Bar Bruno Brooklyn Reviews
My girlfriend and I went to Bar Bruno for the first time last night. I feel like I've been fortunate to generally have good meals when I go to restaurants, but the food at Bar Bruno was a cut above. We ordered hibiscus margaritas, which were good, and some tasty chicken wings as an appetizer. She got tacos for her main, and I ordered what I consider the star of the show, a pulled pork torta. It came with a chili dip, which was unbelievably smoky and flavorful and stuck to the sandwich like icing on a cake. The bread was soft and fresh and the pulled pork was perfectly cooked. It was the best torta I've ever eaten. Beyond the food, the service was great. Our waiter, Orlin, was attentive and nice to talk to. I highly recommend Bar Bruno and I know I'll be back.
DELICIOUS!!! We Just moved to the neighborhood and we have been trying all the restaurants in the area and I literally just finished eating the best grilled chicken burrito I have ever eaten. I am born and raised here and have eaten hundreds of burritos. It was served with a huge mixed green salad that was done right. If you already eat here you know what I’m talking about and if you are undecided please take my word, you won’t be disappointed. A note on customer service; 5 stars! There was an error on my order and when I called they were incredibly professional and genuinely nice about everything and fixed it in like literally 10 minutes! This has happened to me at other restaurants and I have been met with poor attitude and sometimes afraid to call. I’m sorry I didn’t get his name and the delivery guy so the compliments get noticed.
absolutely loved this place! got the chicken, steak, fish, and vegetable tacos which were SO good, my fave was probably the chicken or fish the service was great, we were seated fast and the food came out relatively fast had a great experience, would definitely go back
Delicious! I had the fish tacos. My companions loved their food too. It would be even better if they served cafe con leche.
I'm at a Man United themed restaurant with George Best mural on the wall and waiter decides to throw on a Liverpool game. One star service. Food is great though
We were from out of town looking for a place to kill a couple hours and stumbled on this place. The bar was clean with a great ambience,, the bartender was very attentive and helpful, food was great and the band playing was a great added surprise! We will definitely be back when back in town!
Great food- really amazing flavors. Good happy hour/taco Tuesday deals. We had wings(they're HOT, but super tasty), kale salad and tacos all awesome!
“Hey kids who wants to go to Bar Bruno?” “MEEEEE!!!” Kids love this place. Food is real good. Service is friendly and pretty fast when they’re not slammed. For some reason the sexy crowd starts to filter in as we are leaving... coincidence?
Really yummy food. Their spicy tortilla soup is perfect on a cold fall day in New York. It came with warm fluffy bread, which was so good. Pulled pork torta is yummy also.
Omg! The shrimp taco from this place wow! One of the best one I have ever tasted! Full of flavor and just the right amount of spicy that it allows you to taste everything! And the margarita was delicious!
My favorite fish tacos in the city. They have a $10 happy hour special, 3 tacos and a Tecate. Great atmosphere, especially if you're a United supporter.
If you like margaritas and getting caught in the rain. If you´re not into yoga, if you have half a brain... Wait wrong song. I haven't eaten at Bar Bruno but their margaritas are excellent. I typically get the hibiscus or spicy jalapeno one. Oh, you also get complementary chips and salsa at your table so you don't have to drink on an empty stomach ;)
Love eating at Bar Bruno when we are in town to visit family. The food was wonderful. Great tacos and amazing soups. A fun and cozy place. Thanks to Sabrina for excellent and friendly service!
Went for only drinks as we waited for our table at Lucali, but man I'd love to come back. Drink we're really good and the food on the menu also looked great. I will come back here for food one of these days... Definitely recommend going for drinks as you wait
I’ve tried all of the taco places in this neighborhood and the shrimp tacos and margaritas are the best at Bar Bruno. I can say this with full confidence.
We got very good michelada and frozen margaritas. I tried “Chilaques verdes” for the first time and I had no idea what I was about to get. It surprised me in such a great way. And of course the carnitas tacos are the best thing in the world. We’re definitely visiting you guys a couple times again.
Sleeper of a restaurant and total neighborhood gem. Highly recommend the spicy margaritas + habanero wings. And I’ve heard the breakfast burrito is a solid go to. The bartenders are great. Great place to catch a game and vibe with friends.
