Do or Dive Brooklyn Reviews
Funky dive bar with loud vibes and quirky bar crowd/staff. Shuffleboard is available and patio if it’s the right time and season. Super crowded on the weekends, if that’s not your vibe.
Amazing cocktails (also if you like pickle backs you can't leave without trying the Do or Dine rendition--unlike anything you'll get anywhere else). The food is wildly inventive and wonderfully yummy-- despite the fact that I am pescatarian there is plenty for me to indulge in (though people I was with wouldn't stop fawning over the beef heart). The fish and chips are great, flavorful and crispy and I love the wasabi tobiko addition. The grilled Caesar salad is awesome. I also really love the atmosphere in th back garden and I hear they have really great parties there with live music all summer long. I am definitely coming back to check that out. And for more pickle backs.
From the people that brought you Skinny Dennis, come get your 32oz Budweiser fix on or snag a coffee drink and grab a seat in the backyard. Dog-friendly, you can bring your own food in AND THEY PLAY JEOPARDY EVERY DAY. You’re welcome.
Awesome relaxed place where similarly named restaurant used to be. Full of quirky memorabilia from times gone by. Bar staff are great. Drinks are a good price.
Classic dive bar with a large selection of taps and some fun specials! The real gem is the backyard patio! Good vibes!
Stopped by for happy hour while doing laundry. I had a great time!! The bartender was the best and the beer list is great! I highly recommend this bar.
We basically spent all day on the patio. Good beer selection and good cocktails. Prices are good, dog friendly place.
Super dive bar, with great cheap drinks. If you are looking for a dive bar, this is the place to go. They have two great specials called Ring of Fire, and a Highlife with a well shot.
Good place to drink. BYOF. BRING YOUR OWN FOOD. You can have a pizza delivered. 👍🏽 Great atmosphere. No drama. No stress.
I bring my dog Reggie here on dates and drinks with friends. Reggie gets tons of attention from the staff and patrons, and I get to drink nutcrackers away from the beach and enjoy their back patio. Great neighborhood spot.
Great bar the vintage beer signs are on point. The bartender missy was very polite quick and reminded me of a female version of tom cruise from cocktail, juggling and flipping bottles in the air . She also does amazing magic so dont be shy to ask for a trick or two, your mind will be blown! Also ask for a picture of her dog cutest puppy in the world.
I can vouch that the tecate is cold, the margaritas do not cause acid reflux(They're pretty damn good), the picklebacks are a must and the Whiskey sours are the bomb. I have been here twice and the Tuesday was just as crowded as the Saturday that I went ..loud but good crowd.
This place is a great oasis in the middle of bedstuy. It might be hard to get to, or not, but regardless it is worth the trip. Hands down the best chicken and waffles ever, and their duck was cooked to perfection. Their menu definitely have some interesting combinations but I haven't been disappointed with one thing I ordered. I don't know why anyone else hasn't thought of turning nachos into dumplings before but the world should never be the same. I got them as an appetizer and then when it came time for desert I ordered them again :$
Doesn't get better than this. The people, the atmosphere, the bartenders are all super amazing. Don't expect a ritzy glitzy space... but it is comfortable and fun! Love you DoD!!
If you're a dog or animal person this place is the best bar in a big radius. Atmosphere is great, people are down to earth and lovely. Wish we had found it sooner!
Had a great night here with my wife and father-in-law. Great atmosphere and decor paired with an unusual good tasting menu. Loved sitting at the bar before hand taking in the vibe.
Got into Brooklyn last night. Finished the evening here. Great bar with really nice folks. Made me feel like a local. I had a blast and will make it my last stop again tonight!
Friggin' great. Everything you want in a Brooklyn dive. Respectably spaced out and seperated between tables during COVID. Very empty during early afternoon on a Wednesday, happy to support the local business without putting the staff at risk. (I'm vaccinated but still trying to be safe for others.) Cool people. Great prices. A+ will be back.
