Sunrise Sunset Brooklyn Reviews
Clean and comfortable warm environment, customer focused, delicious food.
every single table wobbles and insane amount and I spill my drink everywhere almost every time I sit at any of the tables but 5 stars cuz ion wanna mess up anyone’s business but I wonder if there’s a fix to this? Amazon sells table stabilizers. <3
The iced vanilla lattes are superb! The peanuty butter cookies are heavenly. And the fact that they serve coffee even at 9 pm makes this place my forever go-to!
This is a go to spot for me on a slow work day when I want the change of scenery. It's close to home, generally good vibes from the business and clientele, at least for me. It doesn't turn into a hectic performance spot or anything, it stays laid back, day into night. Coffee's not bad, this is Bushwick and there are more specialized/coffee snob spots...does the trick. Food is definitely better than your average Bushwick coffee shop. They have space and an actual kitchen for things, they got in here early on. The line does gets pretty long, 5-7 deep. There are alot of people that are in and out of here...but the owners have 2-3 folks working at all times of the day, and they are working...it's really just that busy, alot of condos have gone up in the past 10 years, and nobody has time to make their own coffee apparently, they can't be bothered to pick it up from the literal gazillion bodegas around here...but they're in enough of a rush to wait on this particular 10 deep line? Make it make sense lol, I'm sure the owners can't complain end of day. This spot is really designed for the work from home/day off crowd, glad it's here. P.S. - Someone mentioned Chez Alex...that place is good, but it's crammed in there and nowhere near Sunrise, other side of Broadway!
Had the best experience here! The workers are so kind and friendly! My latte was outstanding, and my BLT was delicious. I definitely will be returning. The vibes were incredible. Mico & Luke have the best service.
This place is impressive with their food. Perfect local spot for a drink and some grub. Vibes are on point. Prices are very very reasonable nowadays. I highly recommend.
I always come here for the mushroom mac and a cortado. The staff is amazing, and I love coming here on their movie nights on the projector. There’s always something going on so you get to meet a ton of people. They’re doing some renovations now, so I hope movie nights come back!
Great cafè! Love the drinks and the vibe, although I miss how they used to hang local artists' work for sale before their interior-redesign. It would be great if they brought that back.
Really cool spot. Have been going here lately. Their sunrise sandwich is really good. They also have Ryze mushroom coffee which is something I haven’t seen in any other place
i come here basically every day; the coffee is great and everyone who works here is always super nice, especially mico!
This is one of my favorite spots in Bushwick to sit and work on my days out of the office. The atmosphere is so peaceful and the employees are always friendly. I’ve had I think the entire entree menu and you can’t go wrong with anything, especially the burgers. Glad this place is thriving after the past few years.
Great space! They even have a little outdoor seating area in the back. Drinks were strong. Grilled cheese with fig jam is amazing. I also love the avocado toast and quinoa grain bowl. Its cool that they have coffee, pastries, lunch stuff AND a full bar!
i’ve been here a handful of times. i have a friend that lives in the neighborhood and it’s always a fantastic time. the service is really friendly and efficient. there’s a lot of community events to partake in as well. love the dj events most of all chach and jay are great
The French Toast B.E.C. blew my mind. I go there for coffee but forgot that their food is so good too.
A chill corner cafe. Great place to spend a hot day drinking a cold brew, and switching to wine or cocktails around the hour it becomes socially acceptable (sources vary). Solid vibes and tunes lay the groundwork for great place to spend a "work from home" day, although it mostly seems like the people eating up the bandwidth are doing so watching Handmaid's Tale on Hulu. Despite this meetings between artistic professionals and consultants do occur, and some work does get done, hopefully before you've switched from espresso to mescal. One can easily be coerced into a chorizo grilled cheese (and yes yes this is New York so everything's expensive, even the grilled cheese). The Brooklyn cafe fare is the gateway drug that extends your stay here from a mid-morning sip to a full-day cafe marathon. Be advised, and be warned.
I grab my coffee from here everyday day. The staff always remembers my order! So happy to have a place so close. Always friendly staff! Especially Miko!
favorite local spot! all the staff are so warm and friendly. great food and vibes with vegan/vegetarian options love this place!