The establishment serves tasty meals. I highly recommend you try out their incredible burger platter. Even if you are only a few minutes late, it will be difficult to secure a seat at their bar because they have such a large assortment of drinks. Despite the limited sitting options, I would still suggest this establishment.
Stopped by to grab dinner and drinks with my girl late Sunday. Have been here before and they never disappoint. The margaritas were good and we each had a burger and empanadas. We chose to sit outside since the weather was so nice and we wouldn't need masks. Staff are friendly and attentive but not overbearing. This is our spot whenever we're in the area.
The cooks really know what they're doing. their mahi mahi fish tacos are the best and the staff is really friendly. hard to imagine ways to improve such a place.
What's better than a place with excellent food? A place that also has incredible customer service. Our pick up order was missing an item and instead of offering to credit us, they delivered it!! And they were also kind enough to add some extra goodies!! The burrito was so delicious!!
I enjoyed it! A little on the pricier side of things, but the environment, service, and food were excellent. I had a very upbeat, attentive server for brunch on Sunday; the coffee was excellent, and their carnitas tacos were juicy and delicious. The overall grade is a solid A-
Been meaning to come forever and SO glad we finally did. The margs are fantastic, it’s a perfect vibe outside - quiet, shaded, but fun - and the food…. 10/10. Abuela’s tortilla soup was crazy good, wings were some of the best I’ve had in this area, street corn was delish, and we did the stir fry which was a nice refresher with so many veggies. Super reasonably priced and friendly staff. 100% worth stopping by.
The bar tender was friendly and provided excellent service. The food was delicious!
This is a local place. No one is going to come far away to this isolated area. Their Bruno burgers with fries are awesome. Their soups are great. Their fish tacos are great. The menu is small but every item on it is great quality.
Stopped by with family for dinner and really enjoyed the food, drinks and service. Nice quiet corner. Excellent frozen and regular margaritas. Also nice take on dishes with more healthy vegetables options. A must go
We descended upon this place (with reservations) as a group of 16, including 9 kids under 6. The service was great, the food was good. They have a kids menu on paper for the kids to color on and crayons to use. They started us with chips and salsa. Everyone's order was correctly taken and delivered. The kids were all happy and so were the adults.
Bar Bruno is a great place, the service is warm and attentive!! The menu is all well selected, wines beers, tequilas are great. The food is superbe and the quality of the ingredients are to be the top. The ambiance is very relax, i definitely loved all the experiences I had there!! A gem in the neighborhood...
I love bar Bruno and you should too! Extremely friendly and professional staff, great margaritas, great homemade chips, delicious food. The menu is slightly limited but that’s how brooklyn works these days. I do think there’s something for everyone. I can always count on bar Bruno for a good meal that makes me feel good later too. Thankful they’ve survived the pandemic thus far!
My brother and I came here while waiting for a late reservation at a place down the street. I ordered the Rosa Rita (reposado, raspberries, pink peppercorn, Cointreau, agave, jasmine flowers). I usually hate tequila drinks (or rather, tequila drinks hate me), but this was delicious. Then we ordered the guacamole. I was tentative because it features pumpkin seeds, but this is hands down the best guacamole I’ve ever had. My brother agreed! We then split a steak quesadilla and some grilled zucchini. Both were amazing. The bartender, Sara, was great. The owners were on-site, greeting people and working the room. Fantastic service. I could totally ditch the other reservation and go back to my hotel happy as a clam.
By far an A+ attention, food was superb, Shannon, Sarah and other staff members went above and beyond to accommodate my family and I for my sons 15th birthday celebration! I cannot thank you enough for the great night we had. It took me literally minutes after hunting for a place to host my sons dinner celebration and I’m glad I found this place! Every single plate we order was delicious. Thank you so much… my son had a blast he just didn’t stop thanking me for an awesome time❤️Btw: Churros and Flan are a must to order ❤️you simply won’t be disappointed ✨great business great food and great staff members!! Thank you
This is my corner bar/restaurant, so I know it well. Everyone who works here is personable and friendly, especially the bartender and manager. :-) The food is excellent - tasty and fresh. I get the food to go mostly. The margaritas are top-notch - they taste like margaritas should, with a slight bite and a tang, rather than being syrup-y sweet. I'm glad they have made it through and are still standing through the troubled times we have all had these recent years.
