Maya Taqueria Brooklyn Reviews
I love chai latte and carrot cake here. They were so good. Staffs were nice and a lot of cupcake for optional. I will comeback again to try another cupcake for sure.
I’m 🍃right now and the Banana pudding from here it’s absolutely delicious and amazing. The most homemade flavor I’ve ever had. So fluffy, abundant and filling. I will give it 100/10 ⭐️ best dessert ever
Attention cake lovers!! One of the best bakeries in the City! Everything is good and delicious! You will wanna buy everything! Location: It is located in Vanderbilt Avenue. The interior is super nice, has this girly bakery vibe! Nice display of all the cakes, make you want to buy everything. Service: buy and go! The employees are nice and takes time for you to order. Just order, pay and go home. Food: I love everything here to be honest! From cakes, pies and cupcakes! BANANA NUTELLA CAKE: this is my favorite, omg banana and nutella in one!! What can you ask for? It is super moist and you will eat the whole thing! BLACK and WHITE CAKE: this is just exactly like the cookie, so good and moist! STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE: taste amazing strawberry, moist and not that sweet. SOUTHERN RED VELVET: one of my fave! The moist red velvet and not that sweet cream cheese frosting is just perfect! CONFETTI CAKE: if you eat this it feels like your birthday! Lol so good! DOUBLE CHOCOLATE: typical chocolate cake but very good. TIRAMISU: so good, there is a kick of coffee! BLUE VELVET CAKE: delicious blue velvet with fresh blueberry inside! Price rating: 6/10, the price matches all the deliciousness! Been here multiple times and definitely coming back for more! Get my recommendation and you definitely will come back! But get the banana Nutella! Lol
I was dying to try the Brooklyn Blackout and Strawberry Shortcake, I was finally able to make it in and I was not disappointed. They definitely live up to hype. They are a bit pricey but so worth it!! The lady behind the counter also recommended I try the dreaming princess and Mott street slice, I’ll definitely be back for those.
Loved this bakeshop! The cheesecake and the Brooklyn blackout cake were incredible. Very friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. I recommend grabbing some baked goods and walking over to prospect park to enjoy!
The cheesecake is divine and same for banana pudding. Dear god this is absolutely heavenly. Def get both
Every time I find myself in Prospect Heights, I stop in to pick up slices of their amazing layer cakes. My favorite is the classic Carrot Cake, but the German Chocolate and Coconut Cloud are very good as well.
I love this bakery. I’ve been coming here for years, and every year I choose a different flavor to add to my repertoire, & it never disappoints. The staff is always so kind and patient with me. I’ve introduced this bakery to all of my family and friends, and it’s become a favorite for many of us.
Omg I love this so much my server Nya she was absolutely amazing. Help me out to get some birthday cakes for my grandma for her birthday today. I really do appreciate her so much. She was so sweet and understanding. Great staff. I love that. She made me feel so welcome. I just wanna hug her.
The “Dreaming Princess” is legitimately the favorite desert / slice of cake I’ve ever eaten. I get sad when I sometimes go and it’s not there (even though everything else is delicious). Please never discontinue Dreaming Princess Cake! Sincerely, Dreaming Princess Lover
Bought a freshly baked apple pie for Thanksgiving dinner and now my family wants the same (but make it 2!) for Christmas! Loved finding this gem of a bakery! They were very friendly and helpful as well.
I was sad when a friend moved away to Brooklyn, but happy that she moved near this cute, delicious cake shop. The cake is always moist, the frosting thick and creamy, the slices delightfully enormous. I don't love the flavor of the Brooklyn Blackout cake, but that's more about my taste in chocolate than their execution. Everything else I've had there has been yum yum yum. Service is friendly and they're open late. What else could you want? Maybe additional locations near me :-)
I don’t get why Maya doesn’t have closer to 5 stars. Every time I come, I love the food and the service is always friendly. If they have the corn chowder, it’s so tasty! And always love their tacos
Delicious food, great cocktails, and a great wait staff. Had an amazing time grabbing dinner here after an event at Unnameable nearby. Thank you to the great workers — they deserve a huge raise :)
Great spot for a solid burrito but they usually don’t start to make a takeout order until you show up (in my experience). Highly recommend the California burrito!
Exceptional all around. Everything is made to order, I sat right by the line where orders are prepared and these guys are putting love into every dish. Fun to watch. Excellent food
Maya Taqueria is hands-down my favorite taco spot in Brooklyn! The flavors are fresh, vibrant, and full of authenticity you can tell everything is made with care. The tortillas are soft and warm, the fillings are perfectly seasoned, and the salsas add just the right kick without overpowering the dish. I especially love that the portions are generous and the ingredients taste super fresh. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is relaxed but lively at perfect for a quick bite or a casual night out with friends. Whether you’re a taco fanatic or just craving something delicious, Maya Taqueria never disappoints!
