Captain Dan's Brooklyn Reviews
Lemon pepper wings are the best I've had ever. The fries are freshly cut to order. Then...the bartender/ chef Nadeer is super cool. This is a great place to hang out during the week or on the weekends.
Visited here while doing some apt hunting in Bed Stuy. I was pleasantly surprised. First, a star for the ambiance. It's got a cozy bar feel. Interesting bird (parrot?) theme for decor. Unisex bathrooms. Mostly high top or bar seating. Not great for large groups but perfect for a foursome or less. Another star for service. We had a very nice server, though he seemed to be the only one working the tables, which only made his patience and attitude more appreciated. Another two stars for food. We ordered the veggie burger and their special chicken & waffle sliders. Both were surprisingly good. I really wasn't expecting much from a small local bar on the corner, but the food tasted great. Not too heavy or filling, good flavors, good texture, good value. The chicken & waffle sliders come with a biscuit gravy sauce that combines perfectly with the table hot sauce. Veggie burger had tons of flavor. And lastly, one star for personal detail. My friend really likes iced tea, but hates powdered iced tea. It's always a gamble which she'll be served, but this place serves legit iced tea, brewed not dissolved. And because there was a bit of a wait to get our orders out, the server comped our drinks for the meal. We weren't even bothered by the wait. So that's a full five stars.
Whether for brunch, lunch, or a night out, Captn Dan's is the place to be. Excellent mocktails too if you're with non-alcohol folks
A great neighborhood spot. The food is wild mint and the people and the staff are where it's at. A real happenin NY brooklyn spot, don't sleep on them 😉
Reda was a fantastic server. Charming, friendly and very sociable. He kept on top of our (rather needy) table with grace and never missed a beat. Would come back again, no hesitation.
Great neighborhood bar! I have only tried the burger and the fries chicken sandwich and they were both very good. The music is good and is mostly just on the background. The atmosphere is pretty chill and the drinks prices are very reasonable.
This spot has a great dive bar atmosphere. The beach burger is a solid bar grub, not overly greasy and topped with american cheese! Try the "Big Dill" beer and a shot, it comes with pickle vodka that is a decent take on a pickle back for those who don't take kindly to whisky.
Food is great. The classic chicken sandwich is cooked just right and the fries are super well seasoned. The drinks are well priced and good.
Chicken Sandwich, delightfully juicy and crunchy all at once. J.A.M Burger, amazing. Hot Dog, banger. Fries, ate the whole basket. Pina Colada is basically a Dole Whip- cloud texture goodness. The server was friendly and fast, 10/10 great food, drinks, and service.
Great service, delicious food. Their mushroom cheeseburger special was one of the best I've had, and the side salad was well dressed. I could have ordered another, it was so good, but the one I had was very satisfying.
Whenever i'm in Brooklyn, i visit Dan's! A super cosy place to just chill, really chill vibe and friendly staff, a nice place to hang or get a late night bite, have a pitcher of margarita and a nice burger. Lovely place, totally recommended. This place is my favorite! I love their margs, wonderful service. Food came out great!
Amazing bar. Everything from the burgers to the cocktails are incredible. Solid and open till 4am. The vegan/veg options are also a plus, not to mention they have bomb brunch. Lest I forget, the staff are the best!!
I went to Captain Dan's a few months back as I was in the area for business. It is such a cozy spot with comfort food and an interesting selection of cocktails that they have on their board. The food came out pretty quickly and it was needless to say delicious. The bartenders are very helpful as I wasn't familiar with many of their choices of beverages.
The staff here is top notch!! It is easy to see that they all are knowledgeable, qualified and they take pride I their work. The cheeseburger is always a good choice. Although you may want to ask that they go easy salting the fries.
Bar food that’s always good! Highly recommend the wings ☺️
Casual but nicely decorated bar. Steps up from a dive bar as far as the vibe goes - they made an effort here! I liked that a server took our order at the table rather than having to waive down a bartender. Cocktails were nice and the nachos seemed to have quality ingredients and much better than expected. Great neighborhood place!
