Roots Cafe Brooklyn Reviews
I stop in here when I get film developed around the corner. Everyone I've spoken to has been great. The food and coffees have been great, too. You can tell it's a community hub. Neat place.
Great vegan breakfast burrito options. Creative local art everywhere. Cozy respite from the NYC winter morning with charming staff.
I became a regular over the past few months. The single origin drip they have is great. The apple cheddar scone is something I didn’t know I needed in my life. Most of all, I love the sense of community this little coffee shop creates and the rotating art that’s hung up on the walls. It reminds me of something I would find in Asheville, NC.
Super good vibes, and yummy coffee. They do free waffles and coffee on Christmas. It’s such a lovely place, run by kind folks.
The food was an absolutely amazing experience! The chef’s recommendation was top-notch. I had the pleasure of enjoying the garlic butter shrimp served with white rice and broccoli — it was the best I’ve ever had. The specialty-made rum punch had just the right amount of rum and complemented the meal perfectly. What truly stood out was the chef’s passion and care in explaining each dish and beverage. It was an unforgettable dining experience from start to finish!
Genuinely the best caramel latte in Brooklyn!! Really cozy atmosphere, gorgeous art from local artists, and every barista is an absolute angel 😇 Cannot recommend enough. If you arrive early enough definitely give the cheddar chive egg sandwich a go, they always sell out quick. Such a nice place to get some writing done.
First time in today & I love it. I had the salted caramel latte and it was so delicious ! The best I've had in a very long time. They have such cute & unique jewelry too , what a find. The Barista was actually welcoming & friendly, which is unfortunately rare in the neighborhood and I've lived here for over 40 years. The place is so warm and cute, and they have a cute little kid section where they can play - so thoughtful for mommies . Highly recommended, I'll come back & try the food next time
These photos are from the summer, but I'm here right now in the cold and it's very cozy. Love their vegan breakfast burrito...have gone out of my way to come to this neighborhood to get it. Prices are reasonable, service is kind, and I love the space. Seats often fill up. Love their ethics too—there's currently a food donation box, and they hosted free Thanksgiving dinner last Thanksgiving.
The people here are so genuinely kind and awesome. The place is (ugh I hate to even use this word but it is the only way to describe it) vibrationally such a positive and safe space. It is everything you’d expect when you think “quaint Brooklyn low key coffee shop hang out”. It is a gem. The food is amazing; the coffee is strong; the service is fast. Thank you for making this place exist.
What an adorable little cafe, giving back to the community during this time with a free food panty and serving delicious Raspberry hibiscus iced tea, YUM! I am told the sandwiches are delicious and there was a small line of folks excited to get some. Owner was friendly and gave me tips on making espresso at home, Ha! Appreciate it!
Very nice place and crew, the food is good we order the cheddar biscuit and the conveyor sandwich both of them were good. The cheddar biscuit over the conveyor sandwich (it was just missing to be a little bit toasted) I bet if you ask they would do it. Cozy but comfortable vegan variety and not vegan if you not into it.
We found this place on our last day in New York. I wish we'd found it sooner because it was such a nice place, the staff in particular were so lovely. This was my first cheese grits experience and I loved it! Cheesy poridge... How can you not love it! Loved all the artwork of old world America on the walls.
We wanted to grab breakfast on the 1st day of the new year before heading out for the day and quick Google search I stumbled upon this Brooklyn gem. The food and service did not disappoint. Upon entry there is a unique artsy vibe that any New Yorker or lover of art would appreciate. Discovered that the art was done by the owner. Now let’s talk about the food, the food was absolutely superb. The burritos were diverse in flavors and plentiful. We could tell that the creator took their time to curate each dish.
Recommended here by a friend and I can't say it wasn't a solid recommendation. Salted caramel Latte is delicious and strong in flavor even the drip coffee is flavorful drank it black needed no cream or sugar and the breakfast burrito and Sammie breakfast sandwich were both delicious and satisfying. The only gripe I have is the interior had a strange unshowered hippy smell and a little bit of a try hard hipster vibe to it but I did appreciate the family vibe there with what looked like owners or employees children's drawings on the wall and a overall relaxed attitude is refreshing definitely felt like a little Venice Beach coffee shop thrown into Brooklyn.
Nice place, the ppl were friendly… but my drink didn’t taste good. I would try again and order something different to see if it’s just that drink.
I recently visited Roots Café on 5th Ave 18th Street and unfortunately had a pretty disappointing experience with their vegan options. I tried the vegan burrito called “Jamie’s,”(maybe spelled differently) and the tofu scramble in it was just plain gritty and lacked any real flavor. Even the salsa on the side tasted bland. To add to that, the vanilla oat milk cappuccino I ordered had a strange, almost alcoholic like off taste to it, like something was not quite right with the milk or the coffee. On the plus side, the café itself is cozy and the staff were really warm and welcoming. Overall, I’d say if you’re vegan and looking for great flavors, this might not be the spot. Two stars for the nice ambiance and friendly people, but the food and drink were a letdown.
