Delicious Puerto Rican food and great service.

Love the place just too much homeless people begging for money while you order.

I've been going here since 2017 whenever I am in the area and want Puerto Rican food. It is absolutely delicious and I LOVE their relleno de papa dish. The pernil is good, so is their chicken. GO HERE! :)

S

Wow! If this is traditional Dominican food, I need to go-to Dominican Republic!!!!! I love this place. Guilty pleasure food that gets you ready for a heart attack. Just don't eat there too often. Once per week is the most you should do. But when you do PIG OUT!!!!

K
Keu Reyes

Good and authentic. Good place for Puerto Rican food cravings when in New York. Try the soups too. Mondongo was off the hook. They also have Yuca. They pretty much have anything you may be looking for. Check them out.

Every local knows this spot. It's the ultimate late night munch spot. The best cuchi frito around. I have family that stops here EVERY time they visit NY. It's a must. Rellenos de papa, y Los alcapurrias. Not to mention their sancocho.

J

This is one of those spots where all the locals have been coming in for years. It's a small little place on Graham Ave, usually packed up! The seating is bar style, only offering about 8 bar stools. The minute the doors open you're hit with an Amazing atomic fragrance that instantly smells like great food. All food is made daily, round the clock. The Rice and Beans are amazing. Great taste and you get a good portion. The Roasted chicken is juicy and perfectly seasoned. They sell Alcupurrias made of Yuca that are nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Morcilla (blood sausage) always fresh with a great snap to it. This I authentic Spanish food!! The Pernil is always succulent and perfect salted and soups are very comforting and tasty. Must try if in the area, and it's cheap too!

The place is small but the food is good I especially love their mondongo soup. If you just have a few dollars this is the place to go. You can sit at the counter and be served that's the only seating

This place has been open ever since I was a little kid. It was good back then and it is good now. I no longer live in NY, but when I do visit. There is almost always a stop at this shop for some good cooking.

I've been goin here for years and this place never fails to give you great food!! It's a hole in the wall kind of spot but you can go at any time 24/7 and get a good meal. This is the best cuchifritos location for me. The food is great, inexpensive, and will leave you stuffed for sure!! Great, great place all around!!

A

This place has been around for years and kills the meaning of cuchifrito. So delicious, so bad for your arteries but too tempting at the same time, rellena de papa, alcapurias, pastellios. Do not have the will power to just order soup. The smell gets you when you walk in the door. Reminds me of Grandma. Every time I pass by Graham Ave I am thrilled that it still exists but look away quickly before I am tempted. Can only treat myself once in a while, especially since I've already packed on some pounds with this long winter, non-spring we just experienced. Ooooh so good!!!! Great staff too! Did not know it was open 24/7. I am so in trouble now!

Very delicious authentic Puerto Rican food. The food is always fresh because they are constantly cooking more food, since people are always buying food there. The staff are very patient, fast and professional.

My to go place when I want Puerto Rican comfort food delicious and the price is right. My only complaint is that the alcapurrias are made of Yucca/Cassava not with bananas as I was brought up on.

I will be back!! There is no place like this one!! I come all the way from New Jersey for this place here!!!! I used to live in Brooklyn 8 years ago, and I don’t care if I have to pay toll or gas….. I am coming to La Isla Cuchifritos! They give me taste of my roots.

I got the baked chicken with white rice and beans and WOW. Everything was so good but primarily the white rice and those beans. I definitely will be back.

Very good food! Quickly served, great takeout for feeding a bunch of people at home without having to cook it all yourself. Great saucy and tasty habichuelas! Depending on what you get, takeout runs about $10 a person.

Excellent food and service. It's not a five star restaurant but they also don't claim to be either. If you want tasty Puerto Rican fare for a good price then this is the place. Literally right off of the subway!

Other than the restaurant being very small and the homeless right out side the door when you pull up, the food is fantastic and the staff are very kind. Absolutely love coming here for authentic Spanish food!!!! The parcha drink is to die for!!!! I always come back when I can.

J

It's such a delicious place. Theirs no tables to sit at. It's set up like a bar table with the stools uncomfortable to sit relax and eat. Best for take out. Sometimes it can get crowded making it hard to order and get your food but overall it's quite delicious.

