La Basilique Baldissero Torinese Reviews
We were so happy to visit this place today, however it is so much depending on the weather. And it was extremly cloudy, so this ruined our efforts for any view. The basilica itself is a great building, very suitable for taking pictures, relax and have a (self)guided tour. IMPORTANT FOR VISITORS: Be carefull till the end of March 2026. The Sassi Superga tram is out of order! You need to take the 79 bus line, which has strong limitations in schedule, allowing to go downwards only once per hour and the busses are not very big.
Be sure and go on a clear day to optimize your visit. If the weather is poor the cupola will be closed but you can still see the crypt and the apartments. I recommend seeing all the options even though the guided tour is in Italian if you don’t speak Italian they have a translated info packet about the tour so you won’t be clueless. The crypt was the most interesting as it is still in use for distant relatives of the savoy family. The most recent burial was just a few years ago. The architecture of the building is stunning! Parking was easy and the guides are so friendly. The weather was moody and foggy the day i went so the cupola was closed but the visit was still worth it to see the church and the crypt.
The Superga Basilica sits atop the hill on the northern side of the city. It's visible from miles around when driving towards Turin. You can reach it by car - they have a big parking lot just right from the Church, or by a small train departing from the foot of the hill. It's a big Baroque edifice, recently renovated and painted in royal dark yellow. Visiting the main Church is free and the interiors are magnificent. Visiting the crypt with Royal Savoy tombs and the viewing platform on the dome is paying. From the terrace in front of the Church is a spectacular panoramic view of Turin. At the back side is a commemoration site for the football victims plane crash in 1949
One of the best places to visit for the views. The basilica was beautiful. It is located at the top of the hill. You can access it via car, cable car or by foot. Make sure you go when the sky is clear to enjoy the scenery. You might not be able to visit the upper floor when it’s windy. If you are planning to go to the tombs tour. It is mandatory to go with a guide. The guide doesn’t speak English so you will miss the majority of the information. But you they give you a paper with the most important information about the tour.
Beautiful place on the top of a large hill overlooking Torino. Had a tour of the Royal Tombs of the House of Savoy. As well as the room with the collection of portraits of popes through history. The center gardens are beautiful. Unfortunately the day we were there visibility was poor so didn’t get the view of Torino so many talk about.
Nice trip up to the Basilica on the incline tram. Getting to the top is a short uphill walk from the station. The Basilica certainly looks aged and could do with a bit of paint on the outside 😅 Inside is beautiful of course and we paid for a visit up to the dome. It's in a very small single staircase that winds up to the top, not for those who can't climb! The view is very nice from the top though with full views of the city and more. You then descend back down the staircase but may need to wait a while if anyone is coming up.
Ideally use the Funicular railway. It's a 18 minute trundle and maybe 5km up. Good views of the mountains of the Alps. In full Summer (we were early Spring) the many trees will screen a lot of the view. The best bit of the Superrga is the Basilica and the wonderful Royal House of Savoy tombs.
