Dunk after bar hopping stubbled upon best place I don't know if it was because of the alcohol but I can tell you one of the best fried chicken ever had, would put it in my top 10 fried chicken spots

One of the coolest bars in Williamsburg, The Commodore delivers a warm vintage atmosphere with an eclectic mixture of customers. The outdoor seating makes for some of the best people watching around. The food is actually delicious, especially the hot chicken sandwich. Their bartenders are fantastic but definitely a funny mixture of both warm and grumpy at times. Regardless, this is one bar you've got to experience. It's the local joint you need to know.

best chicken sandwich of my life 🥹 p.s. “hot” is pretty darn hot!

Late night and still right. If you’re looking for the best fried chicken sandwich and biscuits with honey butter you can get at 1:00 in the morning then you found your spot.

I love tuna sandwiches. I have always loved them ever since I was little. If I could eat a tuna sandwich for lunch every single day, I definitely would. So when I moved to Williamsburg and discovered the tuna melt at The Commodore, it changed my life. I have literally never had a better sandwich. I enjoy eating this sandwich more than any other sandwich. And my boyfriend also loves the chicken sandwich. You must try it.

The veggie burger tacos are amazing, I get these every time I visit Brooklyn and they never disappoint! All the staff are always very friendly, and it's got a really cool atmosphere and decor. There is not a huge choice of beer but the cocktails are first class.

Just wanted to give a post covid review. It is take out only and you order from the side window. I called in my order and it was ready in about 30 min. There were some people waiting in line to order but not too much of a wait. I was a little disappointed the fried chicken plate isn't on the menu currently because I love thighs but the chicken sandwich was just as good as pre-covid. The biscuits were amazing as always.

Funnest divey bar in this neighborhood, always a great vibe, cheap beers and tasty cocktails (get the piña colada), and a sneaky good kitchen (nachos / chicken plate is the way to go).

If you’re looking for the best nachos and chicken sandwich to ever grace the inside of a dingy dive bar, look no further than the Original Commodore. I’ll rave about this chicken sandwich to out of towners, fearing once I bring them there that I’ve over-sold it. I never have. Everybody agrees. Best in the game, baby! Easy cocktails and drinks. Old movies on the old TV above the bar. Expert trick is to order an extra Medium Breast chicken Sammy (the hot is too hot to actually taste), and bring it home for breakfast. Also, get the nachos for take out, and eat em with chop sticks. Thank me later.

Best Three piece chicken ever. Hip place, you sit yourself, order at the bar super simple. Nothing fancy nor pretentious about the place just go eat the three piece chicken and have some beers. It does get busy.

Loved the fried chicken. Chicken burger was good. Kale ceased salad great. - tourist from Australia

Very relaxed bar. It’s nice that it does not get too cramped or too loud. Drink prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are good. Fried chicken was 👌.

Oh my gosh the fried chicken sandwich here is AMAZING. It’s great they have late night food and the kitchen is open until 2 am. The drinks here are also great and the vibe is super cool. Definitely recommend this place for a fun night out in Williamsburg!

Excellent chicken biscuit. Order at the bar, seat yourself. Casual dining in the day, mostly people drinking later evening

Best burger in town. The service will always be a treat, because the bartenders are nice but also hate you on like a deep seeded level. Like it is not your fault they hate you, but they hate you. And that is part of their charm. Just order your drink, tip them and stay out of their way. The food is excellent, the Mojito and Piña Colada are the best thing on the drink menu but sometimes just a Modelo and a Burger will hit the spot. Can not recommend this place enough.

I got stood up here, but that's not gonna stop be from writing an awesome review. I had the chicken burger and it was perfectly seasoned and crispy. The drinks were great/ ice cold beer and mixed drinks were on point. The bartender was super nice and welcoming. I should've left disappointed for being stood up, instead I was pretty damn glad I came here= 5/5

Anyone you talk to who knows Commodore knows the food is way way better than you'd expect. Go for the Hot Breast sandwich. (Only available during the week) Bartenders are nice, friendly and helpful. One if my favorite bars for 10+ years.