Retro brewery brand junk and sign jungle blessed with a plethora of cheap beer and an always incredible nice staff. 32oz Budweiser for $5 all the way up to a $7 max price on drafts in general makes this one of my favorite dives. Add a kick-ass backyard, a range of mostly garage-, surf-, punk- and noise-rock DJ's, a Shuffleboard, tiki-nights, room for puppies.... Well...
Fun and odd. The "fish on some chips" is quite a sight. The fish was crispy and nice, though it required being careful of bones. Nippon nachos were delicious; they were sort of like little tacos but in shumai wrappers or something.
One of my favorite bars (if not my number 1) in all of NYC. Backyard is wonderful, drinks are cheap and atmosphere is great.
You wanna get drunk? Look no further! D-or-D has $3 miller lights and $5 32oz Buds. Backyard is great when it’s open and rumor has it a dog or two might be allowed in from time to time.
Best spot, best bartenders, best place to make new friends in Bed Stuy. Great coffee drink of course also.
Nice neighborhood bar. Dog friendly. No more shuffle board table. Covered back yard. All the staff are friendly, really great people. Still a great bar.
Cheap ($8 for a giant mimosa, $5 for a shot and a beer), cheerful (free shuffle board) and dog-friendly. Even if you don’t live anywhere near here, go out of your way to try it.
Classic dive bar - super loud, packed, and only classic/well drinks. Generous pours for a great price though and an upbeat and happy vibe if that's what you are looking for!
One of the best "dive" bars in the neighborhood. Check it out on weeknights at 7:00 to catch an episode of Jeopardy. They do not serve food anymore. A lot of these reviews are from the restaurant that used to be here, Do or Dine.
My new favorite bar, nice drink specials, cool dogs hanging out, and Jeopardy playing on an old black & white TV. Also the bartender was great and good crowd, will be back!
so good I have the t-shirt to prove it! I love this bar.. the space where the bar is located has change over the years, but the awning has stayed the same. Now its a great bar with amazing drinks and proactive bar tenders. The back yard is open when the weather is nice, they also have seating out front on the side walk (no indoor due to covid19). The prices are great and they'll even put together a little to go order for you.
Great service and on the Saturday I was here they had free food at a cookout in the back. Drinks were fairly priced and the red cup beer was $5 for ALOT of beer. Start or end your night.
Finally!!! A bar in Brooklyn that doesn't overcharge for drinks. Not only are their prices good, the music is great and the place overall look and feel is awesome. Seriously, this place has a great vibe and from the look of it lots of dedicated patrons. Next time I'm in town I will definitely stop in for a few drinks.
First let’s say that we knew we found the perfect dive bar before we walked in. Went for some beers at 3 in the evening and ended up back again at like 1am! A dog had a purple sweater on! A dude was playing a careless whispers on the saxophone, the drinks were great! Laney the bartender was awesome! Do or Dive definitely coming back next time I’m in town.
I have been to many bars in my lifetime, but Do or Dive truly tops the list. I had a delightful vodka water and almost fell in love TWICE. Unheard of in this economy! I would have given this bar 4 stars, because the bathroom line was dead quiet. Not the typical bathroom banter I am used to. Nonetheless, the over experience made up for any lost vibes. Five stars, Highly recommend- z$
The staff members are amazing. Friendly and courteous.
All the bartenders are rad. Cheap drinks, and a nice backyard. They have space heaters, but I would still recommend bundling up if you plan on spending a while there. Jeopardy night is always fun too. Can’t wait to sit inside again!
This is a great dive! Cheap drinks, good service AND you can bring your dog!! They also have a fabulous backyard! It doesn't get much better than that, for a neighborhood local!
Viktor will take care of you. He’s the best. You won’t have to ask for anything because he’ll ask you if you’re good and then take care of you.
Backyard is great. My aperol spritz was hefty and quite delicious!!! I met some.cute dogs in the back area. Cool chill people as well! Fun photo booth if you're up.for it:)
An amazing spot! definitely a place for locals. you can bring your dog if you’re in with the crowd and it’s a cute dog. would definitely recommend the “something coffee” drink LOL so random but so good!!! can’t wait to go back
Joey is the best bartender! He remembers your favorite drink and your name! Also has lots if outdoor benches in the back, as well as the street side. Watch Jeopardy every night and take a guess!