Delicious Mexican and American food! It’s rare to find a place that can do both SO good. I eat here often (both dine in and delivery) and have never been disappointed. Burgers are juicy, fish tacos are tasty, and the wings are fire!!! Also, the margaritas are amazing! Check them out.
We came here for the first time and left satisfied. The margaritas were great a perfect balance strong and flavorful. the kale dip was so good and the steak tacos were also great comes three tacos per order and it was enough for two highly recommend .
Nice and cozy bar with a great variety of drinks and food. The service was very friendly and was very good on timing our refills
I bought takeout from them in the form of a steak platter.... and let me tell you something - they're giving you steak for real. Their Grilled Pat LaFrieda Skirt Steak is incredibly delicious and generously served. If I were to take a guess, I'd assume it was at least 8 ounces. I was not able to finish the thing. I just put the rest in the fridge and I'm gonna fry some plantains and have the rest of it tonight. I'm kind of in disbelief, because I've been eating grilled steak since I was 16 and I've never enjoyed one this much. It is almost as if they made this entrée with the expectation to exceed mine. They've certainly made me happy; I am wholly satisfied. Whomever is reading this, go ahead and order that steak my friend. It's going to put you on your ass.
This cool little dive just blocks from the over-hyped restaurant down the street is awesome. Between the local beers and creative menu, with little to no wait times during the week, it was the perfect hidden gem for my wife and I. We had a late lunch here after waiting to get on the waitlist for "that other place." The server didn't check on us much, but was super cool. Had to flag him down to place our order, all good (I hear it's like that in Europe, so maybe it's just a NYC thing). OH MAN, try the Birria pizza, it's phenomenal (especially with the burnt cheese on the edges, so good)! I definitely recommend Bar Bruno for a late lunch, casual drinks, or to try something new and creative.
A few weeks ago, I visited Bar Bruno, a charming Mexican Bistro that knows how to play with flavors. With each bite, I found myself already plotting my next visit. Bar Bruno is the perfect neighborhood spot and a MUST-VISIT. While I won't wax poetic about the decor, the ambiance cradles you in its warm embrace. For an after-work cocktail, an impromptu date night, or simply a delightful meal—Bar Bruno is a beautiful option. Oh, and did I mention they serve brunch? The staff embodies warmth, extending a welcome that feels like a hug in the form of impeccable service—the food dances on your palate, a perfect companion to your choice of libation. On my first visit, I indulged in a taco trio featuring steak, fish, and shrimp, a true palate pleaser. This time around, we explored their dinner menu. We initiated the feast with Guacamole and Plantains, then ventured onto the Chopped Cheese Wraps, Burger Tacos, and Quinoa Veggie Burgers. For the grand finale—we ended on a sweet note with the Flan and Dessert Nachos. Guacamole is not my usual pick, but the pumpkin seeds made it a flavorful and adventurous choice. The Plantains was the perfect harmony of sweet and savory, transcending a mere appetizer to become the ultimate side dish. The Chopped Cheese Wrap deserves a standing ovation. A mouthwatering blend of pepper jack cheese and onions—makes it an absolute must-order. The Quinoa Veggie Burger, a vegetarian delight, tasted so good that I momentarily forgot it was meatless. But the crown jewel of the evening? The Burger Tacos—imagine the perfect burger and a delightful taco having a culinary love affair. And guess what? The French fries are in the tacos. Genius. And the dessert? The Flan and Dessert Nachos brought our memorable meal to a sweet conclusion. While dinner was an absolute delight, I'd gladly return for the margaritas. These concoctions are in a league of their own, perfectly balanced with a burst of flavor that avoids the pitfall of excessive sweetness. Passion Fruit and Strawberry were our picks, and they left us craving more. This visit to Bar Bruno was nothing short of a wonderful, unforgettable experience, and I'm eagerly anticipating my next visit with their tempting menu.
