So many choices it's amazing!! and the view is stunning! Our waitress was great as well, so nice!
I went to HS Lordship for mother's day. The service, food, and atmosphere was amazing. Their brunch buffet on the weekends is to die for. Definitely will return!!!!!!!
It's a nice buffet place with a great view on the city. I was impressed
Best kept bay view restaurant!
Kim and savy our the best waiters at the resturant! They make you feel welcome and like family. The Sunday morning buffet is the best in the bay. The have food galore...crab, sushi, chicken enchiladas, dessert section is so good. I wish they wouldn't close soon.
So sad that they have shut their doors for good. This was a really nice place to brunch, and the food selection was great. Staff was very friendly and I feel so bad for those that have spent a lifetime working there, as this place had been operating for at least 50 years.
My dad would go to the brunches on Sundays at the least twice a month and shared his wonderful food experiences there to me. He has passed away and we now get together around his birthday each year to honor him. So, this past Sunday our family got together and had the best time. Sherry our hostess was wonderful, she took good care of us and she remembers my dad and his special table...he would be one of the first to arrive at 9am. He loved the crab! It was a beautiful day. Thanks..
I had the pleasure of attending a combined birthday celebration for two dear friends, which was held at HS Lordships. It was my first visit there but I can assure you all it won't be my last. The location is on the peninsula in the Berkeley Marina channel and our room had a magnificent view of the San Francisco Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the small sailboats whizzing around in the marina. I loved the "funky" old wood paneling and carpeting as if one were walking into someone's comfortable home. The hostess, Sherry, gets an A+ for her welcoming attitude, bright smile and sense of humor. As to the weekend brunch buffet, if you can't find what you want, you must not have taste buds. The selections were outstanding! Made-to-order omelet anyone?
First time there and LOVED it it was a friends bday and our servicer kept our glasses full. The three of us 7 EACH free drinks on top of our two free ones. The food was awesome. I'm going back with my family . :-) Soooo many choices of food. I dabbled in everything
Great food and service! We had a birthday celebration here and waaaay more people showed up than responded. Sherry and the rest of the staff accomodated our larger than anticipated group, and we were able to sit together and have a great time.
Very popular place so get a reservation and go for champagne brunch buffet. Call in and ask for a view, and arrive very hungry! Great selection of ethnic foods and standard buffet options as well.
Not only does the champagne brunch offer a wide variety of delicious food to choose from and a great view, but on two occasions we've seen a seal or sea lion in the bay from our seats.
They have the best view ever at the Berkeley Marina far as I'm concerned the best I've seen in Berkeley nice and cozy there were people coming out of the water (wind surfing) you can see the Berkeley Hills as well the Bay Bridge they have a cozy fireplace . I didn't dine however I had a cocktail They have plenty of parking
I came here for an Easter brunch with friends. We didn't have to wait very long at all for a table. The selection was incredible. I ate my fill of crab legs and then went back for dessert. I don't know if it's always all-you-can-eat, but it definitely is on holidays. $50 for as much food as you can eat and two mimosas is a great deal. I was stuffed! The views of the Bay are great.
I walked up this morning without reservation and waited approximately three minutes to be seated. Within a couple more minutes I had a mimosa and fresh OJ on the table while I surfed the Internet looking where to write this review... the people are gathering everyone seems happy. I'm sure the buffet will prove excellent as well...the hostess is sherry, she's amazing! P.S. It was Easter morning!
It was great, the hostess gave us a great seat with a nice view. The food was excellent. The waiter couldn't have been better. He was johnny on the spot with water, juice, champagne, or any thing that we needed.
I really enjoyed my trip here the foods were excellent. I ordered the prime rib and it was tender juicy and well prepared. The venue was classy without being stuffy. And the waiters and servers were polite and knowledgeable. I would recommend this to locals as well as tourists.
I have been a customer for over 20 years. Sunday brunch with fabulous views, impeccable service and good food has always been appreciated. (Especially Sherri, the hostess, who makes her guests feel welcome and seems to have have a genuine like of her customers.) But last night my fiancé and I went to Skates on the Bay next door. The food was good, but the service was the worst we ever had. The waiter didn't listen, we had to ask for the same thing 3 different times, entree was delivered before the appetizers, dirty dishes left on our table, bread was cold, etc. And as we wondered initially why we had never gone there before, we left regretting we didn't go to H.S. Lordship's.
