Mario's Bronx Reviews
I went with my girlfriend and we both enjoyed the food. She didn’t like my Penne Alla Vodka but she did enjoy her Alfredo. They had a love singer and a nice decor. I made a reservation since it was a Valentine’s date. The atmosphere was very nice and the lighting was good. I enjoyed her Alfredo too. I would recommend trying this spot out.
We had a wonderful time celebrating my mother's birthday and the food was delicious service was great Harley recommended
Like others have said - dining at Mario's is a step back in time! We stopped in after an afternoon at the NYBG. An old school red sauce joint, tableside singer included. Food was good. Calamari was delicious - very generous portion, perfect fry, served with a great marinara sauce. A different but equally delicious marinara accompanied the chicken parm, also very tasty. Alfredo pasta was just ok, but maybe my fault for straying from "red sauce". Service was mediocre. Very friendly, but took too long to get our appetizers, then entrees. We came at 5 PM (with a reservation) and the place was packed. Was also family friendly (especiallly at this hour), with a highchair, etc. Make a reservation if you can to avoid the long wait. I'd return!
Hi, this is STEVE from the North Bronx. My lady took me here for my birthday, which was on February 3. We went during the week. It was very quiet. The food was excellent. The waiter staff was very attentive. They didn’t have the heat on that was the only thing .but the food & everything else was great I guess because of not a lot of people wasn’t there at the restaurant at that time. Don’t know. but I definitely recommend it. I will go back again. .
Mario’s of Arthur Avenue—Where Time Stands Still and Service Means Something This place is old school in all the good ways. The waiter was exceptionally well-trained and provided a level of service that’s become virtually extinct in this city. It feels like peering through a window into an era when they had your table waiting and your favorite dish already on the way. They started us with a selection of olive oils and pickled carrots that were aggressively spicy in the best possible way—sharp, tangy, and unapologetic. I ordered the prosciutto and burrata to start, and it was delicious: paper-thin prosciutto, creamy burrata, simple and flawless. For the main, I took the server’s recommendation and went with the lasagna. Layers of perfectly cooked pasta, rich with flavor, nothing overwrought or trying too hard. The entire meal felt like being genuinely taken care of…an art form in itself. Mario’s isn’t chasing trends or trying to reinvent Italian food. It’s just doing what it’s always done, exceptionally well, with the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit. If you’re taking a trip to Arthur Ave in the Bronx, this is mandatory.
My first time here was absolutely incredible. Fried calamari and Mario's salad to start was insane. The best damn calamari ever and a perfect salad. The linguine alfredo was insane with 3 spoons of parmesan. We also had a wine from kosovo for under 50 bucks that was phenomenal. For desert the creme brulee cheesecake sealed the deal. Mario's is top 3 restaurants on the block guys. Hand down worth every penny. And the service was 10 out of 10 obviously. I didnt even mention the wster, bread and butter and this delicious seasoned sliced carrots they brought to the table before I could even look at the menu. If you need a place to enjoy and feel and eat like a king this is it.
I googled which restaurant on Arthur Ave sells stuffed artichokes.Mario’s stood out with the artichokes photo. I arrived when they opened the restaurant, around 11:30 AM. The moment, I read the menu, I remembered my ex mother in law’s lasagne. Mario’s lasagne is authentic Italian style. Vhuntermassage LLC
My husband surprised me with a visit to this delicious restaurant! It has an Old time Italian restaurant feel with lots of activity at all time. Somehow the waiters and waitresses are able to make each customer feel welcomed and well served. I love their manicotti with velvety thin pasta, melty ricotta, and delicious sauce. We enjoyed dessert too trying a new favorite of tartufo-a chocolate covered ball of Gelato with fudge in the middle. My husband had his old favorite, tiramasu, which had the perfect amount of coffee flavor with chocolate. A whipped cream topped cappuccino finished our meal and then we had to leave. We really appreciated the valet parking as finding a spot would have been impossible!