I don’t ever get frozen margaritas but here I did. Right out of the machine at the front of the bar. It must have been made with fresh lime juice which married perfectly texture of the slush. I would have supplemented with a shot of tequila but we were starting a big night so I held back. The spicy salt rim was the perfect addition. I’m definitely going back for more. BTW it’s the perfect place to wait for a table at Untable across the street :)
I was heading to Mccarren park and stopped by Bar Bruno Thursday afternoon for a quick lunch. The food definitely exceeded any expectations for tacos in Greennpoint- some of the best tacos I had in NYC! Specifically was blown away by the shrimp tacos and the aioli that accompanies them. Justin behind the bar was super friendly and helpful while giving us space to chilll and enjoy. He recommended the churro pancake tacos which we had to get- and he was absolutely on point. It was my day off so I had a margarita-- a classic cocktail done RIGHT. Overall I love it here and will definitely be back to try more brunch items.
We love fish tacos! When we saw fish tacos on the menu - We had to get them! And they did not disappoint. We ordered their 3 fish tacos made with Battered Mahi, Pico de Gallo, Radish, and Chipotle Avocado Tomatillo. The fish was light, tasty, crunchy, and well-seasoned. The Radish gave more crunch to it, the chipotle gave that nice spicy kick to it. Overall, Will come back again! Also for their nachos and guac!
The people in this neighborhood can be so entitled and annoying, but you’d never guess it bothers the staff, they’re so polite and kind in the face of rudeness. Special shout out to the server with the big beard and full arm sleeve tats. Anyway the tatertots are incredible I felt like a kid again eating them they were so good. Solid bloody Maria and brunch options. Plenty of seating outside. Come here and don’t let anyone who thinks they’re important cut you in line ✌️
The Neymar Nachos are great and so are the fish tacos. Fun spot to meet for a drink and share a snack. The spice rim on the frozen margs is great, and they’re a great value. Lots of mosquitos at the tables in the little alcove on Henry but never had a problem with mosquitos at the majority of the tables that are on the Union street side.
The service can be iffy, but if you get there on a good night, you'll love the freshly made guacamole, fish tacos, and margaritas. I'm also a fan of the kale salad topped with shrimp. It's so hearty it won't feel like a salad.
Slow bar service but good food! The kale dip was a delicious surprise and the tacos were great. The spicy margarita was the perfect amount of spicy. I would definitely come back and recommend to a friend in the area!
Very good place to eat tacos! The food was really good and the frozen margaritas help to set the mood! We also could enjoy watching football in a good atmosphere and with a very friendly service!
Came here starving on Memorial Day Monday by chance and loved it. We had corn, plantains, kale dip, and guacamole as starters. They were all so delicious. Our mains came out, they were good but we were actually a little underwhelmed after our tapas choices. I think if everything was served with lime and some salt was offered in the table we could have doctored our tacos to be our ideal. The restaurant was very accommodating to walk in group of 4 adults, a toddler and an infant. There is no changing table in the bathroom.
Excellent frozen margarita! Not too sweet. Nachos were decent and interesting because they had what I believe was cooked spinach on them. Nice local spot.
This place is well decorated, and the staff was extremely friendly, the service was excellent. The food and drinks were really good as well but the menu was more gourmet mexican than authentic. The fish tacos were really good but had more tomatoes than fish which is a bit disappointing. We ordered the burger medium well and got it well done so it lacked some moisture. Then again we shouldn't order burgers at a taco spot, right. Thumbs up to the passion fruit mezcalita, absolutely delicious!!!
Chilaquiles were great. Perhaps a little heavy on the tortilla chips. The menu has it as verde, but they subbed a rojo sauce for me. Service was prompt. The atmosphere was ok, but it’s a family-friendly spot so there were some screaming kids around. There isn’t a lot the restaurant folks can do about that, though.
Great location family vibe and a little pricey
We just had our Sunday lunch at this place. We were sitting outdoor enjoying the sun, but it was a little bit too windy. My son lives two blacks from here, so it becomes a very convenient place to eat when I come to visit. Price here is not cheap, we spent eighty dollars for three adults and a three year old kid. But the service was decent and the food was good.
This place has one of the best margaritas in the area. They are strong and different kinds are offered. This goes well with the food. Usually order a bunch of appetizers. The fries, plantains, guac. and elote corn are amazing. Can't really speak for the main entrees. Price is decent, atmosphere is nice. Recently they changed their decor.
Nice layout and comfortable corner restaurant. Service was medicore - not bad and not good - just doing his job with a smile. Food was decent. Guacamole was fresh & hearty but bland. We had the fish tacos and the carnitas tacos, both of which were decent. No salsa to speak of, which is typical in western Mexican restaurants. With lots of restaurant options, would not return here.