We came here on a Sunday night around peak dinner time and were able to get a table. It’s self seating and you’ll have to order at the bar but service is quick and the food is even better. The fried chicken plate is a gem. Definitely some of the best fried chicken you can get in NYC. The last time we had it was almost a half a decade ago and it was still as amazing as the first time. Perfectly fried and all meat, barely any bone which was surprising and highly appreciated. The tuna melt was also fantastic, mixed with both red and white onion. The kale Caesar was slightly on the salty side but made a refreshing break between the fried chicken. Fries are fries, portion was huge. We spent about $70 dollars including tip for everything. Great place with even greater food! Would recommend.

Best fried chicken hands down. So crispy

M
Mohin Chanpura

Hands down the best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had! Ordered the medium breast instead of hot... not really spicy but sure packed with flavor, and the pickles tasted like I was back home in my mom's kitchen! Well worth the $17 price tag; a must try IMO.

My friends have mentioned The commodore for years but never really tried it. With that said, I have no pictures to share as the food was demolished in minutes. I’ll go out on a limb here but the fried chicken is top 3 that I have had in NY. Although they only have thighs, it’s amazing, crispy and juice as thighs should be…who needs drums? The biscuits were also great, flaking and worked great with the complementing honey butter. I also ordered the hot fish sandwich, DO NOT underrate the hot fish sandwich although this place is known for their fried chicken. I will be back.

C

Best spot for brunch or dinner. The chicken has a tasty and crispy breading that I cant seem to get enough of. Also, they serve Busch which is my favorite light beer! Dave the bartender is the coolest

g

This reminded me of “never judge a book by its cover”. I ordered the hot chicken sandwich with small fries. At first I was starting to get upset without tasting the sandwich. It looked cold and no made with love but it tasted AMAZING. The chicken didn’t look fresh and wasn’t too crispy and wasn’t hot but still was amazing with the coleslaw, the fries were hot and salty. It’s very dark, loud and artistic in there. I’ll be back.

The Commodore is one of my all time favorite places to get brunch in Brooklyn. We’ve been many times and have had several things on the menu. It’s a bit of a no-frills kind of place where the bartender lovingly ignores you, and there is no wait staff. You order at the bar and take a number to your table for the food to be delivered. Despite the divey-atmosphere, their food is unexpectedly good. Their Chicken Biscuit has a honey glaze that’s a perfect complement to the crispy fried chicken. I haven’t had a chicken biscuit that compares, and I now live in Charleston, SC. We’ve also had their nachos, and their kale salad which were really great. I also love their emphasis on frozen beach drinks. I end up drinking at least one Piña Colada every time I visit. Overall, The Commodore is a great place to meet with friends and have a few drinks and some good food. Nice relaxed atmosphere (no brunch lines), killer food, great drinks — You really can’t ask for more in Brooklyn.

The fries were good and the fish tacos were yummy. I didn't realize they were famous for their chicken platter and drinks so we'll have to come back cause this place is pop-u-lar.

D
David Oyeka

The fried chicken delivers. Crispy outside, juicy inside and a balanced level of spice which added the perfect kick. The coleslaw as a condiment added a sweet freshness as well. One of the best fried chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. Fries slapped, beer was cold and the art and seating layout were lovely. It’s a scene to be seen and enjoy an S-Tier sando.

I heard about their fried chicken for a while. It was fantastic. My husband enjoyed the brisket sandwich, and our friend enjoyed the chicken club. We even got an extra chicken plate to take home.

What a pleasant surprise! Kind of dark and dive bar-vibe when you walk in, so you wouldn’t expect much food wise. We ordered the kale ceasar salad (good), the friend chicken platter (great), and the shrimp po’ boy sandwich (downright excellent). Highly recommend!

big phat juicy chicken sandwiches, delicious cocktails, and a fun dive vibe. what more can you ask for? get the chicken and nachos, you won’t regret it. their frozen cocktails are great, I always go for the commodore— their take on a piña colada. it’s strong and delicious. will be back soon!

