Hidden Gem great service great food
This place is Awesome the food is fantastic they go out of their way to make my son pancakes at 7 p.m. lol waitresses r Excellent. The Bar drinks are Very very good. Great place to eat with family or date night or maybe just happy hour.
We ordered 2 tortas 1 Asada & 1 Barbacoa with a side of large fries, 2 bean & beans and a large lemonade. Food was delicious! I will return. Highly recommended food was authentic, fast and friendly service!
I ordered the Vallarta plate! It was excellent! I hadn't had anything new lately, but this really delighted my taste buds! Absolutely delicious 🤤!7
stopped by here when getting our car rental from Hertz and this place was amazing! we had their Birria quesadillas, tacos, and burritos. all of it was amazing and wish we had food like this back up in the midwest. the service was great and food served fast. also let me not forget to mention that their Horchata was off the chain amazinng. just fair warning though when we went the server didn't know english so if you don't know spanish you might have a bit of trouble ordering. Regardless totally worth checking out for some amazing mexican food in San Antonio!
I cannot even explain how good this place is! Our waiter was very professional during our entire stay. Super friendly and very dutiful. The food has that authentic flavor I desperately seek in Mexican style plates! I completely recommend! Make sure you're in a complete empty tummy cause plates are as big as Texas!
Staff was very friendly. The order was promptly served and hot. I will definitely recommend this establishment to my friends and family.
Nice clean place..Nice atmosphere..Wait staff very friendly and courteous...Food is good and portions are big. Our favorite is the Shrimp Cocktail and their salads are awsome.. Their location is great cause we are up and down on Military Drive . They have a nice bar and light music can be heard. If you are lucky and pick a day where musicians pop in and play a few songs..wow what a treat..
My husband and I wanted to try a different Mexican restaurant and boy they did not disappoint! The food was amazing! We each got a burrito. We asked for no beans. Whenever we order burrito we always say no beans, so we usually end up with a small burrito. But not this place, those burritos were big and the carne asada was amazing! Best burritos in San Antonio! We will be returning soon. You won't be disappointed!!! Thank you la Perla, can't wait to try your other food 😋. Price was cheap for the burritos.
I was there for dinner last night the cold seafood in a molcajete was great but the pork taco al pastor was disgusting rare meat and had nerves and fat also rare, and the taco de lengua was worst they reheat the meat on the microwave for way extra time that the meat look like dark color chicharron de lengua dry and stiff, definitely at night the have an idiot in the kitchen not a professional cook, mango margarita was great cold beer great chips and salsa , you can fix this problem very easy fire the cook thanks
Food here is good and plentiful for the most part (chicken fajitas only get two stars but the beef fajitas make up for it) and the atmosphere in festive. The frozen margaritas are fire and the Mexican style shrimp is double fire.
Good food, large selection of menu items. Large portions. Didn't wait long for order to hit table. Everything we ordered was delicious . Only dislike was the barbacoa, was loaded with fat and very greasy. Soaked through tortilla. Great drinks at bar.
Ordered the cheese enchiladas. They tasted amazing, beans tasted amazing, rice was great. There's also so many other great looking options to choose from. Definitely try!
One of the best authentic Mexican restaurants I have been to in San Antonio. The quality and taste of their food puts them above everybody else. Highly recommend!!
Excellent service by Antonio at the bar. He was very personable and made some amazing margaritas. The shredded chicken Burrito was delicious as well as the el pastor tacos. The menu is very fairly priced. Thank you!
Honestly I’ve been going here for about 3 or 4 years in a row and have brought large groups with me because of how much I like this place! Bartender does an amazing job and the food is always great and considering no one’s ever complained in the groups I have brought to join me I can say this place is definitely killin it!
Very good authentic mexican food. The service is quick and the servers very friendly.
