Small mom and pop diner. Great food. Great staffs. Philly cheesesteak- beef was soft and flavorful. Trash can with a lid (2 eggs over easy) - comes with spicy sausages. Philly omelette- very good but I wish I order it with 2 eggs over easy or sunny side up instead. Loved the biscuit. Also very but but the Philly cheesesteak and Trash Can with a lid stole the thunder. So so good, we return the next day. And I got the Trash can with a lid with both spicy sausages and Philly cheese. Yummy!

I'd lived in the Bham area for nearly a decade and had always heard this place was a staple. Unfortunately, a lot of "staples," especially once the original owner passes away, tend to be lackluster, so I didn't bother going. Man, am I glad I finally did. The lady who waited on me was so sweet. She even got me a cup of decaf (trying to cut down on caffeine). I got the omelette with feta, jalapeño, green peppers, etc., and it was extraordinary for a "greasy spoon." The hashbrowns were cooked to perfection-- not too crunchy, not too soft. Juuuuuust right. The Maple St Biscuit down the road could learn a thing or two about biscuit-making, ironically enough, from this joint. They were so flaky and fluffy!! The only even remotely bad thing I could say is parking is difficult most times of the day, but not at 9:30AM on a Thursday! Can't wait to go back and try more delicious breakfasts in the future!

Decided to try Salem's after reading about it in a column by Sean of the South. What a fantastic place! Small little hole in the wall with a big personality. The staff were incredibly welcoming and the vibe was like hanging out with friends and family. Will definitely recommend and hope to find myself back soon :)

The Philly cheesesteak and banana pudding are the best ever! I’ve been coming here for years and I never leave disappointed or hungry! Love getting to see Wayne too!

Small mom and pop type restaurant. We went during breakfast. We had a great experience! The service and food were great! It’s also in a great area for walking and shopping. I had half a trash can. My wife had a ham and cheese omelette. Both were delicious. I want to go back during lunch and try a Philly cheesesteak! Definitely worth trying!

It's a small place. The biscuits tasted microwaved, but the gravy was good. The eggs were just right. Hashbrowns were tasty. I usually order well done bacon but it was very well done so if you like well done maybe don't mention it. 😉 Staff was friendly but table was dirty when we got there and she made very little effort to clean it. I was surprised that crumbs were still all over the table when she left. But that aside, service was fine. We may be back, but it probably won't be a regular spot for us.

This felt like walking into my grandmothers house for breakfast! This was freaking amazing! Top notch service with southern hospitality. An amazing, relaxed atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. And some of THE BEST cooking in Bham 😍🖤 this place is a MUST-TRY ~ROTN Reviews on all platforms🖤

It’s a small diner with amazing people that work here. They were so sweet to my husband and I … felt like they knew us. Owner came from behind the counter to make himself known and when we left he remembered our names. I love places like this. We will be back. The Philly-chicken was superb along with the onion rings… my husband enjoyed his meal as well. Small hole in the wall but the best customer service and the meal was amazing! ❤️

Great little hole in the wall diner in downtown Homewood. Somewhat limited seating inside, and it can get busy quickly. Staff is very friendly, though, and our food was ready in good time even at lunchtime on a busy Saturday. Ordered the Philly cheesesteak, a burger, and a side of fruit salad. All were high quality, and the cheesesteak was especially good. Fries are crinkle cut and onion rings are battered, for those with preferences regarding those things.

These guys make some delicious food and keep that old school diner feel at the front. This place has been here for decades and still keeps up the quality. It's simple it's what you want from a diner and it's a great time. Just be patient when it's busy, it's a small place and they are doing a lot.

Came for lunch one day and had a slaw dog and a Philly steak; both were delicious, so I came back to try the breakfast! I got The Trashcan with the lid(eggs). This place is a hidden gem. Nothing bad on the menu!

My first Philly cheese steak. And great service from Wayne, Willie and the crew here. Highly recommend 👍 Update: took a coworker here for lunch Fri, he agreed best cheese steak he's ever had! If "Jack & Diane" lived in BHM, they'd get chili dogs from Wayne... way better than the Tastee-Freeze. 😉

It's a small, traditional Diner, cozy, interesting, the owner knows almost everyone, usually people wait if they more than 2 people. I got my delicious Philly sandwich and a little salad, and the best part, they didn't put Ranch on, instead, they just gave me ranch separate, so I can put as much as I want :)

A simple diner that serves well prepared, freshly cooked, simple dishes. The grits are in my top ten and if consistency prevails, will earn a medal rank. Service and atmosphere is comparable to going home for the holidays. Highly recommended for an all-American experience. The reason I had to deduct a star is that the place could use some sprucing up.

Cool little spot. The food was good nothing superb or out of ordinary. The folks were nice. We had issues with reusing butter that went to the table, was unused, and then added back to the unused butter container. Watched same waitress drop paper wrapped straws and serve them to customers. I realize this may not be an issue for some. For me I know it's not good practice and gives me concern about what unhealthy practices might be happening that I dont see. So eat at your own risk.

This place is overall a great diner but they consistently over-charge when you go to pay. It seems like they updated their prices in the pos system but not the menu. At least that's the charitable way of putting it without calling it a flat out scam. Really frustrating to have the experience be good all the way until the end when, like clockwork, you end up in a frustrating situation.

We ordered take out for meetings at work today. I ordered the chef’s salad for the first time. See photo - this is all I got for $13.00. This is not a chef salad. Chef Salads have lettuce, hard boiled eggs, variety of meats, cheese, tomato’s and cucumbers. I received lettuce, tomato’s and a little sliced ham cut up., and bacon for $13.00 That’s it! Very disappointed! They should list what they put on their salads if they don’t plan to make them like the rest of the world does.
