The fish and chips are to die for. They have different genres of music depending on the day of the week. So make sure you check your calendar and to find out what is you feel like dancing to.

You gotta love The Plough; great atmosphere, excellent bar food, solid beer selection, incredible live music, and perfectly left-leaning revolutionary wall art. It is my go-to place for a North Coast Beliner Weisse, chili-cheese fries, and inspiration!

Starry Plough is a historical landmark of Berkeley that offers a variety of cultural events all week long. Go to the Monday Ceili nights and you’ll see folk musicians and dancers who have been playing for 20+ years. People are kind and inclusive and passionate there. The bar owner has a huge heart and has preserved the spirit there that has given so much to the community. They have tea, beer, and pub food that is all good quality and affordable. I hope they stay open forever. It’s a real gem of the Bay Area.

The Starry Plough located at Berkeley, California is an Irish Pub serving Irish cuisine and variety of Ales. The evenings are vibrant with the local people playing Irish folk music. We enjoyed an evening with family relishing Hand Cut Fries with Red Ale and Ginger Ale. The Irish music being played with traditional instruments was a pleasure to watch and listen. The staff are helpful and great. The ambience and decor are unique.

What a great Irish Pub, thanks for supporting live music! The garlic fries are huge and delicious, real garlic not just garlic oil like other places.

My visit to the starry plow was a great experience they had a DJ playing and it was an open atmosphere they had good drinks on tap alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I ordered the Irish mac and cheese and the fried chicken sandwich non spicy with garlic fries and everything was delicious

came here on a monday night for free group Irish dancing class. It was very packed but I think that made it better because half the people have no clue what they're doing and the other half is ok and the other quarter is actually good and can teach those that are learning. Super friendly environment and a great little spot. Yummy chicken tenders and fun live Irish dancing music.

Great vibes, friendly people, fun events! The Irish dance lessons are so fun- very beginner-friendly! I’d definitely come back to try more. Also love the values of this place- really a space for community, art, and advocating for liberation- so cool to see and get to support. Edit: I had the chance to watch a Wednesday poetry slam and it was Amazing! The featured poet, Brandon Leake, had WON America’s got talent so I knew he’d be amazing but every other poet there held their own and delivered such awesome, raw performances! I felt very lucky to have spontaneously dropped by that day. ALSO the root beer or soda floats that they do are super yummy if you have a big sweet tooth like me or don’t drink alcohol but still want to support an awesome establishment.

I was there for the Irish Ceilidh dancing every Monday night. Lesson for beginners, some dances for beginners and for advanced. Everyone welcome. Wonderful live music. This is the real traditional Irish dance. They have their own style, like a village in County Clare in Ireland might have. They have been doing this at The Starry Plough for 50 years. And this is just the Monday night I am raving about. Check out their calendar for other music and events.

I don’t eat at the Starry Plough… I go there for the Sunday night Irish music jam sessions It’s been going on for decades. It is super amazing … Whether you are a Musician or you are there to just listen. Sunday night… Especially between 7 and 8 PM… Is a special time to be there. On Monday, there is a great Irish band on stage and lively Irish dancing in the room. It’s like being transported to Dublin! A very special place!

This is a great Irish pub. The employees are cheerful and friendly and very helpful. The atmosphere is fun and lively. There is plenty of seating. They have some outdoor seating too. They have dartboards. They have a live band that is really good. I highly recommend the Starry Plough.

I traveled and lived around the world and The Starry Plough in Berkeley, California is my favorite Irish Pub … ever! … Family owned and operated since 1973 … now in its 3rd generation … this is the place for family, friends and community. Live Music Thursday-Friday-Saturday, Poetry Slam, Open Mic, Monday Irish Dance Lessons, on Sunday Live Irish Music Session … Often with Colorful Weekend Day Events For Children, Parents and Care Givers/Receivers. The food is delicious and is served until 10:00pm. Corned Beef Cabbage a Pub staple, Hamburgers, Shepherds Pie, Chicken Wings, Fish & Chips, Sandwiches, Fries and Garlic Fries, Homemade Soups, Salads … Root Beer Float … and of course; Draft Beers, Wines, Ciders, Irish Specials and Non-Alcoholic Beers, Sodas, Juices, Iced Tea, Tea & Coffee. The place was fun :) There was a little concert with a lot of instruments inside and that was giving quite a vibe to the whole experience. Great choice of beers - also Guinness+ cider! - and interesting choice of food. Chicken wings were very tasty. I saw on the menu that they do the desserts with beers, which should be quite an experience.

Wow, I tried their Irish Kelly dancing class on Monday, and it was so much fun 😄. If you want to try something new and good beer and some Irish cuisine, this is a nice place. It's really accessible on BART, too.

I have been to The Starry Plough Pub during several Saint Patrick's Day Celebrations. This is an Irish bar with reasonable prices (for this day and age). I was able to find a dry cider--yum! What a celebration this 2023 Saint Paytrick Day was!!! It was standing room only. They had Irish bands, Irish dancers, and it was an open mike for singing Irish songs. They offer foods like Corned Beef and Cabbage, Fish and Chips, and Bacon Cheseburger, but we had dinner before going there. They looked good, though. The Starry Plough is a hangout for Irish and Irish wanna bes. They have live music, Irish music, and even Irish dancing.

We went for the Monday night Ceili dancing! (Not for the food). Service was great and very welcoming atmosphere. Folks new to Irish dancing: jump in the line and jump along with everyone else! There are beginner classes around 7pm, band starts playing a little before 9pm. Beginners warmly welcomed, and folks are very kind.

Friendly but very slow staff. Food is serviceable. Music performances are lovely. 2019/09 update: - the staff is still very friendly and I like them quite a bit. +1 more star for their world class vegetarian burger. The chef that created it, Alura, is a local. The aioli is stellar, and the patty definitely craveworthy.

The 1 bar tender is also tasked with.. hosting too? Tonight my friend and I were told to vacate our table by him to make room immediately after we finished our food. Yet everyone else was able to stay at their tables with only drinks. Even the two white women at the table next to us (🙃)! After he only took our table he went back behind the bar. We left. We spent $30 to get in and $80 at the bar (tip incuded!) and i wont ever go back.

I ordered a beer and the barista served a small amount of beer from the tap and he pretended to fill up the glass from it but he grabbed a pitcher full of beer that was under the tap and he poured to fill up the glass.i was pissed of knowing that i'm a regular client for this pub and i always tip for each service. Really disappointed.

Beginner’s Square Dancing Night I stopped here with some friends and really felt uncomfortable the whole time. Everyone was giving me weirdddd energy and staring. I asked one of my friends (white) if they felt similar they said they didn’t know what I was talking about. Let me phrase it like this, do you see me staring at every white person that enters a free salsa dancing class? No. Some of you just need to check yourself 😔💔