The food is good but overpriced. The add-ons quickly cause a burrito to cost more than $25. There's an extra charge for everything. However, the food is good so we keep coming back. I'd recommend the burrito, ceaser salad and the (almost $20) queso. The seating outside is also nice. It's a good neighborhood staple.
Bar Bruno is one of those spots you almost don’t want to tell people about because it really feels like a hidden gem. The tacos are seriously some of the best I’ve had in the city. They are super flavorful and fresh without being overdone. The vibe is laid-back and fun, with great old-school music playing in the background that makes you want to hang around a little longer. Prices are also really reasonable for the quality, which is a huge plus in NYC. Overall, it’s just an easy, go-to spot if you’re craving good tacos without the pretense.
December 23 2023 went in there to just see the vibes for the night I already ate but knew I was going to be drinking so I got soupa- the taste was flavorful . Enjoyable but would like to try their other menu items anyways the Waiter that day had Stella customer services he took pictures for me in all that .The the spot was huge and vibrant it was calm that day however I will be back : top notch : churros at that . So yes try them out : you will enjoy
Bartender was chill. Didn't want to improvise and make me a drink. Ended up having a customer recommend something. The corn was tasty but didn't seem fresh. Lastly, the kale dip had great flavor but a little too watery. I would absolutely come here again and recommend everyone try it. Staff is very friendly. My complaints might not be the same as what others feel. Still, it's definitely 4 out of 5 stars for me, and I can't wait to go back for other dishes.
The Birria Pizza is top tier! Like definitely the best thing I’ve had in a while. They have good options for kids: tator tots, hot dogs, etc. Great family friendly location. Almost every one who worked there is upper friendly but I’d say that you might find that your server will change throughout your time.
Ordered frozen margaritas, carnitas tacos, steak tacos with rice and beans and tortilla soup. The tortilla soup was delicious - finely cut strips of tortillas, Chiles, avocado, cotija cheese in a tomato based chicken broth. Had the right amount of heat.. SO GOOD!! The carnitas were cooked perfectly but were missing a bit of salt to enhance the flavor of the pork. My husband had the steak tacos - he wasn't thrilled about them. I'm guessing they cut back on the salt due to their clientele. 🤷🏽♀️ The service was on point. Chill, casual ambiance.. Might come back for the soup.
We sat outside, the waiter was attentive and brought us lots of water. Drinks are a bit overpriced. Food was decent.
The vegetarian dishes were okay. Too much corn. Vegetarian mole is soup (FYI) not a dish. If I were eating non-vegetarian that day, I might of had a better experience. The drinks were definitely a five star.
It used to be a niceish place to get pretty good food. That atmosphere has fallen so mich over the last handful of years. But food is good. Best foe outdoor meals or takeout
Definitely not what i was expecting by the pictures on google maps. Felt like a more American-ized version of Mexican food which isn't a bad thing, just not what i was expecting. Our waitress was welcoming, kind and friendly but i think she was the only server working the entire floor (and the tables outside) so there was no way for her to keep up with all the tables.
The food was okay. The outside seating on the broad sidewalk is cool, but the disposable plates and utensils were tiny and flimsy, so it was hard to eat from them. Service was slow, probably because the staff was overworked: two people were serving 10 outside tables and mixing drinks.
Food was just okay to be honest. The frozen margaritas were way too sour (may have over did it on the lime). The food itself lacked flavor and was just overall pretty bland. The service okay but the host barely greeted us.
Good chips and guac, for starters. I also liked the tortilla soup. The fish tacos have a deservedly good reputation, and what's not to enjoy about a well-made Sunday margarita? A sweet neighborhoodstaple and a nice walk from home.
Casual, neighborhood bar and restaurant serving solid Mexican and drinks. Lively atmosphere, and it can get a bit noisy, but on off nights it has a nice calm vibe.
Honestly it wasn’t how I expected it to be! The quesadilla and burrito were okay, they needed seasoning, the burger was good and the drinks as well but the service wasn’t good, they were kind of rude and we had to wait for like 19 min to have our table ready even tho we had a reservation. I wouldn’t recommend it sorry!
