Texas Coffee Traders Cafe Austin Reviews
What an awesome coffee spot. Wholesale vibe so not fancy, but always delicious with great customer service and value. No trip to Austin is complete for me without starting the day with a delicious oat cappuccino there.
Went in today with a problem from a product I had received through their location. Spoke with the manager, (wish I had his name), but without question, he took care of resolving the issue! A true “Customer Focused” way of doing business. Well done.. and thank you ever so sincerely for your help. I’d also like to note that the problem I had with the product in question was no let the fault of theirs. But they stepped up and replaced the part I needed!! I appreciate that level of customer service. I live in Dallas but will order all my future tea’s through their location. I support local, I support small business, I support “Made in the USA!” And I appreciate hard working entrepreneurs! New lifetime customer!! Good job guys!!
Just came here for the first time today, not expecting much, and I was a bit blown away. They have tons of coffee variety and quality, but it wasn't just that! First off, the staff is super helpful AND knowledgeable AND patient. They aren't aggressively trying to sell anything, they are just super into their craft and love sharing their knowledge. Secondly, they have a great selection, not just of coffee beans, but also of equipment. Everything from french press to aeropress to espresso makers. Third, they have free tasting samples for hot coffee, cold brew coffee, tea, and lemonade. The nicest thing about this is that they have different brew styles of the same bean, so you can really compare and see the difference. Finally, they have an awesome outdoor chill area and coffee shop with chairs and tables! This was great since today happened to be a beautiful day. Dog-friendly too!
Incredible coffee, better staff. My wife and I live a few blocks away and visit at least once a week to replenish our coffee supply and get a couple coffees. They have a small tasting area so you can sample the brew before you buy. They also have a wall of their roasted beans which all smell heavenly. Hands down best coffee in all of Austin for WAY cheaper than those hipster places all over. These folks rock.
I’ve been exploring coffee shops on the east side, but I continually go to this one. It’s delicious! The service is kind. The prices are fair. I like the outside atmosphere as well.
Their coffees are delicious, but today's visit was a service one. Jeanne and Dan were awesome to work with. They got my Bunn coffee machine back in working order in a timely manner. Thank you!
My buddy introduced me to this fine establishment on my latest visit to Austin. He's become something of a regular here and the staff was SUPER friendly, knowledgeable, and make a durn good Cold Brew, haha. And as far as welcoming, they greeted us (and in particular, him) like Norm walking into CHEERS! AMAZING array of coffees, beans, and the tools to press and brew them. Stop in and check it out if you're into coffee.
RC and his team are amazing kind, helpful and friendly folks, I am from San Antonio and had a espresso in need of service. They were very informational on what was going on with my machine and to get it working again. I want to thank RC for your kindness and service! Great experience and great people you have on your team! I will definitely stop by again when we are in the Austin area for their delicious coffee as well!
I stumbled upon this East Austin cult favorite a few years ago, when I was looking for a cheap daily cup of coffee, which they have the highest quality that I have found anywhere to date. They are a retailer, and warehouse selling beans from all over the world literally. They also have a great selection of loose leaf teas (rarities such as Roobois) and Yerba Mate. The selection is seriously amazing and the staff is helpful to talk thru what type to try. They are going to move by the summer time (luckily closer to me), which is good considering all the construction in their current neighborhood. Because of their good and friendly staff and great selection, they will make a regular out of any coffee drinker.
I love this place! My favorite coffee house and coffee roasters in Austin! You have to check them out! The staff here are very passionate about coffee, very knowledgeable, always willing to answer any questions you have. Many, many different coffee bean options and tea options.
How the heck have I not reviewed this place yet? I've been buying my coffee exclusively from Texas Coffee Traders for a couple years now. Nobody else can match the variety and quality of their beans, not to mention the knowledgeable and friendly staff. Plus you can have coffee, tea and gear shipped right to your house! Love love love this company and I'm glad to support them.
Today I went to take an order for that store and a girl very kindly offered me a good coffee. Let me tell you that it was the best coffee I have had in Austin. I hope to visit you soon. Excellent place.
This is a great hidden gem in Austin. No frills serious coffee shop. The staff is super knowledgeable about coffee and always willing to help. If you are interested in learning about coffee, stepping up your home brewing, or just want a good cup, this is your place. No wifi, limited seating, closes at 3 but all worth it if you enjoy quality coffee.
Awesome hidden gem on the east side! They have a ton of coffee making supplies and bulk coffee at reasonable prices. Great spot for any holiday shopping or for any cofffee enthusiast. They also have self-serve and a regular cafe! There is inside and outdoor seating for you to enjoy your coffee if you want to hangout for awhile!
