Gargiulo's Brooklyn Reviews
The restaurant is beautiful and the food is really outstanding. The atmosphere and staff is great ! The fettuccine, pasta with meat sauce, & ravioli are some of my favorites along with their desserts. Basically, I like everything that they make. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to eat delicious Italian food..
Had dinner here after my son's baptism; food was great, service was great! Absolutely love the baked clams as it is so hard to find good baked clams nowadays. The place is beautiful and big. My husband's job always throws parties here and never a problem. Food is always great, staff is very friendly and sweet. They are pretty pricey but it is a fancy place so gotta expect that.
This beautiful restaurant is like respite from reality, a piece of Italy in the heart of Coney Island. It really does have the ambiance of an old movie scene, their stone, marble, meticulous at every turn. You see the Owner's greeting the patrons, some are screaming over joyed, shocked from winning the number game. The staff is always right there serving you. Family friendly, beautiful wedding venue, fine dining, wine tasting, bar, private rooms, photo opp. Ciao
Great food, great service, great ambiance, great people. It's a very traditional Italian restaurant with a lot of history. Great place to bring the family and friends for a night out. Formal or business casual but not at all stuffy. If you're dressing down a little, you'll be fine - No one will say anything but you may feel out of place. Just wear slacks and a polo shirt and you'll feel fine. Prices are a little high, but not too bad. Servings are generous. There's valet parking and at night, neighborhood parking is easy. If coming for a summer afternoon lunch, then use the valet. Nice clean bathrooms.
Amazing place with delicious food and fantastic customers service. Had dinner with family for my husband's birthday and were impressed by welcoming greetings, very friendly and intelligent staff. Thanks to Chase (hope, I spelled the name correctly), our waiter for good recommendations from menu - food was delicious!!!! - and for being very friendly to us! Thanks to Anthony, the owner, for having a minute to speak with us!!! We, definitely, will be returning to this amazing place, to have more and more wonderful time! The sweet end of the evening with amazing tiramisu and fantastic cappuccino- nothing can be the best! Thank you to all the restaurant's staff and our best wishes for your business development!!!
I used to live in sea gate Brooklyn for a year in 1979 I decided to take myself and try Gargulios for an early dinner. The food was so wonderful and incredibly the very well dressed man in a very expensive Italian suit having dinner with a beautiful lady sat a few tables over. The waitress came over and said the man would like to pay for your dinner as a lady should never have to eat alone 🌸
Delicious food, beautiful space, and impeccable service. Truly the nicest restaurant in the area. Some of the best food I’ve ever had. You won’t regret coming here!
Can not say enough great things about this fantastic place. Food was amazing, servers were attentive. Everything about it was amazing. The food was by far the best Italian food I've ever tasted.
Always a great experience at Garguilos! We have been here several times for holidays, parties and just dinner. Experience is always the same excellent food and service. Definitely recommend going during Christmas time as they decorate the Resturant and have people signing Christmas songs during dinner. They also have excellent desserts and valet service. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a great Italian dinner night in Brooklyn.
I went there for a bridal shower and there were about fifty of us under a very large tent. They had several tents as they converted a circular side driveway. The food was good. Service was great. We had a lovely time. The weather was perfect. You could hear the subway but that's the way it is. Otherwise it was a lovely time had by all. Great place to have a bridal shower. They have a parking lot right across the street.
Went for the clambake on Aug 23rd. It was fantastic. Clams crabs shrimp lobster soup pasta chicken & steak skewers..all you could eat. Free wine and beer. Steel band were excellent. Hope they do it again!!!
Everything you need in one place. The best food, incredible helpful and attentive staff ,and the elegance required for a special occasion. Will definitely choose them again in the future.
This place is so cool and classic! The food is delicious. Michele waited on us and did an awesome job. Great spot for a special occasion! Definitely get the seafood risotto!
The place is fabulous. I've always wanted to go and today I finally did. I took my mom today for her birthday and she had a great time. The food, the service, the dessert and drinks. It's worth every penny. My mom, my aunt, and myself, we had a blast.
Incredible Service, Amazing Food.