I really love this place. The salmon toast is divine, the music is always good. I also love their collage nights and jazz nights. It's a fun place to, eat, drink, and chill. I especially love their dirty martini.
Sunrise Sunset is an absolute gem! Their Bloody Mary mix is a game-changer - freshly made on the spot, bursting with flavor and just the right amount of kick. But it's not just about the drinks; the staff here are incredibly kind and attentive, making every visit feel like a warm welcome. If you're in the mood for a delightful cocktail experience paired with exceptional service, amazing food and chill vibes, look no further than Sunrise Sunset. 🤍
The barista Sierra (I think that’s her name) always makes my day!!! There’s such a welcoming atmosphere; I’ve made a bunch of friends here just from hanging out. And the food is excellent. Definitely 10/10 all around.
So I no longer live in Bushwick… I did from 2011 till 2020… I remember when this place open! It was an answered fair honestly. I was randomly thinking about them today, they survived the pandemic and still in business. Happy that they are! You can tell the barista treat coffee like an art, the taste, the actual latte art. Love this place! I crave their avocado toast, and lattes often! This brightens their day, that all the way across the country still thinks of them ♥️
**Edited** THANK YOU! The garlic aioli is back!!! Incredible response time and adjustment by this business, so kudos to the owner and the chef. I appreciate you bringing back the Aioli SO FAST and I have already had one of the sunrise sandwiches… I will be back tomorrow, and next weekend, and the weekend after… 10/5 this place HITS and shoutout to Nico for being a homie and providing the best service ever ******* I write this review with incredible disappointment. I came to Sunrise/sunset every single weekend for the last 6 months to have their sunrise breakfast sandwich. It was something I looked forward to every single weekend. I was VERY passionate about this sandwich and told everyone it was the #1 breakfast sandwich in New York. Unfortunately they recently decided to change the ingredients. They are no longer making their garlic aioli and instead have decided to use an incredibly mediocre, vegan alternative. They decided to consolidate the menu, which I understand, but this has to be the single worst business decision they have made. Because of the change of aioli the entire flavor profile of the sandwich changed. I couldn’t even finish it when I went there for the last time. The bartender dismissed my comment about the aioli even though I was giving feedback as a paying, ex-loyal customer. I regret to say I will not be going back and have told my close friends the same. Incredibly disappointing and a MAJOR setback to my weekend routine, and for their customer base. If the owner is reading this, please please PLEASE ask the chef to make the garlic aioli again so I can come back!!! I miss this place. sincerely, A passionate customer looking for a reason to return.
Second time visiting this place. The staff here are pretty friendly and nice. Today sat and had a coffee at the bar area and zoned out on my phone the barista checked on me a few times to see if I needed anything witch was pretty nice and we made some small talk. I really liked the vibes not "uptight" or too "sceney". This place is a little out of my way but I will now being returning more frequently on afternoon walks to explore the menu. Great service, great coffee, great crowd.
Had our engagement party here, and it was perfect. Henry (the owner) helped us organize and plan a menu for ~40 guests. Everyone had a great time - service was friendly and drinks+food were delicious. Really a special night - thanks!
I live in the area and I come to this cafe every week since I moved a year ago. The service is always great! I love Mico and Ciara. They are always so kind and friendly. I definitely feel a sense of community and because the service is great it keeps me coming back.
I dropped by today for my usual cold brew, but the line was super long. I was already running late for a doctor's appointment, and it must've shown. When I finally got up to the register the barista this morning already had my cold brew ready (with a top and everything). I asked how he knew and he just winked! I was out in a flash with a skip in my step to boot. I've been going for over a year now, and I really can't recommend this place enough. The decor feels like a McDonald's, but the atmosphere and people are fantastic.
perfect place to hang out on a sunny day, with plenty of nooks inside and outside to catch rays or rest in the shade. staff is always welcoming. eating the tuna melt rn, which seems to have a surprisingly delicious secret formula. I’m moving to another neighborhood soon—I’ll miss coming here while doing my laundry!!
Love this place. Good coffee, the baristas are friendly (a rarity in bushwick tbh), and the weird French toast sandwich is the perfect hangover cure. A bit expensive, but overall a good neighborhood spot.