Excellent variety and service! The staff made an excellent recommendation (Timor variety) based on the qualities I was looking for in a coffee. The store is in a seedy-looking part of town, but don't let it deter you from going. I'm from Canada and will definitely be ordering more through the mail if I'm not in Austin to pick some up.
Would have rated more stars if more stars were available. Evan gave a nice thorough walk-through of the shop, explaining the layout and order of the huge variety of coffees offered, also pointed out the samples they rotate through weekly. They also a nice variety of teas. Evan was a pleasure to work with. I left with a pound of great coffee, and some tea for my wife....will need to frequent more often. Great service and variety of products!
This is the best place I've ever been to buy coffee. When I walked in, someone immediately offered me samples and gave me an informative tour of the shop, complete with recommendations based on my input. They have a great variety if beans for sale from South American to African to Indonesian, and have a house band that comes from a farm run by the shop owner. They also have flavored coffee and top shelf limited beans available. Prices range from about $13-20/lb. They also stock whatever you need to get started making great coffee like French presses, scales, pour over drip systems, etc. Outstanding staff, great variety & reasonable prices
The staff was phenomenal and friendly. The service was quick and the coffee was the best I’ve ever had. There was also a great selection of self serve coffee to try coffee from all over the world. The staff went out of their way to give us a taste tour of the various coffees they offered.
We love this place. We found them while bike riding in downtown Austin several years ago. The friendly service, awesome coffee and teas, and amazing selection are the reason we have them ship to us for our B&B in Dahlonega, GA. So many of our guests have asked for their info and have also become customers of Texas Coffee Traders too! We even purchased a refurbished 1950-1960's store model coffee grinder from them to use to grind our beans. They ship expediently but if you are in Austin area and want to visit, make sure you do!!!
Fabulous local coffee shop, with daily brews from around the world! Very friendly place with fresh brews, fresh grinds, a large assortment of beans and teas, and everything you need for brewing. They have a daily sampler selection of at least four brews representing each coffee region on the globe that you can sample. The coffee is only $2! This is a must see stop in Austin!
This place is great! We buy our coffee here for our Bakery at The Sherwood Forest Faire, also I buy it for my coffee at home. The know their business and are always ready to talk about coffee and get you exactly what you need for your business or for home brewing. You can also buy cups of coffee and sample coffee brewed in different ways.
This place is awesome! They offer many different types and roasts of coffee (which they roast themselves onsite-- because of this the place smells delicious) and tea, along with coffee and tea accessories. If you do not own a coffee grinder they will grind your purchased beans for which ever method of brewing you will be using. All of the staff is very knowledgeable. The owner, R.C., is very friendly and will take time to talk with you and answer any coffee questions you may have. Every so often he offers a free coffee tasting/cupping class. If you have the chance to do so and love coffee, sign up for this class! You will learn so much about coffee and have a ton of fun doing so.
I recommend this place to anyone who's really into coffee. They love to talk coffee. You can smell and sample dozens of freshly roasted varieties of coffee. I like a good classic roast so my fave, right now, is the Peru Medium roast.
Simply put, hands down the best coffee establishment in Austin, maybe anywhere. Friendly and knowledgeable staff is an understatement. Fair prices, unmatched customer service. I don’t buy coffee anywhere else.
I have found my new go-to coffee. Im officially hooked!
Was a good frappe, services was very polite and even gave me the extra in a separate cup 👍
Hidden gem of a coffee retail shop selling fresh roasted beans and coffees to go. We bought one bag of flavored beans while visiting Austin recently. They offer a large selection of flavored beans, marketed as naturally flavored, which is great since other flavored beans are often artificially flavored. If we were local, we'd stop in more often.
My favorite coffee company since I found them at Vitamin Cottage/Natural Grocers many many years ago. This is a place for real coffee lovers like me-all about roast and beans, no auger nor creamer. I couldn’t wait to move to TX from CO to enjoy their coffee without waiting for my friends from Austin to deliver me some! I do enjoy their knowledge about their products and sample coffee, so I always buy extra, something new in addition to my long time favorites. Great owner, coffee and employees! Baked goods are pretty good too!
First of all the baristas are the best and second of all, you do not feel like you just spent your rent money on a latte. They have really fair and great prices that make it possible to go there very regularly.
Hands down, the most knowledgeable friendliest staff in all of Austin. Fresh roasted coffee beans - roasted fresh daily! Excellent inventory of supplies and anything you could want pertaining to coffee. Why heck- you can even buy an espresso machine there! Best In Texas. Five star service. Would definitely recommend.