This is a delicious little neighborhood spot. Honestly the drink selection is only like B+, but the food is absolutely delicious. Great comfort food, and some delicious/exciting variations on some favorites. Decent vegan/vegetarian options. Kind of small/loud, but also has a few tables outside.
As a 7th generation native New Yorker, I can confidently say this might be the best bar in all of Brooklyn. The food was excellent, the cocktail I got was fantastic, and the atmosphere was inviting and both unpretentious and warm. Incredibly kind bartenders and servers as well. I wish I could give this place 10 stars.
All the bartenders are personable and attentive. On my first visit, everyone felt like a friend I hadn't' met yet. Every time I've been since, they've continued the connection.
Was catching up with a friend here and enjoyed the cozy food. I love the energy of the spot. Lots of people like to come here (judging from my first time there ha ha ha). Definitely get the Fried Chicken Sandwich! It’s so good.
Best chicken Caesar salad I’ve ever had. Trying to swipe some of the homemade dressing to go so I can use it at home. Vibe of the place is cute and intimate. Tuesday night trivia nights get poppin. The music is fun and the service staff are on point and make you feel better after a day of teaching math to high school students who have to use a calculator to divide 3 by 3…(speaking from experience). Come here after a hard day of work and walk out feeling better!
This place is an understated gem. Drinks are good, food is good, vibe is chill. Playlist is always on point. Xoxo, Gossip Girl
Love this bar. Great low key vibes with quirky decor featuring the corgi Captain Dan and a plethora of exotic birds. The food is so good, maybe the best bar food I've ever had. The loaded fries and loaded nachos are amazing, not to mention the salad is one of the best too. Their cocktails are all great and the frozens are to die for. Service is always A+ with super friendly and attentive staff you can always count on for great vibes and dope music playlists. Everyone wishes they deliver but maybe they're avoiding lawsuits from all the inevitable cardiac arrest that would arise from those loaded fries being available on demand lol.
6/2023 edit: Love this place 12/2022 edit: Removing a couple stars because they continue to automatically add 20% gratuity to the bill, and then still prompt you to add ANOTHER tip on top of that if you pay by card. That is really shady. Honestly I don’t have an issue with the automatic gratuity—though you should just raise the flat prices and pay your workers a living wage, but the problem here is that a lot of the stuff here is already laughably overpriced. $26 for 12 buffalo wings… why? FYI they used to be even more expensive but this new price is still a joke. You’re like the only place in the area with decent hot wings, but I never will order them again until you adjust the price to something reasonable. —— I stepped in poo outside the restaurant - it was pretty funny because people dining outside we’re just stuffing their faces next to this steamy pile that I absolutely CRUSHED with my sneakers. Anyway, the food was good too. In fact, their burger is quite good, perhaps one of the better burgers I’ve had, certainly in Bed Stuy.
Best fried chicken sando I’ve ever had, beats pop eyes, burger kings, chic-fa-la, mcdees, KFCs, the swans. All together best food many blocks radius here. Recommend a better sound system to owner tho. One love, -Rob
This is a quintessential neighborhood spot! So much so that my husband and I had dinner here when we were looking for apartments last summer and sitting outside at a spot with a wide array of patrons really sealed the deal for us. Food is great, servers and bartenders are friendly, and the vibes are chill.
capt dan is the dog and it’s always a good time. at one point i was eating dinner here 2-4 times a week. burger is good, fries are great, chicken sandwiches are all good. brunch is also good on the weekends! this is my place!
As far as dive bars go, this is a pretty good one. The food is delicious, the drinks are cheap, and there is graffiti in the restrooms. All the classic hallmarks. But Capt Dan's is also great on a warm day when they open the shutters and put patio furniture out. It's pretty unique for the area; dive or not.
An excellent place for happy hour, a snack or a good stuff drink. The food is excellent and the servers are personable and will keep your fed, hydrated and entertained. The outdoor section has an excellent afternoon light, keeping you warm even on chilly days.
This place was a cute little dive It looks a bit run down, but the food was amazing. We had wings, curry burger, tempura cauliflower and fried pickles. All amazing, especially the cauliflower. Our server seemed a bit exhausted, but if you are patient and friendly enough, he came around we even got a smile.