Honestly the best breakfast I’ve found in Bushwick. Really like this place situated along a street with a good bike lane. It’s a bit pricey but they have nice coffee and a solid environment to hang out. Outdoor booth and bench as well. The food takes a while and is usually different depending on who is working the kitchen. Fun spot.
The chai is delicious! And highly recommend the BLT - best quality ingredients! Note that they don’t allow laptops on the weekend
What can I say, the meals here are incredible!! Well thought out food concepts, great flavors, presentation on point, outside and inside seating options, family friendly and vegetarian friendly too. What more could one need 😅— I love Brooklyn! And you all make us appreciate Brooklyn more so thanks for your contribution to our community here in BK 💕
Nico is the best! I moved to the city recently and Sunrise/Sunset immediately became my go-to coffee shop. He quickly memorized my order and has always greeted me like a friend! It makes the big city feel a bit more like home. The coffee and food are incredible but the personalized and friendly service is what keeps me coming back! :)
What I have learned and seen in NY, small businesses with little eating space. This little restaurant is a gem, though. Whomever made my breakfast sandwich it was made with love. Fresh and hot!
I spend a couple hours here a couple times a week and I bring friends who are visiting here. The Sunrise sandwich is delicious as is everything on their menu that I've tried. I like the Sunrise sandwich on the croissant more than the roll. I don't smoke, but the smoking on the patio reminds me of Europe (a good thing -- especially when I see the whiny, new-to-Bushwick hipsters get offended that someone dare smoke... in a smoking area). I like the vibe, but it can get packed on weekends. Small kitchen, so service can be slow... but it's worth the wait.
The environment was nice and the waiters were very sweet, however I think that the food was generally ok. Nothing was bad but nothing was really good. The overall experience was nice though.
Had a really good caramel iced latte and a great egg sandwich (sunrise sandwich). Kind of a picky eater but the arugula and garlic aioli was sooo good. Only bad thing is the menu is a little limited and of course it’s a little pricey. It’s indigenous peoples day and there are a bunch of people on laptops hogging tables, idk if that’s different on a weekday / non holiday.
Finally went to Sunrise/Sunset after meaning to come here after moving to Bushwick over a year ago but kept slipping my mind. I finally made it and have been a new regular. Super great oat-milk lattes (my jam) and had an amazing Aperol Spritz from the most friendly bartender there but dang, I didn't ask his name or would otherwise give him kudos. Aperol Spritz can very much vary in quality and taste. I've had some amazing ones and some completely terrible ones (haha). Love the blue exterior and the orange interior but think the place could be spiced up a bit with some fun art by local artists (ahem, happy to provide), and maybe more comfy seating since I personally hate hardback chairs but other than that, super delightful place. I want to come back for the collage event and Friday jazz nights as I both love art and live music, especially jazz. I love that a place like this offers fun events like that. Oh yes, one more thing.....by random chance I discovered a little narrow back patio which has to be the best part of the establishment. Was romantic on a summer night as people were playing games and having stellar convos (or so it seemed). Seems to be more of a younger crowd (Bushwick theme) but have seen a bit of all varieties of the human species. :)
I was lucky enough to be invited here on a Thursday night. I met Niko! That's what I have to say. He's an amazing, empathetic, down to earth human that is very knowledgeable about the offerings here at this super cute space. I came too late to indulge in the food. I will be back to try those. I asked him to make me a tequila based drink but surprise me. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't know if this drink has a name but it's cool and refreshing for a tequila based drink. I will ask for it again. Coming back for the French toast BEC! And Mac and cheese. A great night indeed !
This is a cozy cafe, which would be perfect for getting some work done, but also a great place to grab a drink or a meal! The rustic risotto ($12) was delicious and the first time I've had risotto made with farro. The BLT ($11), mushroom mac ($9), and lox toast ($12) were also solid choices and filling enough for dinner, with reasonable prices. They also have changing daily soups. The orange wine was refreshing and light. On top of that, the servers are so sweet and attentive!
I got SCARED I walked in to the storefront / cafe and I did not see breakfast anywhere. I then realized it just opened lol . I love the music the vibe and the coffee ......... great biscuits and gravy and a side of sausage ...... very inexpensive and the place is perfect ... look at the school chairs ! So hipster
Popped by here this afternoon and it was heavenly! The service is always so good on Mondays and the atmosphere really cozy & welcoming. The baristas are so nice and really go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. This is my regular spot and I will be back many more times!
