Lakou Brooklyn Reviews
Lakou Cafe is such a gem. The food is packed with bold Haitian flavor and real spice—whether you’re vegan or a meat eater, there’s something here that absolutely hits. Their vegan options are thoughtful and satisfying, not an afterthought, and the meat dishes are just as rich and full of flavor. The full bar is a huge plus, with drinks that are so good I always grab them to go. On top of that, the atmosphere makes it a perfect social spot—warm, lively, and inviting. A great place to eat, drink, and hang out.
I have been to Lakou twice now, and each time, full of great music, food, people, and ambiance! I feel I am both in someone's backyard/Key West. It's a perfect outdoor venue. This is such a beautiful representation of Little Haiti, of Miami, and something we can all benefit from. I HIGHLY recommend and MOST definitely will be back again! Bonus: The service is top tier and all smiles :)
The food here is so phenomenally flavorful, I was super impressed! I had the vegan meatballs and the whole dish plus sides were all differently flavored and spicy the way I like. Lakou smoothie was delicious too. Friendly service as well. Highly recommend and I will definitely be back!
I went here on a Saturday night with a group of 11 people. Everyone LOVED the food - especially the mushroom sandwich. It seems like the sort of place that does a lot of takeout. We had to ask for things like water and silverware. The staff were all really friendly. I will definitely be going back to try more menu items - very impressive selection of vegan food.
I frequent this cafe pretty often and love the espresso. Came in the other day and the blonde hair barista helped me decide on the cookie butter latte. It was a fun drink for the holidays. I love the atmosphere and friendly staff. It always feels like home
Sitting in Lakou, eating the Kreyol Shrimp and Sos Pwa, I literally went on zillow to see if I could afford moving to BK from Michigan so that I could have more of this food. The staff was helpful and friendly, the food tasted like home, and the atmosphere was perfect. It was also very clear that they were a part of the community, caring about their neighbors (take a look at the posters in their windows). Cannot recommend Lakou Cafe enough. INCREDIBLE all around. 6/5 ⭐️
Okay so I initially came because of their Infamous Haitian cashew brittle which is literally mouth-wateringly delicious. I also wind up getting the roast chicken sandwich which was absolutely and utterly the most tastiest thing I've had in a long time. The chicken was Tastefully seasoned not too salty not to dry it comes with the side kale salad and some plantain chips. a must try! The staff was also super warm and helpful and the guys in the back preparing the food were also amazing. I will definitely come back for more Haitian cashew brittle and another sandwich!
I stopped into this restaurant for dinner! When I arrived I parked right in front of the restaurant. I walked into a cute cafe. I was greeted and sat and we ordered: Barancourt Flight Fatiman's Reve Haitian Fried Chicken Kreyol Shrimp Chocolate Chip Cake The food and drinks were delicious! The chicken was my favorite! Everything was so flavorful! All in all I had a great experience!
Visiting New York for the first time in years. I had the mushroom sandwich and a cappuccino, and both were incredible. The sandwich was massive, crispy, and packed with flavor. Easily one of the best plant-based sandwiches I’ve had. It came with plantain chips, a kale salad, and spicy pickled veggies that added a perfect kick. The space is small but definitely has a community feel. While I was eating at the window bar, a woman sat down next to me and said, “I know you’re enjoying that sandwich” because she had it the week before. That kind of energy says a lot. I’ll absolutely come back.
Mmmm I ordered chickpea puff pastries and they were perfect. So soft and flaky and fresh 😍😍 I agree with past comments that they could use a bit more filling because I ate 2 and was still truly starving afterwards. I ordered them to hold me over until lunch and it felt as if I ate nothing at all
i am a former barista and just moved to crown heights from the UWS so I have been searching for cafés to fulfill my cortado cravings. i tried going to a different cafe in utica and they were out of food. i passed by this place and was intrigued by the beautiful signage. decided to head in. First of all, the espresso is amazing. creamy, chocolatey and buttery. which i imagine is because of the talent of the barista and the beans they use. the beans seem to be a specialty roast based in Haiti. Incredible! Highly recommend. The barista with the septum ring and necklaces is very talented and i had a perfect cortado. I got the fried mushroom sandwich. Wow. This might have been the best vegetarian sandwich i’ve ever had. the mushroom was perfectly fried, it was crunchy and spiced beautifully. the salad which usually is hit or miss was delicious. even the coleslaw - which was spicy and briny. cannot wait to come back and try out more of their menu. Lakou not only seems to be an amazing cafe but committed to uplifting the Haitian diaspora in the neighborhood. amazing and made my saturday afternoon great :)
Walked in spontaneously tonight while taking shelter from the snow. The mushroom sandwich was incredible and we loved the mixed vegetarian plate & banana bread for dessert. We’re not vegan but always love to substitute a poor chicken with a delicious mushroom. Great service from the barista! Support this local business!
I was super disappointed with this place. I ordered the half roasted épis chicken with plantain on the side. The chicken was super DRY! The plantain were not fresh. I tried to eat the food. Nothing was going down my throat. I told the girl in the front that the chicken was dry. I asked her if this was fry chicken or roasted chicken. She said that it was roasted then FRIED! I try to get something else the lady gave me some salted shredded chicken almost soupy consistency. I asked her for some bread to eat with it. She said no.. I had a spiked margarita it was watered down.
My first visit there and my last. I'm haitian, born and raised so I understand and know the foods very well. I don't expect everybody to love how ppl cook but this was terrible. The patties was very very flat. I asked the girl that took my order "why was it so flat"? And she replied "when they are stacked on top of each other, it gets like this".. not an excuse. I then ordered the legim, my sister ordered the chicken. The sos pwa tasted very burnt. The rice extra dry and so was the chicken, and the fried plantain. To top it off. The customer service was terrible. Absolutely disgusting. I ordered take out and noticed there wasn't any forks n napkin. I asked her "don't you put utensils in the bag? It's for take out". She did not reply. She kept nodding her head no. Very disgusting behavior. Train the ppl you hire.its really bad customer service