I love this place so much! The food is always perfect! I have not had a dish I didn't like. Portions are huge. My go to are the chicken fajita nachos, omgosh yum!! My bf loves the drinks, too shelf stuff, and Budweiser on draft which he says is rare lol
Love their service and Tortilla Soup.
I usually go for breakfast there. All the breakfast plates are awesome and delicious. Also they give big portions, I'm so full after. And it's not expensive compared to other restaurants near by.
Mini tacos are so good they have a happy hour for the beer and margaritas, definitely a must stop restaurant. My family and I go at least once a week. The prices are good too, I highly recommend this place 🙂
Visited on a Sunday at lunch time and as expected good crowd. No wait time but after ordering our lunch for 4 took about 30 minutes to get our food. But worth the wait. Our order 2 burritos wich ladies said was very good with lots of big chunks of meat. Us men had the beef salad bowl with beef fajitas which were large pieces and very, very good. Will order again.
Great portions and delicious food. The decor is also amazing. I had the shrimp cocktail (huge) and a potato and egg taco (also huge) and could not finish my meal. I got my son a side of fries for less than 2$ and the plate was huge. Definitely better than any place I've been to in Sugar Land.
The food is delicious and the staff is friendly. Nice clean restrooms end tables kept clean as well. There's a large variety of adult beverages and spirits. This is a great place for family or just to come have a few drinks. All in all I rate this restaurant with 2 thumbs up! 👍👍!
This was our second trip to La Perla. The plates are full of authentic Mexican flavorful food. The staff is friendly and conscientious of their patrons. Very helpful. They are also bilingual being able to assist everyone. The restaurant offers booths and tables in the main seating area. There is a sectioned off bar and dining area with a large TV.
The charro beans were absolutely amazing. The Jalisco Burrito and Beef Tips were among the best we have ever enjoyed in San Antonio, where the competition is tough because Tex-Mex restaurants are numerous. This restaurant is often very crowded . Which only proves how good the food is, and how popular people in the area known for Tex-Mex find this restaurant.
I had the menu done AWESOME my Wife likes it here too as I do always great food
The food is great, the service is very prompt. I'm wheelchair bound and the staff sees to it that I always have a great spot to pull my chair up to. All of the staff is very cordial and in the rare event that an order is wrong, they gladly replace it with the correct one. The bar makes awesome drinks and brings them to the table for you no problem. They're not watered down either. But my favorite thing? Absolutely delicious menudo every day of the week and the portions of it and everything else are amazing!! I highly recommend starting with the bean and cheese nachos! The prices are pretty decent and the daily specials are always something yummy.
Place is clean and peeps are friendly. Adriana was my waitress very nice. Had myself some chilaquiles with two eggs just the way I like them. She came around 3xasking if I needed anything even though she had many other tables. I recommend highly. Food was delicious along with coffee, water and some chips con salsa. Great 1st experience thank you
The food is always delicious and the wait staff is always attentive. We have been coming here for 5 years after arriving from Maui and always leave satisfied. The added value of the food being very affordable as well as not compromising on the flavor and quality is a big plus. My husband always gets the Fajitas flameadas and I generally get the Botana plate but they also have delicious cheese enchiladas and tacos. Try it, you won't be disappointed.
Delicious food including their homemade corn and flour tortillas. The ambience was nice, there was a nice gentleman singing while we had lunch. Our waitress was friendly and provided great service. I really appreciate the affordable prices. Initially, came here after a friend recommended this restaurant and now I will definitely be telling my friends about this place as well!!
I ordered pastor taco and a pastor Gordita they both were so tasty!! Really recommend if you like pastor tacos. We were given baskets of chips and sides of salsa free upon being seated. Our drink order was taken after awhile they came then we placed our food order, the service from our server was less than stellar I understand we have bad days so I won’t dock the restaurant a star for that. Because honestly it’s not fair to the restaurant to leave a less than 5 star for one discrepancy . I would definitely visit again. Ice tea was perfect honestly no complaints outside of the server seemingly bothered by us being there. But food was great drinks were great and atmosphere was nice. Other stuff we ordered was cheese enchilada plate , fajita taco , Dino nuggets , enchiladas verdes , and a plate of fries.