We found the Commodore while searching for a place to eat with my partner, after a late arrival into JFK. At first we were thrown by the well patinaed circa 1980 LES dive bar decor, not that there's anything wrong with that, just not what we expected. Service is no frills, order at the bar, they bring the food to your table. Drinks were strong and served lighting fast. The food was awesome, some of the best Fried Chicken I ever had, crispy, juicy and nicely seasoned. My partner had the Mexican Chicken Soup, she loved it and let me get a taste, I agreed, it was amazing. We will return for sure!

Good nachos and fried chicken sandwiches. Bar gets kind of crowded so can be a little tough during busy times to order food but if you’re a little patient this is a good spot

Probably the best chicken and biscuits in ny. That honey butter is perfect. Can get crowded...got lucky on a perfect Saturday late afternoon. Found a table, ordered at the bar...food took about 20 minutes. Fried to perfection..3 peices are perfect. Well worth the price. Do yourself a favor.

Great drinks. I had the rum punch 👊 yesss it did indeed hit. Queso and chips nice snack. It was a recommendation since our table wasn't ready at The Anselmo across the street. Love the atmosphere and music, which took me back in time. Very chill and relaxing with old-school games so bring your quarters. I recommend this place definitely going to try the chicken wings and fries next time, they look good

Consistently the best fried chicken in NYC. Crunchiest skin, comes out piping hot. Good biscuits, butter, and hot sauce that comes with it.

As a local guide I can honestly say they serve food till 2am and after watching Alex garland’s warfare, a pina colada, beyond burger, and mac&cheese was just what the doctor ordered. We also appreciated the miniature diorama to the left of the bar

This place has the best fried chicken I've had thus far in New York. The breading is the main event. Flavorful and crispy. The cheeseburger was killer. It had great beef flavor (we saw them walking in with the fresh beef!). The toppings on the burger were also great. The coleslaw had good flavor but an okay texture. The service was polite and quick. We are excited to go back and try more menu items!

I got dinner here last night with my favorite food creator and big bro, Rob Martinez. I'd never been to the Commodore, but when he suggested it, I accepted without a blink. A Rob recommendation is literal pixie dust. I entered 8 minutes before our scheduled time because my pops always told me "if you're on time, you're late." I entered and saw a 6'2 burly figure with a worn in nike hat and legendary beard sipping on a Negroni, and realized Rob beat me here. Damn... Negroni on a Monday is so beast though. We got a little booth in the corner, and I decided to hop on the Negroni train. I normally don't drink during the week, but sometimes the Negroni gods just force your hand. My nickname in college was actually "Post Negrone." Rob informed me that the hot chicken sandwich ($19) was the move, which checked out with my research from before dinner. I never really stop and smell the roses, as comfort is the enemy of progress, but sitting in this dimly lit dive bar sipping negronis with one of the best food creators on the internet, and someone I really look up to, forced me to have a moment of appreciation. Between bites of one of the best crispy chicken sandwiches I have ever had in my life, we were talking about writing, editing, our favorite restaurants, youtube thumbnails, algorithms, favorite authors, upcoming shoot schedules, and lofty long term goals that really had me pinching myself. Like damn I'm really doing this, you know? I felt like I was living someone else's life, not mine. I didn't even really know this was possible. We deleted these chicken sandwiches, chips and queso, and 2 rounds of negronis as the table next to us turned 2 different times. What a night, provided by an iconic ambiance, sensational chicken sandwiches, and my old friend, the negroni. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

This place has the best djs w/ contemporary hits and the food slaps! The chicken is crack fr fr. Place gets busy on weekends with a ton college kids (kind of a bummer if you’re not into that crowd) so come early if you want to sit cuz there will be no indoor seats by 7pm. Place is always packed and a great vibe.

This place has one of the best chicken sandwich and tuna melt ever. Came here with the wifey a couple of weeks back and it was packed. The drinks are insanely good — they didn’t hold back on the alcohol. Great service and prices were incredibly fair.