Avian paradise. Being here feels like if Halloween was evergreen. Ambiance in the spaces where you least expect it.
Salad was spectacular! Fried tofu was a solid 10/10.
omg those were the best wings i’ve ever had
I got the Fried Chicken Sandwich Buff Mario style. It’s a lot of food and its exactly what I hoped for if not better. Great drink deals and attentive staff. I WILL RETURN.
Solid when it comes to bar food and I always have a good time here when I've gone with friends. Good summer time bar for outdoor seating. Very helpful when figuring out an issue I had with a charge to my card.
Came here with my boyfriend to grab a bite for dinner because he lives around the way. I ordered the fish and chips and he ordered a burger. My fish was nice and flakey, I like it! My boyfriend said that the burger was great!
I come a handful of times a year and it always slaps!! I usually get the chicken sandwich but you can’t go wrong with anything. I switched it up the bartenders and jinxed or wavy and we had a great time tonight!!
Captain Dan's is a neighborhood staple! Great staff, boozy drinks, and good vibes all around. You gotta get their chicken sandwich! It quite possibly had the largest tomato slice I have ever seen. The chicken itself had a lovely and light crispness like it was a tempura batter. They're crushing it!
Had such a great time here with a group of three! The drinks were all solid in price. They have a bunch of different beer shot options that are $8 to $10. Also got a mango Bellini, which was so freaking good. For food, we got fries, mozzarella sticks, a burger, chicken nachos, and chicken Tinga tacos. All solid food options. The star of the place though is the service. The place was really busy, but we always felt taken care of. excited to go back for trivia night on Tuesdays.
The flavors were layered and well developed. Each dish showed care and skill.
This place is a great and may possibly be one of the best burgers in all of Brooklyn. The bartenders are amazing as well as the rest of the staff. I have dined in and out and was satisfied each time
intimate, great service, great NA options specifically their NA Michilada. Caesar salad is incredible and quality is 10/10
Basically the best bar I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. Amazing food, amazing drinks, amazing friendly staff, even that bathrooms are amazing. Whether im there in the morning or the evening the consistency is consistently consistent!! I love you Captain Dan. I’m a Captain Dan Man!
Probably the swankiest, weirdest little spot in Brooklyn. First off, Captain Dan is the dog—so let’s start there. The dog is memorialized, almost canonized, in paintings throughout the entire place. If he were a real dog, I swear I’d have hair in my mouth. It started off feeling like a house of curiosities and somehow evolved into a full-fledged place you’ll never want to leave—until they make you. The crowd, the bartenders, and the servers were impeccable. They have a drink special listed on the wall. My friend ordered one with bananas. I cringed at first—“Ew”—until I tasted it. It was a delightful, summery splash of a drink. Sneaks up on you too. That’s what a seasoned drinker says after his fourth: “It snuck up on me.” A group of women sat outside and totally captured my attention. Their energy was so magnetic, I ran out, introduced myself, and took their picture. So if you’re looking for a bar with a heartbeat—and the portrait of its namesake greeting you at every turn (ruff ruff)—then this is your place. And yes, I am this dramatic in real life too.
I had the peanut butter burger, which was one of their daily random burgers and it was awesome. This place def has dive bar qualities but don't pass up the cocktails. I really liked the Granny Chaser. They were out of the Danny Devito but Imma come back for it. They also have ponies of Miller Highlife and a solid $8 (or around there) beer and shot special.
TL;DR: Fish and Chips: read no more. Service is good. Atmosphere not everyone’s cup of tea so I will lower that rating, though I personally liked it. Most food is alright. The reason why I am giving this place a 5 star review is because they make the best Fish N Chips that I have ever tried. I have had this like 10 times and they are consistently good. GET THE FISH N CHIPS! Fish N Chips: Freshly cooked, crunchy batter. Fish is juicy and almost melts in one’s mouth. Tartar sauce is out of this world. The fries are fresh but just alright imo. I think these can be improved but the fish with tartar sauce makes up for anything the fries might be lacking. You will not be disappointed. Also beware that the tip is already included. Their drinks are cute as well.