I love it here. I been coming hear a long time. I came here recently late Saturday night ordered Rice beans Rotisserie chicken With an alcapurria and empanadas. All of it was perfect so perfect I ordered a chicken soup to go because if i didn’t I would’ve regretted it. The price is fair. Easily one of my favorites!

If your going for just quick eats. Food is great! Without a doubt. You'll be greeted by the doorman known to me as Doorman Bonbon. (Say it with a Spanish accent 🤣) Again, food is great, not too much parking, homeless galore. Enjoy.

I have been going to this place for some years now. They have good food and juices. My favorite juice is the lemonade. My brother prefers coconut juice. They are usually open late so even on those nights out and you want something for the Hangover lol this is your place.

Had actually been happy to see it was open after a event I attended ending after 12 am & Cuchifritos was open. Lol even greater than it open as late as it had but it isn't MEye first rodeo at Chuchifritos find dining cause Eye'd eaten from their plenty of times as a kid with my older sister, now being 37, lol. Let me tell u about the recipes that doesnt change & the food they cook with love. Cuchifritos is still the spot tf on with delicious meals even if it's hard to translate what it is you want from of the menu cause the workers don't speak English. Lol so if you don't speak Spanish & don't carry a translator then you would have to rely on the customers, Lol most of them regulars 2 help you to Succesfully place a order. But once u do, when u get the food it's absolutely amazing definitely an experience to what heritage & cultural filled flavors taste like brought 2 Brooklyn NYC!

The food was delicious, the price was great and the staff was so welcoming. I enjoyed every moment. One of my favorite cuchifritos in Brooklyn. Make sure you try their Passion Fruit Juice.

That place has been there forever. I've eaten there many many times and they never disappoint me

D
Dan The Grip

Cuchifritos is the quickest way to gain weight. Delicious heavy fried food and blood sausage (Morcilla)? Yes please! The pineapple drink probably contains enough sugar for a week, but dang if it doesn’t compliment the Alcapurrias (stuffed Yuca fritters)!

S
Stewart Brebnor

Excellent soup like mama used to make. Hefty portions. Give the Mofongo a try. Mine was a little on the dry side but delicious!

H
Hector Rodriguez

The problem that I do have with this establishment is that there is no order because at times it gets so congested and some people don't care if others where there before them to order food so they'll just cut ahead of "the line" so to speak and then it potentially becomes a battle over who's next or I was here before you kinda thing and that itself can be a turn-off... The food is good but sometimes makes you think if you want to endure the nonsense.

L
Linda E. Oramas

The customer service is great awesome staff they treat you kind professionally very nice , they have different chef some nights so you can tell when it's a different cook, love their alcapuria and their bake chicken fresh out of the kitchen is best but like I said it's not always the same chef but still the same latin flavor.

T
Tisha Cabrera

Been coming here since I was a kid. It was originally named cuchifritos but I guess they decided to change it when they renovated to keep up with the gentrification happening in Bushwick. I love the tamarindo juice and the alcapurria with lime. They're chicken and pastels are good.

Was born in 🇨🇴 Colombia 🇨🇴, but raised with American background y have friends from different backgrounds, have been 2 this restaurant the La Isla Cuchifrritos with friends y just love this place The atmosphere, the area, the food y service is absolutely amazing Highly recommend it out 4 anyone, u just wanna keep going back Would give this restaurant 4 y more stars as ratings Danny S

I'm a creature of habit when it comes to food. This place used to rival the original cuchifrito on Clinton St NYC. Clinton is gone and they slipped a bit. For some reason coming back to open they don't have bacalaitos. No worries their morcilla, alcapuria and rellenos de papa are worth coming back for once in awhile. You're better of though in the one located on Knickerbocker and they have bacalaitos. Their rice and beans are passable but I'm Puerto Rican and they are skimping off the sofrito for many of the other dishes. I don't like bland so bring on the sofrito and herbs.

J
Jose

Good spot for Spanish food, but when I went there they didn’t really have a lot of food. I guess I’ll went in a bad time or something. But overall it’s a decent spot to eat, I wish they had tables to eat inside.

