U-Gu Brooklyn Reviews
I eat here often, and the food and service are always great. I highly recommend.
Food is so good here definitely give it a shot
It’s so good, I like the shrimp tempura and the flame dance on salmon sushi.
Great local sushi spot. Get the no. 2 and no. 5 rolls.
Friendly staff, superb rolls, sushi and ramen and clean, handicap accessable bathroom.
Omakase is off the hook, and ridiculously cheap. High quality sushi
This place was fantastic. The food was very fresh and the service was very nice.
Fresh fish, great 40 dollar sushi combos
One of my favorite sushi experiences. Amazing service and incredible food. I absolutely recommend you try them, you won't regret it.
Genuinely such a hidden gem!!! The sushi is so fresh it’s unbelievable
Quality sushi and other items at reasonable prices. Flavorful preparations. We have eaten many meals from U-gu, always very happy.
The absolute BEST sushi I've ever had, and for a fair price, too. Definitely try the On Fire sushi, quite a spectacle, and it tastes like a a cross between BBQ and Japanese cuisine
Omg. This place is amazing.. sushi was on point so delicately delicious. The journey was completely worth it.. get the 58$ special ..yea I know .. but it’s worth it..
Great service, sushi is delicious as well as the rest of the food. Servings are good and well presented. Should be your sushi go to, definitely mine!!!!
Yummy and super fresh sushi. Nice service. All around a stellar experience and great spot in the neighborhood.
Very good food. My favorite thing is Sake and Ikura which is seared salmon, roe and egg omelet over rice. Strange decor though.
Food is great. Ambiance is improving, but was never bad (I like the partition they added)... the entrance relative to the seating area is not ideal. Nice attentive staff.
Came here for dinner with my family. The food was soo good and the presentation was great we had sushi . the only draw back is that its cash only...
Fantastic place for donburi. I absolutely loved the veg donburi, and the veg maki was probably the best I've had - and my date had a full chefs choice donburi - absolutely killed it.
I highly recommend the surprise chef menu, the dishes were all great, we were truly surprised by the level of the dishes as well as the presentation. Will absolutely come back!
Best sushi I’ve had in New York. Fish is super fresh and alway tasty
I love their Spicy Shrimp/Mango Donburi bowl.
love this place. Very high quality sushi and I recommend to try suviche to everyone!
Hidden gem for sure!! Mini omakase was so delicious. Very excited to have this place nearby 😄
I finally found great superior sushi in Brooklyn!!! So good!
Best sushi I’ve had in a really long time. We ordered twelve pieces of nigiri and two sushi rolls that the chef chose for us. The quality of everything we tried was amazing, the fish was melt in your mouth fresh. The chef even upgraded our tuna at no cost. This is our new go-to spot in the neighborhood!
Friendly service, high quality sushi. A nice, cozy spot with pretty reasonable prices.
I expected a decent neighborhood sushi place with maybe a few standard vegetarian options. Instead I was surprised to find the Vegan Delight Don Buri to be downright delicious and interesting. It somehow manages to be more than the sum of its very simple ingredients with a mix of tastes and textures. Yum!
Ordered delivery from UBER EATS, let me tell you this was BY FAR the best sushi delivery I have ever gotten. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS 🤤 and looked pretty good when was packed. I will definitely order again and hope to go there and enjoy in the restaurant it self. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
This place is insane. Best sushi in the borough (at least that I've tried). As a Pratt student, super convenient as well. If you're looking for a top tier sushi spot in Clinton Hill, you've found it here.
New sushi place on Myrtle has quickly established itself as some of the best sushi around. Eat in or take out, either way you'll be satisfied. Great and friendly staff, too!
Sushi is very good, always fresh. I order from this place very often but lately portions became much smaller than usually and prices if you order from Seamless are much higher.
The food and service is always great here. Having a great sushi place around here is probably one reason why I love living around this neighborhood. You get to experience diversity and inclusivity without losing the aunthentic touch of each culture.
Surprisingly inventive sushi and better nigiri classics than almost anywhere else in brooklyn. The spicy dishes are super spicy, but trust the chef and get the very generous ugh meshi or nigiri combos. The rolls are fine but it's a waste when the chef is this talented.