Coffee is always consistently good. Ordered the egg sandwich… it was tasty but I feel like the egg sandwich would benefit from two eggs instead of just one. One egg sandwich feels like not enough egg to call it an egg sandwich … yummy but please add another egg 🐔🍳🥚
cute spot, got brunch here. friendly baristas and cashier. got the french toast which was just okay-- dry and i think shouldve had whipped cream or something. biscuits and gravy were great though. also no decaf espresso options but they have a yuzu seltzer which is fun
In general the place is really nice and chill. The staff is very friendly and all the employees are residents of the neighborhood, which gives the spot a really good feel and vibes. There is a super nice back yard and enough tables to choose from. So why not 5 stars? Cause something is missing, the food is nice, but not great, the music is good but not amazing. I'll keep coming back cause I like the place. It is a very nice cafe.
Nice little neighborhood spot! Coffee can be hit or miss but delicious food regardless. I loved the BLT but since they stopped using arugula it really doesn’t hit the same :( Sad about it
I second the Chez Alex recommendation for breakfast in the area. Better food, better service. This place is ok. Bizarre that they don't offer any breakfast combos, like 2 eggs + sausage+ salad. It's all a la carte and, as a result, ends up being too expensive. $3 for an egg? The best aspect is that it's right across from my laundromat. The worst is that they serve the food on plastic plates. Water glasses are also plastic. Hello microplastics.
Great atmosphere for a chill coffee shop/drinking spot. Outdoor seating and smoking area in the back. Brunch/lunch/dinner are a bit overpriced although the food is decent. Also alcoholic drinks are a bit pricey as well, but you pay for the atmosphere. Built for Bushwick hipsters. Ultimately best when looking for a place to do work with a computer during the day time.
Great local spot to linger in while your laundry finishes across the street. Really nice staff, solid playlist in the background, a few good beer and many fresh cocktail options. The food is good as well, though portions are small.
I love this spot - it’s my joint. The people that work here are the absolute best. Sierra, Gio, Luke, Dan, Miko - would die for you. I will say - we could use some turkey bacon as a sub for our religiously diverse folks and I struggle with how small the portions for the price - particularly the soups, pastas, grains etc.
I’ve enjoyed each of my trips of Sunrise/Sunset— I’m never disappointed by the food or pastries and I love the bustling vibe, watching it switch to a cool wine bar in the evening. The screening of “The Holdovers” made for a lovely date night! The staffing setup is confusing to me, however. I work retail (very different ballgame but still customer service), so I can understand being understaffed at certain points in the day. But each time I come, there is usually only one employee responsible for taking orders, making espresso drinks, among others tasks— the whole nine yards. It makes the process unnecessarily lengthy, sometimes taking as long as 20 minutes from walking through the door just to get to the front of the line. It seems like there could be a more efficient way to do this because the coffee is good, but almost certainly not worth such a wait.
I love this place. Comfortable and relaxing atmosphere for brunch and to sit and study. Food can sometimes take a while but quality is good. Their french toast is great. Drinks are good but their iced cappucinos aren't always very strong. Other than that though I love coming back here.
This cafe has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff are friendly and caring people. Their food is always delicious. Some items on the menu are pricey but I absolutely recommend to come by and morning, evening or late night at this spot.
I found this visit to be pretty neutral in a good way. The setting was easy to settle into. Everything happened as expected.
I've been in the neighborhood for awhile now, and this has been one of my go-to spots for several years. If I could leave separate reviews for the staff and for how this place was run, I would. FIVE STARS. The staff here is INCREDIBLE. Mico, Luke, Alysha, Leina, et al. are phenomenal and truly make this place feel like home. This place would not be the same without them. Lately, the recent changes to Sunrise/Sunset have made this place feel less than welcoming. As someone who works from home several days a week at Sunrise, the WiFi limits seem like a puzzling choice to make as a business, especially as a coffee shop. And now there is a recent ban on computers on the weekends? This seems erratic and like SS is shooting itself in the foot. Bushwick is a community of artists who do not work regular hours. Why would you purposefully exclude your customer base from going to your place of business? Especially when there are other local coffee shops without these limitations like La Ziza down the street, Cup of Brooklyn, and The Buren. Here's to hoping that Sunrise can return to its former glory. I would hate for the magic of SS to disappear with more seemingly unnecessary admin changes. **On a side note, Sunrise also used to have a ton of different events that were free to attend, and it feels like the events programming has also declined over the past year aside from Collage Night.
