We finally made it to Gupshup for my husband’s birthday weekend and it absolutely did not disappoint. We’ve been wanting to try this place for a while, and even though it was freezing outside, we braved the weather and are so glad we did. The service was outstanding, and our server’s sense of humor made the night even more enjoyable. He also gave great recommendations, and I truly appreciated that he didn’t mock me for not liking cilantro. So many Indian restaurants make a joke out of that, which feels demeaning especially since it’s genetic, not a personal choice. It was refreshing to be treated with respect. The spice levels were perfect - balanced, bold, and not watered down or “westernized”. The food felt authentic and thoughtfully prepared. The chili mango lassi was a brilliant twist on a classic, and the jackfruit tacos hit the spot. The tadka daal and paneer were both perfectly made - comforting, rich, and full of flavor. We also tried the dahi sev puri, which I found a bit dense for my liking, but my husband loved the thick yogurt and puri. We also ordered the green chili laccha paratha and the onion chili cheese kulcha - the kulcha was our favorite (we had a stare down on who got the last piece). Even the dessert was fantastic. Usually I’m too full to enjoy dessert, but this one wasn’t overly sweet, and the rose and lychee flavors complemented each other so well. Overall, Gupshup is everything we hoped it would be - delicious, authentic, and fun. We’ll definitely be back! Might even have to order carry out from there tonight to warm us up from this -12 degrees!

GupShup is such a fun and vibrant place. Yes, it’s a bit on the pricey side, but the flavors and presentation really stand out. I loved the Bombay sandwich. The quantity was small but it honestly felt like proper Bombay street style, which made it feel authentic. The paneer cheese rolls and jackfruit pull tacos are a must try. Both were packed with flavor and really well done. The butter chicken wings were another highlight. So good and perfectly cooked. The lychee rabadi dessert was amazing. The sweetness was balanced just right and topped with pistachios, dried rose petals, and fresh lychees. It all came together beautifully and was such a satisfying way to end the meal. Hospitality was great and the staff were amazing. Glen was our host and gave excellent suggestions. The overall vibe of the place is lively and stylish. Would definitely love to go back and try their dinner menu next time.

Dinner at GupShup was superb. As my guest was delayed, I ordered a mango lassi which was adorned with tiny flowers. Natalya had not eaten at a fine dining Indian restaurant and she was admiring the decor and the lighting. As a vegetarian, she ordered the Paneer Saag but thought it was tofu which Indian restaurants don't use. The menu has many tempting choices and I wanted to eat everything! Dahi Sev Puri considered street food came first. Pretty to behold. The puris shattered quickly so it's best to try and put the whole in one's mouth. Creamy and flavorful. Chicken Tikka and Laccha Paratha were my choices. Even though there was no gravy, the chicken was tender and oozing with spices and made each bite feel like I was in Mumbai. Natalya took one half of the paratha which she realized made her dish tastier. Kulfi Falooda was the dessert I chose and it was a joy to behold. The mélange of rich colors and the taste was spectacular. Even Natalya found it delicious and this was her first one. Siddish, our server was professional and kind. GupShup has been open for seven years and I feel sad that it took me so long to eat here. I can't wait to return for more stellar food. The prices here are high but the quality and authenticity is incredible despite the fact that they label themselves as offering fusion cuisine. Highly recommended.

THE best Indian restaurant I’ve been to in NYC. Indian flavors that can be enjoyed by both desis and foreigners. Their butter chicken is better than Gymkhana in London. Lamb biryani is so yum and so as their Kulfi falooda…. 🥘🥘🍨🍨🍨💕💕

Our first time at Gupshup and we had a wonderful experience! Great food and service provided by Rahmat. The chef even came out for meet and greets - which gave a personal touch! Thank you for a stellar first time experience - particularly, the presentation and bold flavors of the bone marrow and kulcha dish!!