Went there today with family for Easter dinner, they had a set menu to select from(which I usually don’t like) it was exceptional! From the appetizers to the dessert, it was all Delish and the portions were excellent! To top it off, the service was impeccable and as busy as they were~the bread came nonstop as well as the drinks. Our waiter was Dino and I have to say, I was extremely impressed with his level of service, Thank you so much for everything! We cannot wait to come back!!
We’ve been doing an annual continuing education event here for several years and were excited to return after going online during the pandemic. The staff did not disappoint. They were exceptional in creating a safe outdoor environment that minimized the likelihood of conflicts over the latest guidelines. They were attentive and creative in addressing the needs of each of our 100 guests. The space was beautifully prepared, and the food was delicious. While passing the kitchen on the way to the restroom, I got an added bonus. I watched two crew members slicing meat from the leg of a cow! Although I do not eat meat, it was impressive. You can’t get much fresher than that! I could also see how clean the kitchen was. I have always had a good experience here and look forward to future visits.
Amazing experience! We felt special from the moment we entered this really nice establishment . The ambience and service are too notch and they have a lottery in the end of your dinner, where you guess a number and the waiter pulls out a number of a bow and if it matches your number your food so free and it happened to us! Strongly recommend and will 100% return!
A really special experience. Gorgeous, classy atmosphere with great soft music and good quality food. Fresh Italian bread. Staff was friendly and attentive, and knowledgeable about the history of the area. My mom came here decades ago and was overjoyed to return again. One of my best experiences in NYC. Thank you!
Gargiulo's is very famous. Been around for years. Been here many times for different occasions and dinner. Food is delicious and elegantly served. Nothing not to like except the prices. Can't come here if you're on a budget but if you have the means, its definitely a nice dining experience. Unfortunately, dining out, like everything else has become so expensive. All that said, Gargiulo's is a fine dining experience and I would recommend it.
We had our wedding reception at Gargiulo’s and it was absolutely amazing. All of our friends were raving about the food. Rae kept our event organized and running smoothly. Lucy and the rest of the competent staff took great care of our guests. I definitely recommend hosting your private event at Gargiulo’s!
Had a lovely family dinner here the other night. Food and drinks were delicious. The service was excellent. Shoutout to our waiter, Emilio.
My dad and I came here to grab dinner and absolutely loved it here! The service was excellent and the food was fantastic!
I've lived in Brooklyn my whole life, and I have never been to Gargiulo's up until now. My wife on the other hand has and spent our entire time on the quick drive to Gargiulo's talking about how good the food is....so naturally I was expecting ok food and service because that's my luck. Upon arrival, valet service was professional and efficient. The staff were welcoming and helpful, guiding us to our event hall. The food was spectacular, and risotto was my favorite and highly recommended. My only complaint was how an older gentleman treated the staff. I observed him personally treat a couple of the staff in a manner that I felt was completely out of line. When I asked the staff member, "What's his problem? " The staff member had class and shrugged it off and said nothing bad about this person. They exhibited more class and respect than this person deserved. Kudos to the staff. I highly recommend this place.
Always a pleasure eating here. Food is good, service is great, and the atmosphere is like a small family restaurant. I've been here seven times and it is my go to place for a good meal at a reasonable price.
My husband has been taking me here for our anniversary for years now. I absolutely love this place. The food, the atmosphere and the service is A1.
Went for an event that my mother was helping to host. Food was great. Space was very nice. It had a small indoor waterfall that is very interesting. Only low point, and one which won't impact diners who havens rented the space for a function, was that when the event organizers asked for service to stop in order to create absolute silence for the keynote speaker, their supervisor seemed to have some disagreement with that. If it hasn't been my mom speaking with the supervisor, I probably wouldn't have noticed anything. Again, food was great.
I have been going here for over 35 years. The food is excellent and the service is pristine. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Anytime there is a special occasion we go to Gargulios. They have been there for my family for all occasions. I will always go to them in the future for future occasions.
Our first time here was to celebrate a friend’s birthday! The food was fantastic, fresh and plentiful. The staff was outstanding, very attentive and professional! The two hour drive was worth every mile to be with special friends and delicious food! Win-win!
Classic Brooklyn spot with the boroughs best Italian cuisine. Pricy but you get what you pay for here.