It's a cozy spot in a neighborhood that's changed a lot since I grew up around there. Can't really go wrong with a latte. The only problem I have is the dogs. They shouldn't be allowed in a venue where food is being served and consumed. On one occasion, there was a barking match that nearly turned aggressive when three dogs started going at each other.
This is a night neighborhood spot with good coffee (especially their espresso) but the pastries need a lot of work. I’ll be coming back for coffee but would skip the pastries or try one of their sit-down breakfast items.
Sunrise/Sunset Layout/atmosphere *Coffee shop by day, bar by night; bar area, tables; tables on sidewalk Service *Food took a little bit to come out Food/drink *Chicken Salad Sandwich (oven roasted chicken, spicy mayo, and fresh herbs) on sourdough roll - good; toasted roll; little kick from mayo *Blueberry Crumb Muffin - good; small bits of crumb cake inside *Latte (Iced/Oat Milk) - solid
Come in, hit the counter, settle down and prepare for some good eats! The French Toast was absolutely bangin', the tapanade grilled cheese was tremendously decadent, and the cold brew was refreshing and bold. If you need a quick and reasonably priced meal, this is a great place to get that need satisfied!
Outside area is quiet, pretty, and fun for a group. Inside is whateva. Good coffee drinks and nice to have a pastry selection. The food that was available was delicious, but there was a surprising lack of burgers (none) considering the quantity of burgers on the menu. I didn't like the price but I was also really tired so I might have been biased.
This place has SO much potential. It is so cute and great food but do not go here when you are hungry or in a hurry. Every time is takes 30+ mins to get a breakfast sandwich and avocado toast. The kitchen is always “backed up”. There is a line out the door, not because they are so popular but because they are constantly understaffed and slow. Go with plenty of time. Sunrise Sunset, hire more staff please.
Pros Cute place. Good food. Good coffee. Cool people. Cons Never enough seating. FORGET TRYING TO SIT WITH FRIENDS. They need to sort out a better layout because most tables are taken by one person with a laptop. Portions are small. The sun, as nice as it is shining in, the seating makes it impossible to face the window. Parking isn’t easy, but it’s Bushwich and that’s normal.
I want to really love this spot. It’s super close to my apartment, they’ve got some great outdoor seating, it’s a small business in Bushwick. Seriously, I want to be able to visit for breakfast, coffee and come back for drinks post work. I’ve given this spot at minimum 3 tries and every single time I’ve felt underwhelmed and mostly frustrated. Frustrated because a simple iced latte turns into a 30-40 minute wait regardless of how many or how few, people are there as well. Now I understand that staffing is difficult, but this has been the same issued I’ve experienced for the last 2 years and it has never seemed to get better. I think a previous reviewer mentioned it, but theres no sense of urgency (not that coffee demands to drop everything) but you are a paying customer and no other coffee shop would ever ask 30 minutes of their customers time. Ive attempted to stop by at different hours of the day in hopes things were better, but I’ve always been met by a long line out the door with out people waiting on coffee or food. I’m going to try and give this spot another chance, because again, they’re soooo close and I love the concept, and hopefully things start to improve.