While I was visiting NYC & was in the neighborhood, I stopped by at Gupshup for drinks. Restaurant is nice & clean with friendly & welcoming staff. I was at the bar table & enjoyed "My Friend Ballu" & "Paan Pe Raag" cocktail with fried Chicken in small plates. Chicken was made perfect, tasty & juicy. I loved "My Friend Ballu" which is basically very nicely made Old Fashioned, but tastes very unique. While talking with very friendly bar Tenders, they explained me the whole process, how the preparation of ingredients for this cocktail takes place, every day. Great job Gupshup team.

Great food and excellent service! Tried their chicken tikka, butter chicken wings, the old Delhi style butter chicken, onion cheese kulcha and butter garlic naan. Loved everything!! Another amazing thing is that the chef himself visits each table for feedback. Highly recommended!

A wonderful friend decided to book a brunch reservation here. If you love the spicy foods and can handle it - you must come! Unfortunately for us, even at the mildest spicyness request, that was our limit apparently - BUT let me tell you everything was delicious and flavorful, so we would definitely come again if we are in the area. (We will just remember to bring extra tissues.) The most surprising thing was that the Ghost Chili House Chutney was not as spicy as we thought it would be and it quickly became one of our favorites along with the rest of the House Chutneys to dip the masala fries into or eat it with assortment of other things we had at the table. The Butter Masala Paneer was delicious but I did order it with least amount of spiciness possible. I found it absolutely delightfully delicious however my nose did not and quickly ran out of my personal set of tissues. I'm still trying to figure out what type of spices and heat levels I can handle and expand on it, so this was a great experience overall. We also ordered chai and you must try it here if you like the type that's not heavily thick or milky. We ended up ordering chai twice as a result through out dining experience. The staff here are wonderful and knowledgeable and try very hard to accomodate requests regarding spice levels and food recommendations and any allergies.

We got the last minute reservation and chef Zaheer is such an amazing person. He made us felt as we are at his home. He is so down to earth and humble. Food was amazing, we got grill sizzler for 2 and I have not seen that big size of Tiger Shrimp anywhere. The Lucknow Biryani was perfect taste not spicy but flavorful. It was our anniversary so Chef complimented us with dessert and it was top notch. Gajar halwa with kulfi. I would definitely visit in future to try few more items. You will not be disappointed with this place. Give it a try.

Great food and service! Everything ordered was absolutely delicious. Price can be a bit high but this is a more upscale dining experience. Definitely recommend for a girls night out or birthday event, great for a casual brunch too! The Halwa a La Mode was one of the best desserts I’ve tried!

Delicious food! Must have a reservation for far in advance. Staff here is very nice and even the chef paid a visit. Food was phenomenal. We went with the suggestions that our waiter recommended and it was all so amazing. Pineapple and paneer was delicious. The corn was also delicious. MURGH MALAI TIKKA chicken was also good! All three came out together and worked perfectly together. Absolutely delicious. After that we had the fries, butter chicken and rice + naan. Super delicious. A fantastic meal! I love how they have a ton of sauce with the butter chicken so it’s perfect for naan/fries to dip. 10/10 would recommend. Excited to go back!

Such a fantastic experience at this upscale Indian restaurant in the city. You have to order the Dahi ka Kebab and the Old Delhi Butter chicken!! But honestly everything we ordered was flavorful, elevated and perfectly curated. The staff and chef were kind and attentive to all of our needs - including my nephews food sensitivities and allergies. The decor is moody and vibrant - very well done design. Highly recommend this spot!

We had an absolute blast in GupShup! Parking was easy to find which was a big plus! We loved the interior. Food can take a little while to come because it’s fairly busy place! The vegetarian options were limited but they were really standout! The curries and dals were really flavorful and high quality Dahi k kebab and lychee rabdi are a must try! We are also looking forward to try jackfruit tacos, golgappa and tandoori paneer!