78 years after my grandparents and the entire family gathered there for an engagement party, visited with my family this past Sunday for my belated birthday dinner. Lobster was amazing, everyone enjoyed their meals and the ambiance and then went across the street to ride the cyclone with my sister. Great day!
Been going here for 50 years. Classic Italian food - whatever your favorite dish, they do it better. Can be very crowded - place where big wigs and gourmands go to eat. Casual dress-up required, biz casual recommended - no summer attire. Family owned and operated forever. Baked clams are excellent; fresh seafood and lobster tank, veal, chicken, pastas: you can't go wrong.
Impressive dining room. Great aroma when you enter. Polished service with a friendly touch. Menu had many classic offerings all done very nicely. It can get loud here.
Fantastic food, great service and a really Italian restaurant with home cooked meals.
I have been going here for many years. This is one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn. When you walk in you feel like you are visiting an old friend. The food is wonderful. I love that you can look into the spotless kitchen and watch them prepare your meal and if that isn't enough tbe owner stops by and chats. I often ask for items not on the menu and it is never a problem. I have had parties in the large event rooms and they are always the best. Can't wait to visit the Jersey location.
My first time back since I was a kid in 1978. It’s still fabulous. My grandmother lived across the street as a teenager. So many memories celebrating there. Order the clams, you will not be disappointed. Classic, traditional Italian dishes done simply elegantly.
I had my wedding at Gargulios in July 2022. Anthony was so helpful and accommodating. Our wedding reception was a memorable and fabulous event. Our family and friends raved about the beautiful setting, delicious food and great service that Gargulios provided. We couldn’t be happier with our wedding, it was perfect! I can’t thank Anthony and Gargulios enough for making our day so special and unforgettable! Thank you!!
I had a wonderful time here! The food was delicious, especially the veal. My friend ordered veal marsala and I ordered veal piccata (special request on my part). The accompanying vegetables were wonderful too. On top of all of that, the service, setting, and music (a lot of Frank Sinatra) were very nice as well. However, come dressed decently. We were initially turned away and had to go get a new pair of shorts for my friend (who due to a disability usually wears a special pair of dark gym shorts).
An exceptional New York dining experience that is a must try. Whether you are a local or visiting Coney Island, this place is a MUST try. They offer some of the most special lunch and dinner selections that is some of the best Italian styled food around. Make sure to dress for the occasion and, even better, have a reservation. If you come here decked in full out beachwear, you will be asked to leave. The waiters know what they’re doing and are very speedy with serving people, the pasta was so delicious along with the baked clams that we had as an appetizer. The main course I got was the chicken veal Parmesan dish. Was perfection on a plate! The history of the restaurant goes back about hundred years or more, and they have still got it after all this time
After submitting a disappointing review here a few weeks ago, I want to mention that the owner contacted my friend who had made the original reservation and had great concern regarding the poor review I had written. He offered a gift certificate for us to return and give his restaurant another try. So we did go back last week to have lunch and I do have to say, what a big difference! The server was most friendly, efficient and caring. It was lunchtime, so we didnt order appetizers, but the order the risotto pescatore which was very good, fresh and arrived piping hot. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse cake which was light and quite delicious. I suppose there can be off nights everywhere, and I am glad we had the opportunity to give Gargulios another try! Thank you for the opportunity!
We love this restaurant! We went for dinner. We ordered eggplant parm, seafood pasta & escarole with garlic & olive oil. For the seafood pasta, it was supposed to be “Risotto Pescatore”, but I asked the server to make it with angel hair and it was so amazing!!! The eggplant parm was served lasagna style and my fiancé loved it! The atmosphere is great, service was amazing, food absolutely killed it! When we asked for the check, the server asked us to pick a and, after shaking a box of numbers, if it matched, we would only have to pay for drinks, the meal is on them. Unfortunately, we didn’t make win. Overall, great place for a date night! We would love to go back!
I was dining alone and was treated very generously by the staff here. Thank you! The food was delicious too.
Just had the Christmas firm dinner tonight for a party 13 💝 Tasted a bunch of different apps but the stuffed artichoke special was amazing! Also, had the Rib steak and side of spinach. Didnt have room on my phome to take pics of all the food. 🙈 They were very accommodating of my small 5 lb. Service dog and i love that their history dates back to 1907! 🤩 Wish they had some milk alternatives for the coffee. The special salad w pistachios, craisins, and arugala was delicious! Was a fun time in Coney Island!
