What Customers Say About Bar Basic
Bar Basic is a reliable spot with great vibes, friendly staff (especially August and Kendall), and elevated bar food. Mai Tais on Tubular Tuesdays are a hit. Some find the tacos small for the price, and service can be inconsistent when busy.

Bar Basic Brooklyn Reviews
We did an impromptu stop here and what a pleasant surprise! The drinks were good and great ambience ! Foxy was our waitress and she is AWESOME!
The Eggs Benedict was the best my wife has ever had. I got the avocado toast scramble and it was outstanding. Their coffee was great -- all drip coffee is a well-made Americano..great brunch spot!
The food is fantastic. The pulled pork was succulent with a diverse palate of flavors. Good serving sizes especially the Salads. Excellent staff
Despite the strange Covid times, we were really excited to go sit outside at this cute spot for drinks — our server was extremely friendly and my dog joined us. We didn’t get to eat there but we had adult Capri suns — THEY DO THE TRICK! And it was very nice to feel somewhat normal again. Thanks Bar Basic!
OMG the food is soo good!! My friends and I went for brunch, we had food and drinks. Everything was great! The staff was attentive and energetic. I will definitely be going back to try out there lunch and dinner menu.
Great food, good drinks, and awesome atmosphere. They also have wifi and an awwwwwweeeeesome host - has super really nice and responsive. Try the cereal milk and the Totoro drinks! They also make a great old fashioned if you want a more traditional drink. The only knock I have is the food could be a little "hotter".... BUT that doesn't detract from the taste or the excellent dining/drinking experience.
Came here for lunch. They have a happy hour at the bar most of the day. The carnitas tacos were delicious, as was the queso dip. The place doesn't have AC though so it gets a little hot. That can be fixed with a beer!!
Nice, cosey, 'vibey' spot, nestled comfortably into north central Park Slope. Great drinks, great food, casual but modern/vibey atmosphere. Phenomenal service, owner/operator part of the in-house staff. Highly recommended!
Bar Basic is a lovely place to have a conversation over drinks and food . The music isn't too loud. They take classic favorites and elevate them by adding complexity to the flavors without pretentiousness found at establishments with the same concept.
Very friendly service. No drinks allowed on the patio yet, but when the weather is nice the front doors are open. The food was served to us so quickly you would think the chef was psychic.
Good place and good people. Thanks for the welcome.
Good vibes, good food. Service is always friendly. Nice spot for after-work dinner or drinks. The po'boy and chicken sandwich are worth trying.
After a lovely weekend in New York, this was the perfect place to stop for dinner before hitting the road. The service was great, food is delicious, and the ambiance could not be better! We'll be back!
Chicken burger was delicious, very tiny heat but not over powering. I want to try their tacos next time they looked good when they were walked by.
Absolutely one of the best delivery services. The Shrimp Po Boy sandwich with salad is FABULOUS!!! Good, healthy soup, as well. Kudos, Bar Basic!!!
Been here twice now. Solid cocktails and good nibbles (tacos are a great choice). My wife really likes the smoke and spicy mezcal paloma for summer evenings
Arrived for breakfast/brunch and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly we were seated and attended to. Our waiter greeted us with the warmest smile. After taking our drink requests, he reviewed Bar Basic most popular brunch items to include brief descriptions of them. We were given just enough time to look over the entire menu before he returned to take our orders. Everything on the menu read very appetizing. Ultimately I chose the Shrimp Gumbo. The best way to describe it are in the words of Rachael Ray who said, " it's like a party in my mouth." The dish was flavorful, not lacking anything that I could think of. The gumbo were thick and smooth as I like, the shrimp prepared perfectly! I have absolutely no complaints. My next visit will be next month to celebrate my father's birthday. Let's hope that he enjoys it as much as I did today.
Great spot for a good beer and southern food. My partner got the Texas Brisket sandwich and I got the friend chicken sandwich. Both were delicious! They also have healthier options which sound delicious like a tuna stuffed avocado. Will come back again!
Bar Basic is a neighborhood gem. I hosted my thirtieth birthday party on a Saturday night and they were so easy to communicate with (thanks Mike!) and very accommodating. I think we had way more people show up than anticipated and Bar Basic handled the crowd with grace. Drinks and food were delicious-especially loved the guacamole. Great ambience too, with warm lighting, fun wall decor, and music. Will definitely be back.