For amazing Indian food in the union square area this is the spot. This spot is ideal for small groups of friends or date night with that special someone who enjoys Indian food vibes were great. Staff was friendly bathrooms were clean and the chef came by to greet us and as us how our meal was, amazing experience. Did their restaurant week menu which did not disappoint. Highlights focusing on the two main dishes lamb was one and butter chicken was the other. Both were with tons of flavor a bit of a kick that just kept you wanting more and the naan was a perfect combo to soak up all the sauces. Dessert was also great and really hit the nail on the head, without being too sweet!

Been on the Beli hit list for some time now - traditional Indian restaurant in Union Square neighborhood of NYC. The interior is super vibey, lots of wall art classic to the Indian subcontinent. Restaurant is two levels, we were seated upstairs and it felt very cozy. They have a giant mural of a Bengal tiger named Shere Khan so obviously it made sense for us to eat here. For appetizers we ordered the Dahi Sev Puri which looked like a traditional “gol gappa/pani puri” but instead was filled with a very flavorful yogurt. We also got the Malai tikka which was served with pickled onions and green chutney - a 10/10 for sure. For the mains, we ordered the traditional lamb shank nihari which was full of flavor and had various spices infused. Main gripe about this dish was the lamb had a little too much fat in it, and the dish was served lukewarm. We also ordered the bone marrow which was served with a stuffed naan (mushroom). The server brought out a blow torch and cooked the bone marrow in front of us which was a cool show, but this dish was more of a gimmick. Would not get again. The mushroom naan was pretty good though. Main feedback is that the temperature on these dishes needs to be higher when they are brought out of the kitchen. Overall: 7/10

We have been here for dinner yesterday night everything was so good we loved goat Sukka , chicken tikka and keema pav . All the 3 a starters were really good. The lamb biryani was also mild tasty and flavourful. Cocktails were on point .Staff was really friendly .Last but no the least leachy dessert is a must try .We had a pretty good time here , we initially wanted to go to bungalow but came here at the last moment .It was good we would definitely recommend goat sukka and chicken tikka .About food here we can sense the freshness of ingredients . In and around nyc this is a good stop with flexible street parking around.

Authentic, bold flavors. Viewed against lofty claims, the stylized pitch did not quite sweep us off the feet. Ambivalent impression, at best. Elements that enhanced the experience: Booking in advance eliminated waiting time; themed decor; spaced-out seating for ~100 on 2 floor levels, another 16 outdoors, weather permitting; appealing food presentation (including Bombay newsprint themed food basket liners); signature offerings in the menu (chilli infused mango lassi - ‘twas a nice variant!). Juju Beach Vada Pav, Kairi Panna were also noteworthy. It’s not cool that they don’t encourage kids below 12, don’t carry high chairs for infants, and define a squatting limit - an incongruity for “GupShup”; which translates to ‘chit-chat’, a place to lounge and socialize. Our 2:45 pm order was taken with a rider that kitchen takes a break in 15 minutes. Fair enough, staff needs to take rest and shifts rotate. But what if patrons have a follow-through request or want seconds? Which we did, but could not!! Gave a sense that they were obliging diners in this slot by squeezing them past timeline margins. Suggest booking timings be adjusted to keep patron checkout, not checkin, parameter in perspective. Street food should come in street food portions, not as a size-constricted Mumbai Masala Toast sandwich. Likewise, two lightweight pav (soft with crispy crust) were a stack short of what should’ve been appropriate for the sinfully creamy bhaji. We had to order reinforcements. They charged. Essentially, skimping in the guise of style. Didn’t help that menu item “Kokum Cola” - one of the reasons for our draw - was not available. And yes, parking is a problem. GupShup offers no comfort in that area.

The food was really good. The appetisers was amazing. Dahi Sev Puri had a nice refreshing taste. It was not a regular Mumbai style chat, but was really good. Chicken Tikka was really amazing. Perfectly tender and juicy. Definitely worth having it. Paneer cheese rolls was really good and flavorful. RAJASTHANI KADHI was really good and portion size. Achari Chicken was stand out. Nice taste and portion size. Perfectly flavored. Goat Dum Biryani was a let down. The goat was not well cooked and chewy. The flavors were missing. Would avoid. Nizaam's Haleem was really good. Worth trying. Sal was really good as well. Perfectly flavored. Overall a good visit.