J
John Tao

Super cheap for a plate full of food! Excellent place to fill up after a long day of work or to prep for a long day of work. I ordered the steak and peppers with rice and beans all for only $9.75. It was enough for myself and my girlfriend, and we had leftovers(of rice...) The crowd and neighborhood is a bit sketchy but that's the enjoyment of it, you never know who is going to walk in the restaurant.

G
Gabriela Benitez

The food here is amazing. The plate they serve you is big too. The customer service is good. The only down side the seats to eat inside are limited. It's a bar stool like style. In the summer it can get very hot inside since their ac doesnt operate fully. Recomend you eat somewhere else because the seats are too close together and you can't move them. Their juices are great though.

K
Kya

Only problem I’ve had here is i found a piece of bone in the pernil. I have been eating food from here since i was a child never had a problem. It’s very upsetting this happened im hoping there isn’t any damage to my tooth.

J
James Robnett

These are the best empanadas i've ever had. The crust was buttery and flaky and the picadillo was perfect. The rellenos were great too. Pernil, rice and beans were good but nothing special.

C
CHRISTINA JETTER

The place could use some upgrades, however the food makes you over look that. The alcapurrias, and potato balls are good especially when you eat them freshly made. The staff is friendly. And although it's a small space there always seems to be just enough room. Old school flavors at the tip of a busy shopping area. Flavorful but a little paint wouldn't hurt.

M
Mary Amato

My favorite cuchifrito spot!! This is the only place I buy relleno de papas (potato balls). The meat filling is seasoned well and has good flavor. Also their carne guisado (beef stew) is excellent 👌 the beef is so tender you can break it apart with a spoon. The rice and beans are good, but I wish they put potatoes or squash in the beans like I do. Regardless, I always keep coming back. 💯

L
Lo Fi

The food was ok to much bay leaves in the beans (for my taste). The ajonjolí and passion juice very good but the FRITURAS all of them very, very delicious! Nice staff! Street parking ONLY!

C
Chris Bono

Their food is great, but the customer service needs to improve. Customers understand that they have to stand in line before placing an order. In this case it would serve better to establish that theres a line instead. On my visit I witnessed about 1/2 dozen customers walking in and confused on where to place their order. There were no signs or indication of forming a line or where to place an order. There is a cash register at the right corner of the restaurant but no one present the majority of the time. The restaurant upholds good cleanliness aside from their lack of customer service in certain aspects. There's much room for improvement although they do have my support in knowing they would act on making the right changes. I do believe they are on the right track and hope to see this corrected by my next visit. I'm quite fond of their food and drinks and wish success for the business.

La Isla Cuchifritos Layout/atmosphere *Eight seat counter; wall counter (no seats); food can be seen through front window display Food/drink *Alcapurria - really good; the dough/shell was the right texture *Pernil (with Moro rice & red beans) - good; some crunch to the skin

If you're by Woodhull Hospital it is one of the best places to get some good Hispanic food at very affordable prices. The place itself is not much, very small. They do have some sitting by the counter. Service can be slow. Try their Pig Feet Soup it is delicious 😋 , just make sure they don't put big pieces of potato or yucca that'll take most of the plate. The Yucca or potato balls are delicious. Penil, Fried chicken is okay. Not a fan of their Empanadas. NP : THIS PLACE IS CASH ONLY!!!

really clean restaurant with no frills just lets the food talk. the empanada was low key gross honestly it was mad oily and the meat was tasty but also absorbed the oil. but the fried yuca ball made up for it. perfectly crispy on the outside with nice seasoned beef in the middle. will def be returning in the morning for fresher stuff and im sure it'll all taste better

The customer service was good...the smoothie was tasty, however, when you think smoothie, you think nice in thick, so it can be fulfilling...but the one that they said was one of the best sellers (SLIM SALLY) was very thin...and it could have been the person that made it, cause she didn't know a lick of English, 🤦🏾‍♀️...so because of this mishap, I'm gonna have to rate it a 3, 🤷🏾‍♀️ !!!

Small spot on Graham Ave in Bklyn. I went in around 12pm still didn't have alcapurias ready. Most cuchifritos have all their foods ready before opening their doors. I was just passing thru, had to catch train back to Manhattan.