Nice backyard patio area but the food and coffee are both average. If you dont care too much about how the coffee or food tastes this is a nice spot. Has a lot of potential though! Call me picky but some of my negatives were: - not having milk and simple syrup on the side for coffee customers (most good coffee places have this stuff) - actual taste/quality of coffee (snobby of me i know) - food feels like its just short of being great (if the bun on my sandwich was fresher or at least toasted it could have elevated the whole thing)
This place would be soo good if they used better quality matcha + dissolved it all the way when preparing and also pulled better espresso shots for coffee. I love the interior and cozy vibe, but the quality of food and coffee could really be taken to the next level with just a bit more training and attention to detail. I still support this coffee shop and love to see it continue to grow 🙏
Firstly, the food was excellent. I got the sunrise papas, and my friends got the BLT and sunrise sandwich. The service was poor. The person at the ordering counter was unnecessarily rude and passive aggressive to us. We ordered takeout and had ordered while in transit to the restaurant, so we arrived before the pick-up time. And while it’s fair to expect it to not be ready given we were early, every establishment is different and I’ve been to many that have it ready before the estimated time. So when we got to the counter, we were simply 1) inquiring about the status of the order and 2) letting them put a name to a face so they could hand it off to us when it was ready. The person’s tone and delivery was uncalled for. Lastly, the atmosphere was fine. It was busy when we arrived and clear that people often go there to work. There were some really interesting and captivating pieces of art around the restaurant
First visit- Overpriced small portions that took way too long to arrive Second visit- Friend and I were completely ignored by the barista chatting with friends for long enough that we just left
The French toast is good, if the cook could dip it in the batter, it would be perfect. 5 stars without a doubt. After watching different cooks make the French toast this past week since from the bar you can see the kitchen, the cook just squeezes some from a bottom to each side of the French toast. What that does is it leaves the inside of the French toast, dry. Excellent flavor near the top, as a French toast fan, like many others, I think an improvement on it will make this a must go to spot for French toast like “Sailor” or “Cafe Luluc”. The atmosphere here is perfect. Super chill, cozy feel. Loved it.
The wait times for food are long (15m for a side). The portions are laughable for the prices. $5 side of potatoes when the bag of fingerlings that weighs a pound is $5. This is about 1/4 of that. Their avocado toast is also like one piece of bread and a quarter of an avocado. The coffee quality is highly dependent on the barista. Often the shots are very long or inconsistent (ranging from 13s-23+s) and very bitter. I really like two of the workers there, very personable and define the room's atmosphere. Sunrise/sunset is mainly saved by the fact there's nothing else around. Also once saw that a worker was opening right after closing which makes me upset on their behalf given the hours of the operation. Their mushroom burger is good. A lot of the food tastes good, but is poorly portioned and the quality is not standardized.
once came here for drinks and was told 2 drinks in they didn't have a working bathroom(wouldn't let people use the staff one), had to walk my ass home to pee, should definitely disclose that before serving alcohol. Not really a great brunch spot or a great bar, awkward table setup, always another customer yelling on the phone indoors or having a fight. food is mid
The atmosphere is alright, the drinks were good and the service was so-so. I had the iced matcha latte which was tasty, but for brunch I ordered the tomato grilled cheese. We waited nearly an hour for food and the grilled cheese was bland and oily.
I have passed by this spot many times on my bike commute heading out west. Recently, I finally stopped in to do some work after taking a look at their promising menu. I ordered a cup of coffee and had the risotto and squash soup. While the squash soup was delicious, the risotto was downright nasty. The portions, too, were ridiculously small for their price ($10). The order also took forever and they play their music way too loud in my opinion.
Sunrise is okay. Prices are very expensive. We're looking at about $9 for a small chai latte. Not a very big menu. Atmosphere is okay.
It's extremely understaffed. It takes forever to get a simple coffee. The baristas also work slowly and have long conversations with customers instead of working on the 7 orders that are waiting. Most of the baristas are rude most of the time. There's maybe one friendly-ish barista that does the bare minimum of greeting you and asking for your order. Other baristas just stare at you silently and frown while waiting for you to order without saying that they're expecting you to order. It's like they only respect their regulars and hate you otherwise. I've watched them make the order of 5 regulars that came in after me before making me the easiest plain latte that takes 1 minute. Don't go here if you value your time and don't want to get to know a barista you won't see again for months. Their tips START at 20% and go up to 30%. The point of sale screen doesn't even have a "no tip" option, you have to go to "custom tip" and enter an amount. I don't think you need to tip 20% to have a muffin put in a bag, maybe 10%. They should pay their staff more and not make us pay them. The owners seem very greedy based on the tipping and the overpriced food. Edit: It's hilarious that the owner responded as if they were there. I'm 95% sure the owner doesn't even live in the state of NY because I've never seen a manager or owner there. There was a very long wait and the physical Point of Sales inside the cafe does indeed start at a 20% tip. It's absolutely pathetic that the owner thinks they can just fix their problems by being condescending on Google reviews instead of fixing their very real problems
We live right in corner of this beautiful place, we really love the coffee and the place, but unfortunately when my friends and I (we’re latins) goes there we felt like weird vibe hostile by some stuff members 👎
Coffee and food are decent, but staff might benefit from unconscious bias training. With a few exceptions, the baristas tend to only be welcoming and kind to their friends and people who look like them (hipster white women). The difference in treatment is stark enough that my partner, who is white, noticed and wondered why the baristas were very nice to him but cold towards me. It’s happened several times, and we can’t figure out why (we are polite, always tip, bus our tables, etc). Given that the baristas here have a reputation of being rude in general (see Reddit and Google reviews), perhaps the owner could set up an iPad where customers can put in orders ourselves, so we can avoid interactions with staff. With that said, I’m glad a coffee shop like this exists in the neighborhood, and it has a lot of potential. Will I be back? Probably, if i run out of coffee again and don’t feel like going far. Would I feel comfortable taking friends or members of my community here? No.