As a self-respecting, self-loving hedonist, I am constantly on a mission to find the best bar food in New York City. Few things are more pleasurable than good company, a cold beer, and some well executed bar food. Captain Dan has a monopoly on bar food. It’s indulgent, delicious, and worth going back for. The portions are massive, so I do recommend sharing.
I always bring my friends here when they visit from out of town. I have been here for both breakfast and Friday night shenanigans. The food is delicious and the drinks are well priced. The decor and atmosphere is quirky and fun. The music rocks whether it be classic hip-hop or a little bit of classic rock I'm always down to boogie. I love this place, everyone in the Stuy should visit!
First time going here in 3 years since this place opened. I literally live one block away. The atmosphere is laid back, but I wasnt a fan of my vegan burger. I felt like who ever made it, tried to rush. Before I could get a bite, the burger was falling apart. The fries were ok and the drinks are pretty decent. I would recommend this place to anyone whose looking to just chill out.
Friendly staff and fast service. Good mix of music to enjoy. The burger was cooked well and sweet tots was fried perfectly. I was very much happy I stopped here for dinner. I would recommend this restaurant to my family and friends.
Quiet classed-up dive with a unique corgi & parrot tiki theme. The chef in the back is incredibly talented, as all the menu items I've eaten have been fantastic! Definitely one of the best fried chicken sandwiches in Brooklyn. Highly recommend their biscuit as well. Good beer selection, a small cocktail menu behind the bar (ask for it), and a nice open window/sidewalk patio for people-watching.
20% autograt beware. Ok. I was going to tip (precisely) 20%. No issue right? Wrong. They *go out of their way* to trick you into thinking you haven't already done that. Extremely shady practice and kinda ruined the otherwise good experience. Good service and food In the replies the proprietor keeps saying they "tell every customer" (like, verbally?) that there's automatic gratuity. Nah. It is listed on the menu for sure, but that was not a claim that's compatible with our experience. Edit: I am *telling you* that we were *not* verbally alerted about the automatic gratuity. If you can find a way to believe that, then maybe you should revisit whether these processes are happening as transparently as you claim they are. People get inebriated at bars and don't check their tab. They shouldn't be swindled out of a 42% tip because they hit 20 after looking at the device for 2 seconds. Other restaurants with autograt will put, very clearly, on their devices "20% + x%" You do not. You make this out as if it is some great thing to guarantee your employees a 20% tip on every order, when you could just make up the difference out of the restaurants profits when people don't tip 20% if you really wanted to. Unsurprising to me that business owners don't do this and instead choose to turn the customer against the waitstaff to avoid any consequences on their bottom line. Many such cases. Rather than offering to let me stiff your employee, who did a good job, consider revisiting this practice, as it is a *very common theme* in your reviews.
as much as I love this place I feel I cannot highly rate a bar that auto charges 20% tip then also asks for a tip when you pay. many customers will likely double tip accidentally due to this practice and it's messed up. it should be made WAY clearer - perhaps the tip options on the iPad should be 1% , 3%, 5% instead of the normal 20-30% for the 'bonus' tip. pretty lame business practice this should be illegal edit: to their credit they did update the tip amounts, I think it's 5, 8, and 10 or something now which is much better. I still don't love that it goes up to 10 but increasing my star rating to 4 since they owners listened to feedback!
Wasn’t expecting this bar to be quite a cool calm spot. My bartender name was Cam, whom delivered quick, friendly and super efficient service. The man has it down pack, I do wish there was a another bartender in the space for such a long bar of course. What can I say about the food… overall it’s really good bar eats. I recall grabbing the pop corn chicken (bbq flava) and the vegetarian burger that’s made from lentils. A friend of mine got the chicken sandwich and loved it also. I’d say real good night overall, the trivia was pretty cool and it’s a calm spot even for a date. Oh yes I forgot, it’s a very white space but it’s like the only bar on that block of Green Avenue so what you’d expect with all the gentry. Be you, no need for code switching 😂.