Absolutely loved this place. Quite upscale for a dive bar but still very fun vibes. Great drinks and music. Had lots of fun here!
This bar is great and it's laid back. You can bring well behaved pets. There is a backyard. Bring your friends and enjoy the atmosphere and the drinks.
Well you do it if you want to, but it's certainly a dive! However, I tell you, the best margarita I ever had made by the tattoo guy and it was reasonably priced. Loud millenniums everywhere, but they were well behaved! Not my favorite spot, but go for the experience and the Margarita!
Do or Dive rules, plain as day. Decent prices, a big menu, seasonal drinks, and small food offerings are what to expect. The interior is your classic, cramped, neon lit bar, and the backyard is filled with seating, an outdoor bar, and games. The changes of meeting a dog here are approximately 75%
Great atmosphere, always fun vibe and good beers. I live in the area and this is a very reliable standby. Would recommend to anyone who is not pretentious and likes a bit of clutter in their watering hole.
Go to dive bar. It’s a fun time and what you would expect. Backyard is a nice addition and people can be social esp in the summer.
The security guard Bruce and bartender Steven are both amazing! Great service, so sweet and both make you feel safe and welcome! We had an amazing experience thanks to them ☺️
Do or Dive bar is a quaint neighborhood establishment that has a "Friends" type of vibe. With a backyard you can smoke and drink in peace amongst quiet chatter & friends. The place is awesome...
the sign above the door says it best: "You are always welcome here."
Quite simply one of the best dive bars you’ll ever visit. Try a Bad Dad (yes that’s vodka and pedialyte). Friendly bartenders, dog-friendly, nice spacious backyard…10/10!
I'm a 55 year old global dive bar affectionato … The staff here goes above and beyond for the level of dive bar that you expect; everyone was so kind and welcoming. The bar back helped me find my way to the bathrooms with which are rightfully hidden behind graffiti. The bartender Daisy knew it was my first time and was very accommodating and helped me get a seat and make sure my drink never got empty. This is a high-end bar with a dive bar vibe. These people are professionals and they will take care of you. You get your moneys worth here. 5/5 would repeat. The only negative thing I have to say about this bar is that you have to go downstairs to take a piss lol
The vibes are really fun, and it’s also dog friendly. Huge backyard area and friendly staff!
This is a dive bar that attracts all sorts of folks from the neighborhood. Fun staff. Unpretentious.
Great spot for casual drinks with friends. Bartenders are friendly and attentive. They even have live DJs playing some nights and they always set the best vibe!!
Visiting from Canada, we couldn't be more pleased. The bartenders made us feel like we were regulars. The other patrons were regulars and were extremely friendly. Thanks to the bartenders and 1 specific patron (thanks Niles) for making our evening spectacular . Go to this place, you won't be disappointed
Fun local bar with a nice backyard but beware of mosquitoes. The bartenders here are always super nice and attentive. It gets packed and seating inside is pretty limited considering the crowds of people who gather here. Drink prices are decent compared to other nearby bars.
Such a fun bar! Came here to celebrate my brother in law’s bday and we had a great time! Solid prices, friendly and attentive bartenders, and the vibes are great. It doesn’t get uncomfortably packed like other bars in the city do so this place is great for groups or for a date night. Made the trek from Yonkers and it was totally worth it! Hope to come back soon, highly, highly recommend this place!!
We have been here twice while on our trip…and plan to go again. It’s a local haunt, with the occasional out of towners like us. The place has a great vibe totally living up to its name and reminds us of pubs in Ireland a and the UK. Jowi (Yes he spells it this way) handles the Happy Hour with a good natured dry wit, balancing orders and banter without a hitch. It’s quite an interactive show to watch. He greeted us by name on the second visit, asking how our day went, making us feel like locals 👍👍. They weren’t serving food when we were there but let you bring in take out from elsewhere. The prices are good as well, and not just by New York standards. If you are in the area, Do Dive right in!