AMAZING FOOD!!!! My friend told me to try this placed when I visited and it did not disappoint thank you to our server Emilio for such great service
This restaurant is a magical place. The food the staff, the ambiance and the food (yeup repeating that) is incredible.
First I like would like to thank This fine establishment for giving a wonderful Thanksgiving free dinner to the community Inside was beautiful and spacious Kindness was being served 🫶🏿 to top it all off the food was delicious I love Italian and when I do come back I want to be dressed up and try their food ; With rising costs with everything rent etc This establishment did a kind and generous service all with kindness and a smile Just wanted to give a generous Thank you !!
Chicken Scarpariello, Veal chop, Pork chop, baked clams and mussels in red sauce were all delicious. Tiramisu for dessert was yummy. All three of us enjoyed our meal as well as the cocktails and wine. Service was attentive and impeccable. It's a great old place; very classy. I recommend it highly. There is a dress code so if you go to Coney Island beach make sure you have change of clothes.
Delicious food here. The food quality is top notch and service is great. The staff were so friendly. Highly recommended!
Woooow such an amazing experience! Stepping into this restaurant was like going back in time 60 years to a bygone era of the godfather and goodfellas. Tuxedo clad waiters and a dress code with classy 1960s era of fine dining was such a cool experience. Our waiter Jerry was soooo classy, funny, and friendly! He was able to explain everything in the menu with detail and gave us awesome recommendations. The food was spectacular 60s era Italian dining with baked clams, veal Parmesan, and an absolutely massive seafood pasta platter that they served on still in the pan. Absolutely spectacular gargiulo’s is a must visit when you come to Coney Island, grazie mille!
We had just arrived in town and needed a nice meal. Wow, did we hit the jackpot! Greeted at the door by the owner, atmosphere was gorgeous yet comfortable, food was amazing, Emilio, our server, was not only professional, but friendly, and made our dining experience that much more special. Very reasonably priced for this quality of food and level of service. On the way out we spoke to George, the bartender, I can’t wait to come back and try one of his espresso martinis! Thank you!
The food here is absolutely divine, and the atmosphere is simply electrifying! The live music adds a whole new level of excitement. It's impossible to resist the urge to jump up and dance! We decided to celebrate Valentine's Day here, and let me tell you, it was an exceptional experience. I cannot recommend this place enough.
Amazing restaurant! Food is super delicious and service is great! At first, we thought that we’d pay more than $100 each because restaurant looked very fancy but eventually prices are reasonable like in other NY restaurants. Restaurant is also available on open table which makes reservation process easy. Also valet parking is available. Definitely try their pasta - we liked it a lot.

I went here with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. We had a great time and the food was great. live music and great drinks. I got the chicken parm.
Love their seafood salad and the family atmosphere. This is a Brooklyn staple that has been around.

have been going there for 50 years.food and service are second to none, anthony and his brothers are excellent hosts
Fabulous goes without saying. Besides the amazing food, you feel like you are back in 1942 Brooklyn. Amazing service, amazing vibe. So worth it.
The staff and atmosphere were great. Food could have been better. Sausage was undercooked and the pasta was not hot enough. Salmon and meatballs were just ok. Drinks were good.
Attended the VBCC Ambassador's Gala . Great food Polite and professional service Great atmosphere Vegan option available on request for Ll events. Valet parking
Great venue because of the location and parking lot. Food is "classic" but old fashioned. Decor is old. I love that they serve their own wine. Service is always excellent. Great place for a low key budget wedding. They have enough space for a dance floor.
Food is ok and the service was pretty efficient. Was there for a memorial service and it was pleasant
Upscale dining experience! We were a large group that wanted to eat out after a day at Coney Island. We felt underdressed, but we weren't turned away. I'm so happy they accommodated us. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Portions are not large but adequate. They have valet parking, which is important since it's not easy to park in the area.
Gargiulo's has a very nice atmosphere (4 stars) that makes for a pleasant dining environment. My overall experience was a solid 4 stars, though I found both the food and the service to be more middle-of-the-road at 3 stars each. It's a classic spot with a great feel, even if the meal itself was standard.