Drinks & food are superb. Service so so (it was new to be told to get my own water). I wouldn't mind except the 20% added tip to the bill along with the credit card fee (which isn't removed if you pay cash). I've worked in the servive industry for years so I get how annoying it is when there's none to little tip. But if you're demanding 20% tips, the service should be excellent & water included. I'd like to see the basics- I've been here weekly and always have to flag someone down for a menu, drink, or to order & don't get a check in once food arrives. I just feel like I'm getting ripped off by paying for quality service I didn't receive.
Good music, friendly servers, and tasty burgers. Usually do a beer and a shot. Friendly bartenders. A little dark inside.
Nice little place. Sidewalk seating. Great people watching, good food and very good prices. We had the nachos with the pulled pork. Excellent. Smash Burger looked great.
Completely out of veggie options... cool, I get it, it's Brooklyn. Ordered chicken sandwich, it was undercooked and realized it after I took a few bites. They quickly resolved it and made another before I had a chance to tell them to not waste any more food. Asked if the waitress to give it away to someone else because I lost my appetite after that. Was expecting to get comped for the undercooked chicken; the bill arrived and it was still on there. Had to ask for it to be removed. Seemed reasonable to expect that. I'll give it another try some other time but far too many options in the area to run the risk of this again.
I'm very content with our service.... my party had some apps and beer - and they all raved about the food... the wall paper gave it a touch of SoHo.. Service on point- but again I like going early before the crowd. Great place for a sit down and actually have a conversation. I remember this building before it had the bar... a plus for the neighborhood. There is outside sitting. Pricey. Not a 4 or 5 because when I think of a bar - I think of tap beer... not cans (for cans you drink them at home)... i wanted a Lager - and they had some weird options- had to mix a black and tan... Will return to see the service at night.
Great place but the grilled cheese sandwich must be revamped.... I ate there last night and I've been having the worst stomach cramps ever .....I can't keep anything down and it started this morning at 7am... I'm beat. I would suggest them making a simple grilled cheese with sliced cheese and Texas toast instead of making the sauce like concoction. I feel bad, but I'm really sick. I really do love you guys at Dan's! Keep up the awesome atmosphere and the great beers..... but please consider changing the grilled cheese. :-)
Meh. Food is good, but small portions for the high price... Service was not great. All of the four tops had 1 or 2 people at them. Just a waste of space as it got busy. Also they have a 20% automatic tip added in to the checks.
20% gratuity included but the staff very rarely announces it. Food is wildly inconsistent & most often mediocre.
When we got there (2 people) there was only a four top available and the waitress asked if we could go to the bar in case 4 people came in. We accepted but found it rude. At the bar we had maybe a 30-word interaction with the bartender. She took our order and really never chatted with us again. We really did not feel welcome and then we get the bill and 20% gratuity was automatically added. I'm not a cheapskate regarding tips but that 20% was not earned by either of the two workers. If you as a business are going to have the balls to automatically add 20% to each bill then it should be paramount that you're interacting with your customers as a minimum! We left really disillusioned.
I loved the food I loved the drinks. The bartenders are friendly. WHY do you have to enforce a 20 percent tip. WHY???? I feel forced! and brings back bad memories of a waiter at Serafina in midtowm chasing after me demanding more money angrily. Please drop that policy! you already charge 3pct on card. This is not fair!please reconsider. I want to come back
My veggie burger was just okay...it apparently had curry in it which I tasted none of. Fries were great. But the thing that really grinded my gears was the auto 20% gratuity. Look, I always leave 20% no matter what. Sometimes even if the service was bad lol...and ours was good that night and our guy deserved it for sure. But it was JUST my friend and I. TWO PEOPLE. Usually this is added on for parties of 5 or more. So what did I do? We were trying to get out of there, I was distracted and ended up tipping an extra 20%. I had a pic of the receipt later when I was dividing the bill and noticed gratuity was already included. No wonder it was so high. So hey, good for you guys - you got some more money. But why why why an auto gratuity for just 2 people I don't understand. Gonna think again before coming here because it was generally higher priced than desired and the space is cramped. Sorry yall.