5 Stars for flavor and value! I make it a point to visit different coffee shops when downtown and so far, this one has the best flavor. It’s a window with a few places to sit outdoors. I forgot to ask whether or not their mocha is sweet before ordering but was pleasantly surprised with the balance (not sure if maybe they use ganache but it tastes like real chocolate vs sugary syrup). It had just enough ice cubes and there was no skimping on the actual product—worth the cost and a fair price at that! I haven’t tried other drinks here yet but am happy to report that no modifications were necessary with the mocha—they just get it. Looking forward to stopping by again soon!
What a find! We bought all kinds of loose leaf tea- absolutely loved being able to buy in smaller quantities to try multiple flavors. We also loved their espresso and syrup flavor variety- delicious Americanos at a steal of a price=love!
Great tasting coffee and friendly staff.
Is this the best coffee shop in austin? Yes. Seriously it’s the best coffee shop. Price is reasonable. Staff is super friendly. In fact every customer in line is friendly. They just attract those type of people. Great selection of beans, drinks, pastry from sour duck. Side note: My dog loves coming here too. They don’t skimp out on milk bones either, they serve them knotted bones not the biscuits. Grade: A+
Love the price of freshly roasted beans and the quality is outstanding. The staff I've interacted with knew off the top of their head which dark roast they had and how fresh they were (2 vs 4 days for example). I got the 4 day old roast as I was going to use right away for my espresso and 2 day was going to be too fresh. Glad I found out about this place
Visited from Chicago and this was the best coffee shop we stopped in to in Austin. Their espresso and mocha frappes had so much flavor and strength we came back a 2nd time before heading home! Also took home some fresh beans and made a cup of french pressed coffee and wow, it was a good brew. Will definitely stop by again when in town, everyone was super nice as well.
So friendly and delicious espresso! Got a quad shot espresso, and appreciate the small parking lot which makes it convenient to stop in. They also have various accessories for espresso coffee makers in addition to all types of beans. I picked up a nice flat bottom whisk that I’ve been looking around for a while.
Coffee roaster with many options for beans. The cafe has good offerings for drinks. Discounted drinks when you buy beans. Cozy atmosphere.
Update: I love Texas Coffee Traders even more. I always place my orders for pick up and love to get 1/4 lbs to try new coffees. I temporarily moved out of Austin and their online portal is great and easy to order from, but doesn't offer smaller weights than 1 lb. I was able to place my order over the phone with the request for 1/4 lb coffee beans and get it delivered. I'm very with happy with how accommodating they are. Previous: I love this place. The smell alone is worth a trip. They can make you fresh coffee drinks, you can buy coffee supplies and coffee in bulk here. You can do whole bean or they can grind it for you. The people working here are all amazing as well. The parking lot is small and it can be hard to find parking if it's full. They also have a stand at the SFC farmers market at burger stadium and you can make a special order so they have it there for you BUT the stand only takes cash. My favorite beans are Krakatoa and the Decaf Wind River.
Great experience with great people with good attitudes, at a much needed time. My dog enjoys it as well.
We’ve been ordering beans and tea for a couple years but I’ve never visited the coffee shop (I live an hour away). I’m glad I did. The staff was very friendly and ready to help and answer questions, they seemed to really know their coffee. The beans recommended to me were some great recommendations. I got a drip of their specialty top shelf coffee and it was fantastic. Highly recommend their coffees.
I absolutely love it. First time and we will back for sure. Coffee is splendid and the atmosphere right on point I felt like home. Awesome staff!
OMG I love this place. We wanted to drink coffee and saw good review about this place. Am so greatfull that we decided this place. The staff Soo friendly and so knowledgeable. They helped us with coffee tasting from the tasting station and also explained the difference . They let us also bring in our presective of the coffee we tasted. We also got a hot coffee , a cold brew and a packet of their freshly ground coffee(Dark ). The cost was Soo reasonable .Must visit.
WOW this coffee was surprisingly so delicious. I got an iced Pistachio and cookie butter latte. Sounds weird but me and the barista collaborated and thought it lowkey might taste good so we gave it a go and yeah…gotta try it!