The food is really good. Very good selection of drinks at the bar. Our waitress was great. Excellent location also. Not far from interstates 35 or 37.
Great food I would say mid range in pricing so not the cheapest but not the most expensive but the variety is pretty outstanding which can cause some indecisiveness as to going for a seafood/fish platter or a Mexican plate. So go hungry but not to the point of starvation cause you'll want everything. Awesome margaritas and Pina coladas most def a must have.
We've had lunch here twice. Both times the waitresses were friendly and attentive. They have huge portion sizes. The food has been delicious. They have daily specials that are a great deal. They have a good drink menu. I'm looking forward to going back to try their pina colada.
Went there for dinner with my BEAUTIFUL date. And I must say it was a very enjoyable time.. Food was out on a timely manner and very satisfied with the portions. Prices were not to bad either. $50 for the two of us with the tip. 4 stars because we had to keep flagging down the wait staff or getting up to find them. Other then that very good !!!..
The food is good here 👌🙌 definitely come and try it out I came on a Sunday and I got enchiladas verdes de pollo and they were really good. My fiancé loved that they had tvs so he was watching his game here the football game so we’re definitely coming back here. Our waitress was really nice she was attentive with us and my family members……. they also have a bar that we haven’t tried but that’s another story right, we can try it later on. Also They have homemade tortillas here too. 🙌👌
This has quickly become one of my newest favorite places to eat. The staff are quick to check on you and are very aware if you need refills... something very appreciated. The food taste fresh everytime I've been and I especially love the way the cut their fajita.
Chorizo queso was super greasy and cheese chewy and heavy on the palate. The guacamole on plate was more like a sauce and had no guacamole flavor. On a good note chicken enchiladas were well seasoned. Waitress very nice.
Love their fajitas! They are very tender and seasoned well. Their margaritas are excellent! My husband and I go her every other week just to enjoy their margaritas and beer!
Food was good. Tortilla soup
It is kinda small. We visited after church with a party of 14, and we took about 1½ to sit down. However, the food came out fast. The food was great, chips were not so good.
Very Nice Place, is affiliated with the Perla by Military Dr & S Presa location however I find the prices a bit higher but tasting better & different selections as well. A plus is the bar they have and TV screens throughout . Very tasty food , the chips & salsa was also different BUT mouth watering delicious. A must try . Only problems I found was men's restroom door gets stuck & you have to push ,a problem if in a wheelchair , also door is in front of sinks , another problem if someone is there & someone comes in , hopefully not in a wheelchair .
Pretty nice place! Pretty good Mexican food with a wide range of desserts! Cheesecakes are my favorite! Food: 7/10 Not a huge fan of their food but they are good for a Mexican restaurants standard. Pretty fresh and always hot Service: 9/10 Had good service, our waitress was kind and on top of our refills so props to her! Atmosphere: 8/10 Not the best looking interior but it’s still pretty nice on the inside. They also do live music and open mic karaoke so that’s a cool bonus!
Food was okay. Service needs to be better. Waitress looked like she didn't want to be there. Took forever to come take our order. Refills took forever. My order was wrong but got fixed. The original down by Dairy Queen does much better.
Came back to try dinner after having a real good breakfast meal. Well I guess I'll have to give them the benefit of the doubt, ordered pork chop dinner Pork chops were flavorful I can't say the same for the beans or rice they were lukewarm at best. My Tortilla were hard tasted old, one had a hole and the other one had a burnt mark. I'm a restaurantur love food but I'll call the kettle black when needed
Ordered sampler. The chicken needed seasoning in the flautas & I would've preferred to have no sauce on wings...