Its a good spot to hang w friends. Its cozy and good atmosphere. Good coffee but the food fell short for me. I ordered the salad chicken sandwich. It was very small, the said the baguette sandwich one was a good portion. I was totally dissatisfied! Still hungry after I finished my sandwich. Also, overpriced for this small sandwich. Very disappointed!
Ordered iced cappuccino. Came without foam :-(. Lowest tip option is 20%. The issue really is that the music is so loud. And it smells like strong cinnamon. I keep coughing. Won't come back here. Don't reccomend.
Poor service. I waited an hour to get my order, and the food is overpriced. The owner is an incredibly arrogant business owner who doesn't take feedback from customers seriously. There are other cafes in the area besides yours. Cafes such as Chez Alex are of far higher quality. Stop being arrogant, you wouldn't be in business if it weren't for the hipsters. You can't seem to welcome constructive criticism that will benefit your business. You are probably one of those WOKE toxic people.
Not really a great spot. Their menu is only really like 4 items. According to staff all pictures of food are mostly from when it was under a different management. Expresso machine has not been working (I mean this is a coffee shop). Very few outlets, space doesn't feel cozy or welcoming. Expensive, not worth it.
I live around the corner, so I've been to Sunrise even when it was just a "trendy" convenience store during COVID. I watched them open back up as a cafe and then a bar again. The food is ok, but it's a nice place to go to work and get things done on your laptop. I came in today to order a coffee. It's pretty close, so nowadays I just get a coffee from there, I don't really like what the atmosphere has become. I was hot, managing my dog (who is a registered service dog), and wanting to get in and out. The guy at the register had a bit of an attitude with me, and maybe because I wasn't super warm and friendly like everyone else, but usually when I order a drip coffee, it's brought to me in the front—this is also typically how its done in most coffee shops. This time he went over to chat with his friends and brings my coffee to the other side of the counter and shouts "Hey! Your coffee is here!" Again, I've been here multiple times and this has never been the case. It was a clear gesture on the baristas part to be snarky to me. I really didn't appreciate that. Sometimes people have bad days, sometimes people have good days. I work in customer service so I know. But, to respond to my reserved demeanor with pettiness just feels kinda low. I won't be returning here.
Listen….in theory this is a cute ideal spot….in reality? it’s filled with trust fund hipster servers who don’t technically have to work, but love an excuse to hang out ‘at a job’ and give bad service. We waited so long for our food that I was able to go home, cook a meal, shower, then come back, sit, sip my water and get hungry again. When we got half our order, half of half our order was incorrect and had to send it back. When we finally got all the food (correctly this time) our server blessed us with silence and some eye contact. And I know he can talk because he was able to hit on every girl who walked by him. All in all I’m thinking about starting a tour group that are interested in studying and understanding the vapid entitlement of the hipster mind and making Sunrise/Sunset our main attraction. Happy waitin—I mean- dining! (?) Don’t come in hungry!
Hipsters are going crazy in this neighborhood! Ordered a cup of soup and a sandwich, the server stated that they were short on the soup there’s was only a bit left (at top of the lunch hour) she gave me a discount and charged me $10 bucks for what you see in the picture! Whatta rip off ! Waited 20min to be served leftover soup and a lousy sandwich that they didn’t even bother to toast the bred… by the way, it’s 86’ outside and they had the AC blowing on 79’…