This is one of the upscale Indian restaurants in Manhattan. We had a late dinner reservation around 10 p.m., but arrived about 40 minutes early, hoping they could seat us sooner. Luckily, the restaurant wasn’t too crowded, and they were kind enough to accommodate us right away. We were seated on the first floor, which also has a bar area—it was a bit lively and slightly loud, but still comfortable enough for conversation. The tables are placed fairly close together, so you can easily overhear nearby chatter, but it wasn’t a major issue. We started with the yogurt-filled dahi puri, a creative take on the classic North Indian street chaat. The crisp semolina shells were filled entirely with thick Greek-style yogurt, then topped with tangy tamarind-date chutney, pomegranate seeds, and cilantro. It looked beautiful but felt a little too yogurt-heavy. Traditionally, dahi puri includes some spicy mashed potatoes and onions inside, with yogurt added on top. This version leaned more toward a fusion mousse—interesting, but not quite authentic. Next came the char-grilled prawns, which turned out to be the highlight of the entire meal. These large river prawns were perfectly grilled, smoky, and bursting with flavor. The seasoning was spot-on, and the spicy chipotle-style dip on the side complemented them beautifully. We each had one, but honestly, we could’ve easily gone for more—they were that good. Definitely a must-try if you visit. For the main course, we originally wanted the biryani, but it was sold out. So we opted for chicken achari paired with a cheese-filled kulcha. The kulcha was rich and heavy, stuffed with mozzarella-like cheese that made it resemble a small pizza. The chicken achari was flavorful, with its signature pickle-style spice blend, and the boneless chicken thigh pieces were tender, though the dish overall didn’t stand out as much as the prawns. We ended with the carrot halwa ice cream, a unique fusion dessert that sounded intriguing but didn’t quite work for us. The ice cream itself wasn’t very sweet and had a slightly savory undertone, while the carrot halwa element gave off a somewhat oily aroma. It might have been an off day, but this particular dish just didn’t come together well. Overall, the restaurant offers an elevated Indian dining experience with some creative twists. While not every dish hit the mark, the char-grilled prawns were truly exceptional and worth returning for. A good spot to explore modern Indian flavors beyond the usual favorites.

Our first visit to GupShup during our trip in NYC, and we were glad we stopped by for dinner. We tried the vegetarian spread (starters, mains and dessert) and everything was delicious and filling. This is vegetarian-friendly restaurant with nice service. The restaurant looks stylish and clean. The restaurant is popular, so definitely book your table ahead of time! We will definitely come back again if we're in NYC again some day!

The restaurant looks great, and I was pleasantly surprised to find roadside parking easily available nearby — a big plus in NYC. It’s also kids-friendly, and I was able to get a reservation on the same day (Sunday evening), which was convenient. They have an impressive cocktail menu. My own drink wasn’t to my taste, but my friends and family really enjoyed theirs. The mango lassi, served in a beautiful copper cup, was a highlight. The menu itself isn’t huge, but it offers a good variety. For appetizers, we tried the sizzler and butter chicken wings — both were enjoyable. Unfortunately, all the biryanis were sold out, so we ordered Rajasthani Khadi, Achari Chicken, and Nizaam’s Haleem instead. The platter was underwhelming, so I’d recommend skipping that. The standout dishes were definitely the Achari Chicken and the Rajasthani Khadi — it was my first time having okra in khadi, and not only was the taste excellent, but the presentation was great too. The chef also surprised us with complimentary daal, which was a nice touch. Portion sizes were generous and enough for four adults and three kids. Overall, the preparation was good, though I’m not sure the price fully matches the taste considering the many dining options NYC has to offer. One suggestion: the restaurant should serve larger plates for the main course instead of the small appetizer plates they provided. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, plus a second-floor area. It’s both kids-friendly and wheelchair accessible. Overall: A stylish spot with great cocktails and a few standout dishes. Worth a try, especially if you’re looking for something different, but go in with the expectation that value for money might vary depending on what you order.