We ordered La Parilla for two. It comes with the meat, chicken, shrimp, and sausage. It was sauteed in onions tomatoes and nopalitos. It had a good taste, but the nopales pieces were large chucks. Slice ones would have been better. We only got two shrimp. Now I will give credit for the charro beans.they were hot and tasty. The chicken fajitas were extremely dry.
In this town tortillas are a big deal and these are a miss. Food was tasty and the portions with our order were huge . Tea good salsa good tortillas not so good.
The food was good. Fajitas were a little tough, would avoid. The salsas were amazing. Waitress can by the table twice, once to take our order & again for our drinks & food. Did not get drinks before meal.
They didn't cook the food fresh the taco was hard and there was not that much beans just a spoon.. but I came back to replace my order the lady was nice to remake it but of course like all business with employees that like to be spiteful make you wait when it's there fault. All in all this made my mind up about this location I stopped going after a while cause they kept burning there beans but next time I'm gonna listen to the wife 😅🙏✌️
The best thing here is the tea. And the service, the fajitas tasted old the tortillas were under cooked. Definitely do not recommend if you are looking for good Mexican food.
Update! They don't mix the bacon in the tacos anymore so no more flavor packed tacos. Just plain strip. No longer worth the drive for me. Best breakfast tacos in the city. No exaggeration. Haven't had the opportunity to try anything else.
When you get ready to pay ask for itemized bill first. They added a service charge and tbeir own gratuity before they handed me the bill. The ticket they handed me showed the total but not that they had added their tip. I paid another tip which added up to 25.00 in tip. My bill was only for $60. I wont be going back. Then you cant eat in peace. Someone is always trying to sell you something.
The only reason I go there is because I love the food. When I go there the workers in the drive thru, the servers and the people at the register are rude and have an attitude. They have horrible customer service
Horrible customer service had to ask to be served had multiple waitresses. Nobody wanted to come and service every time we ask for something they seem to have an attitude and walk away before I can finish what I needed will not be coming back to this place and I definitely don’t recommend. Maybe I wasn’t Mexican enough
Bought a tortilla soup and it literally only had tortilla chips, no chicken, no rice, nothing! I called and the lady who answered said I have to return the soup in order for them to replace it, I had to take the soup back. I said okay but I couldn’t go back that day. She said she found my ticket and would leave it at the register so I could go another day. I went two days later and someone else said I needed my ticket and they couldn’t do anything about it. Wasted gas and money on water with tortillas and cilantro. Never going back.
I've been here many times but unfortunately I will not be going again. On a previous visit our stake was really bad it literally tasted rotten!! The waitress apologized and changed our dish to something else, we let it go and went back again two weeks later to have the same issue, this time the chicken on the flauta plate was again bad and the rice on the other plates too, my 6yr old daughter, my mom and myself got stomach sick all day just by having a few bites until realized that something was not tasting good. They did offer to get something else but decided to just leave. We are sorry to let this place go for good.
Went through drive thru order 2 large chicken soups cause I was so sick I thought one for today n I have the other for tomorrow. I got home I the soup was all mushy n chicken was brown like if it was from days ago. Just when I looked at it it looked so gross. I didn't call or I didn't go back because I was so sick. I can't believe this place has lowered their values to serving nasty old food. I will be telling everyone I know not to go to this place..
First time here so I ordered a large shrimp cocktail it has a lot of shrimp but it lacked of the rest of the ingredients I mean it lacked, hardly any cilantro onion the tomato was hard no jalapeño very little avocado very bland and barely any juice like really so I paid 12.99 for a bowl of shrimp. I know I won’t be coming back if this was so bland I don’t want to image how gross the other food is
The good: The sweet tea The Jamaica The chips The Bad: The service The salsa served with the chips The caldo was horrible The tacos were Luke warm The restrooms were disgusting, had a fella enjoying the evening with alcoholic beverages and decided to paint the toilet with his alcohol infused vomit. Will never go back there again. They gave me the wrong ticket, was about $20.00 more than my original ticket. * I will give credit to the bar tender, she actually gave us refills and took care of us when the original waitress we had was never to be found after she noticed that my glass had been empty for about 20 minutes.
