Tricky Fish Benbrook Reviews
Tricky Fish has easily become one of my daughter & my favorite restaurants. The food is always super fresh, flavorful & service with a smile always! Tonight, we had the pleasure of being served by a waiter named Terrance. What was even more special about tonight, other than it being Valentine’s Day, was that we were Terrance’s very first table! He did a wonderful job with his knowledge of the menu, made great suggestions & conversation too. We had such an amazing meal (shrimp boil & Atlantic salmon & the Filthy Pineapple Mules are amazing btw!!) We’ll certainly be back! Thanks a bunch!
Very busy shopping center at night on Thursday. Had to circle to park. Pleasantly surprised there were added offerings for Mardi Gras and the Boiled Pot for 2 with crab and 1/2 pound shrimp added was plentiful. We had 30A Queso with blackened shrimp to start. Boiled was spicy but not terriblly so. Zara was very helpful and busy trying to wait and bar tend. We hear the okra is amazing. It will have to wait until next time. No room for dessert.
This place is absolutely amazing. My wife and I with our 15th month old went here for dinner and we had Peter for our server. Probably some of the best service we’ve had as a family especially at a seafood restaurant in Fort Worth. The food was absolutely fantastic and very well priced. Plus they have an amazing Firemans four light on draft which is pretty hard to find. Highly recommend coming here for a family date night or even some cocktails. Also, the seafood is pretty amazing for being in the panhandle of Texas.
We had such a great night here! The vibe is classy but still relaxed — the kind of place where you can dress up a little or just come hungry and happy. It feels polished without being stuffy, which made it perfect for a fun dinner out with friends. The real star of the evening, though, was Ashley. She was fantastic — friendly, attentive, and completely on top of everything without ever hovering. She made the whole table feel taken care of and added just the right amount of personality to the experience. If you get Ashley, you’re in good hands. As for the food, it absolutely delivered. I had the shrimp and grits, which were rich and flavorful. My wife ordered the étouffée, and it was just as impressive. Our friends shared the snow crab for two, and it was fresh, generous, and worth every bite. Great food, great service, great energy. We left full and happy — which is exactly how a five-star dinner should end.
We went to Tricky Fish tonight for the 1st time and loved it! Boudin balls for app! They were crispy and flavorful. Hubby got the lobster bisque soup and crab cakes with the best slaw he has ever had he said and I got the Parmesan crusted haddock, loaded potatoes and Mac n cheese. Service was top notch and our waitress Crystal was amazing! Best personality, friendly and very attentive. Highly recommend!!
We dined out here today. It was one of the most pleasurable experiences we've had eating out in sometime. A very pleasant server named Ashley took our drink orders. We both got a small frozen margarita which was very tasty. We had already pretty much made up our minds what we were going to eat when we got there by looking at the menu. We ordered a half dozen raw oysters on a half shell and an order of the fried green tomatoes. The oysters were nice, medium sized oysters and tasted deliciously fresh. The fried green tomatoes were yummy. They were six small, lightly breaded tomatoes; each with a small shrimp centered on top with remoulade. They were fantastic! For our entree we ordered a platter of two filets of catfish and six shrimp. Of course there was plenty of red sauce and delicious pink tarter sauce. It must have been homemade and was very tasty. I ordered one more Corona Extra and ordered peanut butter pie to go. Needless to say that was some pie! Thanks to Ashley and the management and we'll be back soon.😀
Five star rating and understandment. First time visiting and will be coming back for more. Had the catfish and shrimp platter with coleslaw and fries. Fries seasoned perfectly right amount of crunch, fish filets seasoned and battered right amount of crunch and flacky. Service was top notch. Will be back for more.
Tricky Fish is our go-to spot after church every Sunday. The Sunday brunch is always amazing! I always order the shrimp and oyster grits—they’re perfectly cooked and full of flavor—and the fried green tomatoes are a must-try appetizer. My husband really enjoys their fresh salads and broiled fish entrées. They also make an excellent Bloody Mary that pairs perfectly with brunch. Great food, friendly service, and a relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend Tricky Fish for a consistent and delicious Sunday brunch!