Food was aright, they have good creative cocktails. We ordered all vegetarian food like channa and kulcha, pulled jackfruit tacos, onion chilli cheese kulcha, avocado pomegranate raita and paneer butter masala. The restaurant has a charming vibe and the service was great! Paneer butter masala was alright, for a popular restaurant like Gupshup the quality of paneer disappointed my expectations.

This place seemed like all style and no substance as they put very little effort in the flavor of staple indian dishes. It was super crowded for a Wednesday night and I assumed all the hype was worth it but as the food came out, my expectations were humbled. Dahi sev puri had a filling of creamy dahi and absolutely very little sev. There was nothing else in the filling except dahi and some extremely spicy chutney. It felt inadequate for such a widely loved indian dish. Butter chicken wings were mildly warm and felt a bit stale. Honestly I’ve had better indianized wings in smaller joints. Same with butter chicken. They put pieces of boiled chicken ( literally just boiled as there was no flavor to the chicken pieces ) in the gravy and I couldn’t eat more than a small piece. We had to skip dessert after such an underwhelming meal. They have such great potential and nice ambience. I wish they focused on food a little more.

I recently dined at Gupshup and tried a mix of chaat, appetizers, and mains. Overall, it was a pleasant experience with a few standout dishes. I started with the Dahi Sev Puri (⭐ 4.5/5), which had a really interesting balance of sweet and spicy flavors. It was refreshing, well assembled, and definitely one of the highlights of the meal. The Butter Chicken Wings (⭐ 3.5/5) were good, but not exceptional. They were enjoyable and nicely cooked, though I felt they could have used a bit more punch in flavor to truly stand out. The Chicken Tikka (⭐ 4.5/5) was excellent. The meat was juicy, perfectly cooked, and the marinade was flavorful and well absorbed. Easily one of the best dishes I tried and highly recommended. The Achari Chicken (⭐ 3.5/5) was a bit disappointing compared to expectations. While achari dishes are usually tangy, sour, and pickle forward, here the dominant flavor was powdered coriander seeds (dhaniya), which felt overpowering and masked the traditional achari taste. I was pleasantly surprised by the Lucknow Chicken Biryani (⭐ 4/5). I didn’t expect it to be this good, but it really impressed me with its freshness and balanced flavors. I genuinely enjoyed it and would order it again. Lastly, the Garlic Naan felt bland, lacking both garlic and butter flavor, which was a miss considering how essential those elements are. Overall, Gupshup offers some really good dishes with a few areas for improvement. The chicken tikka and biryani are must tries, and with a little refinement in certain items, the experience could be even better. While the food is enjoyable, diners expecting strictly traditional, old school flavors might find a few dishes more on the milder or modern side.

Located in the heart of NYC, Gupshup is a restaurant with a reputation for excellence. However, my recent visit left me with mixed feelings. The menu, while straightforward, felt somewhat restricted. Our server was attentive, but not overly so, and we often had to flag them down for assistance. The standout dish for me was the paneer appetizer, which was flavorful and well-prepared. Unfortunately, the limited entree options didn't quite live up to my expectations.

This is a beautiful spot with a nice layout. They have two dining rooms on the ground floor and another one on the second floor and the overall ambiance feels upscale. The food itself was very good…

You have to wait an hour to get your food. Even that’s fine seeing they are actually busy but when you get cold food after that wait it’s not worth it. We ordered paneer cheese roll which was good . Don’t waste money on cocktails as they were average. We tried dirty pineapple and masala chai martini. Have mango lassi instead it was better. For main course we ordered daal makhni ,butter chickn with stuffed onion kulch and lucha prantha the food taste ok but don’t know what to rate my food coz it was cold. We didn’t care to complaint as we were fed up waiting and wanted to eat and leave.