Love Texas Coffee Traders coffee and loose tea! The staff is wonderful and friendly. Treat yourself and see what I am taking about. ☕️
Great place hosting an Animal crossing event. It was fun and several people were there
The coffee here is the best you don't know what an espresso shot is until you have a freshly roasted bean espresso shot it's thickness and flavor are unmatched! Service was good the employees are very kind and helpful 👍 and looks like a nice place to study if you are a student
I have a great deal of nostalgia related to this coffee company. Coffee Traders had a coffee shop in the RLM building at the University of Texas. When I started attending UT in 2018, I had a habit of grabbing a cup of coffee before attending class (almost on a daily basis). In all honesty, to this very day, I do not recall having a cup of coffee more flavorful than the ones served at the RLM coffee shop. After the pandemic came, my classes became fully virtual and I came back to Houston. Upon my return to University for the fall 2021 semester, I went to RLM and saw the coffee shop had closed. I had been saving my punch card for a free cup of coffee for nearly 2 years which I could not redeem. After graduating in 2022, I became aware that coffee traders were still in business. Last week I placed my order and it got delivered today. Taking a sip out of my cup really brought back some very pleasant memories. Will definitely be reordering coffee from here again.
Piling on with the positive reviews. I use to get my “good coffee” from organic grocers and coffee shops but I can’t ever be too sure of the freshness date. Came to Texas Coffee Traders and I don’t think I’m going back! Nice to have a knowledgeable person behind the counter to share advice and recommendations. They’ve also told me when they’re getting certain beans! For each bag of coffee, I also get a free cup … icing on the cake!
They have the best curated lattes that change based on the season and holiday!
Texas Coffee Traders is a retailer for amazing fresh roasted coffee. They showcase 100 varaties of roasts, beans and flavors custom ground to your needs at the time of order. While they supply coffee to the local restaurants and markets, and generously give back to the community, that is only part of the story. The warm down to earth friendly staff know about the coffees and educate, share and patiently answer your questions as you can sample the difference between different coffee brewing methods (Sock, French Press, drip.) Swing by and get a fantastic coffee drink that bests any barista or coffee chain out there, and pick up some fresh coffee for home. Supplying the coffee for the home coffee fan to supplying large gatherings such as KUT's Christmas Sing Along at the capital, and all businesses in between, don't miss out on visiting this gem of Austin.
I rated the coffee under food...I really enjoy the many different blends, and the single origins. Although, they did change from 1 pound bags to 12 ounce bags and 2 pound bags. That's not my favorite marketing strategy but I'll have to accept it if I continue to purchase their roasts.
Great coffee place and roastery. People who work there are really friendly, one took time to explain the coffees, show me the tester area, and then discuss a few options that would work well with V60's. Said tours were available if booked or if I came in at a less busy time. They made a great Flat White and I bought really tasty coffee.
Beautiful ambiance furniture and decor. I got the caramel special frappe and it was delish. Got it again but as iced and it didn't taste like it did. The Mexican chocolate latte wasn't great either. The cold brew growler was a hit. Enjoyed looking through the books.
Marty was extremely knowledgeable and helpful when assisting me in figuring out which kind of beans I should purchase. :)
Highly recommend this place. They have tons of choices for coffee beans and provide a great price on drinks also. It’s my number one ☝️ coffee place now 👏👏👏 How you bean Man!
Super impressed with this place. Was planning on checking out another coffee shop nearby, but it had a huge line and stumbled on this place instead, which I’m glad I did. Local roaster doing their own thing, super cool aesthetic and decor, plenty of parking and a great seating area to chill. Highly recommend.
Best beans at the best price in town. Great selection as well. Staff are knowledgeable if you have roast or taste questions.
This is the best cup of coffee I have had in the US. You can tell that they roast in house, and the service is always fantastic. Love the vibe of the cafe, and have bought over 10 lbs of beans here. Please don’t change.
Bright, welcoming new location of Texas coffee traders. They have several tables in and outside with an extensive menu of coffee and tea drinks. They also seek bags of coffee and tea along with snacks from wheatsville coop. They are located just on the East side of the seventh street bridge and have a large free parking lot supplemented by free street parking on surrounding blocks.
I found a bag of this SENSATIONAL coffee at the Blanton Museum of Art. It lasted one week. I called Texas Coffee Traders in Austin and staff made my special Blanton Blend and I received it in less than three days (not counting America's Independence). I enjoy this coffee so much. I cannot wait to return to Austin to drink and eat at Texas Coffee Traders. I will purchase more coffee for the ones I love. THANKYOU TEXAS COFFEE TRADERS! You make my Texas heart grateful.
Everything a great coffee spot should be -- nothing more, nothing less. Fantastic coffee, roasted here, and sold and served with no attitude by a delightful staff. While it's not upscale (because they are so focused on roasting) they serve fresh coffee and pastries and have a chill seating area outside. My favorite so far is the simple and tasty pour over with the dark Peruvian. But they can do just about everything, including cappuccinos, flavored syrups, and a regular 12-ounce drip for $2.50 a cup. So it's all "bean" good, man!