We were completely blown away at how delicious our food was from Tricky Fish! We ordered door dash and were worried it would show up soft or soggy but the fish and chips were SO crispy and perfect! The crawfish etoufee and kitchen sink gumbo were both very unique and scrumptious in their own ways. Their fries and Cole slaw were SO good the Mahi Mahi was cooked to perfection. Tastiest loaded mashed potatoes ever and the sautéed veggies had a very nice kick to them. I honestly can’t wait to order from here again and def want to make a visit in person. If it was that good delivered I am certain it will be even more YUM in person.
I travel to Fort Worth regularly for medical appointments and shopping. This was the best dining experience I’ve had in years. The food was excellent. Served hot and timely by Ashley. Ashley was personable and respectful. She joked with my 85 year old father and handled our questions about the food with ease. I will return and recommend to others.
First of all! Great customer service from the staff. I ordered from the Door dash app for a pickup order. I have looked up this places that serve fried green tomatoes which is one of my favorite dishes. I ordered fried green tomatoes, boudin balls, catfish platter & fries, Caesar salad topped off with key lime pie with berries. I couldn't even leave the parking spot without digging into everything one awesome bite at a time. The fried green tomatoes were so delicious but I couldn't stop there I experienced some of the best food in America I only had a small portion left for dinner because I just couldn't resist eating more & more. I wish they had a buffet or all you can eat catfish special for just one day. Shot one hour would be incredible. The food was fried perfectly. Can't wait to go back again! Oops I forgot to take pictures. If you're looking for some of the best seafood in Fort Worth Texas stop by your taste buds won't be disappointed.
This turned out to be one of my favorite meals on this visit to Fort Worth. The seafood was fantastic, and the price was quite reasonable. Service was very helpful throughout which is pretty much par for course in Texas. The environment is very clean and modern but still very comfortable feeling. Also the restaurant is in a nice shopping complex area with options for excellent coffee or even Whole Foods nearby. This is the kind of place I'd stop in by myself just to grab a simple, light seafood lunch --- maybe a dozen gulf oysters and the fried calamari which is PERFECT! Highly recommend!
April 2025 Visit: we were craving for some fish-n-chips and our last dining experience here was incredible so came back. So glad we came! Our food was served hot, fish and chips tasted fresh with the perfect crunch. The restaurant was clean and has a vibrant setting. Zahra attended to us promptly when we walked in and attentively throughout the dinner. Her service was top notch and with a smile, making the overall dining experience worth the 20 mile drive! We feel that the management team here is going a great job recruiting and training the talent and running a solid restaurant. We will be back and will try other items on the menu! ————————————————————- Jan 2025 Visit: No nonsense seafood and the best fish n chips in dfw, hands down! Everything to the point and delicious…no cutting corners here food or service. If you haven’t been to this location, then GO! Pro Tip: ask for Sarah! We had an outstanding outdoor lunch service by her. She was proud of her work (a delight to see it these days), full of energy and took ownership of giving us a 5-star dining experience.
The fish tacos are awesome. They go good with the Community IPA on draft. My girlfriend's sister got the fish and chips and it looks delicious! I need to go back soon and explore the menu. Staff is helpful and the restrooms are clean. That says a lot about the kitchen's cleanliness. I'll definitely be back soon!
The server was great. We ordered shrimp and fish tacos and shrimp/spinach enchiladas. The shrimp in the tacos were good. The fish was overcooked and dry. The corn tortillas were cold and tough. The enchiladas were not what I ordered. They were shrimp and sausage with lots of peppers. Not good at all. When I told the server, she took it back to the manager and they thanked us for letting them know that when they add the enchiladas in the system it enters as the seafood enchiladas. There was not an apology or we are sorry. No offer to discount our meal. Customer service these days does not existent. We will not go back.