I had a great experience this Berkeley restaurant; the food was delicious, and the service was awesome. I met Sally, Leo and Sherry and they provided me with outstanding service. Furthermore, the view was so romantic and relaxing; the restaurant was above the water looking at the bay. I highly encourage everyone to try it because you really get more than what you pay for. The hubby and I stumbled along this place while visiting the Berkeley Marina to catch the sunset. We were seated by the window. I must say this place has a lovely view of Oakland and the city. Fish and chips were a delight. It was fresh, crispy and not oily! Love love how the portions are huge! The hubby had the prime rib. I took a bite (or two) and it was delicious. Very tender and juicy! Seasoned very well. Kudos to the chef.
Iʻve been with friends several times to HS Lordships and we've always had good experiences. I have many food allergies, and they have been very accommodating. We were allowed to sit and talk as long as we pleased without interference (my friends have come from out of town). The champagne we were served was not "crappy" as another reviewer put it, it was a good medium quality house wine. The service was at times a little slow (depending on number of patrons), but the servers were very gracious and professional. I was once there for a large dinner honoring a retiree from Fresno -- we all gathered in Berkeley at HS Lordships where two rows of tables were set up for us and a pre-ordered dinner served. Again, the staff was very accommodating, and we spent the entire afternoon eating, drinking, and talking. It was memorable. The view of the bay and sunset was lovely.
My girlfriend and I came here for lunch. I was very impressed with the service and the Buffett. Our waitress was Blanch.....I really like her. I'm into customer service so I recognize one. She was very nice and made sure we were taking care of. The food is fresh and up to my expectation. I would come here again.....
Service was very good however we were the only guests in the rather large dining room. Food was pretty good but you're really paying for the view. The view and ambiance is very calm and soothing and the huge windows let in a lot of light.
Little pricey for what there is. But add the views and you'll get over it. Tough to keep a pier rest open for decades. Just went to buffet brunch. Only review is for non-Holiday attendance. Shrimp was not fresh, agreed on all in party of 5. Updating slowly. Restroom plumbing needs help Hard workers there trying to make it work. Mushroom gravy was used for morning biscuits and gravy. Had some Hispanic and Asian to please all to add to the American expected fare. They did even the last two hours add more clean plates and kept up with all items in heated buffet style servers. Server waitress was happy to inform for first timers and serve Mimosas. Enough staff and mgmt on a Sunday to take address to any issues. Pretty shrimp cocktails. Plenty of differe t items including bbq ribs. Even a slow carving station of ham, roast beef (almost prime rib style), and turkey (kinda dried out), but awaiting staff to make cook to order omelet station and waffle as well to order. As any buffet, the servers working don't do anything but give initial drinks and/or water. But you can't expect much gratuity when the customer serves self everything else, wrongplace to work for tips. You don't even have to order drinks with your table assignment server, you can choose between three juices on ice AND 3 coffees including on our visit Irish Cream pre sweetened coffee with fresh whipped creme along side (keep in mind, it was St. Party's Day weekend), around thirty nine for each and @62 senior discount was given with ID. Go once, if local Richmond Berkeley close to State's and faces south westerly. Events happen on the catering side 50-75 or so on the other side larger older building. Silverware setup already in place and is nice linen on tabletop. You may or may not be returning. They try. We could of bought the same with tip for 2 for just under a hundred for seafood and steak@ SCOMAS OF SF at another pier with the rest. Owned boat that pulls up with fresher seafood outside your window for less for 2 in party.
Let's be honest, you're really paying for the view with this place. The interior is dated and a bit drabby, the bathrooms were not clean, but the views are spectacular. The food itself was not bad, but nothing really stood out to me.
One of my favorite Sunday buffets. It's a little pricey, but the selection is the largest I've seen. Including made to order omelettes, and sushi. They also have a whole room dedicated to deserts. If you're a champagne drinker, the bottomless mimosas will keep you happy.
Very quaint. Out of the way, SF place to go. Great views.
Excellent west view of the golden gate bridge ...sun down is a unforgettable experience....
Beautiful restaurant, good Sunday brunch buffet, but I will say that I was nonplussed by the seafood offered. All the steamed seafood I tried (shrimp, crab legs, and mussels) from the buffet was very bland/overcooked and even as a great lover of shellfish, I did not eat more than a couple of bites of each.