D
Dezza Bibb

Food was great. I'm more Delancey street old school, though. Reina del Pappas were too small. Tasty, but small. The staff are very helpful. No pulpo. No tripe, when I went. Friends went another day and picked me up some. Did have pigs feet and yuca before my order to go. Got blood sausage and pork belly to go with Pappas. Honestly, it's way far. There is like only one train that half of NYC hardly ever use. I got a ride, but from where I'm at, it's about 2-3 trains. I'm in BK. Would rather stay on 5 train to hit up Spanish Harlem, just due to ride alone. No Salado, either.

M
Miguel Quinones

Been there twice. Maybe because it was late at night the food was not good. If I'm ever there early it may be different . We will see. The service was great tho.

A

Came here because my gf loves this place when she live here in Brooklyn. Would say their Alcapurrias are good, but potato ball no good had like a pancake batter texture not crunchy more mushy then anything, their stuffed plantain was a bit better but wouldn’t recommend either of them just to be honest. Also it’s cash only and bunch of ppl gather in front as a hangout not recommended.

E
Ernst Georges

Average food at a cheap price, only accept cash but you can order using food delivery apps services and pay this way buy cards. Staff do not speak English properly please speak slowly and clearly if you don't want your food to mess up. If you speak Spanish that's the best place for you.. Up side of this place open 24/7

We need more cuchifrito restaurants like these in Queens. Alcapurrias , relleno de papa & empanadas good PR comfort foods.

N
Nicholle Galarza

Everything was overly greasy & mushy. The alcapurria was sweet?!? The coco juice tastes like Suave coconut conditioner. Sadly, this place is definetly not what it used to be.

J
J Hernandez

I visited this location Friday I wanted an empanada and a relleno de papa(mashed potato and ground beef fried in a round ball.) It's cash only. The quality of the food isn't the same as I remember. The empanadas are over fried less meat inside. The platters don't include rice and beans or any other side you may want everything is separate rice and beans go together smh. Maybe I just went later on in the day I'll try going earlier in the day to see if that makes a difference in the food

M
Manuel Albandoz

I tried it based on an Instagram review, but the food was disappointing. Regardless of the neighborhood, the quality just didn’t make up for it.

K
Kevin Mata

Polite staff Quick service Cheap prices Food was not enjoyable I wasn’t expecting AMAZING food but wow. Food was very greasy and old. I could tell the rice and chicken was old. Abichuela was bland. I had to stop eating and throw it out because I couldn’t stand it anymore. Let alone look at it. How you could mess up rice chicken and beans is beyond me. I’ll never go back honestly.

A
Annamica Lochan

The staff was friendly and helpful but almost everything I ordered was not good. The pernil was dry and lacked flavor, the chicken leg with thigh was less dry but still no flavor, the plate was mostly brown rice and very little beans. The cheese empanada was hard and the cheese was too little. The potato ball was the only thing that tasted decent.

G
Greatest Greatness

This place is okay but buying an empanada and they used the baked rotisserie chicken horrible upsetting & wasted money in these hard times 🤮

Caroline Vega
Caroline Vega

We drove here from Long Island to eat alcapurrias and morcillas. The alcapurrias was ok. The relleno de papa was not good hardly no meat. The morcillas were cold. The place is not the cleanest. I will not return. Most of the cuchifrito are now owned by Dominicans. And no offense to the Dominican cooks, however no one makes these Puerto rican staples better than a boricua.

J
Janette Vazquez

Absolutely one of the worst cuchifrito I've ever been to. Chicharon was chewy and cold. The rest of the items was just cold and mushy meat. Unsatisfied.. Epic Fail for a late night munch.

V

This place is a rip off . They charged my son $11 for a plate of just rice and beans together . The last time I went I bought a pint of beans and there was barely beans mostly gravy . The nerve of them .

N

You did me dirty. This enough rice for a mouse.

O
Olatungi Jones

They served me rotten food and didn’t want to give me a refund

F
Felix Gato

The blood pudding was oily, the Alcapurias had no flavor and they looked like they use old oil to fry them in. Empanadas we’re disgusting because the dough was more than the chicken. Wasn’t cooked right in the center and the oil is old that they use to fry them in. If I had paid with debit I would have got a charge back because how disappointed this place is. Back in the 90’s the food was 5 stars. Won’t be coming to this spot anymore and it’s a Dominican run place because that wasn’t Puerto Rican at all.