Iv always had a great time at this location. Usually lunch breakfast and dinner But today at 8:15pm 10/30/2021 The Waitress decide to .. ignore me not just me only .. I felt And notice 3 waitress didn’t acknowledge me .How are is it to receive good customer service.. I wasn’t demanding service Or with any bad attitude.. And I always pay fair tips . I know the morning crews … But today was just a bad day for me I’m deeply sorry I’m not that person to low ball with 2 or 3 dollars tips 3 waitress decided to mistakenly mistreat me and other customers . all I notice was one waitress or 2 doing there job. And 2 other were cleaning But one ignore more and served the big groups which I assume they did because of a big tip And ignore me And those by the register kept staring at me ugly refusing to serve me and just continue Talking for 8 minutes Please review the camera footage And other customers were asking for more drinks .. politely
Asked for a glass of water and water tasted like bleach. Let the waitress know and she said that's why people use the lime to cover the flavor difference. A few seconds later I hear another customer complain about the water as well same problem. She blames the water machine. A few minutes later another customer complained same problem and then another. Meat also tasted funny and couldn't eat it. I paid and left. No sorry for the food or service won't return. Health department needs to stop by.
I've gone here before multiple times, it was good. I went yesterday and ordered cheese enchiladas and my wife ordered cheese enchiladas verdes. My wife's food was cold to the point where the cheese on the inside was cold. I got sick. Never going back again. Hit or miss but when it's a miss its horrible. I was really sick.
Dirty place ... The food was Terrible. Bacon like rubber and had a rotten smell. Migas tasted like they were made earlier and not fresh 😕 . I used to like coming here, but no more.
I thought I found a good restaurant, to get an order of flautas for my family and myself. I was WRONG! When I took a bite into my last flauta, I felt something poke the inside of my mouth! It was an entire toothpick snapped in half! My husband called the restaurant to let them know. The girl who answered the phone said that they use toothpicks to hold the taquitos in place when frying them, but this was inside of the flauta! It was NOT visable whatsoever!
I occasionally come here to enjoy tacos, but today I had a really unpleasant experience. The tacos I ordered had a strong taste of what seemed like Fabuloso or some other cleaning product. It’s hard to tell if the taste was from actual chemicals or if the smell from cleaning products nearby somehow transferred to the food, but either way, it was overwhelming and made the tacos inedible. Selling food that tastes like chemicals is unacceptable, and I’m seriously concerned about how this could have happened.
The waitress cashier was rude obnoxious and another waitress was the one that took the order. The order was a breakfast 2 breakfast tortas and coffee that is all. I figured about $18.00 dollars or so. My nephew want to pay with a $20 and said I need more money. I said for what and I went to go check and the waitress/cashier Judy or Adrianna what ever said I ordered 2 ultimate breakfast tortas. I said no I did not even see that on the menu and she responded BUT YOU ATE IT…I said excuse me where is you manager and she said she is off and I asked and tomorrow and she also responded she will be here after 4pm. I was so upset and discussed with the whole matter I was going to eat there every Sunday with my sisters and I told that horrible cashier that that was the last time she would see my money. Waitress was totally rude and horrible so sorry that you even have an ugly person like that working for you. No respect for the elder…bad, bad
We come here all the time. Service has declined. Our order was not correct. We asked to seperate salad off the plate, we got our breakfast plate to have to have hair in it. The enchiladas were hard and no cheese on top. Would love to poat the pics but it doesnt allow it on this review.
As a food inspector I was forced to report this place. It is clear that they add fresh ingredients to old caldo. This is a clear violation of the health food code.
