Ba Xuyên Brooklyn Reviews
This is the best neighborhood Banh Mi shop. My lover always gets the shredded chicken sandwich and orders one spicy for me, and gets one regular for himself. Great sandwich. I always end up just eating half, its alot of food, and he eats the other half. Ok, maybe 80% of the time. I do wish they had a spicier option, MORE SPICY PLEASE! They also do have some summer rolls, however with shrimp and pork, I pick out the pork and shrimp because I do not eat those and eat the rolls. Great bang for your buck.
Cash only. One of the best banh mi I've ever had, and I've only ever tried banh mi twice in my life. The banh mi even tastes good the next day after I shoved it into the microwave. They also take off the jalapeños if you ask for no spicy.
I live nearby, and after reading such great reviews, I’ve been looking forward to the day I try their bánh mì. Today was the day, and I purchased their popular combination #1 of various pork, and also purchased an egg roll. The sandwhich was phenomonal, the bread was truly perfect, never have I had a baguette so suited for a sandwhich before. Delightfully balanced with fillings and sauce. I look forward to returning to try other sandwiches and items, as well as reorder egg rolls. Note it is cash only.
Had an opportunity to dine with the family/ owners and it was a wholesome experience! They were most hospitable. The food and beverages were amazing, the preparation emaculate, the smiles genuine and the foot traffic - overstood. This place is not luxurious, but that's not of concern. We found it to be a comfy familial atmosphere, with a restroom, fresh cooked meals, and good products - especially the iced Vietnamese coffee. Hands down the best I've ever tasted. We'll be back!
Overall great place. Very simple, no frills, but the food is amazing. The Banh mis are thr best ive had and the pork, rice and salas is great as well. My only wish is that they had some more vegeterian options since apart from the egg banh mi, there is nothing else. The other thing would be accepting card payments. But overall great food, service and prices.
The kitchen creates memorable meals in a clean space. The flavor profiles here worked for me. The decor enhances your meal. The employees here truly care about your experience. Ba Xuyên willingly goes above and beyond.
Had the Chicken Fu bahn mi and it was the best mahn mi I've ever had. Super affordable (big sandwhich 8$, they also had rolls for a dollar). The ladies in here are so sweet and they sell lots of other prepared foods as well. I can't wait to go back for a shake another day !
I ordered the vegetable and egg bánh mì, and it was absolutely delicious. The bread was perfectly crusty, and the vegetables were so good. My only regret was that I didn't have enough cash on me for a shake (they are a cash-only establishment). I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try!
Small cash only banh mi shop that offers other vietnamese snacks and appetizers. Cold cut sandwich (#1) was authentic, had a nice balance of veggies + meat and vietnamese coffee was also noteworthy. For the food price and quality, it was worth the visit and deserves a comparison to Thanh Da next time im in the neighborhood.
Edit: came back for the food. Excellent banh mi #1. The bread is perfect, not too crispy or soft. Less crumbs and messy than other places. I would get very spicy next time. The #1 has 3 kinds of meats pate, ham, and BBQ pork. You can taste every ingredient. Not a fan of the fried spring rolls or the shrimp crepe. Very good Viet coffee. Lots of locals come here. Will be back for hot chocolate. The summer rolls is only $6 for 3.
Another cheap eat rec in 8 Avenue, Brooklyn. Ba Xuyên is a neighborhood favorite for affordable and homey vietnamese food. The shop is operated by some vietnamese aunties, serving a variety of banh mi, authentic street snacks and fruit shakes. I’ve already been there at least three times whenever I’m craving for banh mi or feeling broke. *Banh Mi Pate Thit Nguoi (Combination #1) Banh mi is priced up to $8 in good portion size and hearty fillings. Every banh mi has a base of cucumber, cilantro, pickled carrots and green pepper. My go-to banh mi order is the bestselling combination #1. It has ham, pork, pork teriyaki & BBQ with paté and butter. It is so filling that I can get two meals out of it. *Jackfruit Shake I can’t leave this place without getting their milkshake. They blend actual fruits into the shakes, giving it a natural and sweet flavor. They have tropical fruit flavors like lychee, taro, papaya and durian. I heard good things about their avocado shake, but I always stick to my favorite jackfruit shake.
Delicious food, fast service and friendly staff. This is my third time since finding them last week. Can’t recommend them enough and great value for money. I’ve had the number one, the tuna bahn mi, the escargot and fried noodles. The ice lemon pickle drink and Vietnamese coffee are great too. The lemon drink is sour and salty though so just beware it’s not for everyone. Everything has been so delicious.
Service was fast and there wasn’t a lot of people when I went so there was a lot of space. I order the grilled pork banh mi for 8 dollars which is very reasonable considering the size and flavors. The bread (assuming baguette) is nice and crispy exterior with a chewy interior. But it starts to cut the side of your mouth and makes it dry. The fillings flavors were very harmonized and well balanced but to have all of them together you gotta take a big bite because the meat is all the way inside while cilantro is in the outer layer. The flavors are very rich and have that sweet and sour taste in the sauce for the meat. Meat is also tender and is given in a fair amount. The vegetables are very fresh and the pepper gives it that extra spice which brings everything together. I believe the vegetables like cucumber may be pickled because the overall flavors are complex and deep. Closing statement: Bringing your own drink can help quench the dryness that the bread will give you.
I always love supporting the local shops This particular restaurant used to have two different locations they used to have a location right on 7th avenue 61st between 60th Street I've been supporting them for 20 years. Compare to how they make the sandwiches back then to now they skimp on so many things being partial Vietnamese, I can accept the fact that New York City banh mi uses Italians heroes rather than a baguette. myself You have put a sufficient around a meat they put like a thin slice of each oh I taste now is vegetable and bread they don't even take out the inside of the bread anymore like they used to. They stop giving the barbecue meat nem nuog A long time ago now they are skimping on the meat portions, I'm upset I can no longer come here and enjoy the sandwich like I used to. That old lady boss walks away when I tell them I know how your sandwich is used to taste compared to how it tastes now.