Private party. The staff were limited and did not fulfill the drink orders. Had to ask multiple times. Food was ok, under seasoned. Its Xmas time, yet NO decorations in the private room, NOT ONE!
This was my first visit, for a fraternal function. I've had better food, but it was enjoyable. The drinks were strong, but I wasn't driving so I'm not worried. The venue was beautiful, and the staff are friendly and accommodating.
Classic Italian Restaurant in the heart of Coney Island. We went as a large group and quickly found out they are very strict with dress code and who can come in. Several members of our group were not allowed in, which made for some tension at our table. Those who did get in were taken care of with a good meal and service. We started with some fresh mozzarella and tomatoes. To me, it was bland and the cheese rubbery with unripe tastless tomatoes. It needed oil and balsamic vinegar to wake it up. We then had their excellent zucchini fries that were light and sweet and one of the best I have had. Our pasta dish was penne with tomatoe sauce. The penne was cooked perfectly aldante, but I felt the sauce was a bit too sharp. It needed plenty of sprinkled parmasian to smooth it out. I tried the broiled salmon, which was slightly overcooked but good. I thought the egg plant parm I tasted was much better, tender, and very flavourful. The sauce on the parm to me was better than on the pasta dish. We ended with a delicious slice of their cannoli cake. It was light with the perfect balance of cream and mini chocolate chips between the layers. The regular coffee served was strong and a smooth roast but unfortunately served lukewarm. Overall, the food is very good if you choose wisely. But be prepared in this modern day to dress and look, in their acceptable way, or you might not get in.
Location : located on a calm street, few blocks to the sea Staff : friendly Food : 4/5. The spaghetti tomato sauce is classic. We don’t appreciate their pasta. They are too thin Linguine white clam sauce : there are so much liquid on the sauce for me and too salty Calamari fried is well cooked Dessert : the texture of the orange sorbet is so hard. I think it is more than a frozen orange juice than sorbet — Nice decoration — 1 start for the toilet: there were so much dirty paper on the floor. Also, the basket for used hand paper was full so the client just threw it on the floor or even worse, on the lavabo to wash hand. They definitely have to improve their restroom sanitary to keep client

The service was initially slow. I had to ask another waiter to get my waiter after waiting close to 20mn for him to return for my drink order. He was better the rest of the time. The Wait staff was overall very pleasant; that was a plus. The food is average. The homemade tiramisu was good.
The food is okay . Not bad not good . Service is good . Environment is above average . Bathroom is clean and medium sized . This place requires middle class to upper class dressing because it blends with the atmosphere of structure and luxury . No jeans , no comfort casual clothing because this is not a McDonald’s , this is a real restaurant . The fish tank should be bigger , spanning the full wall of the place , instead it’s a small corner fish tank in a wall . Ideal place to eat small , drink alcohol and tip 25% to make up for the lack of food / alcohol order . This is what a restaurant should be , but this is the low bar here. But the few places left in Coney Island that go back to the traditional way . Interesting fact is that this place has been here since 1910 , I believe .
Mother's day brunch . It was our first time going . Our friends from the beach club love to go during the summer. The price fixe for kids was 50.00 for French fries and chicken fingers . Kids enjoyed but for one 8yr old it seems a bit much. The raviolis were terrific and the clams out of this world though. It's worth trying once but I should have planned for another day .
Nice place for dinner and to bring dates, friends or family. I love the surprise at the end of dinner, as well as the friendly atmosphere. We'll done. I don't eat out, but my friends have all enjoyed the food. Reasons I didn't give it five stars are unrelated to service or ambiance: Not sure why it isn't open every day of the week. I wanted to bring someone here and was surprised to find that it was closed a couple of nights each week. This is a family place, so the tiny bar isn't suitable for having a drink solo or perhaps to socialize with another random stranger (something I enjoy).
We sat quickly, but then waited 20-30 minutes to put our order in. Then it felt like we weren’t important to the staff, an afterthought. “Oh, sorry, could we bother you for another glass of water…?” We ordered a variety of antipasti - cozze were the only dish with a bit of flavor. The pizza then took another 20-30 minutes to come after the antipasti: the mushrooms on the sausage and mushroom pizza made the dough too soggy. Even the pepperoni seemed to just lack flavor. Everything could have used at least a bit more salt.
