El Chile Café y Cantina Austin Reviews
Chile con carne enchiladas were amazing! And do not pass up the queso con chorizo. To die for
My first time here and I was genuinely greeted with friendliness and kindness from every staff member I passed. Before I even sat down I was also greeted with chips and salsa! Edwin was doing it and with ease, from the bar to tables. The shrimp taco and cheese dip were delicious!! The atmosphere is light, bright and welcoming. Honestly this was next level service, they are doing something right here. Thank you!
Really great food. I had the Queso and the chicken fajitas. The fajitas came out sizzling and smelt so good. The vegetables were blackened to perfection and the the chicken had an amazing char grilled flavour. The Queso was super creamy and the tortillas were crunchy and full of flavour.
Love this place! The queso flameado was incredible and the drinks were delicious. Great atmosphere and service! Our waiter Alex, was so warm and attentive. We loved the entire experience, would highly recommend to friends and anyone visiting ✨
Great food, and beautiful restaurant. I came here at night and was greeted as soon as I came in and was helped immediately. I set at the bar and Carlos was amazing and my drink was very good. Will recommend el chile to others and be returning.
El Chile has been one of my go-to's for years now. The restaurant is clean with a relaxed atmosphere, tasty food, and an attentive waitstaff. Alex, in particular, is one of the best servers/bartenders in the biz. You can always count on him to be welcoming, accommodating, and deeply charming. A meal with Alex at El Chile is certainly worth the price of admission.
10/10, Place is clean and so are the restrooms. Our waiter a young lady she was super nice and attentive & gave great service. The chips and Salsa were great, we also enjoyed some guac for appetizers. We had some pozole and enchiladas everything was seasoned well and had great flavor . We also tried their mole enchiladas & have to be some of the best ive tried at a restaurant so far. We enjoyed it here & place is very appeasing on the inside, they also have a nice out door seating area. We will def be coming back here, did not disappoint 👌🏻.
Great staff and flavorful food with large portions. Parking was easy to find for a weekday lunchtime but may be difficult during peak hours. - Chips/salsa provided on the house. Dark salsa (charred) for the chips was so addicting that we also dipped all our dishes in it. Lighter salsa (habanero) was more spicy but also had a little sweetness - Empanadas with barbacoa had a deep fried taste (the oil tastes similar to donuts) but the fresh and pickled veggies, sauce, and barbacoa cheese filling were great - Redfish chiltepin was refreshing, flavor was okay - Charbroiled fajitas with half beef half chicken was served sizing on a cast iron plate. Both meats were juicy and cooked to perfection I was full from sharing the empanadas and had to take leftovers for the fajitas platter but the taste is still great next day. Ample seating outdoors/indoors/bar, close to UT. I would definitely come back for their 3 pm happy hour!
El Chile is the absolute best restaurant. It’s well located, has parking, great patio, the bar is awesome. They have $5 margaritas every Monday. Great service. When I’m on a hurry and order to go, food is always perfect. My favorite brunch menu item has to be chilaquiles, absolutely fantastic!!
Nice place close to my hotel, and great atmosphere with nice music! Ceviche was fresh and beers were cold. Will be stopping by again as Christan made sure the beets kept coming. Also had a Redfish taco the following day as well! Went twice as it was just priced right and food was that good.
First time eating at El Chile today. It's just down the street from my apartment, so I thought I'd give it a shot. The chips and salsa were out of this world! Chips are served hot, and they're not like every other Mexican restaurant's chips. They're really different, and so delicious, and they have two kinds of salsas. One is carrot/habanero, and the other is a smoked tomato/garlic. Both are absolutely AWESOME! Plenty of vegetarian options as well! I had the veggie quesadillas. They were absolutely exquisite! Nice portion, too! My server was super nice and took great care of me! The menu is also reasonably priced! Great lunch! I'll definitely be going back! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!
Delicious entrées, friendly attentive service, great time had by all! Had flautas, fajitas, & Enchiladas. Highly recommend, when visiting Austin. Food came out quick and hot. Had mangonada margarita, top shelf frozen margarita, & spicy Sandia margarita. All were perfect! Note: drinks were delivered full, but we drank some before the photos were taken. ;)
I really like this place. Complementary chips and sauce were very tasty. I had a pollo poblano specialty and nopalito salad They were both good. Chicken was very soft and feel the char grilled on it. The salad was so good. It tastes like a better version of green beans. Staff was very friendly.
Made a big deal about happy hour then charged me full price. Took awhile to fix the check. Mistakes are made but they weren't very apologetic and didn't offer anything in return. Atmosphere somewhat awkward with home videos on constant replay on a large screen. Quality free chips and salsa. Shrimp Tacos pretty good. Salmon okay. Yes salmon. Not the best fish for a fish taco maybe.
This is a great neighborhood place. Good vibe, not loud, with a welcoming outdoor patio. Their food is good, well executed, just not stellar. The chilaquiles i ordered were just OK, as the plate was not a whole, just a juxtaposition of separate items, namely some beans, some eggs and the chips on the side smothered in a tomatillo salsa and some Oaxaca type cheese. I was a tad disappointed but overall satisfied. Service was EXCELLENT.
We came here for dinner but only ended up ordering a couple of things. While the service was good the food was sub par and served with way too many chips. After chips and salsa we ordered the salmon ceviche. The ceviche came with more chips and was not good quality. We had some mango margaritas as well which were actually quite good however after the ceviche we decided to move on. I would give this place another chance or come here strictly for drinks.
We were sitting at the bar around 7:30 pm when a couple next to us began behaving very inappropriately. The woman repeatedly stretched her legs across her partner and kept kicking my back. We politely asked them to be mindful, but the situation was not handled respectfully. Unfortunately, the bartenders sided with them instead of addressing the behavior or asking for basic courtesy toward other guests. A venue should ensure a comfortable and respectful atmosphere for everyone. Because this was not addressed and we were left in an uncomfortable situation, I cannot recommend this place. One star.
If you like edible food, you will want to avoid this place at all costs. If you want Mexican food, this is *not* the place. I'm literally shocked and a little insulted by how bad the experience was. How does a Mexican food restaurant get pozole and tortilla soup so utterly wrong? How does it take a delicacy like barbacoa and turn it into something completely tasteless? I paid the $65 dollars for the meals for myself and two equally disappointed guests and just wish we could get the last hour of our lives back. I hope my stomach and taste buds can forgive me.
I ordered the breakfast enchiladas from the brunch menu with avocado and no protein. The food came out lukewarm — the tortillas were gummy, and the poblano cream sauce and charro beans didn’t have much flavor. The crispy potatoes were okay but also just warm at best. The only thing I finished were the fried eggs. If you like cream or non-dairy milk in your coffee, you’re out of luck — they only have cow’s milk. I hadn’t been here in a while since they don’t allow dogs on the patio (which is pretty unusual for Austin). After this visit, I wasn’t impressed and probably won’t be back.
