El Mercado Austin Reviews
I love this place! I have been coming here for like at least 5 years! The service is always amazing and fast! The best Mexican martini!! Our server Hector was great and efficient with great service and the food never misses — fresh, flavorful, and consistently great every visit, classic Austin Tex-Mex. In my opinion, this place is an Austin tradition. Highly recommend!
I've been coming here for year's but it's been a minute since I've visited, saw a post on FB that reminded me that I needed to pay a visit but I've got to say that the food and serves has only got better since my last visit. keep up the great work EL Mercado North! customer for life!!!
Bright, friendly Mexican restaurant. It has a great happy hour menu of small meals and drink discounts, which lasts from 3 to close on Mondays. They have several bar seats, a long dining room of tables, and several tables on a covered front patio. There is a large free parking lot in front of the building.
Ask for Nancy!! She is wonderful!! Knowledgeable about the menu. She gives great recommendations and is honest about what is best!! She is also super friendly and very efficient!! The margaritas were strong, flavorful, and hit the spot. The fajitas were so good!! My kids loved the steak tacos and the quesadillas!! We don’t have a single complaint!!
An Austin staple for us! My wife and I have been coming to El Mercado since we moved to Austin, and it’s become one of our go-to spots. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the food never misses — fresh, flavorful, and consistently great every visit. There’s just something about the vibe here that feels like classic Austin Tex-Mex. In my opinion, this place is an Austin tradition. Highly recommend!
We went to El Mercado on a Saturday night around 8pm. It was busy but we were seated quickly. Ben was our server and he was amazing. Attentive and friendly. We started off with the house chips and salsa and I could have had those for my meal. They were SO good. I had to stop myself so I’d have room for my entree. I had the chicken flautas with rice and black beans. Everything was seasoned well and delicious. My husband had the chicken burrito with refried beans and rice. The portions were large and very satisfying. We had to get boxes to go because there was so much food. El Mercado is well worth the visit! We’ll definitely be back.
My ex-wife and I stopped after church and it was the best breakfast that her and I have had in a long time. We both truly enjoyed it. It was wonderful food. The people were glad we were there and we sat in their little veranda outside because it was cool outside. It was wonderful. We had a wonderful time and we will go back there often. I highly recommend it to anyone in the Austin area to visit this place. They have wonderful food and they're glad that you come. Thank you, Joseph Hall
Service is quick, efficient, and friendly. I got the Tootsie Plate (tortilla soup and crispy chicken taco) with an added brisket enchilada. All the brisket dishes are delicious. I deal with electrolyte issues and the salty rich broth of to their tortilla soup calms my symptoms. El Mercado’s tortilla soup is my favorite in the city.
Great music, staff, quality product! The garlic sour cream sauce has never let me down, perfecto! I have always liked the fact that they use the best cheese!- The staff gives an attitude of ease. They help each other in making sure their guests receive the best of expectations. My thanks to Gamma,Alex,Yvonne,Karen, Erica, Claudia ,Monica Nancy for they’re welcoming me and making me feel at home every time!
This is an Austin TexMex classic. Think of it as the restaurant equivalent of a dive bar. This is where you come when you don’t want to or need to care how you look but you want a big plate of sizzling fajitas and maybe a margarita. This no frills spot will always hit the spot. Come hungry and leave with a belly full of yummy electric yellow queso.
What a wonderful restaurant! I’ve dined here on countless occasions and it’s been a great experience each time. Some of my personal favorites are the Hot Latin Kisses (shrimp with cheese-stuffed jalapeños wrapped in bacon) and the beef fajitas. For drinks, try the Mexican Martini - it’s a cross between a traditional Martini and a Margarita. The atmosphere is very laid back and the owner and all the staff members are very kind and generous. Highly recommended.
We love this El Mercado!!! It is in our neighborhood but it is my family's favorite restaurant. Service is great! We tend to sit on the patio. I forgot to take pictures but the kids portions are large. Poncho nachos are a favorite, as well as the enchiladas. Gamaliel, Yvonne, and today we had Alex - all are excellent waitstaff! We love the Phillip's Queso and Sopapilla's...but the best is the complimentary chips and salsa! Please don't make this place too popular. El Mercado Burnet Road is a fantastic choice for delicious Tex-Mex.
Old school Tex Mex vibes! Great casual food and great drinks! Good lunch prices and many options to choose from. I’ve been coming here since early 90s and want to see this place keep going! Go support them!
Fun, 90’s throw back, Tex-mex joint. A staple of my wife’s family for decades. Really good brisket tacos. STRONG, yet delicious margaritas. Don’t plan to drive if you order a large one!
Visited this place for National Margarita day.. started off with brunch and a couple of margs.. food was good and so were drinks.. we had planned to visit other places so it was a quick stay, but nonetheless made an impression on us.. service was quick and great and food was delicious.. Will definitely be back!
Decent food, but their kids food is really not done with any care. We've ordered serval kids plates and each time our daughter doesn't eat them and they are kinda terrible so I don't blame her. Dry quesedilla, old fries. Chicken tenders with too much breading etc. We will probably avoid in the future as each time our kid goes hungry.
Like others have said. Food was bland. Decor looked like they went to Mexico one time and decided to throw it up in the place. Service was good at the very least. However, averaging $20 a meal for bland and dry food??? Absolutely never again. There’s no love. The place feels devoid of what makes Mexican food amazing.