Michael

Relaxed atmosphere of a dive bar with killer food. First note: they have the worst Diet Coke I have ever had in my entire life. Completely flat and tastes like it came out of a dirty gun. HOWEVER every time I come here I get the chicken platter, Mac and cheese, and a tuna melt. The chicken is succulent with a beautiful breading and is piping hot every time. It is served with a sweet honey butter that goes beautifully with the biscuits as well. The biscuits are good but not mind blowing, they are small and served 3 per order. The Mac and cheese can be dry depending on the batch but this most recent visit was perfectly creamy but still firm enough to slice. It is a baked style. The tuna melt is one of my favorites in the city. It has a massive amount of tuna inside but feels lighter than others I have had. It almost takes like the tuna is whipped. I can’t figure out what they do to the tuna but it’s great. The best part about this place is that the kitchen is open late. We actually came this time because the restaurant we were trying to go to had closed their kitchen early. It’s really great having this option in the area.

Fried chicken platter was insanely good and came with the best honey butter. Beware, the drinks are strong!!! My dirty shirley was 90% dirty and 10% shirley. There are some old school games and pinball machines. Fun times!

I just don’t understand. Like how or why is it possible that this place has the most incredible chicken sandwich Ive ever tried in my life. Cheese sauce is heaven’s magma . I started at the fish tank during all my sandwich consumption. Very interesting and fantastic experience. I hope that whoever is reading this review enjoys this place as much as i did.

I went late one Sunday night and not only were they open but the kitchen was too! (I believe the kitchen closes at 1am but make sure first). I ordered a Planters punch which tastes like hurricanes from Louisiana; plus a hot fish sandwich with small fries. The fish piece was big in size and fresh off the stove, you can still see the steam. Not spicy for me but others at the table agreed it was a slow heat. Thankfully there was hot sauce for me to use. The small fries are seasoned well with a mix of crunchy bits and a decent size to share between two people. The customer service was cordial and friendly.

Stumbled on this gem while wandering the city on vacation. Southern food done right. The biscuit and fried chicken were soul-hugging, artery-questioning delicious. Cold beer on tap, old-school vibe that’s more charm than cheesy, and service that makes you feel like home. Shoutout to the curly-haired waitress who understood me and radiated warmth like she came from the South herself. 10/10 would get fried and fed again. 🍗💕

Came in on a Sunday night, place was full and lively. Bartender Wes, couldn’t have been nicer and went out of his way to make us feel at home. We were just visiting for a possible move to the area. Place has a “cheers” vibe where everyone knows each other. Cocktails are top quality to where you would pay $25 for half the price.

Late night find on a Sunday that was amazing. Birthday day night out, and food was the last thing on our minds, but I am so happy that this was the spot. Nice crowd, ambiance, and the staff was amazing and accommodating. From the bouncer , bartender, food runner, and compliments to the chef. I love fried chicken, and that's what got me to the establishment. The reviews don't lie. Healthy serving, crispy moist, and biscuits with honey butter. Finger licking good. My daughter, with her high standards on burgers, went for the bacon cheeseburger, and it was a hit. The chicken club ordered by my mom, who is definitely the picky eater, was a 2 thumbs up. Let me not forget that the drinks were really good as well. Frozen mojitos, Pina coladas, and the Rum Punch hit the spot on all fronts. If you're in the area, this is a definite must try spot. Now, on my list of faves to hit when in the area. Thanks for helping my birthday be tasty!!!

Popular in the industry. I’ve probably had 66 experiences here where I drank too much and ate too much and here we are I’m still standing. Some say best chicken sandwich in the biz. It’s pretty amazing. Never had something I didn’t like. Chilaquiles, soup, salad, all bangerz.

We were walking and stumbled, walking inside to a retro laid back bar. The first thing that caught my vibes is the reggae playing with the retro arcade and almost like you inside an old ship vibes. Once we were at the bar, the beautiful bartender asked what we wanted, but I could tell she wasn't too keen on me and homegirl but whatever. We ordered the Pina colada!!! Also, the Fried Chicken Plate w honey biscuits & sauces The mac n cheese and the black eye peas stew (need some salt & pepper). The fried chicken is a star itself....the crunch, BABY!!!! Juicy fried goodness. I'm definitely coming back. Nah, dip that chicken in the sauces. The hot and hot hot sauces are really good with it. The mac was IIGHT not my favorite. Definitely coming back for that fried chicken and Pina Colada cause it was hitting good.

