Black Forest Brooklyn Brooklyn Reviews
We hosted a PTA event at Black Forest Brooklyn and couldn’t have been happier! The space and food were truly incredible and we got so many comments about how delicious everything was and how warm and welcoming the atmosphere felt. They reserved a section in the back for us, which created the perfect setting for our group. Tobias was extremely helpful in organizing the event and guiding us on the menu, and the staff was fantastic throughout the evening. We felt truly taken care of. Highly recommend for private events and seems like such a great space to just pop in for a bite too.
Love this place for warm cozy winter vibes, delicious drinks and tasty food. We only ordered the pretzel and fried mushrooms but both were excellent. I will return to try to dinner menu items!
My wife and I have been going here for a long time. Lots of good German beers and it’s a hall experience. Get a sausage they’re great they have there take on kraut, it’s good but some people seem taken aback but the flavors are nice avoid the fries in off hours potentially. You can’t get this anywhere in the area have a good time, Prost!
Loud, packed ==> local favorite. Food is German but what I got (goulash and spätzle) wasn't as heavy as I expected (and tasty). Wife got kale and apple salad, which she loved. I rarely encountered salad like that when I visited Germany, so that was a (pleasant) surprise. Tannenzapfle beer was great, a bit like a saison, but more crisp and fresh.
A great place for those who enjoy large portions and delicious food! The dishes are hearty and well-prepared. The atmosphere is nice, with a bar-like vibe, but it can get quite noisy. If you’re looking for a quiet conversation, it’s better to come during off-peak hours. Overall, a positive experience—I’ll definitely be back!
12/27/24 back for another work dinner - Still good, excellent service. Chicken portion is a bit smaller than in the past. 4/7/23 crazy i have not been here in 2 years? Chicken schnitzel+ garlic mashed & kraut. Still really good! Upgraded to 5⭐ 5/16/21 Finally! Back for lunch. What did I get? Of course, chicken schnitzel w/fries + kraut. Still perfect. Good service, online ordering from the table, pay and boom.... Your food shows up. Outdoor and indoor seating, plus seating in the triangle park just downhill of the restaurant. 2/25/19 yeah, same meal, still good! 11/17/18 update: chicken schnitzel with mash + kale, still perfect... Am I too predictable? 4/9/18 update: had the chicken schnitzel with mash + kale, perfect again! 5 stars. Friendly staff and very easy to run separate checks, divided up as you pay (credit or cash) at the table- very European. I love that! Nice spot, good food and friendly service. Had the chicken schnitzel with kale salad and kraut. Very good flavors. I'll certainly be back to try more. Many selections on the menu... Lots of good beer on tap too.
solid and really big space great for hanging on a date night or perhaps trivia night!!! was really fun to be part of trivia randomly, burger was juicy and perfectly cooked, vegan options are tasty. the fries tasted like mcdonald’s. super clean bathroom and overall great prices and energy. can’t wait to come back. they have kaffee which is hilarious
Excellent place for hanging with friends or grabbing a drink on your own. Decent food, prices, and outstanding bartender Allie. Good happy hour options and patrons have a great vibe. Will be back.
Food was pretty good, I liked the rolled omelette with potatoes and sour dough toast. The waffles in the chicken and waffle were delicious - slightly crunchy and tasted slightly almondy. The chicken legs were slightly burnt on the outside though. Came here for brunch for 5 early on a weekend day and was not too crowded and could get seated right away.
Never been to German restaurant but really liked this place. I tried the cod fish sandwich and lemonade and really enjoyed it. My family members ordered the beer and wouldn't stop drinking it. They liked the chicken and waffles- they said the waffles were soft and meat was juicy. Hardly like chocolate but decided to try it since they were out of the apple strudel. It was creamy and not as sweet as other cakes. Definitely enjoyed the lovely dessert. Will come back again!
Pretty good place close to Barclays, but some less stars because the schnitzel is pork(not the veal you'd expect) was very good though, the server had zero personality (too bad), the place has a bar atmosphere (hence the beer garden). Have a pretzel, it's so good and a perfect match with a German brew... The stuffed mushrooms were tasty as were the German sausage variety too. So overall Black Forest is a good choice because of it's proximity to the center and if you know what you're going to get.
Eh. It’s fine if you want to grab a German beer. Food is also just fine. They have super weird art on the walls that almost looks like AI but is apparently photography. The service is almost always SUPER slow. I don’t go here unless I’m playing trivia.
I’ll admit it’s been a while, but I’ve been to Black Forest a bunch of times. Anyway, good beer. Food not great but not as awful as DSK’s grub. Ok atmosphere. Once upon a time, I preferred DSK overall, but wouldn’t set foot in there now.
Decent food, great beer. If you want a place for your kids to run around and play while you have a drink, this is your spot. If that's not your jam, I'd plan on going elsewhere. Been there 3 times and it's clearly become a kids run wild joint. Great for parents, but not for everyone.
Went with a large group of friends and it’s for sure a good, accommodating place for a large gathering. No complaints about the beer, by anyone. I had the grapefruit beer and it was light and refreshing. As for food, the schnitzel was delicious but other things ordered like the waffles, fries, and omelettes were just okay. There were varying opinions about the ‘wursts.
Not the place to go if you’re watching calories or cholesterol. Enjoyed the flatbread with bacon and caramelized onions, just a bit heavy. The cheese wurst was good but also heavy. Good fries. More of a place to grab a beer and snacks with a few friends. Was a little chaotic with a table of 15 sucking up all the energy and attention. We never got our cocktail but they removed it. Server was super nice!
Food was good, but service was horrible. Nobody talked to us other than to seat us. Water was brought out once, and one time only (because nobody talked to us). The option for online ordering and payment is a joke. Plus, what's this new trend with pre-tipping!? Tipping is based on how well you serviced the customer. Additionally, please don't tell me that the lack of service was to keep the workers safe. There was a wedding reception that took place as we were leaving, with a group of 50+ individuals, I doubt they had to go to the online app to order. The ordering system (mobile only) is a LOT of work for a group of 6, plus what about the human element of having someone explain the what appeared to be fantastic choice of German food? Honestly, I think the workers there would rather not have had our business. We are a polite asian family, so I can't imagine any reason for them to have ignored us, other than general apathy towards work and zero pride in their job. Highly not recommended. Ever.
poor service, really antagonistic bartender who said it was her first night and told us they weren’t serving water. restaurant was fully empty and they didn’t want to seat 10 people and all we wanted was beers. honestly super disheartening to see a cool spot with such aggro service. had to beg them for a pitcher of water and plastic cups. really crazy, don’t come here save yourself the trouble.
I was looking forward to dining here, as a German I wanted to show this cuisine to my friend. The menu has a lot of non-German dishes (especially brunch menu), but I thought schnitzel and sausages would be a safe choice. My friend ordered schnitzel with potato salad (which was disappointing, as German potato salad is typically oil & vinegar or maybe mayo-based, not heavy mustard). I had the Nürnberger sausages with sauerkraut, which were okay. For context, I had only eaten a light breakfast that day and nothing else. About 13 hours later, I woke up with severe stomach pain. I was sick the entire night. Unfortunately, this makes me believe the food here caused it. It’s disappointing because I wanted to recommend this place to others, but food safety is something I can’t overlook. I don't know what went wrong in the kitchen but I got a solid stomach and it got really tested last night 😔