I have nothing but good things to say about this place! The breakfast burrito is massive and slept on! I added the al pastor mushrooms and peppers & onions on recommendation from my buddy and I'm so glad I did. They perfectly complemented the beans, fries, eggs, and guac. And they serve the burritos with sturdy tortilla chips! This is definitely a place to come to if you're in the area and hungry. The decor was cool, plenty of seating, clean bathroom, and the staff was nice. Super solid spot.
I have no words to describe how delicious this spot was. The employees, the food, and the atmosphere was excellent. My husband got the birria burrito, and I got the California burrito, and they were MASSIVE. The chips and salsa bar are perfect. I can't wait to come back, this is sure to be a regular every time I'm in the Brooklyn area. If you're craving delicious Mexican food, this is the spot to go, you won't regret it.
3.5/5 not really 4 The Brooklyn blackout cake is a bit overhyped, it was kind of dry. However the strawberry cake was pretty good. Their other options are better. Slices were huge and its a cute place with plenty of seating. Plus friendly service.
I came here 2 times after reading the reviews. I tried different cakes. I love a couple of them, such as red velvet cupcakes, original cheesecake, and key lime pie. Others are super sweet. The icing is extremely over sweet, and they will definitely give you diabetes. Like young people. The price is not cheap here but the cake tastes fresh so i don't mind about the price too much. Staff are friendly doing their job. I will come back after the overall experience.
What drew me to this place was they marketing themselves as California style Mexican food, I pictured the amazing Mexican food I used to get at Taqueria Pancho Villa in the Mission in SF. I tried their Special Burrito and I was not impressed at all, a lot of rice and occasionally you might bump into a small piece of chicken, I thought they are trying to save money in the wrong places. Also the Salsa bar, that’s all the charm of the Cali Mexican style, it was not impressive, water down sauces, none of them were actually spicy! The backyard is nice but on Vanderbilt everyone likes to sit on the sidewalk, why not have outdoor seating like everyone else! The service was good.
Salsas we’re very good but otherwise it’s a Classic disappointing nyc style burrito. I don’t know why they think anyone wants to eat a big ball of dry rice instead of a more balanced burrito but here we are. The ingredients were tasty but mushy and could have been assembled better. I’m no authority but I have eaten burritos in California and this doesn’t remind me of them. Definitely had worse but it makes me wonder who devised this recipe. Just put less of the mushy rice in and it will be better idgi.
Ranges from okay to great, and the staff is always sweet, but opening this after paying $10 & looking forward to trying this cake was upsetting. 95% of the frosting is on the paper. The cashier/server was pleasant, but I don’t understand why she thought this was acceptable.
The bakery is very unique and cool with its unique flavors however I got multiple items from there and many of the cupcakes and cake slices were fairly dry in terms of the cake itself but the frosting was decent. The staff was nice and got our order done quick. The banana pudding cup was very good but the chocolate pudding was just okay in comparison
I placed and order on Door Dash for 2 items. The employee put my 2 items in one box. I did not want the 2 items in one box. I wanted separate boxes. Then they give the delivery man my order, no utensils, no napkins, and no bag. Unprofessional! When i go in person to Little Cupcake, I want my regular slice cake.
I have been coming here for years and for the past few months, the shop has gone down hill. The size of the cupcakes and cake slices have gone down while prices have increased by 40%. Customer service is also unfriendly and generally bothered by customers placing orders. The businesses are really taking hits with rising costs and you can see that the owners are cutting costs via quality of goods and wages for their employees. And they don't care and are unbothered by customer feedback, clearly. Sigh. (Objects are smaller than they appear)
Every positive bit of feedback about this place has nothing to do with the baked goods. Kudos for having vegan options, but wow, we’ve gotta step it up on flavor because EEEYUCK. 3 cupcakes, 1 chocolate chip cookie and a peanut butter bar totaling $25. All of it tasted like stale air, it was evident that the vegan goods are days old and hard. The one positive is it reminded me just how spoiled I am as a vegan in Brooklyn. Absolutely disgusting, and I mean everything. Might as well take them off the menu and start from scratch. I see that you all are hiring, I considered applying to give this feedback more directly because the vegan baked goods are in crisis. Vegans, take your business to Clementine’s
I'm here to echo some of the other recent reviews from the past year or so. I used to LOVE this place, and always got my birthday cake here, not to mention cake and coffee throughout the year. Lately the service has gone way down, in terms of staff attitude. Additionally, the cake quality and quantity have decreased, while prices have increased. The last few times I got cake, it was a noticeably smaller slice, and sometimes not very fresh. Really really sad. Doesn't seem like the managers read these either.