E
Evita C

Didn't feel welcomed. Rice and beans had no flavor, alcapura was hard, all men in there. Had to keep asking questions over felt like they were annoyed. No fountain can or bottle drinks. Won't go back.

V

The 2 ladies behind the counter are on tops of thing but when the cook came out his finger nails were long and dirty. It was disgusting. On top of that for a small order or rice beans and chicken it was 21 bucks.

I was waiting for 15 minutes to get attended and no one asked me for my order, I tried to call them and they ignored me. Then 2 people came in after me and immediately got attended. They suck

I'm from out of state and I had a hunkering for cuchifrito. I usually go to cuchifritos In Manhattan on 116th.. But I was working around Brooklyn all day and couldn't get away. So I decided to here. The young guy who waited on me was rude. Very slow and wasn't very social! No one was in the store except for 1 man almost finished eating at the counter. I should have known this place wasn't going to be any good! (lack of patrons).. Anyway I still went against my own judgment and ordered anyway. I got 2 cuchifritos to take home with alcapurias and chicharon and 2 pastelillos. Well I got in my work vehicle and figured I'd try the frituras and wat a disappointment! Alcapurias were hard and the pastelillos tasted like it had cornbeef in it! Disgusting. I drive out to the 1st rest stop out of New York and the food was still hot so I decided to eat. I asked the server to put the liquid separate. So I pour a bit in and start eating. The guineos were mushy and the rest of the stuff was over cooked and super soft except the moricilla, the rice inside was raw! Next time I'll just go to the best spot over in Manhattan when I'm in town! What a waste of money! Never again! Threw it out!

A

I am very happy this cuchifrito still open until this day back in the 90s the food was outstanding the chef was the best, don't get me wrong staff ok, fast service, food taste so so, need improvement (cleaning chicken station better, food taste old and over cooked, floor and counter full of tissue

Alcapurrias were bland and barely had any meat and relleno de papa was just as terrible, next time I have a hankering for these I’m going to Spanish Harlem

They will try to charge you a different price every time you go there. They just make up prices. Always ask for the price up front if not they will overcharge you purposely . And make sure to check your change because they will give your INCORRECT change back shorting you.

This place has roaches. Not Waterbugs, but ROACHES! A roach quickly ran on top of the counter from the floor and then scurried in down between where the register is and disappeared. When I told the gentlemen about what I saw, he chuckled nervously and took the next person in line. DO NOT EAT HERE! They also had a PENDING GRADE on their door for weeks! That alone should tell you something smh. Such a pity because I really wanted to try them due to me working nearby smh.

I’ve heard wonders of the Cuchifritos from 116th st so I wanted to try it for the longest time. I was feeling home sick, so why not? If you value your life, don’t even bother. My partner and I got the worst food poisoning of our lives. MIND YOU, I was born and raised in PR, so I’ve eaten Puerto Rican food all my life including Guavate in Cayey. I’ve eaten PR food before in Harlem and East Village. So, this is not about my stomach not being able to handle it, it’s about how they handle their food. This is the worst experience I’ve had with any restaurant in the whole tri-state area. I regret it with all my heart. I should’ve listen to the biggest red flag, that being that their Sanitation rating was still PENDING at the time of my visit. First of all, they’re not welcoming at all, it feels like you’re being judged the second you walk in. When I was seated, there is a SINK right under their counter where you eat, so the water just splashes onto your surroundings. The look of the kitchen was disgusting. There was barely any lighting and all the pots and pans looked nasty. The kitchen was dirty from top to bottom. It seemed as if they don’t truly even change the oil accordingly or barely scrub the kitchen top. Yeah, know some places have their charm despite their appearance, but unfortunately this place is NOT IT. Out of all the food they offer, the only thing that was worth it was their passion fruit juice. The rice tasted old, and the pernil tasted like it was left out for the longest time. The alcapurria was just a ball of grease and it didn’t looked 100% cooked. The mofongo with pernil we took home had a horrible stench and it stunk up out fridge and house. Never in my entire life will I be back to such place like this. I’m so sick I can’t barely hold even water down. I’ve thrown up all the food and more. It’s been more than 12 hours, I’m on my way to the hospital right now.
