Shu Shop was a great experience, especially for my first time in Alabama. I was staying nearby at the Hilton in Birmingham (Magic City), and this spot ended up being perfect for a relaxed night out!! The three servers we interacted with were all super easy to talk to and made the experience feel welcoming and unpretentious… I lived in Japan for a year, and the izakaya vibe here really hit. It was cozy, social, and great for conversation. We ended up doing three rounds of sake and honestly could’ve stayed longer just chatting. If I had one small note, it’s that I wish some of the food portions were a bit more filling! That said, the atmosphere more than made up for it, and it’s an awesome place to catch up with friends, talk, and enjoy good drinks. Would definitely come back.

My favorite restaurant in Bham and it’s not even close. I remember they had a lobster ramen on special there a while back and it is literally one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. Love Shu Shop, we’re so lucky to have such a fabulous little spot.

Always a go to spot for when all other “high-end” places are closed. I came here when it first opened years ago and it was my favorite place in Birmingham, and the atmosphere brought back many pleasant memories. Either the food isn’t as good or my pallet has changed. Over all, a must for bham.

Shu Shop delivers a moody, hip izakaya experience in Birmingham. Selection of ramens, small plates and cocktails. Place has wide selection of alcohol and service was great and quick. I took the edamame and tuna tataki and both were great and delicious. Food portions was on the smaller side and prices on the higher end but still a fun spot for a night out. Love the decor. Definitely a great place to take a date. I recommend 👌

One of my favorite restaurants in downtown Birmingham. The ambiance is great, not noisy at all and with a very cool vibe. Service is top-notch and the food is amazing. The ramen is cooked to perfection with layers of flavor.

Japanese comfort food hidden in the south with a great staff and service. Highlights -tako puppies (delicious take on the traditional takoyaki using hush puppie dough) -soy butter scallops (amazing seared scallops in a delicious soy butter. Great texture and flavor) -tonkatsu ramen (amazing broth with great noodles and pork it all came together in a delicious bowl of comfort)

Shu Shop is a great ramen restaurant in downtown Birmingham. The ramen was delicious and the cocktails were very good. I usually don’t like ginger in my drinks but the hostess insisted so I tried it and I was pleased I did. The only thing I can take away from service is that we were told 15-20 minute wait but it ended up being 60-65 minutes. The inside had very nice mood lighting. And the staff were very nice and professional. I will def be coming back for more!

This place is amazing and inviting. The Saki was really light and delicious. The kimchi was extremely fresh and flavorful with a nice little kick. I definitely suggest eating it with the seasoned rice. The spicy ramen was also very tasty as the pork had a delicious smoked taste to it. The service was quick and engaging, and the atmosphere is perfect for a quaint date night. If you haven’t been here yet, what are you doing?

One of the better places in the US for Ramen. The seafood ramen was outstanding. The Japanese snapper was delicious. They had great Japanese beverage offerings. The sweet and sour brussel sprouts are clearly a winner. Great service from the bar and really liked the vibe of the place.

The most stylish restaurant in Birmingham right now, without a doubt. One of the best cocktails I've ever had, the strawberry vodka/pink peppercorn concoction. Every dish we ordered was divine in both presentation and flavor. Service was fast and friendly. Ambience is dark and cozy. A can't-miss in Birmingham.

This is definitely one of the best ramen spots in the Birmingham metro area. On this trip we had the spicy miso ramen, the tonkotsu ramen, the brussel sprouts, and edamame. Our bowls were great. The only issue is the pork was a little tougher than we were expecting. The Brussel sprouts were definitely the highlight. If you are a Brussels fan, these were some of my favorites. The edamame was average. I usually prefer my edamame served warm with some salt, and maybe a little spice. These were served cold with no seasoning. All and all, it’s definitely a repeat spot.

I ordered the ramen. It was just okay. But it’s a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. They have much better options if you eat meat but for vegetarian & vegan dishes, it is extremely limited.