I ordered a burrito and it was extremely disappointing. It was completely dry and made up of about 90% rice. It’s ridiculous — I paid $17 for what was basically a rice wrap. Definitely not worth the money.
Honestly, I didn't like a single thing about my experience with this place like im really not a picky or high maintenance person but this place really bothered me. 1) The most average (maybe even below average) Mexican food I have ever had and I expected a lot more at this price point. 2) The music was so loud, it was uncomfortable to sit inside and eat. 3) The service was very slow and the staff I interacted with was rude... Please eat/spend your time at any other Mexican restaurant in nyc and I can guarantee you'll be happier.
This place consistently is 20-30 mins late with pickup order times. The worst is that when you arrive their customer service is unfriendly and rude and they act like they don't even have customers. They also apparently stopped giving out chips with burritos. Makes you wonder how else with the food they're trying to save money.
The food was subpar, the margaritas were awful, and the attitude of the woman who we gave our order to (and paid our money to) was INCREDIBLY RUDE. The food was not flavorful, and the sauces at the sauce bar were NOT flavorful. Definitely wont be returning. There are many restaurants to choose from on Vanderbuilt and many other Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood that offer good food and service. The last time I will be going there! **In response to the restaurant's response below*** "There are many establishments in the neighborhood that exceed my expectations — offering great atmosphere, fair prices, and quality food and drinks. I visited your restaurant hoping to support local and experience authentic food, culture and try something new, but unfortunately, my experience fell short. I was met with a dismissive attitude from the hostess/cashier, poorly made margaritas, and subpar customer service, which was only reinforced by your condescending response (see below). While I genuinely hoped to enjoy and support your business, there are simply better options in the area — sadly, even a place like Chipotle offers better food and a more welcoming experience. I’ll choose to spend my money where customers are treated with respect. Thank you for taking the time to read my review, and I sincerely wish you the best moving forward."
Customer service is incredibly important to me. It’s the cornerstone of any successful business, and when it falls short, it can leave a lasting impression. Recently, I had an experience that underscored just how crucial this aspect is. My partner kindly ordered me a burrito from a restaurant I enjoy after a long day at work. I was excited to dive into my meal, but upon unpacking my super burrito in a separate tin, I was stunned to find that it only contained beans, chicken, and white rice. For context, this isn’t how it’s supposed to be; it’s typically loaded with guacamole, cheese, sour cream, and other delicious ingredients. Feeling disappointed, I decided to call the restaurant to request a refund for my incomplete meal. Unfortunately, this is where my experience took a turn for the worse. The first person I spoke with, a young lady, informed me that I would have to wait while they reviewed the security footage to verify the preparation of my burrito. It felt as though she was questioning my honesty rather than addressing my valid concern. After that awkward exchange, I was transferred to a representative named Dan. Sadly, my interaction with him was equally frustrating. He told me that I should have called earlier for a refund, disregarding the fact that I was at work when my partner placed the order for me. His tone was condescending, and he seemed more interested in deflecting blame rather than finding a resolution that would leave me feeling satisfied as a customer. Throughout our conversation, he implied that I was fabricating my circumstances, which only added to my frustration. Now, I am formally requesting a full refund due to the lack of effective communication and the overwhelming sense of disregard for my situation. It’s disheartening when I hold a restaurant to a standard of accountability and customer care, only to find they fall short. I believe businesses should prioritize their customers and handle situations with the utmost care and professionalism, particularly when errors occur.
Steer clear! First of all I don’t know how people eat here. The quality of this food is horrible. We waited over 30 mins for 5 tacos 2 chicken, 2 fish 1 birria. The chicken was sooo old it was dry and we couldn’t even eat it was not grilled as stated and it only had chopped onions not pepper and onions as stated on menu horrible hard and stale. The fish was over breaded and warm. The birria was bland and flavor lacked. Honestly I would never go here again. Why make us wait for 30 minutes to give us old food!!
UPDATE! 5/1/23; See I love their food so much, of course I was going to order again duhh! I ordered my regular nachos w shredded chicken as always and omg it was amazing and tasted so fresh! This is the flavor I am used too! 😋 I ordered around 12pm, delivered in about 15m and I'm happy & stuffed! New 6 sec vid added, forgot to take a pic bc I was so hungry an just dug in. 🤗 Thanks Maya Taqueria you made the future bday girl day! Bday 5.2 btw I guess they were having an off day.🤷🏾♀️ Dry nachos, sour cream watery, pico de gallo had no taste like it was old, very little meat and it was a large! I called and told them about it, they sent me a replacement, 2nd meal was the same exact way 🤦🏾♀️ I was back an forth In the bathroom all evening after eating this dry nonsense so I really hope this food wasn't old or something. IDK, they gotta do better.