Bar Basic is THE BEST!! It's our go-to neighborhood spot for awesome food, great drinks, and the best service. The vibe is relaxed, laid back & Brooklyn cool. It's really one of the only places of its kind in the area. We recently had an engagement party there and the staff truly went above & beyond to make it an amazing day for us and our friends and family. We love it there, go support this place!!
Lovely spot! I was with a group that hosted an event in the backyard outdoor space. Staff were so friendly and efficient, and the food was DELICIOUS. They gave great pescatarian, vegetarian, and vegan options. And for those who like to drink things other than alcohol, they have a great menu of items like tea and PSL for that fall vibe. Highly recommend!
Food is honestly really good! I came for happy hour and got the chicken and vegetarian tacos along with the elote corn, all was amazing. The vegetarian taco is actually my favorite and the corn is out of this world!! I paired it alll with $7 mai Thai’s that were pretty strong. My only complaint is the girl who was the waitress/host/bartender wasn’t the best, she didn’t tell us about the happy hour and when we asked it was a big pause. Also had a “I don’t want to be here at all” attitude, but otherwise this will be go to spot.
We were walking by and stumbled on this place - happy we did! We had great service and good drinks. Lots of veg options. Really loved the flavor and look of the veg empanada appetizer! Our impossible burgers were superb and the tater tots perfect! Missed the espresso coffee, as the shut down their machine at 9:00pm. Will certainly return...
Delicious and great service. Our party of five tried the quinoa and kale salad, pulled pork sandwiches with a wonderful butternut squash soup and the side salad, and shrimp tacos. All perfectly composed. Even our picky preschooler loved his cheeseburger!
Excellent food!!! The vegetarian taco was incredible. Tons of vegetarian friendly options. Good drinks. Will definitely be back! Manager is on top of things. Thank you!
This is a hip place with a good selection of food and cocktails. I love the Ghibli theme on the drinks and with some of the artwork. I was pleasantly surprised with the size of my salad. Service was attentive and friendly. My boyfriend got a cookie to go and wouldn't stop talking about how gooey and perfect it was.
Sick spot, Best staff ever, they all rock. But Rosie rules.
Stopped in to this place and the food and drinks were so good. The service was also so great and workers were friendly. Would definitely come back again
Fantastic spot to hang out, the music isn’t too loud, and everyone is super friendly! My favorite place to meet a friend.
Had the classic burger with a Cinnamon 75 cocktail. Both were very good, I liked the atmosphere of the bar as well. Nice and helpful staff. Wish the bathroom felt a bit more private.
I visit often on my lunch hour and I have yet to be dissatisfied with a dish. The menu is pretty versatile and the chef(s) are great people. Compliments specifically to JB. I’d also like to say they have an amazing staff. Very welcoming and friendly. Definitely will continue to be a regular at this place.
This place is great! The food is always tasty and well prepared, the staff is very welcoming. It’s a great place for lunch or dinner or even a cute first date
I ordered online and I was not disappointed. Not a single item missed. Some of the food could use a pinch more salt but that’s just nitpicking at this point. Every food item was obviously fresh, and the iced tea was served in a cute pouch, even though it was delivery. Not a single complaint this was reasonably priced as well.
great atmosphere with reliable and food and service! staff was very friendly and accommodating. food was delicious- the shrimp tacos and guac were *chefs kiss* (honestly might've been the best guac i've had). would recommend checking out the backyard. overall enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and warm staff. would for sure go again!
The place is just so good. Rustic, cozy and reclaimed wood bar. Three friends and I had a fantastic visit to the Bar Basic. The drinks are awesome, and the food might be even better. For food, we ordered: Buttermilk fried chicken burger Roasted jerk chicken Satay chicken The bird Mighty wings Pesto cauliflower Kitchen sink fries The satay chicken were one of the best thing I've eaten, ever, and the buttermilk fried chicken burger was my second favorite. Nothing should be skip from their food menu, all food is amazing. Finally and most importantly, you can actually have a conversation here. Definitely a new favorite spot. The service was super friendly and the bathroom had major vibes. Yes, once you go to the bathroom you'll understand why it deserved a mention.