Great food, exceptional service and an overall wonderful experience! My husband and I are staying in manhattan for 3 days only, he’s a chef and we share a love for Italian cuisine and pasta. I did a lot of searching online for somewhere “New York Italian” authentic - understandably, little Italy in the Bronx was where we would go. I’m SO GLAD I chose Mario’s as our one-and-only this trip to NYC. The restaurant is warm and cozy, the staff - from young scholar checking coats to hostess to servers, the chef and singer/entertainer. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and the servers were so attentive and made sure we were enjoying everything. Perfect afternoon Sunday dinner for us. We will be back…. Anyone comparing restaurants, I can’t speak for others just yet but Mario’s was 10 out of 10 for us out of towners ❤️🍝
Such amazing service and when I say the food was great I really mean the food was to die for. SO SO GOOD! Our server chatted with us and gave us awesome recommendations of in housemade pastas and made the whole experience absolutely amazing, if you have a chance to eat here I would completely recommend it
It was like stepping back in time in an era of nostalgia and Italian food in an atmosphere of a time gone by with dim lit dining room, stories of stars visited and movie references. The visit here was an experience, the food is great, old school traditional sauces, which u can tell were homemade. The owner walked around greeted people had beautiful conversations gave us a little history Lesson about the neighbourhood and menu highlights.
Mario's has been a family tradition since the 1960s. I have fond memories of large family gatherings at this treasure of a restaurant since I was 8 or 9 years old! Mario's granddaughter almost always greets you at the door and makes sure that you're welcomed and cared for. Incredibly helpful and friendly! The wait staff is very knowledgeable and can't work any harder to make your time there unforgettably wonderful!! In the last few months, my girlfriend and I have been there several times and have chosen different dishes from their varied menu. Everything has always been prepared perfectly...so mouthwatering and delicious. I've had their stracciatella soup, which is incredible, as is their salmon, their pasta, and their chicken francese, to name a few. The bread basket is filled with amazingly tasty, crispy and soft sliced bread with oil or butter! Needless to say - desserts....just great!!! I love the tartufo, but they have a number of other terrific choices as well. And...coffee!! The interior is decorated with old-world paintings and soft lighting. Arthur Avenue is always busy, but they have a parking valet who takes care of your vehicle and makes sure it returns in perfect condition when you're ready to leave. Mario's is a special and lovely restaurant experience that we will continue to enjoy for years to come!!
My grandparents used to come here for date nights back in the day. My mother and I decided to make a trip to their old neighborhood and visit their favorite restaurant. It’s exactly as expected with beautiful low lights, comforting music, and delicious food. I highly recommend the penne alla vodka and any glass of red. The pasta is fresh and the bread is warm. Make sure to order a bit extra bread to get all the extra sauce. It’s worth it. We will definitely be back.
Big portions, friendly services, authentic Italian…. What’s not to like about this place? The bread was hot and fresh, the chicken parmigiana with spaghetti hit the spot and the tiramisu was light and airy. I loved the whole experience and they have complimentary parking. There is adequate outdoor seating too.
I had to take away one star for lack of seasoning everything needed salt which was slightly annoying! However my mom’s dish was perfect and I lovedddd the Cesar salad you can tell the dressing is made in house. My clams also weren’t that fresh had a funky taste I could finished them, we also loved the bread we got 2 round. The service was great we were ah party of 5 and we didn’t need for anything just napkins lol. This place is ah family style place quiet and quaint however it was packed on ah Saturday tables full people enjoying themselves. The drinks were also good the pear martini was my fave but it’s not pictured.
Not too bad, but had higher expectation since Mario’s had such a long legacy. The ravioli tasted a bit hard at edges and I noticed some part were still hard (not fully cooked or maybe defrosted? I’m not an expert) Workers weren’t rlly friendly when we were waiting to be seated. We had to flag down many workers for them to tell us to wait for the host. Overall, service was good but not worth the trek that we made just to get to Bronx little Italy
We made reservations last evening at Mario's which was recommended by friends. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED with my meal. My appetizer was fried calamari with marinara. The marinara was delicious so I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. The marinara had a SMOKY TASTE .... I DONT KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG, BUT I DID NOT EAT IT AND WILL NOT RETURN TO MARIO'S.
Horrible experience. Waited more than 45 minutes for one eggplant parmesan, and when it came, it was cold and tasted as if it had just been defrosted and tossed in the microwave. Restaurant was half empty, so why was the wait so long? Waiters were unfriendly and pushy for a tip. I waited 5 minutes at the entrance before anyone noticed me, and the owner seemed impolite and even a little racist. Now I can see why the nearby restaurants are always full except for this one. I will never come again, the prices were not worth the food and the service was awful.
