Bayou on 8th Birmingham Reviews
My coworkers wanted to try this place so we came out today for our monthly luncheon. Heads up, EVERYONE loved their meals (and we all got different meals so that's saying a lot). I got the red bean express with a lemonade and some beignets. Not only did the entire meal have nice presentation just like in the photos but it tasted equally as amazing as it looked coming out. Everything was hot, fresh and adequately seasoned. The portions, for the lunch size and price were more than substantial. As I write this, I'm eating the other half of my lunch for dinner! They didn't have the cornbread at first but before we were leaving James (our insanely awesome waiter) came and brought us fresh cornbread in to-go boxes that the chef had just made. He actually gave us garlic bread in lieu of the cornbread on TOP of the cornbread he later brought out. I can't say enough about James and his wonderful demeanor. He was so gregarious and knowledgeable about the dishes, giving us sound advice to make a choice since we none had been there before. Give that man a SUBSTANTIAL raise. He was working alone when it picked up as we were leaving so I know he had a lot on his plate, yet he was still efficient and made us feel right at home. I love that the front has windows throughout cause I love to people watch anywhere we eat out. 😊 The wings with the meal... I can't sing their praises enough. I usually don't even like wings cause I'm lazy and hate sifting through all the bones for just a little bit of meat, but maaaaaaannnn.... I slicked those bones CLEAN, that meat was so juicy and tender. 🤣 We're definitely gonna put this place back in the rotation for the future. Finally, if you have a group of 6 or more, I believe, they do charge a 20% (?) tip automatically, but hey. I loved the food and staff so much I tipped extra anyway. Got no issues tipping when the place is so great like this one was. Can't wait to try more in the future!
I really enjoyed my experience for brunch today. I had the fried fish basket with greens and red beans and rice. My husband had the lamb chops with dirty rice and okra. They have my favorite red beans and rice in the city. The service was spectacular. My servers name was Trish. She was excellent!
Came here during happy hour and every thing was great! The food was amazing and the drinks and hookah was great too! The staff greeted me as soon as I walked in and were very polite and helpful. Definitely 10/10!
This restaurant is the best. As I looked at the internet pics, I could taste the fish, red beans and rice. I will be giving you guys my future business. Im coming there.
Everything was good.
Let me first start off by saying “Thank you” for the love and support on my birthday! We love them and the food was chef kiss! 😘 I highly recommend and the customer service was top notch! I highly recommend them! See the pictures as proof you will not be disappointed! Tell them Missy sent you! 🥳💃🏿🥰❤️
The catfish beauty was beautifully prepared and delicious. The gator bites and okra was hot and seasoned to perfection. The sea and smoke was fresh and hot with just the right kick of spice. The manager and waitress were a delight. I thoroughly enjoyed my birthday night there. I can't wait to go back again
We went for brunch after church. I loved the atmosphere—very laid back with great a great DJ, great service, and the food was a chef’s kiss 😘 I look forward to going back again soon!
Everything was wonderful the flavor profiles were amazing. We got the gator and okra , sea and smoke, crawfish dip for appetizers I CAN’T STRESS ENOUGH AMAZING. Then we’re tried catfish beauty , shrimp and grits. I highly recommend you won’t be disappointed. That’s just the food, the atmosphere was so cute as well. Our server charde’ was amazing she was so attentive and recommended great choices on the menu.
Good vibes Good food Good drinks!!!! Went twice in one day …the red beans and corn bread was amazing!!! The chicken finger licking good… the adrenaline rush gave me the rush I need…. #heyaunties&uncles #10/10
I used to visit Creole Connection frequently and was sad when they closed. There is a new restaurant, under new ownership now, so I gave it a try. It did not disappoint! Now you can’t compare it to the old spot because this is something new for the city! I recommended the Bayou Belle for your cocktail and the crawfish iron skillet for your starter! The dishes are great for entrees as well but the Pasta is my favorite! The gumbo is amazing as well. The sea smoke to be exact. Check them out and tell them Vic the Crit sent you!
We went in for lunch today, and there was NO server, only the cook. However, Tez (the cook) made sure we were seated, brought us menus and drinks, took our order, cooked the food, and then served it to us. Big Shoutout to Tez! That man needs a raise for showing up and making it work solo.
Was here today with a very large group, more than 20+. They were able to accommodate the large group and service us all well. The food had a nice presentation, served hot and seasoned well. Can’t wait to visit again.
Love how the building was converted. Good atmosphere.
The food was delicious. I had the Bayou burger withe fish added. It was delicious the juice from the patty and the crunch from the fish was bar-non. The Philly cheese steak eggrolls were phenomenal. The fries and okra were seasoned with love. I didn't like the grits the had too much cheddar for me. But the macaroni and cheese was delicious. The service was great. The ambiance was well lite. Like a sports bar
The place is nice like the atmosphere the only thing is the music is a little loud but be jamming...and the hooka smoke bother me a little I guess because I don't smoke 😏
So I just got the shrimp and grits today and the shrimp was delicious but the grits were not. You can tell that the water wasn't seasoned. And even with the sauce, you need a little bit of seasoning in that grit water to help with that. Thank you guys for all your hard work. But I would really fix that.
Vibe was nice. I ordered oxtail. They didn't cut the fat off them b4 they cooked them. They were full of fat so they looked big but they wasn't once I pulled the fat off. Rice was delicious. Drink was good. My hooka was terrible, looked terrible and I asked twice for my hooka to get checked. It never did. Over $100 spent. My husband had wings they were good but FULL of grease. That was our 1st visit next time we know wat not to get. But vibe and do were a hit.
Had lunch with 2 coworkers. We used to frequent this spot when it was Creole Connection. This is NOT Creole Connection. The food was good, but not THAT good for what you get and what you pay. The catfish was very small, thin, and not very meaty. Coke was flat and watered down. It was probably poured from a warm can over the tiny cup full of ice. There are no drink refills. Service was a little slow and there's a 10% House Fee added to your bill. We decided we probably won't be back.
The food wasn't that good. I had fried green tomatoes. They were not good. I ordered chicken and waffles. The waffles were average. The syrup was not warm, no butter. Chicken was good. I was expecting more from food quality. No powered sugar as mentioned on the menu. I was happy to support the busines, but it wasn't spectacular. The friend green tomatoes were small like what you would cook at home and not pay $12 for a restaurant. Those really can improve. Maybe I ordered the wrong items but I was limited to Sunday menu.
I ordered my food online and it said it would take 10-20 minutes. Went to go pick it up after about 15 minutes and they said it would be a few more minutes a few more minutes turned into over 45 minutes of waiting for food. I only ordered three entrées which was catfish, a burger and four wings with some sides(fries, okra and dirty rice). We finally got the food and it was not good. Some of it was salty and some of it was unseasoned. They weren’t busy and there weren’t a lot of people in the restaurant and I am thoroughly disappointed because I have seen this restaurant online and wanted to support this business. I won’t be back.