This is one of those classic dive bars you love to find, exuding history and kitsch and vintage flourishes mixed with a kind crowd of regulars. The bartender who served us was chummy and garrulous, with an eye on his known clients who came ready to chat about life, sports, and the like. The cool Wisconsin Pilsner on tap was refreshing and potent, and we washed it down at a corner table surrounded by old antique glass, lights, and beer signs popping off the dark walls with a neon glaze. In every corner your eye wanders you find a spark of outsider art or conversation piece. We spied an outdoor back patio that called out for warmer moods. The brew was priced for sessions. Stop by.
My new favorite bar.... I wish I lived in NY! Our team was working in the park and this place was halfway home. They don't care what you wear and aren't weird about backpacks (we had tools and laptops to take home). Drinks are inexpensive, they have twisted tea (a colleague was searching everywhere for it), a decent wine selection and plenty of standard cocktails and beer. Love love love the decor! Dollar bills on the ceiling, poetry on the tables, skulls in the floor and vintage neon everywhere! It's like a hipster Cheers, but I'm a good way. Definitely have recommended it to my friends passing though and hope to be back soon!
Very nice people and also very nice music, after 10 pm it gets very crowded so if you want to have a table better arrive early
Very good vibes. Can get extremely busy here during peak times- they'd benefit from a seating rearrangement, or an extension to use the backyard space besides the times where it's nice outside.
Nice place in the neighborhood. Drinks priced just right. Dog friendly. Believe I saw a back garden although I didn't go back to see.
Nice spot for jukebox tunes and dive bar specials. Beer/shot combos are cheap, and jeopardy plays on an 8 inch rounded tv screen each weeknight. Overall a great experience!
Do or Dine was a surprisingly diverse culinary experience. Hidden in the corners of not-yet-gentrified-Bed Stuy, the quirky decor, relaxed staff and awesome menu made it super awesome. You'll have to look for it, as it's disguised as a West Indian restaurant, but thoroughly worth the trip. They even have something for the vegan in your party :)
No coffee?! Does not matter how hip you are trying to be. You must have coffee after brunch. I gave it 4 stars because they are creative and try new recepies, otherwise it would be a 3 star place despite the health inspection "B" rating. Not so thrilled with choice of music while eating although disco ball was interesting.
I had dinner at Do or Dine. I really liked it. I think it is a bite overpriced for the area, to be honest. I live really close to there, it is not a place to go often as a local. But the food is really delicious! They have pimientos del padrón! Yesterday I went for a special party and It was really cool.
This is a dive bar and jeopardy at 7pm! Great staff and backyard
Great drink deals, don't go if faux dive bars make you uncomfortable. It's likely due to reasons out of their control, but they closed their kick-ass back patio early in the evening, makes it extremely crowded in the small interior with almost no seating.
Love this bar, all the bartenders are great except for the chubby Hispanic one, who was obnoxious and rude. Happy to see I wasn’t the only one with an issue in the reviews. Get a different job bro, you’re ruining the vibe.
I loved my steak, just disappointed that it was so small and cut into slices. They have a great knack for combining great flavors, making a unique menu and mixing up a specialty drink. I was not a fan of the neighborhood, come to Manhattan and I'll reserve a table!
This is a really cool spot for enjoying all kinds of crazy dishes and eclectic drinks. The Whole Fish & Some Chips is out of this world! I especially enjoy the octopus appetizer! This place is young, hip and full of creative flavor and fun food.
A fun a lovely bar. I went on Pride Sunday so I’m not sure how it usually is. There’s no food but you can bring food in. The security guard is so kind and treats you like family.
An extremely solid dive bar that gets pretty busy whether it’s a weekend evening, or even a weekday afternoon! They have a solid bar with a good amount of seating, along with some booths you can sit in as well! They also have an outdoor area that is decently spacious for when it’s warm out! On weekdays there is a great bartender named Joey who works there, he’s funny and a little weird and I love it! Overall, can’t go wrong if you’re looking for a solid affordable bar!
