Wu Chow Austin Reviews
We came here to celebrate a birthday and Ana And Johnny made it very special. The service was attentive and personable. Loved the pork soup dumplings. The tangerine beef was a bit dry. Atmosphere is inviting, cozy, and well decorated
Dim sum for Sunday brunch is a must. No carts rounding the floor here. Each dish is made to order and brought out fresh. And every one is delicious. A fantastic meal.
Our family goes on Sundays for the Dim Sum. It is without a doubt our favorite restaurant in the known universe. Some of our favorites to order are the soup dumplings, shrimp har gow, scallion pancakes, sticky rice, I mean it’s all delicious. The service has always been very good to us and we’ve gone many times. Highly recommend.
A perfect 5. Fantastic food, excellent service, beautiful restaurant. We loved it. The food is some level of fusion Chinese, but elevated. Though they say it's family style portions, I felt they were more on the individual side. The dumplings were exquisite, as were several of the shrimp dishes. Singapore noodles were delish too. Highly recommend it!
Went for HH on my bday...everything and I mean everything was delish. We ordered off of the HH menu as first timers so we could try a bunch of stuff and ordered 1 main entree and full order of soup dumplings. We CANNOT wait to go back.
Wu Chow has successfully carved out a niche in Austin’s dining scene by blending authentic Sichuan flavors with a sleek, "Austin-cool" atmosphere. Whether you’re at the original Downtown location with its bustling urban vibe or the newer North Lamar spot, it remains a top-tier destination for elevated Chinese cuisine.
This was probably one of my favorite dining experiences! My partner and I did a walk in on a busy Saturday night, but despite this the staff were incredibly accommodating. I was sat right away at the patio, they turned on heaters for me, and made sure I never needed anything. My waitress was so nice and made sure out waters were never too low. The food was also amazing! We had the Peking duck special which has zero complaints. I also recommend the green beans, they are the best I've ever had. The restaurant also has an amazing vibe to it and is very classy and casual which I enjoyed. Will definitely be coming back!
Our waitress was amazing. She picked up a chopstick wrapper on the way to another table she was so attentive. Water was always full. The food was delicious. We should have asked for more spice but blame ourselves for that. The atmosphere was busy but clean, calm, and intentional. Just how I like it.
We went for Sunday dim sum. Food was good, but a little pricey. They do use and source the best produce in the area. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. The best part of this restaurant is you can flag down any server to place your order/ drink refill without waiting for your original server.
Had such a lovely dinner at WU Chow – Downtown — we shared a few small plates, including the Spicy Sichuan Deep-Fried Tofu and Chicken & Taro Eggrolls, then went for the Two-Faced Crispy Noodles Beef & Chicken (incredibly crispy and flavorful) and Wu Chow Fried Rice. Everything was balanced — the heat, the textures — and portion sizes made it easy to try a lot without overdoing it. The ambiance was sleek but comfortable (dim lighting, stylish décor), and the staff were excellent — they explained menu dishes, offered pairing suggestions, and made us feel at ease. Definitely one of those places I’ll bring guests to when I want to show off good Chinese food in Austin.
I had the absolute pleasure of being served by Morgan at Wu Chow, and she truly made our dining experience unforgettable! The food was absolutely delicious, but it was Morgan’s spectacular service that stood out the most. I usually have to ask for water multiple times because I drink a lot, but not once did I see the bottom of my glass – she was always on top of it! Morgan was so kind, attentive, and helpful throughout our meal. She took the time to explain each course, which made our evening even more enjoyable. I can’t say enough good things about her – I love, love, love her! If you go to Wu Chow, ask for Morgan. She’s the best!
Gotta give great marks to this spot which has managed to bring (and keep) elevated Chinese food in downtown Austin for a decade now. The flavors are always bright and vibrant, service is the perfect combo of professional and personable, and the cocktails are fun and innovative. Wu Chow is also a pillar of the community in many other ways. You'll often find events hosted here during SXSW and beyond, and leadership is consistent and proactive in giving back to central Texas. Most recently, the owner collaborated with other local Austin chefs to host a delicious dinner series fundraising for victims of the July 4, 2025 floods. I appreciate the way they use food and fun to raise awareness and care for others.
My husband & I went for our anniversary. We were actually not intending on coming here but as we were passing it we smelled the fresh ingredients and the aroma made us detour. The vibe is everything. Our server was Jehudiel and he was amazing! He recommended our drinks which were the spicy margarita (mala Rita) & the nien numb, the drinks were different but amazing. We loved them. We chose to have the tangerine beef (extra spicy was an option but man was that kick powerful lol — the peppers catch you off guard so have your water ready). This dish was so full of flavor & perfect. We also had the Cumin Lamb, it was so flavorful & the crispiness on it was top notch. We will definitely be back!
Came to Wu Chow for our anniversary dinner without a reservation. Online it showed no wait, but when we arrived, there was about an hour wait for indoor seating. Luckily, there was no wait for outdoor seating, so we took the chance even though it was a bit chilly. Thankfully, they had plenty of heaters, and we stayed warm. The food was incredible—we had the Wu Chow special fried rice, shrimp Chengdu, soup dumplings, and chicken Chengdu, and everything was packed with flavor. Service was great too, even though we were outside. Definitely coming back!
This place is absolutely outstanding! It offers exceptional value for your money. On my second visit to Wu Chow, I was once again impressed by the consistently high food quality. We indulged in the chicken dumplings, which were impeccably fresh and incredibly delicious. The crispy chicken with Szechuan pepper provided the perfect balance of zing without being overly spicy. However, the real stars of the meal were the cumin lamb and the chili chicken – simply the best! I highly recommend these two dishes, especially when paired with their fragrant fried rice. The portions are generously sized and easily satisfy two hungry diners. Overall, this establishment is a gem. They also have a wide variety of cocktails and beer/wines! The ambiance is delightful, and their prices are very reasonable. If you're visiting Austin, I wholeheartedly endorse this place. It's a culinary delight!
i had a great time at Wu Chow. I would absolutely recommend Wu Chow to any vegans or vegetarians. The server was able to ensure everything was vegan before it came out and there were a number of options. The service was great, the happy hour wine was good, and the food was delicious. The Sichuan Braised Eggplant was amazing. Our server was attentive and the food came out quick. The server was able to make great recommendations for vegan options. If you’re a vegan i would 1000% recommend and just ask your server which meat options can be replaced with tofu.
Came in for my sisters graduation lunch and had a wonderful experience. Walked in and was seated outside in the patio area where our table was ready for us. Beautiful patio, excellent customer service provided by Taylor, clean, and good quality food. Taylor was extra busy but very helpful and patient with our ordering process. Definitely would recommend and be back again soon. 🔥

