Original Ricky's Brooklyn Reviews
The aroma of jerk chicken and the rhythmic beat of reggae music filled the air as you stepped into "Island Vibes," the best Jamaican restaurant in Brooklyn. Owned and operated by the warm and welcoming couple, Ricky and Juliette, this small yet vibrant eatery was a true gem. Ricky, a master chef with a passion for authentic Jamaican cuisine, meticulously crafted each dish with love and care. From the succulent oxtails simmered to perfection to the flavorful escoveitch fish, every bite was an explosion of island flavors. Juliette, a whirlwind of energy, ensured the smooth running of the kitchen, her laughter echoing through the space as she coordinated orders and checked on her husband. The front of house was equally impressive. Lotaya, Kerry, and the ever-gracious Ms. Loretta, the matriarch of the family, provided impeccable service with genuine smiles. They knew every regular by name, remembered their favorite dishes, and always went the extra mile to make sure every customer felt like family. The restaurant itself might have been small, but it overflowed with warmth and personality. The walls were adorned with vibrant colors and the space was filled with natural light, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Laughter and lively conversations filled the air, creating a true taste of island life in the heart of Brooklyn. Whether you were a seasoned foodie or simply looking for a taste of something new, Island Vibes was an experience you wouldn't soon forget. The delicious food, the friendly faces, and the vibrant atmosphere made it a true neighborhood treasure.

Great local Jamaican spot right off the C train. The Mac and Cheese and Pasta were so good!
Love their fried shrimp n Rasta pasta. But everything from there is pretty good
Staff is so nice! I went in there and got rice and peas with jerk chicken. It was $6.50 for a small plate. I thought the price was reasonable. They gave me extra vegetables and sauce. Whenever I am in the area, I’ll be back.
The food is always fresh. So, if you have a craving for oxtails, stop in and try them. The vegetable rice is nice and moist, not sticky or dried out like what you see at other places.
Superb cooking and beautiful looking tasty food, honestly speaking 😋😋
Friendly/attentive staff, and knowledgeable about the products they carry. Its in my neighborhood so I stopped in to purchase a clipper set for home use. At checkout I was impressed when the shopkeeper opened the packaging to show me everything was intact, and also the manufacturer warranty information and how to register my new machine. I'm a licensed cosmetologist, so I appreciate this level of service and have gone back several times and bought a couple higher-end professional clippers/trimmers, one of them the harder to find Cordless Magic Clipper by WAHL. I like the place because I get that local 'Mom and Pop shop' experience; they've come to recognize me from my repeat visits, we chat a bit, they tell me about new products they've got and ask how then ones I've already gotten from there are working out.. Much nicer than just buying from the net or some big-box or chain retailer. #shoplocal

Delicious curried goat, tender and tasty (if pricy) oxtail, good (but a bit dry) jerk chicken. Not many choices of sides the day we went.
The air-conditioning was ideal not too cold and not warm because it was warm that day I went. The staff were helpful to the customers based on my observation.

$52 on two medium oxtail, one had a side of sweet plantains (4 for $1) the other Rasta pasta ($2) and a side of Mac and cheese ($5). No flavor or the Rasta pasta and Mac and cheese. I was disappointed. The rice was good oxtail was ok, in a thin watery sauce which is fine, the meat was soft and fell off the bone but didn’t find much flavor

First time here, the food was decent but I wish they gave less rice and more cabbage because it was delicious and cooked well. Rice was plan and very bland nothing special about it it was missing salt! Fried chicken was very good.
The food is just ok not the best not the worst !! And there's always a line and only one person serving. Very stingy with the soup was giving just broth and chicken called them up and told them they said to come in for a free soup but it still hardly had any food in it ! 😒 dont think i will be going back.

Everyone will skip you. Employees will not even try to whisper as they assume your sexual orientation. None if it has to do with the food the soul or the culture. Your welcome.

I will not be spending my money at this place again. I see the old lady with the glasses give a Jamaican guy a small oxtail meal. Which they said, they don’t do small oxtail. I stood right there and watch her give the guy a small oxtail meal. Then she gonna lie right in my face and say it was a different kind of meat and then she went to Ricky’s and spoke to him. He tells me he don’t do small oxtail meal. I guess they only accommodate their own kind “Jamaicans”. They just lost a good customer, I’ll go elsewhere
If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience at Ricky’s was nothing short of a nightmare, thanks to their appalling customer service. I placed an order for pickup via DoorDash, it said it would take 20 mins. I showed up 35 mins later and when I asked for my order I was told by the very rude lady behind the counter that it wasn’t ready and I have to wait. When I asked why she was dismissive, unhelpful, and rude. She stated they have a line ( which was only 4 ppl waiting in line). I then asked how much longer and her reply was “I don’t know when we get to it”. I asked to cancel my order and she said “you have to do it in your end, not our problem”. She made no effort to rectify the situation. This place clearly values turnover over quality service. There are far better restaurants in the area that actually appreciate their customers. Save your time, money, and patience—avoid Ricky’s at all costs.
Walked into this establishment and said good morning directly to the woman at the counter. She looked at me, rolled her eyes and completely ignored me. Not even 15 seconds later, a man walks in and the same woman loudly and cheerfully greets him..as Mr. George. In that moment I felt unseen and that I wasn’t welcomed in the establishment so though I did intend on getting the chickens soup with the jerk salmon meal I thanked her and walked out. Personally will never ever give this place my money.
Over price and food is trash 🗑 😒 2 dollar for a piece of stew chicken

Will never go there again, Went there and ordered an Oxtail Dinner and a Roti , Spend all this money just to get 4 Dry pieces of oxtail DRY! one piece was just fat no meat other piece small so,, And a tray of old dry rice & beans (hardly no beans) And the kicker No Gravy or nothing not a drop..They Didn't have no plantains, No better solution and just it's just a Sad Salad, I feel robbed you spent all this money for food and it didn't taste good and it was dry.. Then to the Roti Open it up just a lot of roti bread no filling hardly no meat or gravy just a lot of bones and bread. Waste of money.
Honestly I’ve eaten at better places This is what I got for 30 plus dollars I ordered oxtails and rice and peas with salad as a side. 1st let me say my salad was 3 little pieces of lettuce and one sliver of tomato and one sliver of bell pepper wrapped in a very small square of foil wrap as if a kid was eating this petite thing As for my oxtails and rice 🤯 Let’s just say the oxtails was hard or either old And the rice was the only thing edible I don’t know how this place has such great reviews Guess ppl really don’t know good West Indian food Go to Pattie Hut grill On Nostrand a million times better than this place and we’ll worth your money I wish I could give zero stars or talk to the ppl that over rated this place...... sheeesh