Is it normal for a server to notify the manager after being informed the hush puppies we were served were undercooked? The person that was representing as manager explained to us the soft center was due to the amount of cheese in them, but we showed her the undercooked, raw and doughy insides and she agreed to have another order made. We had no issues with the drinks, appetizers or seafood platters other than the hush puppies. A manager trying to convince us to accept undercooked food turned the whole experience into not feeling welcome at Tricky Fish. It also didn't help that the hostess that held the door for us as we were leaving made a snide comment to us.
I've always heard good things about this restaurant and people have recommended it multiple times. The presentation of the food was the best thing about this place it all looked so good but it's sad to say that wasn't the result we ordered the catfish and shrimp platter was so stoked when it came out but the shrimp ended up tasting kind of rubbery IMO as well as the catfish just wasn't the best especially for the price of the food , I'd say if the food was a bit cheaper then it probably give it a 3 star. My favorite thing we had was the appetizer blue cheese and chips it was good but the price again didn't seem to match the amount/quality of food but again the presentation they look super delicious and mouth watering, my girls favorite dish their was the coleslaw she said it was delicious but I'm not a big Cole slaw person so I'll have to agree w her on it. The atmosphere of the place was not good we were there about an hour and we did not see one single employee smile everyone their seemed to not enjoy their job from the hostess, bar , waiters and the staff handling the food. I'm not saying I will not give this another go in the future but as of right now I'd just rate it a 2 star overall if we base it off the presentation itself of the food I'd give it a 4. Definitely try it out and make your own opinion I can't speak for everyone as well as people do have off/bad days and maybe this was just one here.
We visited Tricky Fish on Sunday, November 2, 2025, for my cousin’s 30th birthday gathering. The first part of our experience was extremely disappointing and honestly upsetting. Our group arrived around 4:00 p.m., and we got there a few minutes later around 4:20. My aunt let the host know we were with the same party — they were seated at the high table to the right, and we were being sat right behind them. When my aunt asked if the tables could be pushed together so we could all sit as a family, Matt (the staff member) immediately said no and made it clear he wasn’t willing to do that, even though the restaurant was basically empty at the time. Then he told my aunt he could ask us to leave — which was completely unnecessary and disrespectful. His tone and attitude made it obvious that our presence as a large Black family bothered him. You could literally see the disgust on his face. At that point, my uncle stepped in to calm things down, and we decided to stay and make the best of it. But the energy was already ruined. The servers took a while to come over — it was clear they were talking about what had happened instead of helping us. We finally went to the bar to get drinks, and that’s where things started to turn around. The bartender was amazing — so kind, professional, and welcoming. She didn’t comp anything or make excuses, she just treated us like valued guests. Her attitude truly changed the mood for us. Bar drinks: 10/10 Food: 8/10 (but who messes up a Caesar salad?) Dear Tricky Fish, please do better. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, no matter what they look like or how big their group is. We came to celebrate, to eat, and to enjoy being a family. It’s sad that in 2025 we still have to experience this type of treatment. We refused to let it ruin our day — but it definitely changed how we see your restaurant.
HORRIBLE SERVICE! Just got back from a lunch with 9 people - restaurant was about 1/2 full. Took over 2 hours! Wait staff was extremely slow and more interested in talking to others than doing their jobs. 1 of our 9 ordered their special - we ALL waited over 20+ minutes for it to be delivered (and after 2 complaints - one to manager and one to server) - and their solution was to comp the warm, ready meal vs. the cold meal(s) that were now 20 minutes out with nobody touching them. To add insult to it all - manager came by and asked if we were ready to check out, said yes, off she went. Server came by 8 minutes later - ready to check out - yes, your manager just asked us. Waited another 6 minutes - finally had to get up and go ask for our check to check out. Wait staff is trying to do too many things at once. Bus tables, make drinks, get food, seat people - pick 1 or 2 things and do it. There was not a single person left in that restaurant when we left 2 hours later that was there when we arrived 2 hours earlier. Whole parties walked in, ordered drinks, got food and checked out while we were still waiting. No kidding! We are all repeat customers - never again. Unreal.
