Papaya Bergenfield Reviews
Here's my honest opinion - delicious and authentic food run by warm friendly staff! We were blown away by each of the dishes and how cozy and warm the restaurant felt. Don't let the other negative reviews fool you. The air does NOT feel oily and food is perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend getting the fried tofu appetizer and the Malaysian curry noodle soup! Great portion for the price.
The food was excellent. Did not realize how big the servings were and ordered way too much but we still ended up finishing everything because of how good everything was! Will definitely be back!
Lovely family-owned Thai restaurant with fantastic food and service. BYOB. We ordered Saigon beef(more than enough for 2 people). Sizzling platter arrived ASAP. Amazing flavor and just $20. There's usually a 10 min wait for table but we arrived about 5pm and were seated immediately. You should go!
Authentic Thai food (I’ve been to Thailand). The flavor in their dishes are outstanding and I love that they have a lunch special. Even without the lunch special, they are reasonably priced and they have great portions. I especially enjoy the Chiang Mai and basil dishes. They also give you hot tea complimentary. Green Papaya is a BYOB Restaurant.
Do you want Asian food, but want something different from typical corner-Chinese food or sushi? Green Papaya won't let you down! Visit for Asian fusion (primarily Thai and Malaysian) and a refreshing fruit smoothie or milk tea. We ordered Homemade Crispy Tofu to start, Malaysian Curry (mild curry with your choice of protein, veggies and coconut milk), and Pad Thai. Everything was delicious and recommendable. The service was quick and friendly. The dining area is comfortable and with homey decor. Some might think that the tables are a bit too close. However, personally, I felt ok. I've been here many times and have never been disappointed. Don't hesitate to come by Green Papaya for a change of pace!
I have been going to Green Papaya for some years with relatives who live nearby as it has been a favorite restaurant of theirs. Today I tried the lunch menu which was terrific, everything was quite good. Staff is attentive and will be quick to refill your cup of jasmine tea which is quite nice. It's a bustling restaurant, nothing fancy about the place but nothing that distracts from the experience except that sometimes it can be busy. We typically go as a party of 5-7 and never had any issues being seated. The appetizers are very tasty, crispy tofu, calamari or roti with dipping sauce. We usually get a couple of each and they are delicious. The main menu is also quite diverse. You can pick from a range of different curry's and pair it with chicken, shrimp, beef, veggies etc., Along with other Thai specialties. They also have vegetarian chicken. I had this last time I visited and it was quite good. I visited Green Papaya 'post Covid'. I think things are a bit different but not unlike other restaurants I have visited. Portions seem a touch smaller, staff wears masks, and maybe a bit different due to some Covid changes like sanitizers etc. But flavor is still the same terrific flavors. I definitely recommend Been Papaya a d believe they will be back to full stride, along with other restaurants so wort a try.
Came here to get dinner with a friend and had a great time. I've been coming here ever since it first opened many many years ago and the food still taste amazing!! The staff and owners are super nice and friendly. Definitely check this place out for dinner when your around the area.
Wow. Amazing food. Really really good. Our regular spot for lunch . They have amazing drunken noodles, fried tofu , soups , and Malaysian curry noodle soup with tofu… Really authentic. Nice and spacious .. and free hot tea .. can't ask for more.. superb service .. always smiling … lots of parking outside , overall a good experience 👍👍
The food was good and very affordable compared to most Thai places. The staff was attentive and friendly. However maybe we went for our first visit on a day their heater broke or maybe it's normally cold but I had to eat with my winter coat on and in the bathroom I could see my breath it was so cold. The overall experience wasn't good because I was freezing. I will try again in the spring or order takeout.
Never judge a book by its cover. The exterior of the restaurant looks very questionable. However, the food is actually quite good. Not authentic for sure. Good portions at very reasonable prices. Plenty of chicken in each dish as well. A choice of brown or white rice. The only bad dish was the calamari appetizer. It felt like chewing on rubber. Skip it.
Takeout is not good. We ordered: -Crispy tofu - a little dry. I also didn't care for the sauce it came with. It was too sweet -Pad Thai - looked different from when we dined in. It was lighter in color for takeout. Also, the noodles were in pieces -Pad Kee Mao - this was pretty good. It wasn't overly spicy and the noodles held up -Pad See Ew - this was probably the worst pad see ew I've ever tasted. It was WAY too salty and sweet to the point where my mouth felt numb after eating it. I would highly recommend dining in, which stinks because I love getting takeout. But this just isn't one of the places to do it at. *UPDATED FEB 2025* Came in for dinner on a rainy Friday just before 6, and it wasn't too crowded - but it seemed like a lot of people were coming in to pick up some takeout. I had the Pad Thai with beef and hubby had the Massaman curry with beef. Pad Thais are usually a hit or miss but this one was a hit! The flavor was perfectly balanced - not too sweet, salty, or sour. Plus, the portions are HUGE! We both ate a good amount of it and had leftovers for a small meal the next day. The Massaman curry on the other hand was a miss, unfortunately. I don't know if it traditionally has peanuts in it, but it was a little weird. It was also more like a broth, then it was a curry. It was very soupy. I don't know about the curries here but it seems like they do noodles pretty well, so I definitely will be back for some more of that!
This is not authentic at all, the pineapple fried rice has no flavor, the ton yum soup is just soup base with water with some canned veggie thrown in. The green curry is so watery that I cant even tell it is green. I dont know why they have such high reviews, may be there is just no competition's around. We were visiting a friend in the neighborhood and my daughter was hungry so we decided to stop by and try this highly rated joint out, but is very disappointing. The owner (I assume she is the owner) is very nice, and so does the other waitress, but the guy looks like he doesnt want to work there. I saw a lot of return customers which is a good sign for the biz, but the food quality is really not there. Portion is big though.
