Poke-E-Joes Austin Reviews
Excellent experience overall! Great food and experience at the restaurant. Well received with a smile by Stephany and Cathy!
It's not fussy, really nothing super special in terms of Tx bbq, but what I like about this place is that it's affordable, consistent, and not packed with people at all hours or closing at like 2 p.m. Representative of Texas bbq if you have never had it, and really accessible.
We used Poke Joe’s Catering for our engagement party this past Saturday (September 27th), and I cannot say enough AMAZING things about the entire experience! From the very beginning, working with John Bohne was such a breeze. He responded quickly to every email, walked me through what our event would look like, and was endlessly patient as I changed my mind a few times along the way (thank you, John!). Once we finalized everything, the day of the event couldn’t have gone smoother. The catering team arrived right on time, and I showed them to our backyard where we’d set up a tent to keep them shaded from the late afternoon sun. They got everything ready so efficiently and with such professionalism. The full-service fajita bar was a huge hit! The meat and chicken were unbelievably tender, the sides were fresh and flavorful, the queso was so tasty, and every single detail was perfect. Our guests could not stop raving about it the entire night. We’re still getting texts and calls from friends and family saying how amazing the food was and how it completely elevated the whole party. We highly recommend Poke Joe’s for any event; they helped make our celebration stress-free and so memorable. We’ll absolutely keep them in mind for future gatherings!
Truly a hidden gem! It’s my birthday and they gave me a complimentary peach cobbler! The staff is so friendly and the food is wonderful! Great bbq sauce ♥️
Glad to find a great neighborhood BBQ joint actually close to us, with no fuss service and parking. We had meat plates (brisket on one, turkey on the other) with w sides each (potato casserole, jalapeño cornbread, corn, and green been casserole). All were excellent, and we are taking home plenty of meat for a sandwich each tonight. When we are in Austin for Thanksgiving, if they're open, I'd vote to come here and make a nice turkey dinner. Highly recommended.
Most BBQ spots are unreasonably priced for lunch, but this gem was fair, gave large side and meat portions for the sandwich combo and has very kind service staff. My husband and I were able to get an extra side bc we traded my drink in the combo for another side and then shared the large tea that came with his. Only odd thing is that there are many abandoned businesses in the same complex
Best BBQ in Austin. I’ve been to Terry Black’s and I prefer Pokey Jo’s every time. The brisket is emmacilaty moist. The turkey is juicy and full of flavor. The jalepeno cheddar sausage is also worth getting. Their sauce is served hot and is really good even for someone who doesn’t like BBQ sauce. Ive worked in the BBQ industry for 3yrs and this place is my favorite.
Food was good, but not exceptional. However, it’s the people here that make this place so good. From the moment I stepped in, all the staff was super friendly and doing way beyond a typical BBQ spot. They offered me a sample of all cuts and free drinks! They are so nice! If the BBQ was better, this would have been one of my favourite spots.
Hadn't been to Pok e Jo's in a minute! I was pleasantly surprised... Ordered the two meat plate with brisket and pork ribs. Three pork ribs and while he was slicing I asked for burnt ends for the brisket. The ribs were tender and flavorful and the brisket was perfectly charred on the outside and moist & tender inside. I thought I was in BBQ heaven. For sides I chose the delicious Jalapeno Cornbread casserole (for the first time) and the Broccoli Cheese (very cheesy and not overcooked). The serving was so large I actually had to bring some home. 😋 More for a snack later
Pok-E-Jo's has been, and still is, my go-to spot for BBQ when I'm at the office. It's definitely great to be back to the restaurant after all these months of working from home. For this visit, I ordered 2-meat combo with brisket and pork ribs. The brisket is absolutely delicious (Soft and tender) and their pork ribs are also fabulous with meats falling off the bone easily. In addition, the spicy BBQ sauce that offers also go nicely with the meats. Oh, and for the two sides, I went for potato salad and broccoli; very delicious and also go well with the brisket and ribs. Overall, a great place for BBQ.
I'm from Idaho, so whenever I am in Austin I try to eat BBQ. This was my first time to eat here. I told that to the guy at the counter and he gave my friend and I a great sample plate of 5 or 6 different meats. We both chose the 2-meat plate. Comes with 2 sides. My friend got corn and baked beans. I chose corn and a drink, both with ribs and brisket. All excellent! Except, my friend said the beans were "meh". I'll definitely go back the next time I am in Austin!
Arrived at Pok-E-Jos for lunch at 12.10 on a Tues. ordered immediately - 2 meat plate (13 bucks) and sweet tea (2.50) - Demetrio measured out 1.28 lbs of moist brisket and pork ribs. For vegetables, i chose potato salad and beans - although there were several more to choose from, including some healthy looking stuff. The sweet tea was ok - not too sweet. I added a little salt to the flavorful beans - which had a nice spicy taste. The potato salad was excellent - yellow potato salad with added large sections of red potatos with skin and red onion chunks. The brisket was exceptional - very tender and thick - the ribs were awesome (my compadre declared they were the best he had ever eaten) - they were spicy and did not need sauce - i thoroughly enjoyed the bbq sauce - sweet, tangy, spicy - i also had a couple of pieces of wheat bread to go with it, although white grilled toast was also available. I rated this 5 stars because of the peerless flavor and taste. Honestly, i would prefer a little larger portion :-). But for taste - absolutely 5 stars
Decent BBQ. I had the 2 meat plate with brisket, beef sausage, broccoli salad, and pinto beans. The brisket was tender and a good cut which had the charred bark with good smoky flavor. The sausage was tender and tasty. The beans a bit bland but had great amounts of pork. Broccoli salad was delicious. Fast friendly service makes it welcoming. Even though service was good, I wouldn’t go outta my way to go back, but I would return if I was in the mood and in the area.