Totally a bummer. Wanted to go and support this place with my Husband, baby (in his stroller) and dog. We wanted a round of drinks and maybe a quick app. Probably wouldn't have started looking anyway. We were told we had to sit at the two top, because the other 8 four tops were reserved for larger parties. Not one of them was occupied. In the era of Covid we chose to not stay since the two tops were all jammed together, and we wanted to sit a little further away from people.
Visited Bar Bruno with colleagues after work to unwind and enjoy our Friday evening. We opted for drinks and food at the bar, with prompt service from the bartender, Sezo. However, the menu items were pricey, and the food portions were small. My coworker's carnita tacos had a soggy tortilla, while my nachos had an unexpected ingredient - mushrooms, which I am allergic to. We ended up notifying the bartender and at first he offered a shot which was a little rude being that i was having an allergic reaction & had to take medication. He then returned with a solution but the nachos also contained cooked spinach, when neither ingredient were mentioned on the menu. But Overall, it was an underwhelming experience, and I am unlikely to return.
My friend and I used to love this place but we visited yesterday and the quality of the food and drinks has gone down drastically. Our food lacked seasoning and our drinks were subpar. In addition, we ordered guacamole and we got a ton of chips and less than a scoop of guacamole. Our churros were soggy I hope it was just a bad night but we will be going elsewhere.
nothing was good, really. don't get me wrong nothing was really bad, actually, one of the dishes came soaked in oil, gross. I'm pretty sure they get a lot of business from customers of the pizzeria on the next block .... guacamole was not very well seasoned, beans were from a tin tacos were not very good .. all in all I will not come back there to eat but rather just to have a drink
Have eaten at bar Bruno for nearly 15 years. Owners are lovely but staff is meh. Everytime I order online they forget to include items and then when I call leave me on hold forever and insist it’s in the bag. Exhausting. When there food is slow and service is bad but food is good
i don't leave bad reviews unless truly warranted: awful service. drinks take forever, servers are rude. these people have no business owning a restaurant. i've been a few times out of convenience and every time is the same. on the weekend we waited 45 minutes for a round of drinks and when i asked about them he said "okay so leave." their food is fine, if you're curious
The only reason we were there was, we were waiting for the other hyped up pizza joint. Therefore we only ordered 3 small bites and drinks. The potato tater was apparently from the frozen section of your supermarket. The chips for the guacamole for sure came from another aisle. They were stale and hard to bite. The guacamole was bland and not very pleasant to eat. The churro was soggy and limp. What a huge disappointment those 3 were. To top it off, the cocktail was only so so. The waitress? She's merely there because she wanted her pay cheque. Why is it so difficult to find a waitress or waiter who has personality and like what they do? And you expect a customer to leave you tips automatically when you aren't making an effort? I'm not asking much but would a smile kill you?
¡un desastre! Absolutely horrendous service with maybe 30% order accuracy. Received fewer items than ordered. Received wrong items. Some of these oversights were not corrected. We never ended up getting all our food, opting to simply cut our losses. The food isn’t bad. It’s nothing special but it’s solid. The water had black bits and other detritus floating in it. Didn’t receive appetizer plates. Didn’t get napkins and had to pester the bar.
I do not not usually write reviews but I brought home a kale salad with shrimp and it was not edible. There was hair wrapped around one of the pecans in the salad. The shrimp were clearly cooked a long time ago. The apple slices brown. I try to support local restaurant and left a 10 dollar tip on an order I took out so that’s a 30 dollar salad I had to throw out. Now I need to get a real lunch.
Would never go back. Food looked pretty but didn’t taste good at all. The waiters were very incompetent. They took very long to do anything. Never gave us starter plates. Never came around for water. 0 stars
Great service but terrible food . Guacamole was served straight from the refrigerator ( come one !! how long doesn’t it take to make a guac fresh? ) and the stale chips didn’t help to enhance the experience . We ordered tacos . I’m not Mexican but boiled meat with no seasoning doesn’t make a taco . Specially when the tortilla that is suppose to hold the meat is soaking in hot water. It literally looked like a miso taco soup. But hold on ! I forgot to say that it was hard to find that saggy tortilla because it was buried in mudslide of tomatoes onion and cilantro. I didn’t know what I was looking at . I guess if you like to eat tacos with a no flavor, and use a spoon and a fork , this is your place!