Was so happy to find this place. Wow! The selection for roasting and beans is gigantic! The coffee is AMAZING! I am bringing home the lone star Texas blend. They make their cold brew with it and it was 10/10. Will be coming back if we ever head back to Tx. Veteran owned. Window and inside ordering. Super friendly staff and free stickers!!!
So good! They have so many options for coffee and a special fall menu you can order off. I got the cold brew fall special. The staff is super nice. Love the patio, it’s so green and had such pretty plants and cute eclectic furniture They suggest a mask to enter the actual shop but one of our party didn’t have a mask so we couldn’t go in but I really want to go and see the teas and coffees in there! Also the whole area smells of lovely coffee, and they even have some bakery options you can order
From a block away I could smell the coffee roasting which was a great start. The dark roast drip coffee was really good. They had 4 other drip offerings and at $2 for a 16oz, it's a steal these days. They had a huge selection of coffee beans to go (probably about 30 different kinds and roasts). Overall a really great coffee roaster for whatever gets you going.
Excellent service, very detailed. In high demand, and very worth the wait. If you have an espresso machine bringing it to Texas Coffee Traders is a great idea. Once every year or two, sacrifice the couple of weeks to get your machine purring like a kitten. Joe and Los do great work. Very much appreciated.
I was completely floored by the top-shelf quality of every single loose leaf tea I purchased here. I have never had such flavorful and strong Earl Grey before. Did I mention it’s also incredibly affordable ??? The Silver Needle tea is so high quality you can still feel the fuzz on the tea leaves. Absolutely incredible. +1 extra star for the incredibly nice staff. 6/5 stars.
Just got my first box of Texas Coffee Traders coffee today. It it was roasted two days before. Wow! Beautiful box and when you get it open you enter another world filled with exciting aromas of freshly roasted coffee. The coffee was just as good as it smelled. You will not be disappointed!
Full time traveler here (@whatrvdoing). I stopped in for some beans since I was out of my typical subscription. Asked for something from Kenya as normally those boast my favorite notes. The place was rad inside - it felt like an industrial coffee setting, which is fun to me. Super chill team of employees and coffee aficionados, however I should have asked the supreme question of all time. "What is the best thing on the menu?" in coffee terms for me, "best" would have been replaced with "juiciest." Because what I got was not what I love. I am sure this multi-decade provider of energy and awareness to adults has some good stuff, great stuff.. I just didn't land on one.
Great tasting coffee if you go for non flavored drinks, otherwise they disappointingly use pretty generic syrups for flavors. Great ambience and service.
Love the espresso! Fun unique Austin experience. The only thing is I arrived before 8am, the walkway gate was locked still but I saw some guys walk through the driveway. A first time girl in an unfamiliar neighborhood, I was a little scared to approach what looks like a warehouse. I followed through the driveway entrance and the barista guy was getting ready for his morning and so kindly helped me choose my morning brew. The atmosphere is out of the ordinary, walls and shelves lined with espresso machines and coffees from around the world. And they don’t charge an arm and a leg for a cup either 😋
I had a disappointing experience at your coffee shop due to an issue with the payment system and poor customer service. When I ordered a drip coffee, I was initially charged $2.50 and added a $1 tip. However, the barista then informed me that only $2 had been charged to my gift card, leaving $1 remaining. When I attempted to pay the remaining balance, I was charged an additional $2.50, resulting in a total charge of $4.50 for a $2.50 coffee. After pointing out this discrepancy and showing the barista my phone as proof that I had been double charged, she seemed unable to grasp the issue. Instead of investigating the problem or offering a refund, she simply stated that it was out of her control and that I would need to contact my bank. While I understand that $2.50 may not seem like a large sum, the lack of clarity in your pricing, the flaws in your payment system, and the unhelpful attitude of your staff left me feeling overcharged and undervalued as a customer. This experience soured what should have been a simple, pleasant coffee break. I hope you will look into this matter, rectify the issues with your payment process, and provide additional training to your staff on handling customer concerns with empathy and professionalism. Until then, I cannot in good conscience provide a five-star rating, as the service I received fell far short of my expectations.
I am posting this because I never seen no one at this place Texas trader coffee whatever it is they’ve been there for a while. They live right behind them. They have two dumpsters outside of their fence and I’m fed up with every day. I get home from work. I have to pick up trash in my yard in the street in front of my house because someone comes and plays in their trash cans and looking for some to eat or just digging the trash taking deep and all the trash out of the dumpster. I do not know why they cannot get a lock on that, never talk to anybody cause you never see anybody there the place is always empty so because tired of picking up trash every day, these people was like they don’t care move into the neighborhood. Don’t come check on it or anything.