This Sushi was fantastic! It was my first time here, and I will will be back several times to make my way through the menu. The hostess was extremely polite and explained the menu items to me. A+++
Their sushi tastes much better than most places, the fish is fresh and well prepared. Their takoyaki is incredible and reminds me of takoyaki from Japan. Their ramen is incredible, too. They brine their egg, adding to the flavors of the ramen.
Ordered takeout and the chef special and specialty rolls were SO good. Best takeout sushi I’ve had.
The best Chef's Sushi prepared in the whole New York to say the least. Must come and try. Also the Ramen here is outstanding 😊👌
This was one of the most delicious sushi I’ve had in the long time. Fresh, quality of fish or outstanding, while prices are definitely very reasonable Had sushi platter and spicy tuna roll and everything was perfect and memorable. Rice, fish, ratio - perfect The design is gorgeous too, very warm cozy place and those colorful lights were so welcoming. I can’t wait to return
I’d eat this every day if I can afford it. Even the rice is spot on. SUCH GREAT QUALITY fish. How they handle each sushi piece is amazing with their torching, knife skills etc. They give you real grated wasabi with the sushi set but not the rolls. It’s quite pricey when I do the sushi set and get it delivered… but I still do. This is the only solid quality real sushi in the neighborhood.
Probably the freshest salmon I’ve ever tasted in my life. I’m not a huge sushi person but this place turned me. All the rolls are incredible, especially the spicy salmon. The service is always great too.
The service and food was exceptional. The fish was extremely fresh and consistent. We had 4 sets of sashimi and they threw in an extra piece of each! The seaweed salad was a good portion as well and we enjoyed the hot sake out on the street seating.
Sushi is amazing, ramen is amazing, and the food comes out fast! Definitely ordering again in the near future. The owners are also very delightful if you have any questions about the menu items. They just relocated to take out only which is still no problem for me.
SUSHI IS YUM. the quality of the fish is really really high; just order the sushi and you’ll have a 5 star experience. also I recommend the tie guan yin milk tea too if you just want to get a drink to go. there’s a little bit of space to eat inside but you can also get it to go and go to the pratt campus nearby ^^
This has been my favorite sushi delivery for nearly two years now. I always appreciate how quick the delivery is and the high quality of the fish. I especially love the Ikura and Scallop nigiri, as well as the spicy scallop roll and the Chef’s tasting set—they never disappoint!
Absolutely fantastic. We had 3 sushi rolls that slapped. The fish was so buttery smooth and just fantastic. We also got the classic ramen, which goes so hard. The broth was rich and hearty and so comforting. The chashu was insanely flavorful. We will absolutely be back.
Sushi was so good. Top notch. I’m a past bartender who worked in a sushi restaurant for a few years. It was very good. A little pricey but I’d prefer it to be if the quality is good. It was worth it. I got the sushi tasting menu. Yum. Will definitely come again. Also, sake was great and the ambience. Cheers! Kani salad was also good.
Mostly fresh fishes, especially the fatty ones. The fatty ones are very buttery in texture. The lunch menu is different from the sushi menu but you can still ask for and order from the sushi menu. The preparation and presentation of their sushi pieces is very nice. The spring roll appetizer is great. Omakase is worth it. When you order, specify less or no wasabi if you don't like it. Milk tea is decent.
This is the most amazing japanese hidden gem in Brooklyn. From the outside, one can never imagine the impeccable food there is inside. The most fresh and well cut fish selection I have ever had in NYC. The Salmon Tataki is a must, and the sushi selection is unexplainable. My favorite japanese in NY without a doubt.
Ordered take and the food was really good. Host was not very friendly however...
good food and a nice selection of fish. service can be a little slow.
Enjoyed it. Went for lunch and had a kind of neuvo=sushi rice roll - the eel roll and shrimp & sea-leg roll. Very tasty and a little spicy. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. I'd go back
I ordered the sashimi set and two rolls. The food was fresh and nicely presented. I would come back again.