Dive bar with a killer fried chicken plate. The nachos player is also very good. The drinks are meh. There is an outside patio open during the warmer months. The bartenders are cool. Know what you want before ordering do you don't black the bar. Been coming here for a while now and will always return for the fried chicken it's that good.

i’d heard from an esteemed brooklynite that the commodore was famous for its fried chicken, so that’s what i came for. i ordered their fried chicken platter (which came with buttered biscuits) and added a side of mac n cheese. i don’t think i’ve ever tasted fried chicken so divine. i was blown away by how they managed to get the skin so incredibly crispy/crunchy while keeping the meat hot, juicy, and tender. the chicken was also perfectly seasoned and every bite was a satisfying combination of texture and taste. the mac n cheese was also very well made but the chicken was really the star of the dinner. i highly recommend trying! (i still dream about eating this chicken)

The fried chicken is absolutely as good as they say it is. Cheeseburger, hot breast sandwich, and nachos, all divine. Best burger in town. Laid back and chill, with a good selection of cheap beers. Can't wait to go back!

The chicken sandwich (hot/medium breast) is phenomenal. Hot is very hot so if you're unsure go for medium which is a fruity tangy heat. Top class bar food.

Served me like they didn't really want to. Didn't sit at the bar but sat very close by. Literally no one addressed me for like 7-8 minutes, I had to initiate everything. Had nachos and a drink paid for my order and gtfo of there. Drink was good and the nachos were decent but definitely left disappointed because I visited under strong recommendations.

Been here twice in two days. The fried chicken is to die for (some of the massivest sandwiches I’ve ever seen) and oh so good. Drinks range from ok to meh (though they do have really cheap $3 beer) so unless you liek really sweet sugary cocktails stick to the fried chicken which, once again, was beyond amazing.

It's very loud, but what do you expect for a bar. The food is very good!! The fish and chicken were spicy, and the fish tacos and sandwich were zesty. Great food for the price! Cool hang out place, would definitely recommend for the chicken! It's a great hangout place with friends, just gotta be lucky to get a seat as it is usually crowded.

The restaurant was more like a dive bar. You have to order your food at the bar and they will give you a number to seat yourself. It's busy but the service from the bartenders is all right. The food was delicious. Definitely try the chicken platter and ask for the honey butter.

Great little hangout spot with reasonably priced drinks and food in ultra expensive Williamsburg. There's outdoor seating as well as decent indoor seating as well. The chicken sandwich (3.5/5) is good but lacks lots of flavor. Otherwise nice place!

The fried chicken sandwich on a biscuit was insane. Worth the drive to Brooklyn and the hunt for parking.

I loved my chicken club, it came out hot and steaming! Same with the fried chicken. On the other hand, the drinks were just ok. The piña colada was good and reminded me of the beach but the frozen margarita and vodka cooler were a little flat on flavor. The backyard was a little crowded for my preference toward the end of the meal; if you’re looking to avoid a crowd then go earlier.

Commodore is a classic spot, I come to this place almost once a month at this rate. I always have their chicken sandwiches. You can go spicy or mild and they have a good selection of alcoholic beverages to choose from including boozy slushies.

Came here in the afternoon just as the kitchen was closing. Debated for a bit and ultimately decided to stay because I’ll not be denied of my chicken sandwich lol. Started off with the Orange Julio, as if it’s the grownup Orange Julius. Two sips in and immediate brain freeze. The vibe is a bit chaotic but the bartenders did a great job making sure everyone is well-hydrated with drinks. Shortly before 5pm, my bartender gave me the food menu as if she could read my mind. I got the mild breast sandwich and a small side of fries. The sandwich came out piping hot and prolly the juiciest chicken breast I’ve ever eaten. Could it be a wet brine process..? However, the chicken was a tad too salty for my taste. Still, I inhaled the sandwich. The fries were okay..? Nothing special but an adequate companion to my sandwich. All in all, I was a very happy camper. I love the Commodore and I’ll be back for sure!

