Jinsei Sushi Birmingham Reviews
My wife and I enjoy going to Jinsei! It's a great restaurant to unwind and decompress after work! Laid back, friendly staff, and fantastic sushi!
Great experience! They even brought me trainer chopsticks after my bf made fun of me. 👍🏼
Best restaurant in Birmingham! Excellent food, service and atmosphere. The owner, Abe, is a great guy and is usually there to welcome you at the door. He and his staff take pride in providing the best experience possible and serving the best sushi in town. Try the Kodoma Tuna, Bangkok roll, sliders, Brussels in eel sauce and any dessert they have that day! They are all amazing!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Every time I dine at Jinsei I have had the pleasure of being served by Kevin. I can’t say enough about what a fantastic experience I have every single time! Kevin is always smiling and has a genuine enthusiasm that instantly made us feel welcome. Not only is Kevin a master at providing excellent service, but his friendly demeanor and engaging conversation always makes our dining experience even more enjoyable. It’s rare to find someone who combines professionalism with such a personable touch. If you’re at Jinsei Sushi, ask for Kevin! His outstanding service will elevate your meal and leave you wanting to return again and again. Thank you, Kevin, for making our visits so memorable!
"If you're ever at Jinsei and feeling adventurous, do what we did for my 39th birthday: let your server take the reins! Our server, Kevin, was a true gem. We asked him to curate our entire meal, and he absolutely knocked it out of the park. Each dish he brought out was a testament to Jinsei's amazing menu and quality. Kevin's intuitive understanding of our preferences, combined with his fantastic recommendations, made for a truly seamless and delicious dining experience. Jinsei is a must-visit, and if you get Kevin, consider yourself lucky!"
Wow was Jinsei a treat! Friend and I stopped by Saturday night for dinner. We were there late around 8 and it was getting dark, but it felt like a very upscale establishment lol. We splurged on calamari and three sushi roles. The calamari was light and well cooked, though the dipping sauce was a hot chili oil instead of regular sauce for tempura. It was good but if I go again I’d definitely skip on the app and go straight for the rolls because that’s where they shined. The rolls are very inspired and interesting. Meat was tender. The Hamajiku (rum raisins, fig sauce) was like no sushi roll I’ve ever tried. Pretty good. But we loved the Sachihoko (eel/unagi) and the Hatsu (Kobe beef). They had more complex flavors that worked so well together, both rolls were incredible! We liked the Hatsu slightly more :) Food came quickly and service was great. Definitely recommend!
My favorite sushi restaurant ever (for the past 5 years). They never fail to amaze me with their creative approach to making traditional sushi and sashimi dishes come alive in their own unique way. The whole flounder is incredible, the hamachi kama is the best I’ve had in a long time and you have to try their spin on grilled edamame. Ask for Mitchell, the GM/bartender and he will take great care of you!
I love this place so much. It’s a super small, intimate restaurant with amazing sushi. The river rock dish is a must. They bring you out raw beef, sesame oil, and a scorching hot rock, and you cook the meat yourself. It’s so cool! Also, the Kadoma Tuna dish is one of my favorite dishes. Don’t let the jalapeños scare you away from this dish, they are sliced so thin that it adds just a hint of heat.
Visited Jinsei on Valentine's Day after having a horrible experience elsewhere. I ordered the Kadoma Tuna and a Bubblegum Roll. Both were excellent as always. I decided to top off my meal with a Strawberry Mojito. I absolutely LOVE this place and have never had a bad experience. The ambiance is superb.
First time going. Friend and I jumped in the car to play lottery and ended up in Alabama for a day trip. The first stop was here, and it was happy hour, and I had chicken tempura and shrimp tempura roll and a mixed margarita with watermelon and pineapple delicious. They use fresh fruit! Yummy 😋.
3/28/2025 Saturday: This started as a 4-star review but there's room for improvement. Located in Homewood City Hall plaza, the restaurant was easy to find. The hostess gave me the option of where I'd like to sit. I chose a quiet corner with only one couple seated a row over. I asked for a paper menu instead of the QR code. Water arrived before the waitress. My waitress was "G." She pkaced my drink order (which came before I could order my meal). She was patient and explained the various menu options very well. After I placed my drink (Blackberry Mojito) and menu order, I went to the restroom. It was clean but was only one room/one stall. The restroom was spacious and clean with a place to put my bag down. My drink came with light ice as requested. I'm not a fan of spicy sushi but the spice on the Spiro roll was minimal (I'm still not a fan of chili powder on sushi). The nigiri was fresh and average sized. "G" stopped by my table a few times but let me work on my phone. When another couple was seated next to me (I was at a double table), she was equally courteous towards them . I would suggest that when possible, not to place your back (particularly when buttocks are table height) towards a customer (she could have spoke to them from the other side of their table and not squeezed between tables). "G" checked to see if I wanted dessert and explained the options well. Payment is by machine, which impersonalizes the process. Also, there is no cash discount/no card fees. I tapped "No tip" (I always tip in cash) when I paid by card and asked for a paper receipt. "G" said "Ok" but must have seen the "No Tip" because when she brought the receipt back she barely spoke, didn't look at me, and MIGHT have said "Thank you" as her spin was so quick it left me confused. As I was getting up from the table, "G" returned to the couple's table and addressed them from the other side so I could get out. I had to speak to her in order to place her tip in her apron. She said "Thank you" and I exited the restaurant.
Waiter was openly hostile, disrespectful, condescending and degrading as he openly mocked me to the point of breaking words into syllables he would sounded out to me as I was was a child while glaring at me with disgust. I stood up said : I want none of this I am leaving. My husband said : yes, go now I will meet you at the car. He was given the bill, signed it, left zero tip and included a note about the rudeness. We will never go back nor will we spend any time wondering “why” he was so hateful. It is not my responsibility to account for the pathology of a toxic person. It is my responsibility to reject it, remove myself from it and walk on. Period.
☹️I love Japanese food so much, tried out all the JP restaurants in Eugene, and have to say this one is the worst restaurant I’ve ever met. The stuff are not fresh in Chirashi, and it’s not worth $15. I can’t even finish this small bowl. Otherwise the rainbow sushi is not sushi, it should be called fish+rice!