Very, very good sushi. High quality fish, inventive pairings/toppings
The sushi is always very good, and the staff is lovely. But what is with the decorations... it's like urban outfitters threw up.
Descent Local Sushi Spot for those in need of a sushi fix. fairly standard fare with most of the basic fish available. if you are looking for something exotic or the omakase vibe, this is not the place. service was good. rice was spot on.
There was some real highlights, with one noticeable disappointment. Let me start with the good: bang bang, the bomb, very fresh sashimi and sushi sets, and unagi don (generous portion). The ok: hamachichilly - fish was fresh but flavor was muddled and didn't come through with everything going on in the dish. Was quite forgettable. The bad: Sake ikura don. Made with diced COOKED salmon and very little of it. It would be so much better with fresh salmon. We got it after the unagi don was such a hit. We were so disappointed when we saw this served.
Love the fact that there was no wait on a Saturday afternoon. Sushi was good, atmosphere was clean and comfortable, and the staff was friendly. The lunch special alone is worth the visit.
Fish is pretty good quality and seems fresh. But weirdly every roll is sweet? Even a very basic spicy tuna roll came with fried onion and eel sauce on it... Takes away from the roll.
I've been here 5 times and like this place but price keeps on changing everytime. The first time I came here the "Surprise Me" was $24 or $25. I came back with my co-workers the same week and it changed to $30 but if u ordered online it was $28. 10 days later my friends wanted to go and it was $40. The service is decent since we usually go for early dinner but please make up your mind about your prices. It can be a big turn off to people which was clearly reviewed on yelp. Their sushi is decent and presentation is simple and nice. You can't compare their sushi grade to high end Manhattan famous establishment which other reviewers are doing. I do recommend this place for a decent sushi fix and not having to break the bank. Took off 1 star for constant price change.
scallop roll is sooo good, but the sushi burritos could use some work :))
The sushi here is decent and affordable and the service is attentive. I would recommend the donburi bowls above any other items.
The food was as good as you’d expect for the price. Notably, they don’t allow you to split the bill. I understand the cost of CC transactions, I know there are a lot of Pratt students in the area and I get cost cutting strategies but for two parties who spent over $200, it’s an excessive policy against the convenience. Vote with your fork, as they say.
Sushi bowl was great, service was typical low key Asian, and they cannot split a check in half. I asked the server if the pork buns were rice or wheat. Her suggestion: worried about gluten, then don't eat these. Hmm, why not just ask the chef?
The food is great, but the staff is not super friendly and the music is trash and super loud. We had to tell then to turn down the bass as they were playing loud electronic music over lunch. The interior is also very very strange. Not sure if I’m on a ship, in a barn or in a suburban home belonging to someone with poor taste. If you want some good sushi in tasteless surroundings, this is the place you. Also, bring cash.
Great and fast service, too bad the ramen was the worst I ever had. Won’t order to go again.
I've ordered from this spot using meal delivery apps & have had my order messed up (without a refund) multiple times. It's also a tad expensive & might be better in person, but I wouldn't recommend ordering from them online 😞
Unfortunately this place went down hill. I just got my delivery order and the fish tasted old and the rolls were just plain awful. They used fake crab and not real crab which for what they are charging is disturbing.
Food is fine however customer service is not. Maybe hire someone who can speak English to say whether you can or cannot switch orders from pick up to delivery.
This shopkeeper's stalls treat delivery men very badly.
Worst ramen I've ever had. That includes all the instant ramen I've had. No bueno.
I ordered a Ramen and was very bad. Nothing inside almost, a lot of noodles and that's all. The Soul taste, content. No a really good experiencie in general. I leave so sad from there. I didn't eat and enjoy .
Trash. Ordered delivery and it came in 10 minutes because everything is premade and the tempura is frozen. Sugar in all the sauces. TOTAL RIPOFF
Sadly this restaurant is closed </3 best sushi in the neighborhood, RIP
The worst ramen I’ve ever had in my life. So disappointing. It was literally corn and noodles, 1 egg and 4 small shrimps and water with salt. Tasteless. It’s a disrespect to the idea of ramen. And the cherry on top - we paid 18 dollars for that ramen (the total check was 88 dollars).