Great Sunday brunch. Big variety of tasty dim sum. Nice service. Reasonably priced for what it is. Fried, steamed, bao, all types of dim sum for all palates.
Came in on Wednesday early evening. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived but started filling quickly. There is only a happy hour bar menu from 4-5:00. The food was quite tasty and fresh. We had the crispy fish, sweet and spicy chicken and hunan beef. All were very delicious. We will be back.
The food was great, we really enjoyed the braised eggplant, Peking duck, and crispy noodles with beef and chicken. Family style plates for sharing. When we made our reservations they only had outdoor seating available and unfortunately car traffic can be distracting and affects the vibe/ambiance.
In town for the Lumineers concert the night before… We were searching for something that we couldn’t normally find where we are from. My daughter had to return an item to urban outfitters so we searched for restaurants, nearby and found Wu Chow. Service was exceptional! The dumplings were delicious, but the noodles seemed different than what we are accustomed to. Pleasantly surprised to learn that the waitress removed the noodles from the ticket since so few were eaten. We showed our appreciation by replacing that cost in the tip! The atmosphere was pleasant and overall I’d say I would return.
Food flavors were absolutely incredible. But our soup was cold. Others sent back food around us for being cold too. The restaurant was not that busy at 5:15 but because we didn’t have reservations we had to sit outside. That was fine, it was a last minute decision while we were walking past to sit. However was waiter was absolutely terrible. He would disappear for long periods of time, others filled our drinks and brought us silverware and soy. He was not good. Other servers seemed attentive with their tables. Never went inside but the atmosphere seemed nice. The patio was nothing special. Probably won’t return ever again. Much better options in Austin.

We had a nice dinner here with friends who had been before. Great service and good food. atmosphere is noisy so conversation is difficult.
Ordered takeout. When I picked up the food there were all these hidden fees that were not explained to me when I ordered. They charge you a 10% connivence fee plus they charge you for the containers to pack up your food. Seems a little nickel and dime especially since it’s not cheap Chinese food. They should just charge the 10% but not both. Food was good but woke up in the middle of the night super thirsty because the food is so salty!!

Decided to come here for Christmas Eve for something a little bit more fun. The decor is nice, but service is very mediocre. No one really asked how our food was, had to ask for my beer a few times to get it. Various servers were taking away dumpling soup spoons, then we had to ask for more. Our food would come on the lazy Susan without serving spoons, then we had a long wait to get them and eat. The food isn’t great. Dumplings are pretty good. I’m sure a real Chinese restaurant makes them offsite and they just steam them, although the soup dumplings were undercooked. Rice in the fried rice was slightly hard and undercooked. Orange beef was fatty and inedible. Pecan Prawns were pedestrian. Wouldn’t go back, there are far better, authentic Chinese restaurants.