Classic dive bar. Bartenders are a bit pretentious, but hey, you are in BK. Place is always packed. Solid place to grab a couple of beers with friends.
Before coming here, I had read some reviews on Serious Eats about the comedic twists that the chefs here take on dishes, and I was bracing myself for a menu that tried too hard to be funny and cheeky. However, I admit it was entertaining to ask the waitress what exactly the "chicken and woffals" was (roasted chicken with a liver paté side—and the waffles themselves enriched with a little bit of liver mixed into the batter) or whether the "Nippon nachos" actually were nachos at all (they weren't, so much as they resembled vegetable pot stickers deep fried à la nacho toppings). We also tried the lamb breast seasoned with cumin, which was high in fat content but seasoned thoroughly. Overall, a satisfying if not very heavy meal. Be prepared to trek down Bedford Avenue since it's not near any subway stations (about a 10-15 minute walk to Nostrand Avenue on the A). One suggestion I would advise to the patrons is a new tarp for their outdoor seating area. The green canopy they have hung up now casts a putrid alien color on all the tables on their patio, giving the dining experience a bit of an X-Files feel. I sometimes like my food extraterrestrial, but I never like my Instagrams to look that way!
I didnt love this place. It was super crowded but weirdly it didnt seem like there was a crazy amount of people there — it just kinda filled up quick if that makes sense. The drinks are fine. Pretty standard Brooklyn dive bar kind of stuff. This place just wasnt my thing
Definitely a dive bar like they claim to be. There is an outdoor space but its all cigarette smoke and mosquitos. The crowd is loud, young, white, and not looking to spend too much. Upside, if youre looking for a place off the beaten path this is somewhere to check out for yourself.
Stopped there to get a quick drink with my business partner before flying out. Very busy on a a midday Saturday. Drink prices was reasonable. Pet friendly, decor was a bit too cluttered for me. First time there and bartender service was below average, took him a while to acknowledge us Some how I didn’t like the vibe. There a much more bars in the area that are welcoming
Still a solid bar but went from being cheap to very much not so over the past few years (e.g. $5 boilermaker is now $9) at the same time that some of the better bartenders have moved on. Still have a soft spot for this place, but it's not what it once was.
This is NOT a dive bar. This is a theme bar, where the theme is dive. Embarrassing. Go to Tip-Top if you're a real head.
Later for tbis place. They treated me and my friends ( three African Americans). Bad. I put a tab up, a 50 bill and bartender put ot up to the lights for 10 minutes and put on counter also looking at it. I was the ONLY one ask for proof of vaccination. We seem OTHER people walk in and ask nothing. So my other friend showed up and after 10 people walk in ONLY he was ask if he was vaccinated. And we has business attire on not that it makes a difference. So we walked the ...... out.
Usually have a great time here, it’s our fave bar in the neighborhood. I’m a Brooklyn native who’s lived in bedstuy for 8 years. Whoever was Bartending tonight, douchebag with the handlebar mustache needs to be fired... really standoffish and rude, I’m a bartender too- there’s no reason to act that way especially when I’m easy (beer and shot and a ginger ale) and I’m tipping 30% every time. Will only come back on the weekends when I know the lady bartenders are there. This guy put me all the way off
Terrible service! Was there on night with my girlfriend, she lives around the area and we were trying out new spots. William the bartender was rude and gave a terrible service, had to wait a long time for a beer and it seem like he was annoyed by me asking for more drinks. When I confronted him and asked him where are my drinks he got mad at me and literally told me to get out. A nice night out with my girl turn out to be a terrible night because of him. Never coming back here again!
They saw me finishing my beer outside and wouldn’t let me in — in spite of the fact that I was not drunk and all my friends were inside celebrating an important night. Bouncer was rude.
Drinks were good and bartenders were very sweet. Had an unfortunately very bad interaction while using the bathroom band was threatened with physical violence by one of the male workers because of it. Very cute spot, but as a woman would not recommend. There are better bars with a nicer crowd in the area, and bedstuy locals do not go here.