Love Bar Basic. Michael, James and crew — loved everything about our evening: the back yard, the food, the cocktails. Amazing service.
This place is the best! We hosted a reception for 50 people - great ambiance, delicious food, and warm service. Shout out to Mike, the manager, for accommodating all our requests and making sure the event was a success! Our guests raved about the food and drinks.
Best shrimp ceviche I have had in the US so far. The tomato and avocado work well together. Generous portion. Quick, attentive, and responsive service in restaurant and via takeout.
Great for brunch Good food Friendly service You can hear each other talk
Great food, great service! The staff was awesome, but Rosie rules.
The staff is great. Good vibes, great energy. The kitchen is hard working and gets your food to you nice, hot, and quick.
What I love most about this place is their portion sizes and presentation with food. In a perfect sandwich or burger, I expect to be able to put the contents of what I’m holding all in one bite. I should not have to mash the top of the bun to eat it. This place assembled their food very well. Everything is nearly put together, not slapped together and stacked 6 inches high❤️ Menu is robust, service is great, vibes.. even better. Good choice if you’re in the neighborhood!
Dropped in for a Tubular Tursday (refreshing $10 Mai Tais all day Thursdays!) and got the shrimp po’ boy, which was delicious with just the right amount of spice. Fries were hot n’ crispy, plated beautifully. My partner loved the pulled pork sandwich! The staff were attentive and kind, and the vibes were laid back and lovely. A great find a short walk from Prospect Park!
We had my boyfriend’s birthday here and encoded bit have asked for better! Bar basic was accommodating with a last minute res, service was attentive, drinks were good (and reasonably priced), and they were so welcoming! Would recommend to anyone looking for a local place with an excellent vibe
Love this place. Reliable, elevated bar food with healthy options. Service is great and they’re accommodating with kids. Only suggestion is wine list could be improved.
The service... such great, kind, & fun service. Good vibes all around, and they're gluten aware! I got the Buffalo wings - and personal fave - and they were great. But the service (particularly August 💛) just mage my whole experience great. Thank you! Will definitely be back when I'm in this part of bk!
Yummy brunch at 2pm on a Saturday in early August. Great staff. Just very warm as they is no a/c , but we were fortunate enough to be seated by the front where the front was open to the outside. There were some fans on.
Nice ambiance! Fried fish was tasty. Friends did not love the special margaritas, and bench seating was a bit cramped for some.
The food and drinks were great. However, it took a great while, actually well after our food had arrived for the last of us, to get our drinks as the bartender was busy chatting with friends. The wait service was nice. I've been before on. Weeke d where ll was well, including the service.
We were in a bit of a rush, so we didn't get a chance to savor the place/food as much as I wouldn't liked, but our experience was good. It's the kind of place I would happily come back to, but would prefer to try something else if given the chance. Wide, but not large selection of food and drink. Everything was very tasty. I had the fried chicken sandwich and the coating was really good; lots of black pepper, good crisp, nice spice level. The fries were great; nice and crispy, right amount of salt, but I don't think they would do well after more than ~20-30 minutes sitting around. The atmosphere is interesting. Little eclectic, but not too busy or weird. Our service was good, nothing amazing, but no real flaws.
Nice little place; often difficult location to access if driving. Park Slope is like that. Friendly atmosphere and staff; indoor and outdoor seating, both in back patio and on-street. Food wise, adequate menu; not overcrowded, with reasonable pricing. Separate drink menu also adequate and uncluttered. Service was attentive, portions adequate-to-generous. Found my selection of pulled pork sandwich tasty but just a tad salty. Iced cappuccino was less like cappuccino than light iced coffee, served in a Mason Jar, with a bit too much ice. Would still consider a return visit and recommendation to others.
The restaurant was very cute inside. We started with loaded nachos. I had the chicken enchilada. The beer selection was great. The service was decent. The food was good. Definitely a cute place in Park Slope.