Chanced upon this place while in the area and was very happy that I . loved the neighborhood feel and friendly atmosphere. Our waitress was very cool and nice. This actually reminds me of one of the local bars I grew up in my Hometown of Baltimore, very charming and the nineties music playing was awesome! I don't drink but I had one of their house lemonades which was tasty.I had the the brussel sprouts which were to die for! The cheese fries with sour cream were also excellent with the horseradish sauce. The reason I gave only 3 stars is because of the wings. I ordered extra crispy barbecue and that's exactly how they came!! They were excellent tasting and very fresh ,they also came with the horseradish sauce which I guess is the specialty of the house no complaints there either!! When the bill came, I noticed that 6 wings cost $16 I thought that there must have been an error as as I have never paid $2.66 for a chicken wing in my entire life and they weren't even whole wings! I asked the waitress if this was a mistake and she said no, my girlfriend even checked the menu and it's true 6 wings for $16 ,12 for $32 are you serious? For chicken wings? I'm not one to go over the price of anything before I decide, I just order what I want and assume that there is usually some sort of general standard in most bars and restaurants on certain items like French fries, wings, mozzarella sticks sticks ETC. This was definitely an exception. I really enjoyed the wings and would have gone back if it were not for the price; it's too bad ,they were perfection but not worth 16 bucks.
Be aware that they charge you an extra 20% automatic gratuity on your check. The food has 20% already added and then on your check they hope you don’t notice the extra 20% automatic gratuity add. Really weird. 1 drink and a house salad with protein cost $45.00. Sad that they try to pull this stunt… because the place is quite good.
Captain Dan’s Sort of Ok-ish time tavern. Sometimes in business, you have repeat customers that get to know you overtime. Other times, you get one shot. Unfortunately, Captain Dan chose to use their shot to send a cannonball across our Bow. The food was average. Not bad, not amazing, but pretty much what you could find anywhere that serves burgers, fries, fish and chips, etc. The service was pleasant. The difficulty came when after five minutes of shouting, trying to hear one another across the table, we finally had to resort to sitting outside in the chilly night air. I ran a quick online dB meter on it and it was hitting at 115dB (about the level of a chainsaw) When our bill came, there was an automatic 20% service charge. Maybe it was because we had such a large party… There were two of us and we only ordered one dish. Additionally, they automatically included a service fee for a credit card… Which we were not using. So we had to fumble around to subtract whatever they had already added on. All in all, if your idea of a “good time” is hidden charges and possible deafness, I’m sure Captain Dan would welcome you in, we will choose to anchor at safe Harbor elsewhere.
Food was good but the security guy outside was very rude and aggressive immediately when I came to pick up my food. Would recommend but the guy outside need to be retrained. Won’t be ordering online from here
Expectations were not high—the burger was tiny and underwhelming. There are better and more plentiful burgers to be found at this price point. You can expect a 3% credit card fee and mandatory 20% gratuity.
This place's deceptive tipping practices are going easy under the radar here and should be called out more. I recently went for lunch, the service was pretty sub-par, and at the end I accidentally tipped double because it wasn't communicated that gratuity was included. The bartender didn't verbal the auto-grat at all, it's a dive bar, not a Michelin star restaurant, auto-grat on a party of 1 getting a sandwich and a few drinks is unthinkable. You can auto-grat when there's big parties, you can do it when the quality of service is to a standard that at least shows attentiveness, this wasn't that. I've worked 5+ years in restaurants, so I'm not complaining out of ignorance to tipped workers needs, (don't get me started on minimum wage), but this isn't service worthy of assumed 20%. Not going back, plenty of other bars with food in the area with honest practices.
Theres a 20% gratuity added to your order, the waitress doesn't even bring you water you have to go to the front to get it yourself and she was rude. Food was OK but overpriced. Not going back
I really like this place. The staff is friendly. The food is amazing but it’s just too damn expensive nachos and one beer was $40 because they add 20% gratuity to your bill. It’s very overpriced not really worth it if you think about it.
