Happyfun Hideaway Brooklyn Reviews
Good drinks, fun space. Great place to hang out and watch a relationship unravel.
Going to HappyFun can be like stepping into a realm of fascinating people who move through space unencumbered by the norm. The space has been like an ethereal waystation between the events for me. - Great music, I've heard everything from 90's RnB to techno. - Great conversation, the bartenders are lovely and helpful. They seem to know everyone and make you feel welcome - great atmosphere, lounge, bar seats, tables, and a patio give you a good mix of modalities to enjoy. - great drinks and good prices, I have gone a few times thinking I'll have a single drink and then it turns into more during happy hour A great place to find the intersectionality of our community.
I loved it! I was immediately greeted by Andrew the bartender who provided great service. He was obviously educated on the offerings because he was able to provide drink recommendations and share the daily specials off the top of his head. As someone in food service management, that was nice to see. The atmosphere is great and I especially love the trinkets and wall/ceiling decor. It matches the vibe of the music that your fabulous DJ was mixing. The first thing I'd recommend is more promo material that patrons can see up close because the lists on the wall are not easy to read. "Table tents" are a great option to promote specials. Finally, I love the amount of the space in the back patio, but I just felt disconnected from the atmosphere of the bar itself. Overall....it was a nice end to the day! ✅️🌈😊👍
Love this quirky little bar! Have only been twice but definitely plan to frequent this place more. I didn't get the vibe that it's a "gay bar" but more of genuine mix of folks. I didn't meet anyone new so can't attest to the crowd much but the decor is beyond fun and I'm a sucker for colorful off-beat vibes. The tiki style drinks and frozen drinks (big fan of that option!), are terribly delicious at a reasonable price from what I recall. Staff was friendly. Will definitely be back.
Super fun place with DJ's and fun bartenders. A safe queer space for allies and all. Sometimes there's only a single bartender so the wait can get long. Backyard space, ample seating, fun art and design. Sometimes it gets very packed on the weekends and holidays. Also there are delis open late and an amazing taco place right next door! Definitely recommend for a night out on Myrtle Broadway.
The energy of this place is welcoming to all members of the LGBTQ+ community. The drink specials are always topical and fun. The staff is lively and easy to talk to. The prices are decent for it being the city. And the clientele is a bunch of friends waiting to be made.
This bar was right outside of my airbnb in Brooklyn. First of all... This neighborhood is absolutely amazing and trendy!!! This bar just added to that vibe. I found myself there everyday for a few cheap shots with my friends. The music was always great and the bartenders were super cool! I went alone my first night in town and felt very welcomed and right at home! Did I mention the drinks are cheap?? Yall know I like that! DEW approved 👍🏽👍🏽
A good dive bar with a few speciality cocktails. The glassware is cheap. The prices are decent. The drinks are acceptable. Nothing fancy for sure, but it’s a fun atmosphere worth checking out for a very causal night out. I particularly like the outdoor “beer garden” area. It’s fenced in with ample seating. Can’t wait to enjoy it in warmer weather.
The space itself is great but the bartender serving the night I went made me feel extremely unwelcome, being outright hostile at times (short person with green hair). I would beware if you are a woman of color, and steer clear of interactions with this person given their blatant racism. Other than that, the music was awesome and the back-patio very nice!
I have been coming to happyfun for a few years now and my experience last night was one I felt I needed to document. Queer people and queer spaces need to do better to protect their own, especially POC. Last night there was a very intoxicated man at the bar, the bartenders served him although he was clearly way past his limit and also charged him twice for one drink. This already rubbed me the wrong way on behalf of the bartenders who I felt like were taking advantage of a weird situation. But, the man ended up joining my friends and I and immediately we were very concerned for his safety and wellbeing because he was completely incoherent, for about twenty mins we were trying to figure out what he took/whether he was alone/how he was going to get home safe. When it was clear that it was beyond our control, I told a bartender and they promptly kicked him out. This seemed wrong, lazy, and blatantly racist for so many reasons 1) he seemed to have been at the bar for a couple of hours, bartenders were serving him or at least charging him, so someone at the bar had allowed him to get to that point 2) when I told the bartenders they brushed me off and said that they know and that they’re kicking him out and they were sorry for him getting in my business. I frankly did not care that he was in my business, I was concerned for his wellbeing. I would expect the owners of the queer establishment to also care about that, but there was NO intervention or care present in that interaction 3) it was not lost to me that he was black and the three bartenders working last night were white, dismissive, and a little mean. I have always found happyfun to feel like a safe space for queer POC but I feel very disturbed by this attitude towards patrons who clearly needed help. There needs to be a community approach towards supporting patrons…it’s a bar with a dance floor in bushwick…people are going to be dancing, people are doing to be doing drugs. Ensuring safety should be a number 1 priority. Im sad to say that I won’t be coming back.