My experience at this restaurant has been neutral I can't say that it's great and rave about it like these other five-star reviews because that was not my experience to me the food was mediocre and nothing special. I would not go back for a second time.
No one who knows good Italian food would eat here anymore. Twenty years ago, yes. Now, no. Food is disgusting, overpriced and of a poor quality. The setting is still lovely. The food sucks.

I don’t know how this place is rated so highly. My partner and I had dinner last night expecting good quality everything. However, upon sitting down. We noticed my glass cup had a clear lipstick imprint . (Not from me) we told the waiter and they te quickly replaced with new one. We thought maybe it was just a slip up and though well maybe the food is gonna be better. However c when bringing the bread basket- bread seam stale and hard. Butter was ice cold and hard as a brick. We told waiter to heat it for us which they kindly did. Rest of the food was bland and mediocre. But service was good and accommodating. Wish food was up to part and better cleanliness. Will never be back ever again. But hope people have a better experience than we did !
Very disappointed, I ordered the Stuffed Shrimp with crab meat , couldn’t find the crab , the 3 Shrimps were burned and dry , only a slice of lemon was on the plate , it was served on the skin and it was too dry to peel and I could hardly taste anything, and 1 small Potato croquette was a bite. The vegetables were ok but with our Party a few plates were placed on the table and I had to only take a little so the rest of the party could have some ( with my $42 plate I should have had my own veggies) thank God plenty there was of bread on the table or I would have gone home hungry- I been here a couple of times before but I won’t be back - I’m not one to complain and the waiter never came back to say “ is everything alright “ 👎
I was taking my sister to eat at this place but was rudely spoken to by the bald headed host with the black bowtie at the front of the restaurant. I didnt catch his name but before being seated, i asked where the bathroom was before ordering my food, yet again i was rudely spoken to. The staff/ host has a very nasty attitude. He conducted his welcoming poorly. He should be ashamed of himself. That is not a nice way to greet paying customers. Also the food was C average. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone. Also in this neighborhood, I feel the host should be more humble and pleasant the next go around. I’d rather spend my hard earned money elsewhere.
Had reservations for a Mother’s Day dinner with my husband, children, MIL and Family. We get there and we are denied entrance. Why you ask? Because my boys had khaki shorts, button down collared shirt and loafers. They were dressed very nicely. They said sorry no shorts. Wt….?! As we are standing there in disbelief, a man walks out with dirty jeans, a dirty zip up jacket and ripped sneakers. I pointed to the vagabond looking dude and said, “oh but that’s allowed? My boys looked good, smelled good, and were dressed impeccably. They ruined my Mother’s Day! We had to drive all the way back home to Westchester Bc all other restaurants were booked already. I can only tell from pics that the food looks Meh. In retrospect, I probably dodged a bullet. Restaurants like a Gargiulos get hype (if that) only bc of the iconic rep & name. Quality of food diminishes and they rely on their reputation. Honestly I can’t believe at this point the food is cooked fresh everyday. Just read some of the reviews.
My husband and I decided to try this place for a first try. We’re both big foodies and enjoy delicious foods and dining out. We ordered out. It was absolutely terrible. It was like Italian food made at a nursing home (if that’s even a thing), lol.
Gargiulos is not the same. Meals are below average and price is very expensive. Started with calamari which came out cold and definetly not fresh with no taste at all. Main xourse was stuffed shrimp for $44 which consited of only 4 small shrimps which were overbreaded and tasted horrible served with absolutely nothing was horrible. Finished with tiramusu dessert which had to taste and preaentation was zero. This meal alone with two glasses of wine was over $180.I dont mind paying high prices for a good meal but this meal was below average and not worth the price. You will get a better meal elsewhere. Will definetly not be coming back. Save your money.
The place has been mentioned as one of the staples of south Brooklyn, and I really wanted to love it. Nothing special, unfortunately. Everything looks dated, you get mediocre food for a high price. Ordered a seafood platter. Clams had a fishy smell and when I told that to the waiter he responded “it’s the sauce”. The pasta looked and tasted like lo mein from a Chinese restaurant. The tiramisu looked like it was dropped on the way to my table, but the taste was okay.