I hate it when things like this happen. The food was very good. The service was nice and the restaurant had a comfortable atmosphere. We went there last night for dinner. Neither of us had eaten anything since breakfast. All of last night and this morning my wife has been in pain with constant diarrhea. She has a cast-iron stomach and never gets food poisoning. She got the quesadilla plate with beef fajita. Whether it was food contamination or service hygiene, something needs to be addressed. I wish this didn’t happen because we really liked it there. We will never be back.
2nd time here and still food sucks! They say fajita plate on special yet it’s not even fajitas it’s regular meat all dry and hard!!! Never again will I go back! One thing I did see was Favoritism to men if it’s a man they attend to them hand and foot but when it comes to women they don’t even come n ask if you need water, tea, etc we have to be going up to the counter to ask for a tea or water.
Enchiladas verdes were cold inside and out and tasted SOUR and BITTER. The al pastor was super sweet and bland. This place used to be decent.
We made the mistake in dining here. Had the Mexican plate and the beef enchiladas. The ground meat used in both the enchiladas and crispy taco tasted and smelled weird. It smelt like dog food and had that weird looking texture. After we finished our meal we started to have that horrible after taste. Even had acid reflux with those egg belches. Needless to say, we got extremely sick right away. I'm talking vomiting through both ends. x.x Never again.
Ordered a pork chop plate to go and received the most disgusting puddle of liquid in my food, drenched salad, and meat that tasted like fish. I imagine they are improperly storing their meats together or on top of each other. I’m from the neighborhood and I’ll never be back. Considering calling health inspector. Also, for clarity, the liquid is not the additional salsa that comes with this plate. That was served separately. See photos.
Erika apparently the manger in charge for the store was extremely rude and not professional at all.. the food is good don’t get me wrong, but not enough to deal with that bad service or bad employees like that…
Our server was super sweet so it makes me sad to have to leave a bad review but the carne smelt old like feet & the chori queso was also funky smelling we couldnt finish our food and had to send it back :(. It was so bad it had my boyfriend puking in the parking lot! The limonada & chips y salsa was probably the only good part :(. Very unfortunate first and probably last time coming here. Staff was super sweet and understanding tho.
Burnt torta bread after telling them I want it warm not burned because last three times it was burnt. Since then I go to the other la Perla down the street on se military and they do it right. I am out of hospital so didn’t feel like driving longer way so I gave them another try… they burnt my torta bread more than ever just cause I asked for it not to be burnt. Never again I called and the manager had the employee’s back not mine. They said sorry for misunderstanding I said I told her more than once not burnt.. she did it on purpose because this is the most burnt it has ver been .
Never had an experience as this... Sent my ENTIRE meal, drink and food, back. Overcooked. And the drink... had lemonade, tasted like it was mixed with something spoiled. Thank goodness I at least ordered rice and beans on the side, because the chicken didn't come with it. That's all I ate. Rice and bean with tortillas. I wasn't even asked if I wanted to order something else. Also, my waitress changed constantly. I wasn't even rude. I know they go through enough to deal with rude customers, so I wasn't going to add to it, but why change like 3 times? Food wasn't even all that good. At best a 3 of 5. Edible, but not the best. I tried giving this place a chance, but this was the last straw. Time and time again, the food was just not it. Hope it gets better in the future.
seriously Im super disappointed..in this place (drive thru) I ordered a torta of Bistec with only avocado and yellow cheese & I ended up getting a torta of al pastor with lettuce, tomato and sour cream (which im allergic to). I called spoke to ANTONIO poor customer service i don't know how he’s in charge i told him i couldn’t take the torta back cause I live far that i’ll send him a picture and he said to save it & bring it tomorrow can you believe it?! no dinner for me. insane smh make sure you check you food before you leave
20 minutes passed since we order drinks, I had to get up to ho get my drink from the bar but the waiter saw me and came to bring it to my table. The ceviche had like a pound of Serrano peppers, my wife doesn't eat picante and she was not enjoying that ceviche at all. I think the Serrano peppers should be served on the side. The waiter didn't go back to the table after she brought the food, we got the ticket at the register.