The fried chicken and a biscuit were fantastic! Definitely planning on coming back in for that! Atmosphere was pretty solid, it got really busy in the couple of hours we were there. A little frat boy/ broh'y.

I came for the fried chicken plate and it delivered. Everything else, maybe not so much. The fried chicken, as promised, is well brined and juicy, crunchy and has a ton of batter (hopefully you like that style). The plate is huge too and I ended up taking half home. The plate comes with biscuits which are ok but tastes like it was cooked a while ago, which is funny since I was there as soon as the kitchen opened at 5pm. The Mac and cheese also seemed to have been made a day ago and was lukewarm. Thankfully it reheats nicely but you don't come to the Commodore to eat food the next day. The atmosphere is that of a typical dingy bar and definitely felt like a low rent place. This feels like a late, late night place. Overall the chicken was great but everything else was eh.

We went pretty late, but luckily were able to find a booth to sit and eat at. It’s an order at the bar and the server comes to your table type spot. The medium spiced chicken sandwich was really good and filling. The burger was good as well, but their fried chicken is what they’re known for. If you’re thinking about sides, definitely get the Mac and cheese and the sautéed kale was also really tasty.

Food is excellent. This location is a great choice for very social folks who don’t mind a crowd and minimal interaction w/bartender (including cleaning). Seriously the food is great, though. I recommend this place if the vibe is what you’re ok with.

The place has great vibes, very friendly atmosphere. I got the Mac n cheese and friend green tomato sandwich. The Mac n cheese was good but the friend green tomato sandwich was not great. The tomato’s were mushy, and the sandwich itself was mostly bread and coleslaw. I was pretty disappointed and I wouldn’t really recommend it but I would come back here

Usually great for a late night chicken sandwich. Don’t understand why they put “kitchen closes at 2am” on the menus and online and to then tell you that the last call for food is at 1:30am. Might be worth changing.

Food 3/5 Ordered the chicken biscuit. Chicken was well fried and seasoned but the biscuits are a bit tough and dry. For $13, i feel it is somewhat on the pricier spectrum as its only a single piece of fried white meat sandwich with one single biscuit. Drinks 5/5 Great drinks, large selection of cocktails Ambiance 4/5 Very brooklyn kind of bar. Both outdoor and indoor dining available. First come first serve basis for outdoor. Service 4/5 Service is a bit slow but they were also really packed and full. Staff were really friendly and patient. A negative feedback was we asked for water and 2 of the cups was dirty. A card is held to keep the tab open over the duration of the meal. Everyone was wearing a mask

Came here for drinks with a group of friends on a Saturday afternoon. It was pretty busy but we were lucky enough to get a corner booth table for the 5 of us. We just got one round of drinks but really enjoyed our cocktails. I had the Bloody Mary, which was good. I think I most liked the Pina Colada that comes with an amaretto floater. We didn’t order any food this time but I’ve been here before and have always loved the nachos.

Never i man never go to an establishment and order food when theor kit hen is closing. It was my birthday so I didn't follow my own advice. A group of us ordered a burger fries and fish tacos and overly salted fries the burger very greasy but taste was spot on. I had a few so everything tasted good. The next morning we all paid for everything we ate. We couldn't leave the bathroom for hours. The dJ was DOPE he was playing all the songs for us millennials and the bar staff and patreons were cool as well. I think the kitchen just had a vengeance.

I’ve been coming here for years and I have to say I’m pretty disappointed in what it’s regressed into. I do hope they can turn it around. Starting with the service: I’m not sure why they have a phone at all if they don’t answer it. I spent $30 on an Uber to get here so that I could order takeout food only for them to tell me that their kitchen is closed at 12 on Sundays and it’s not updated on their end. That would have been really helpful to know before I ordered a car from Park Slope to patronize this establishment. The rest of this review is based on the most recent time I went and sat down to eat which was about a few weeks ago. The food: The fried chicken itself is fried too hard and lacks seasoning. The hot chicken sandwich is pretty good I would recommend that and not much else. The drinks: I remember them being a lot better. I think it’s just okay now. Still, I think the rum punch is the best drink followed by their frozen cocktails. The Commodore is not terrible or the worst by any means but it is somewhat a shell of what it used to be. I don’t know that they care all that much about improving, it seems to me they are thriving off of name recognition. Much needed improvements could turn me back into a regular. But right now I’m not seeing the vision.