Not outright saying they’re racist but I was sitting down with my friend and boyfriend (Black, Asian and Latino) and we were literally the ONLY ones not waited on. I watched the waitress go to every other table besides us. We were the only people of color there at this time so idk it was weird. We ended up getting up and leaving
I want to like this place so bad. I’ve lived a block away for years and the food is good and the servers are friendly. Just be prepared to feel like you’re getting nickeled and dimed for everything. First, it’s the 20% auto gratuity for every bill. I always tip 20% anyways so fine. Whatever. Then it was charging for mayo. Let me repeat that. CHARGING FOR MAYO. Now, on my most recent visit for the first time in a year, they've started charging 3% for using a credit card (was hard for me to find any signage that disclosed this which is required by NYC law.) So finally with tax, you are paying an extra 30%+ on top of your bill no matter what. I would come here so much more if it wasn’t for these folk’s obsession with charging you extra fees. There is not a single other bar in the vicinity that treats their customers like this. Very frustrating!
The good - service, and nice people. As for the rest - For this price… nah, food’s not worth the $. overpriced. Lemonade - from the bottle.. coke was flat, ran out of amaretto.. wings are barely mediocre, burger is maybe worth $6-7. fries are ok.. but for food served in baskets, and slow service (due to being understaffed) I feel it’s a lil unjustified 20% automated gratuity.. not even sure that’s legal.. but didn’t say anything cause we tip 20% anyhow.. At this price point - go to Brooklyn Public House, much more bang for your buck… 🤷♀️
i just ate here and got the worst food poisoning. honestly the sandwich tasted great but i can't realistically go back here :(
Very poor service ! Horrible actually ! Good was average. Only reason we came in was to try new spots in our neighborhood and this place looked swanky !
They're trying to cheat unwitting customers out of their money. First, there's an automatic gratuity of 20% for every table, regardless of party size. We were only two and still got charged. I felt this was wrong, but was willing to ignore it since they were clearly understaffed and I thought the one server working deserved it. What really annoyed me was that they asked for a significantly greater tip at checkout. If you pay with your card, the minimum on-screen tipping option is 20%. So basically, if you don't read the fine print on the menu or read through the bill, you may end up tipping an additional 20-30%, thereby paying a total of 40-50% in tips for the night. This is a predatory business practice. I'm sure a lot of customers fall for this. My friend almost did. What they need to do is adjust the on-screen tipping options to something reasonable like 4%, 6%, 8%. This way customers only pay a maximum of 28% in tips. Or they could just do away with the auto gratuity, which is already pretty absurd. They really should feel ashamed.
Putting 1 star because the staff was very nice I feel bad writing this post, I just want to warn people about the food. The food was not what it used to be in 2019-2020. The delicious wedge salad has turned into “grilled salad“ that taste like the dirty grill. I ordered scrambled eggs with cheese I didn’t taste it in fear I would get sick. The drinks were good and I didn’t even mind the 20-32% gratuity added to my bill. The place used to be packed ..today we were one of 2 customers on a Saturday at noon. Please get the food back to how it used to be.
I quickly walked in here to buy some Underberg. it was like 14 bucks. The bartender automatically charged me 20%. I don't mind tipping but I thought tipping was something the customer decided not the business. I am not tripping about the percentage more so the audacity. This seems to be an ongoing thing in NYC. owners should pay their employees appropriately and stop putting the burden on customers.
It’s a bar…yet you refuse entry just because someone has a passport? There being a door man at a simple dive bar was already a red flag, and it proved to be accurate as he didn’t let my girlfriend in due to her only having a passport and not a US ID. College bar type behavior. Won’t be returning.
The most unprofessional tavern in bedstuy brooklyn. If you want good service don't eat here. The man at the front taking orders doesn't know how to properly count, speaks disrespectfully and when I asked for a large pina colada he gives me this baby sippy cup see attachment for proof. Along with not notifying me on the difference in size of cups. He charged me $13 for a small sippy cup and never gave me my change back. If you want quality don't eat here.
I’ve been to this bar 10+ times. I just sat at the bar for real time 22 minutes. Was never handed a menu, greeted, anything. Bartender was aloof and incredibly slow. Why under staff the place on a Saturday night? Makes no sense
Taker under consideration that before you even sit down this place decide for you to add 20% tip regardless to the service you'll get, the amount of people or the total bill. I broth it up and shared it with the waiter, I asked him " Can you please forward my feedback?!" his best answer was, "but nobody complains about it". Luckily I noticed it before we ordered food, so we left. One thing for sure, that was my first and last time there!