Pickpockets frequent this bar. My friend got his phone stolen last night. Another bar guest saw him looking for it and said his got stolen as well. My friend spoke to the bouncer and he shrugged saying this happens a lot.
I've been coming to this bar for years. I went tonight and was one of three guests in the bar. The bartender, Icarus, was at the other end of the bar watching videos with his friends, so I eventually walked over after 10 minutes and asked if he could please get me a drink for my friend and I. I walked back to my seat at the bar and he walked over and yelled at me, "You can walk over here and ask for a drink. I don't have to come to you". This was shocking for many reasons, but I realized he was very drunk. I told him nevermind and we were going to leave. He then proceeded to tell me to "save it" yelling this multiple times. I told him to have a great night and we were going to leave and he yelled at me that I was retarded and to "save it". I asked him why he didn't want to make money and he told me again to "save it". I left and went to a nearby bar. While in the next bar a person came up to me and told me they witnessed what happened to me at Happy Fun and apologized that that happened to us. So insane. If Icarus is working..... walk out immediately. Happy Fun.... please.... figure this out.
So … here’s tea …. I love this please it’s normally super fun and amazing !! But me and my best friends came on a Monday and … yikes … we got drinking we no alcohol in them And we watched the bartender deny someone from drinking water? Idk weird
Your bartender last night (large male) was awfully rude and unwelcoming. Quite distasteful, that the main point of service at your establishment would have such a nasty attitude. Simple questions that were asked, did not warrant condescending and belittling responses. Hire someone else. Yuck
I went to this place for the first time, one of the bartenders was rude I used my credit card to pay, the bartender already registered my card in the system, but then my friend told me to better use cash, when I told the bartender I wanted to pay cash, he became upset, gave me an attituded. I only had one drink at this place while my friend had 2 or 3 drinks. Another customer offer me a free drink which was very nice of her to do this to me. the rest of the night was good. Today Sunday 02/10/2025 I am finding out that the same credit card that was used at this bar has a fraudulent transaction done in the Dominican Republic in a rental car called TARGET CAR RENTAL BOCA CHICA for $ 646.55 I am very upset with this fraudulent transaction since I never left this country especially on that night that I came to NY for a weekend driving from home. This is crazy and the only person upset with me was this bartender.
I have never met ruder bartenders in my life. My girlfriend and I went and there were few people at the bar but my girlfriend was completely ignored while she patiently and respectfully waited. I came over and flagged over the bartender who clearly was not going to serve my girlfriend for whatever reason (?) - the bartender came over and she did not speak to us a single time: did not ask what we wanted, did not utter a SINGLE word. We said please, thank you, etc, and felt extremely confused, uncomfortable, and honestly sad. Because of how rude the bartender was, we did not leave a tip, specifically because she was nice to every other person we went with so it felt very targeted. Afterwards, we tried to order another drink and she ignored us - she actually walked over to us, said “hi,” in a sarcastic tone and walked away - her coworker told us it was because we didn’t tip her. I have always, ALWAYS tipped as someone who worked in the service industry, but I’ve never experienced someone so indredibly cold and rude to the point where it ruined the rest of our night.
On the night of November 16, I was at your bar around 1 AM. The place wasn’t even that busy, yet you didn’t notice me. I made eye contact with you, but you still didn’t take my order, so I left. It felt very disrespectful. Had you been my guest I would have been polite to you.
Beware of this place, it’s advertised as a queer space but the staff (bartender + dj) are completely horrible aside from the straight security guard who happened to be very kind. My friend and I were kicked out for questioning the cups/prices because he was trying the sell me a Dixie cup size drink for $20 which is absurd, the bartender (short fat troll with green hair) has ZERO customer service skills and clearly the owner of Happy Fun Hideaway is okay with this because I see I’m not the only one to have issues with the same troll of a bartender. Maybe he was drunk cause he sure was sipping behind the bar
Had a nasty experience with the bartender (short chubby guy with the green hair). Not sure what his issue was but he was extremely rude and condescending whenever anyone came up to order a drink, mind you the bar was basically empty the whole night! He had his friends chilling at the bar and would literally roll his eyes anytime he had to step away from them making things super awkward. Definitely will not be returning or recommending this place as there is nothing happy or fun about this bar. They really need to get rid of that disgusting energy before they go out of business because of him. Like I truly wish I never spent any of my money there and he doesn’t deserve the tips we gave him!!!