I had an Organic Quinoa Salad from here yesterday. It was ok, it just didn’t have any meat so within an hour I was starving. The quinoa and orange slices were different from my usual salad and I liked the citrus based dressing. The tortillas were a nice bonus. But I just wasn’t fulfilled in the end. The Grubhub lunch menu is rather boring and offers little variety and choices. The fourth star is for the eco-friendly container.
Overall rating: 4.5 $7 margarita during happy hour. Sign me up! Very small spot that feels short staffed when I went during happy hour time. Oddly enough I saw someone working at the bar, but the odd part was there’s literally no space. I like the deal, but I don’t think I could come back solo. This is a spot you catch up with a friend on. Definitely want to come back again & try their food.
This place is clearly in the midst of an identity crisis. It says it has brunch, but it does not. It says it is basic, but it weirdly has burgers, banh mi, tacos, pho, and jambalaya. To paraphrase Seinfeld, WHAT IS THE DEAL? It is perfectly serviceable food, but nothing special. Nice little space though. I hope they pick a lane!!
The wings here used to be amazing. This was when they first opened, but now they're kinda different, the chicken is grey, slimy texture, and undercooked. If they fix this problem I'd eat there wayyyy more often. Other than that, the food is a little greasy but that's ok, overall good food but could be better.
The basil strawberry lemonade was the best part. Kale salad came with a ton of lettuce but very little toppings and a tiny cup of dressing on the side. I do not want to mix my own salad, especially kale. bathrooms were disgusting - they look like .they have not been cleaned in days
Pretty good food. Terrible service. Drinks will take 20+ minutes. Food comes out quicker but anything extra, like napkin, chips, check, etc, you will also have to wait.
Good service, nice place to hang out, and the coffee was good. Had the kale salad and it left something to be desired. Fried chicken was awesome though!
We've come here a few times since they first opened. The owners/staff we interacted with seemed genuinely nice. The burgers and food were just alright. We went back a few times hoping the burgers would be better since the Park Slope area by far needs better ones, but it hasn't improved. Burgers have potential, but they all had this sweetness to it that was a little odd. Might be in the burger, or the sauce but it tastes like a bunch of sugar was added. The veggies burger, Basic, Chicken, Pork sliders all suffered from this. The buttermilk chicken burger was a let down as well. The chicken quality/flavor was lacking and came across as nothing special. They serve breakfast now so we may try it. I just hope trying this place again isn't a waste again. Decent place, but not anything memorable.
Food was excellent! The burger and tacos are great. Drinks could use some improvement, the Bloody Mary isn’t close to a Bloody Mary, not even sure what it was. Lots of ice, limited drink flavor. Stick to a beer. 6.5/10
Never felt compelled to write a critical review but here we go... I ordered a draft beer and it tasted like they hadn't cleaned the lines of the tap in a while. My girlfriend ordered the chicken tacos, which were pretty bad. The tortillas were from the freezer with a very unpleasant chemical aftertaste and the plantain chips with which they were served were absolutely inedible - very dry and bland. I had the brisket sandwich, which was honestly pretty good but way too fatty/greasy which didn't sit well at all. I wish they would pare down the menu and do fewer items really well.
Our drinks at Bar Basic were quite good and reasonably priced, our food was OK - one of the dishes came out less hot than I would have expected and the tacos were on the pricey side for the quantity of food. The outdoor space is quite cute when the weather permits outdoor dining.
Neighborhood spot I've been to a handful of times for lunch/brunch. Went there recently to meet a friend for lunch. Service was decent with cool (70s country) music, but I guess the food quality has fallen off. Had the lamest BLT I've ever paid 22 bucks for. Also, the place had that musty restaurant kitchen smell.
Two years ago, me and my trivia league (shout out the Balls of Quincy Jones #rip) deleted this dig. Unfortunately, the fun trivia hostess with the disco ball earrings left. Without notifying anyone. After, some Australian lady replaced her and trivia was never the same. 3/5
The signature cocktails and food was ok. We ordered appetizers and entrees and everything was brought out at the same time which is a no no. There was barely any room on the table and by the time we got to entree, it was no longer hot. The service was not good at all. The server was busy sitting at the bar on her phone and chatting with the bartender. I felt like I was bothering her to ask for water and napkins. This place needs to better manage the staff.