Valentine's dinner. Kinda pricey but overall it was good. Good was hot, drinks were great. Had not been there for about 15 or 20 years. It was nice. Great old school memories!
Today was their last day of business. The service was wonderful and we had no issues, we had a fantabulous time. Our server Cassandra was very personable and accommodating. We are really going to miss it there, we have had many years of good times and celebrations there. Bravo H's Lordship!!!!
I went on Easter Sunday. It was the only place I could go with no reservations on Easter Sunday with a party of six. The food was delicious and the staff was courteous. I was grateful they accepted me and my guests for our unplanned outing. The four stars is because they only served buffet and it was $59.00 per person. On the positive side I'm a vegetarian and they had real food not just salad. I prefer to eat vegan but when I go out or visit people, I eat vegetarian. I'm grateful I could go there we all had a good time. I would eat there again.
The view is amazing. Makes the somewhat dated place still well worth it. Food was very good (Sunday brunch). Got a great table, too, yay. Only the service leaves some to be desired. Staff looks grumpy, after being seated waited for 10 minutes for some water, then another 5 for coffee. Small cups empty fast and another 10 minute wait for a refill with a somewhat diluted brew - all that with a grumpy face. Makes the $ 45.- pp an expense you are no longer enthusiastic to make. Service charge 15, 18 or 20 %... ? Really? If you don't enjoy your job, why not do something else and not spoil other people's mood on Sunday morning?
After 20+ years, we came back here to the place where we held our wedding reception. It was the exact day and time, and it was every bit as romantic as the first meal we shared as a married couple. The ambience is, without a doubt, perfect for a quiet, intimate dinner, complete with beautiful views of the bay at sunset and evening lights from the city. We had our dinner in time (5-6 pm) for the Sunset Menu, which is a 3-course meal at a fixed price of about $27/person. First course was Clam Chowder or Mixed Greens Salad. Second course was a choice between prime rib, pasta, chicken breast, or salmon. Third course was a classic NY cheesecake. We had the Chicken Breast and Herbed Salmon for our entrees. The chicken breast was moist and tender. The salmon was well-seasoned with herbs and placed on a bed of rice with a lemon sauce that complimented the dish so well. We were very pleased with our meal. Our table was at the window facing the Golden Gate Bridge and SF skyline. The food was excellent and the service was spot on. Everyone should have a chance to dine here and experience the wonderful sight of the Bay. It was a great way to spend our anniversary dinner, with a stroll through memory lane.
I was here Easter morning and there was a buffet. Not sure if they do this every Sunday morning, but it was very good. A HUGE selection and an omelet/pasta bar. Everything from continental breakfast items to southern/soul food inspired breakfast dishes to sushi. It was annoying that they opened the doors late and had the line of people wait outside in the cold. Also some of the staff were very grumpy/rude, but overall a good experience. A very good brunch choice (with mimosas!).
Went on Christmas day for their brunch. Excellent choice of entrees at the buffett; seafood, turkey, roast beef, breakfast if you wished, desserts, coffee, tea, various juices. Great service from our wait staff. Nice views of the Bag. Would have given 5 stars, but the place needs spiffing up in areas.
We went to HS Lordships for a group dinner of around 20 people. Before the event we were given a choice of salmon, chicken, pasta or prime rib entree with soup or salad, dessert (cheesecake), and coffee for $25. We had the salmon and prime rib entrees and thought that they were quite good and a reasonable value. We were not given a private room but the restaurant is enormous so we were not close to any other parties. It has a nice view looking at the Bay Bridge. Overall our experience was a positive one. This isn't the kind of place we would go to all the time but I think we would consider it again for a similar event.
Our first time visiting for a Friend's 60th Birthday. We were a party of 15. The place serves brunch on Saturdays. There were large groups all over the restaurant. I think our server was a bit overwhelmed with the needs of our groups. He looked so stressed, another guy was helping him who seemed to be more relaxed and efficient. The views make you wanna go on vacation. The food is good. There is an omelet and pasta making station. The buffet has several options for everyone in your party.
Awesome views of the bay and food wasn't bad. It's not exactly the best but I'm not complaining either. They have a sunset prix fixe menu that's reasonable and worth trying. This place would have rated better had it not been for the place requiring major renovations. The bathroom is old and dinghy. The whole resto actually is so outdated.