The chicken sandwich (breast) was not what I expected. definitely a bit dry. The restaurant is pretty dark and loud, you go and order up front. The frozen drinks were pretty frozen that it was hard to drink.

The people were nice and the biscuits with honey were amazing. Bartender was nice too. The only problem is that I came to try their fried chicken and it was too much batter. I will leave a picture if everything that was batter. It was kind of ridiculous. If they could make that chicken with 1/5 of the batter I think it would be much better. It has an alright taste but it just kept breaking and making a mess everywhere. I kind of want to go again but I also don’t want to be disappointed again.

If I was writing on the food alone, the hot fried chicken sandwich is damn good and worth a visit. But man, that was the most tense and antagonistic interaction with a bartender we’ve experienced. Word to the wise — just scream your order at the guy even if he gives no indication that he’s paying attention or focused on you at all. Or else you should expect an earful about how inconvenienced you’ve made him every step of the way about “stacking orders” or not having your card out in a split second, Not 5 minutes later, we saw him do the same song and dance with a young woman to our left as she closed out her tab. Planned to purchase more drinks here and enjoy our dinner but decided to book it somewhere else…great food, bad experience.

Such high hopes… such a letdown. I was genuinely excited to finally try The Commodore, but unfortunately it missed the mark in a big way. Let’s start with the positives: the ambiance is great. It’s divy with a touch of chic, and the drinks are actually very good. And… that’s where the praise ends. The service was downright frustrating. We planned to grab drinks and fries at the bar, but only one of us could sit because a dog was occupying an entire bar chair. I love dogs. I have a dog. But a dog sitting on a chair at a bar where people are eating? Hard no. As a paying customer, I shouldn’t be competing with someone’s pet for seating. This should have been addressed immediately by the bartender, but it wasn’t. Speaking of bartenders; they seemed far more interested in chatting with each other than acknowledging customers. Long stretches of being ignored made the experience feel unwelcoming and sloppy. It’s a shame, because the space and drinks have potential. Unfortunately, poor service and lack of basic awareness completely overshadow it. I won’t be returning, but thankfully the neighborhood has plenty of better options that actually value their customers.

Horrible, horrible horrible service at the Commodore. I went inside to order the fried chicken, which is what they are known for while waiting on my order to be fulfilled. I asked for a glass of water from the Bartender. The bartender told me that I had to get my water from there water station, I complied. There was nowhere to sit inside the bar as the bartender told me my order would take 20 minutes to fulfill so I went outside with my cup of water water. There was also nowhere to sit outside in the designated areas that the bar had because it was packed. I went across the street to sit down and wait on my order with the cup of water. The security guard comes out and crosses the street and tells me I cannot drink the cup of water that I got from the bar on the other side of the street. I told him there was nowhere else for me to drink it because all of the places to sit were taken . He also knows that I only have water as they have designated water cups, and he can clearly see that I’m drinking water as he looked inside my glass. The security guard was extremely aggressive as I told him that I had been drinking all day and I simply needed to hydrate while I wait for my food. The security guard took my water cup and went back to the bar. Needless to say he left his job to come take a cup of water for me, While he was doing this people were going inside the bar without being ID ‘d ( his main job). Don’t come to this bar if you need water and don’t have a place to sit as the security guard will hunt you down like a dog. It was the security guard with the long gray and white beard and baldhead. Needless to say this is after I had just spent $32 on fried chicken. Update on review 10/26/24 I returned to give them another try and I was told by the security guard I am Not allowed in because of the review that I left on this site ( aka the review above ) I will now be contacting the Better Business Bureau !

The person did not take the order correctly I stated plain cheese burger with ketchup and pickles I got mustard and cucumbers. Requested the sour cream be on the side it was on the side and on the nachos. Will never return I suggest Rosa pizzera they look way more appealing. The food was meh. If I order appetizers it should not come at the same time as the meal / entrée. The drinks were meh as well. There was no honey butter for the biscuits.