Objectively cool spot. Food/drinks are solid and the interior decor is on point. Would honestly be a neighborhood favorite but it’s kind of secretly a metal bar? Like I don’t care about bar music but I absolutely cannot have a conversation with avenged sevenfold in the background
The staff were nice but obviously demoralized by the steady crush of loud children at every single table. Seriously overpriced cocktail for what I was served. If you’re looking for a place for your children to run wild, come here—otherwise skip it.
The food is great, and the beer selection is decent, but what stops this becoming a neighbourhood hangout is the staff. Customer service is poor, and service is slow. Staff spend more time talking to each other than serving customers. A real shame as the kitchen and the back-of-house staff are great.
My wife came here several times and loved it so much she insisted we go. We had guac and chips appetizer and it was the blandest guac of ever had - maybe they're catering to 5 year old pallets. Main course was fish and chips - although the menu said "battered" it was breaded and fried, and they don't serve it with, or have in the kitchen, any malt vinegar. Other people's food did look and smell good, so maybe I made a mistake not ordering something more difficult to get wrong. Although my wife and I were very disappointed with the food, our kids had wings and burgers and soup and loved it. Also, the ambience is nice, and the staff are incredibly friendly. I have a hunch that if I went back and ordered wings and a burger, I may have given them 5 stars instead of 2.
Meh, overpriced food and excessively salty fries (coming from someone who loves salty food)
Great idea, good reviews, but in reality... I have ordered a delivery to the office for many ppl, food (Farmer Salad) came in a box, not mixed and it is not possible to mix that salad in that box! The box is full of greens and a few pieces of tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. Another salad (Earthy Kale Salad) came in in the plastic box full of kale and a few cherry tomatoes halves (also not possible to mix). QUESADILLA is tiny!! The delivery guy is rude, asked for tips (tips were added to the bill online). 2 of the salads were missing, we called and the person on the phone referred us to Grubhub to request another driver (!). I would think they should fix the mistake they made, not us. According to other employees of the office Burger was good! So, salads are 1 star, Burgers are 5 star. But the whole experience is a decaffeinate "NO", will not order again. there are soooo many places around who are excellent in preparing food and caring for their clients. Please look at the pictures i posted, compare them with the ones on the website and keep in mind that the boxes with salads are FULL of greens and dusted with other ingredients on top. Absolutely tasteless.
The entire experience here was a disappointment. When I went, the restaurant was understaffed (1 waiter and no busboys), and he was completely overwhelmed. My party and I ordered 2 burgers medium rare and 1 medium well, and they all came medium well. The two kids I was with ordered waffles, which never came. The first batch were made with the cheese when the kids ordered cheese on the side, and the second time, he said there was something wrong with the batter so they were unservable. The waiter neglected to tell us any of this until it was too late to order something else and the rest of us had finished our burgers. Lastly, we had to ask for everything that a waiter should already be on top of, like silverware, water, napkins etc. 1 star SOLELY for the fries. I will not be surprised if the restaurant goes out of business.
Hair in food. When order was "remade" it got back to me cold. They were kind enough to comp meal and drink. Don't think I'll return. The adult Capri sun is good
Literally just walked out after asking to sit outside as a single diner, she said sure seat yourself... They were not even busy and I waited almost 25 minutes for no greeting no water nothing. Two lady’s with baby strollers walked in after me and I noticed they already had drinks on their table and the server was placing their food! I stood up and walked in and waved them down like what the hell? She just shrugged at the front desk and looked at me. I sat back down and waited a few more minutes… NOTHING. I used to like this place but SERVICE MEANS EVERYTHINGGGGGG!!! As a person in service myself I’m shocked and deeply disappointed. It may be a good idea to retrain your staff.
Sat at bar and ordered Margarita which was good . Bartender never said a word to me was busy discussing career. I order shrimp poor boy and chicken soup . The soup was Luke warm and the sandwich had 4 little fried shrimp in it which were fried and burnt No one asked about the food or if I needed anything else . Back bar dirty and disorganized .
I ordered chicken noodle and tomato soup and it’s either canned soup reheated a poured in container or the person who made this soup hates their job. I wasted my money and I’ll never order food from here again. Don’t order the soups, just buy progressive in a can.