Kind of an old fashion feel to the place. Its like going to someone's old mansion. The water view tables are great. We saw sea lions and fish diving birds plus several people wind surfing (including a few epic wipeouts). The shrimp cocktail had some huge shrimp and they provide free bread butter and pesto at the start of your meal. Lower star rating because we felt kind of rushed because we got there near the end of lunch (2:30 when they close at 3).
Great concept but when we went, the entire staff was really unpleasant save for the hostess. Most seemed wildly annoyed that patrons were there and it put a damper on the experience. Fabulous views though
Good service and food is not so bad as well. I had a buffet there with some friends. 3 drinks are included for 42 dollars. I only ate crabs , shrimps and tasty roastbeef..😊
Beware of this restaurant on any type of holiday. Even if you make a reservation you will wait, they overbook all the holidays. I made a reservation for Thanksgiving and waited for half an hour. My reservation had a request for a window table, and after waiting, we were led to a table that was placed IN the aisle right in front of the kitchen entrance. I asked the manager to be reseated, and after waiting for a new table we were given a wonderful table by the window. After being seated we were put into the akward position of being met by the occupants of the table who had been getting there food at the buffet. Not a very comfortable situation. We then waited at the bar for another new table. Initially I could see the manager working on finding us a table. This seemed to slacken and he began helping other customers. We were obviously forgotten. We made arrangements over the phone to go to Buca Di Bepo in San Francisco. On the way out the door I stopped to talk to the manager, his initial response was to ask if we had taken the original table in the aisle. I told him no, that we had been waiting for him, and that we were now leaving. He made NO apologies, but just stood there and did not even respond. This can be a really good restaurant, but they are horrible on any type of holiday. While I have memories going back many years here I will not be returning. They have given up on the customer looking to get as many bookings as possible. A hint...if you make a reservation here, make it for a large group so you can get a decent table. If you are only two...or a smaller group they will put you in some inconvenient places. Buca De Bepo in San Francisco put us in a large table without reservations, even though they eventually filled up. We were treated like royalty! The food is much better than HS Lordships, and they bring it to your table. They saved our Thanksgiving!
In not sure what has happened but the place is a mess.. carpets are dirty, old and smelly, bathrooms need a gut job. The tables are broken down, leaning, and unstable which makes me question the structure, and staff drinks on the job. Very unprofessional!! Someone call Bar Rescue please a little TLC can go a long way.
Unfortunately it closed in 2018 due to city not renewing the lease
Very poor service and bad Food! We made a reservation for 7 pm to celebrate our sons 16th birthday. We got there at 7pm and were told that we will be seated in 15-20 minutes. At 7.30pm we inquired and were told again 10 more minutes. Finally, we were seated at 7.45pm. The food was bad and expensive!! Would not recommend to anyone.
if u like tons of bad food and even worse service, this place is amazing! you even get 2 glasses of crappy champagne (or mimosas OMG!!). sushi?! oh my!! u can tell they pulled the seafood in fresh straight from the bay, like 2-3 weeks ago and then Sysco delivered it nice and frozen. the roast beef and turkey clearly came from the frozen food section of last chance food emporium - perfectly warmed and chewy. enjoy!!! 2 adults + 1 kid only $101 - thanks for circling the gratuity part on the bill i totally wasn't even thinking about that part... Wow.
I was treated very poorly by the management staff at this restaurant on 06/24/18 a.m. brunch. If HS Lordships were to stay in business another one hundred years, I would never step foot in there. It is not hard to guess why it is going out of business.
Absolutely the most horrendous food available in the bay area. Disgusting buffets, low quality ingredients, no creativity, noisy, serve-yourself, poor service, ugh. This place has become the subject of jokes amongst friends who have experienced it about how bad something can possibly be... nothing could be as bad as this place. Their high ratings on some other services are so unbelievable that I can't help but wonder if they dpn't seed them with falsely positive reviews. In a word: nasty. Go anywhere else. Dennys. IHOP. They'll be better. and that is saying not much.
Me and my wife went back to celebrate our 10 year anniversary last night. Since we were married there. The service was slow and there was not a lot of people in the restaurant. When we were seated I could not help but notice that the carpet next to our table had a fairly large rip in it. As I was waiting for our meals to come , witch took 45 min to get. I went to us the men’s room. It was the most unpleasant rest room I have been in. The stall panels were all rusted and the floors were not cleaned. For the price of the meals I was truly disappointed with the service.