I recently tried an chicken sandwich that was a major disappointment. Despite its high price, the sandwich was nearly inedible. The chicken was overly salty, masking any potential flavor it might have had. The bun was dry and lacked any redeeming qualities, making each bite a struggle. Overall, it was a letdown, proving that sometimes, even a high price tag can’t guarantee a tasty meal

I went into dine Wednesday night I am not one to leave reviews often but holy cow I have never experienced such a rude bartender in my life ! Being a native New Yorker I’m used to the occasional stern bartender but this was on another level. Slamming cups , plates and even bad mouthing one of the other customers 1. I got a snarky response upon asking if we order at the bar 2. I asked if my order can be taken then get told “I can do my job I’m what ever order I want” 3. Then upon ordering food I get asked where I’m sitting I tell him and as I’m walking back he SCREAMS “What are you doing ? Leave your card here !” in a very rude and condescending tone I tried to explain that I never paid for food at a restaurant before finishing at it just seemed strange But oh boy was he in the mood to argue , and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t lose my cool a bit myself But my experience here felt absolutely degrading and even though the food looks good , not worth the pressure and stress

I really wanted to like this place. The People are nice, but the food and particularly the chicken sandwich and chicken plate left much to be desired. After reading the reviews and combing through the pictures I thought for sure this place was going to be a hit. Unfortunately the meat had very little to no taste and not to mention the blood after taking my first bite. The sandwich definitely has potential. Just needs something. The breading is just right, it needed that extra pinch. What can I say, different strokes for different folks.

I don’t usually write reviews, but what happened to me at this bar has stuck with me—and I think it’s time to speak up. I was a regular here. I supported the space, treated the staff with kindness, and showed up in good faith every time. One day, I walked in like I always had—and was told I was 86’d. No explanation. No warning. Just cold dismissal. I later found out this likely had to do with a personal falling-out with someone connected to the staff. And while I understand life can get messy, allowing personal drama to affect how patrons are treated in a professional setting is unacceptable. Here’s the truth: I didn’t make a scene. I didn’t disrespect anyone. I didn’t even get a chance to speak. Instead of closure, I got silence. Instead of honesty, I got blocked. Instead of peace, I got banned from a place I once felt safe in. That’s not just hurtful—it’s betrayal masked as “policy.” I’m not writing this for sympathy. I’m writing this so others know: when a business allows personal bias to dictate who is welcome, it stops being a community space and becomes a clique with cocktails. This experience didn’t just bruise my feelings—it reminded me that not every space that feels warm is rooted in respect. So if you go, enjoy your drink—but know that behind the scenes, fairness might not be on the menu.

Fish tacos and cale cesar salad was good. Sandwiches were bad. But the problem is: cockroaches. We saw a big one running on the wall to the kitchen.

Ordered the grilled cheese, shrimp po boy, and fish tacos. Grilled cheese wasn’t for me but whatever. Fish tacos burnt and bland. Shrimp po Bo was half decent until I noticed the roach finishing off the sauce from the fish taco. I got up and walked out. I still want my money back but I couldn’t exist there anymore

I've been coming to The Commodore for years, so it's especially disappointing to share this experience. I came in for a food pickup recently and the quality of what I received did not match what I've come to expect from this place or what the menu promises. What made the experience even worse was the treatment I received from the male bartender. I was met with a noticeably unwelcoming and dismissive attitude that felt racially motivated. While other patrons were greeted warmly and attended to promptly, I was ignored, treated rudely, and made to feel like I didn't belong. No one should have to feel discriminated against when they're simply trying to pick up food and go about their day. As a long-time patron who has supported this establishment and recommended it to friends and family, this was a slap in the face. Between the underwhelming food and the discriminatory treatment from staff, I can no longer recommend this place. A bar can have great cocktails and trendy vibes, but none of that matters if your staff makes customers feel unwelcome based on the color of their skin. Management needs to address this it's 2026, and there's no excuse. After years of loyalty, I won't be returning. For the record I'm a Black female.