4.5 over all. Have you ever been in the middle of Birmingham Alabama and thought I could really go for a ramen bowl right now? Neither had I but I stumbled across this place and decided to try it out. I had their tonkotsu ramen (pork ramen) with an added egg and garlic oil. It was a solid four out of five. There take on takoyaki was also pretty good. More hush-puppy like than normal takoyaki but that's how they advertise it. Tako Puppies. Their sashimi plate was okay. The atmosphere in this place was great. Very cool hole in the wall feel. A heads up to anyone under 21: They check IDs at the door but I also got there very late at night and the front part of the restaurant is predominantly a bar with some booths on the right. What you can't see from the front door is that the restaurant extends back a long way. If you happen to be in the area it's definitely worth a try.

The Shu Shop has a smallish and delicious menu. This is one of my favorite places to eat before catching a show at the Lyric or Alabama Theatres. My husband loved the vegetarian ramen option and I enjoyed the braised short ribs small plate. We have eaten here several times in the past and the food and drinks have been good every time. Please note, in my opinion, the Shu Shop is a bar with awesome food. The place has more of a bar feel than a restaurant feel. Although, I typically go for the food.

Came in for a late dinner. Ordered multiple things from the menu. Ordered the pups, they were horrible. Strange bitter taste, we both tried to eat them but they were definitely offensive to our palate. I told the waitress multiple times that we did not like them and couldn’t eat them. She never had a response. I spoke with the host about the taste. He then said he would have the manager to come by. The manager never came to the table! He sent a message by the server that it wouldn’t be removed from the check and he was sorry that it wasn’t good. Horrible customer service!!!! Never mind all the other items that we purchased! NEVER AGAIN!!!! Cook good food and maybe this won’t be an issue!

I have ate at this restaurant about 5 times now and NEVER had an issue with food and service. I do get this one particular waitress that is not really mean nor friendly and it’s off putting. Imagine trying to eat your food and you kind of have someone watching and hovering over you? I’ve had her twice and each time I felt weird. Particularly today, I ordered the peach ice cream and matcha cookies and I did not like it because the cookies were hard, had no flavor and the icecream had a very strong alcoholic flavor that left a BAD TASTE in my mouth, it just doesn’t work well. . I was not a fan of this because it was not mentioned in the description. I asked for it to be removed because I did not not eat it and I was told “ item can’t be removed because you do not like it” and I found it to be a very weird policy especially if you see the whole item is untouched and customer asked for check to pay for the rest of the items BUT that one. I will continue to come here but I am not a fan of some of the waitress/waiter’s attitude. IAN is a great waiter!! He was so kind to me and my friends whenever we got assigned to him! The crab claws and spicy miso ramen TASTE SO GREAT THOUGH! 🩷

Heard a lot about this place and did give it a try. The food was amazing but wish the waitress be more polite. We did order for the hot tea and it wasn’t good, which we. Had asked to see if they can take it back. It was a blunt NO , stating it would only be possible if it were not prepared well. The portions were a bit small compared to regular other ramen places. Over all a good place could be must better with service.

Stopped in for dinner after getting a recommendation to eat here for dinner. We must have gone on a bad day because they were sold out of almost everything. The service was amazing along with the vibe. Definitely a chill bar with mood lighting. The food we tried was good. The drinks were amazing. Definitely worth another try! #aushianasaysyes

I was invited here for my birthday dinner, and I will say overall I had a decent experience. I ate the seafood Ramen 🍜 which was pretty good but my husband on the other hand wasn't very satisfied with his plate although he did get a small rib plate it was mostly bone and not nearly enough meat. I like the dark and intimate aesthetic but a few more lights wouldn't hurt, especially to be able to see the menu at least. Also, the cocktails are good they're just more expensive than they're worth.

Loved the lively atmosphere and drinks at Shu Shop Birmingham! Definitely a great place to hang out for cocktails, though the food didn’t quite live up to the vibe.

Would be super cool if they took time to note that it is 21 and older. Most people search for restaurants on maps. and don’t visit the website or socials. A little effort could save time and frustration. Looks like a cool place but I can’t tell you.
