really nice. There was a mariachi band there that night. We couldn’t hear anything - couldn’t even speak to one another. The band was louder than an atomic bomb.
To say the food was disappointing would be a crime. From the outside and the reviews we were moderately excited to try this place (my daughter and I) Quick easy and fast service to get a table, good size crowd and patrons. The ambiance and decoration were ok nothing special but it was open and free so we didn’t feel crowded or to close to others The chips and salsa which were brought out were the highlight of the meal, the chips were fresh and warm with a fresh crunch and good flavor. The salsa was the first warning sign, bland without much spice. We ordered a side of guacamole plain with lime (basically avocado mashed up with lime juice). The avocados were fresh, flavorful and made the chips amazing!!! We asked for the spiciest salsa and were brought three types of salsa each supposedly increasing with spice and flavor. (I am not a champion spice eater but do have a higher tolerance than 75% of the people I know. I tried all three and they all tasted pretty bland and not very different on the spice level. I would say the spiciest of the three was not even as hot as mild sauce at Taco Bell. So I asked again for the spiciest and they brought a new one to me not on the menu but even this one was lacking any spice (you could drink it without problem it was lacking so much spice. Either way we moved on I ordered 4 tacos Carnitas, Al pastor, lengua, and bistec. I would rate them 2/10 and the bistec was so bad it tasted like liver I couldn’t even eat it all. None of the tacos I would rate above a 3/10. Would not order again if I was to ever go back(which I’m not planning on returning) My daughter got 2 enchiladas with sour cream sauce and black beans. She gave it about a 4/10 wasn’t bad but she would not return to eat them again either. Finally we got the curri and helado. The churros were fresh and the ice cream was a natural vanilla. I would give the desert about a 5/10 lots of cinnamon, a chocolate and condensed cream sauce and a descent ice cream but nothing special. In the end If you like food with minimum seasoning and no spice this maybe for you, if you have eaten anywhere before with Tex mex or Mexican then I would not go here.
Friendly staff. The smell of pine Sol when I first entered was a bit of a turn off. I would rather smell the food. We were seated by a very courteous person. And the chips and salsa came right after. Chips were good and crispy. Salsa was okay but very mild. I asked for hotter salsa and they brought out 3 small ramekins of what they describe to be progressively hotter salsas. They were a little warmer but tasted fine. We ordered our drinks. I had tea. It was good. We ordered appetizers. I believe it was called a fiesta.. Three small dishes with refried beans, Queso and guacamole. Very bland but okay. I ordered the Puerco Guisado. Basically pork and red chili sauce. Food came out in a timely manner. My beans were cold. The pork looked good. It was very tender and had a good flavor. I had to ask for the tortillas that came with the meal. I would describe this place as white people's Mexican food. Meaning not spicy in the least bit.
I would honestly give Don Mario 3.5 ⭐ if it was possible. We received a coupon in the mail for BOGO enchiladas and/or a free small queso with purchase of two entrees so we decided to take the family and try it out. We went on a Thursday evening around 6:30, and the restaurant was quite busy. The waitress promptly took our drink order and served us complimentary chips and warm salsa that was more runny and tomatoey than chunky. Although the salsa was good, it wasn't exceptional. My stepson didn’t like it at all. We saw on the menu that they had additional salsas that seemed more appealing, so we asked if we could taste them. The waitress did indicate that those are only served when you order their Mexican Street Food, but was really nice and let us try them - way better than their complimentary salsa in our opinions. The chips were good and we did enjoy the plain queso. A little after we got there, the live music started playing. It was nice, but I would argue it was too loud. The music was performed inside, so we were literally yelling at each other over the table just to communicate. It made it a little less enjoyable since we went there to enjoy dinner as a family, but this is my fault for not realizing they have live music from 7-9pm Thursday-Saturday. It would have been tolerable if it wasn’t so loud, or maybe was performed outside. Our meals arrived in a reasonable amount of time and were visually appealing. However, we found the taste and flavor of the dishes to be pretty underwhelming. I ordered the Mexican Street Tacos, and athough they were decent, they needed the additional salsas to make them flavorful. My stepson ordered chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce, but found them unimpressive and said he wouldn't order them again. My husband ordered two tostadas with ground beef and felt the same way. They both commented that there was potato mixed with their meat, which was unexpected (but, the authentic part). Given the prices, we expected more from the food. We just didn’t feel it was worth it. The tostada plate was $14, the enchilada plate was $14, and the 6 mini tacos were $16 plus $1.99 for avocado added to the mini tacos. The queso would have been $6, but it was free with our coupon. The service was good overall, but we did experience a delay in receiving the check and paying the bill. We actually waited significantly longer to get our check and pay than we did at any other point during the process. Overall, the atmosphere was nice before the music started up, the restaurant was clean and the food presentation was good. However, we were disappointed with the taste of the food, which did not live up to our expectations.
I get food from here a lot, mostly mixed fajitas to go. However, this time I was told it would cost me an extra $5.00 for the chicken. I said I didn't ask for extra chicken, just the typical half and half. Still, an extra $5.00. So I just got the beef fajita. But this is not the real issue. The real issue was that the fajitas were way too salty. The only thing I tasted was the salt. And the bag of chips were way too salty. The chips were so salty, no one could eat them.
I placed delivery order through an app. Used buy one get on free coupon. Got chicken enchiladas with pico de gallo. The food was not good. There was no seasoning or flavor. It was s bland for a Mexican food. I will never eat or order from here again.
Had the chicken enchiladas ( tasted like seafood) with charro beans( were sweet as if added BBQ Sauce) and rice (tasted like seafood.) Not to my liking. Washed it all down with 2x Beer ( Great!) And some chips & salsa ( Great). Wife had beef chicken fajita skillet with charro beans and rice. The beef fajita was ok. The service how ever was Great! 10 stars. The place is super clean and atmosphere is amazing. At a cost of lil bit under $100.00
