The Blackthorn Restaurant & Pub Buffalo Reviews
We were staying with friends in Angola and they suggested the Blackthorn for lunch. This is a great Irish bar/restaurant. When you walk in they have emergency services patches displayed on multiple walls as well as dress caps and fire helmets which to me means this place respects first responders and is also a working mans place which is the type of place I like to patronize. We were led up the stairs into the dining area which was very comfortable. The service was on point and the food was fantastic from the appettizers to the entrees. The beer was cold and the bill was more than fair, what more could you ask for !
We ate outside in an igloo before Christmas! The service was wonderful and the food was yummy! We enjoyed the Buffalo sampler platter, French onion soup and the Reuben sammy. Would love to eat inside next time. Felt like an inviting neighborhood spot!
I went here 3 times on a short weekend to see Chiefs vs Bills. The food was incredible every time and service was great! Fish fry Friday was excellent. The homemade tator tots were not what I was expecting but in a good way, super delicious. I also commend the wings and meatloaf. They also had a great fall cocktail menu. Would highly recommend if you’re in the area!
My husband and I came here for dinner last Friday. Normal pub atmosphere when you walk in. Bar is in the lower level and seating for the restaurant is above. Cozy seating area. Each table has its own lamp. Maxed a nice ambiance. We started with the sift pretzels as an appetizer. A+. I ordered the filet and my husband got the meatloaf. The steak was perfection. Cooked just as asked. My husband enjoyed his meal also. We were so full we had no room for dessert! That was our 1st time there and definitely won't be our last. I highly recommend you try this hidden gem!!
Our experience at this establishment was excellent from start to finish. The atmosphere was inviting, the food was outstanding, and the service was exceptional. Our waitress, Megan, provided attentive and impeccable customer service, which truly enhanced our evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our date night and look forward to returning.
My wife and I visited here on a Friday afternoon. To start I had a Smithwick's Irish Red Ale. It was refreshing. My wife had the Irish Beer Cheddar Soup, and the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich. She said both were very good. I had the Beer-Battered Fish Fry with French Fries only. Excellent portion size of fish and the fries were very crunchy. The restaurant has a nice relaxing pub style atmosphere with a comfortable fireplace and intimate bar. They also have an outdoor patio area too. Our server was Shannon. She was very friendly and efficient with our order. I would recommend the Blackthorn for a nice relaxing meal of Irish favorites like Shepherd's Pie and Cornbeef, and other delicious meals.
Ordered the oversized fish fry that comes with the trifecta: Coleslaw, Mac salad, and a choice of potato. Fish was fantastic with what appeared to be an in-house made tarter sauce, so good. Finally made it here to knock off a restaurant on the wing trail but the fish looked too good to pass up. So, we'll be back for the wings another day.
We ordered take out for lunch. The food was hot and delicious. We wanted to try this restaurant because they were on Diner's, Drive-Ins, and Dives. The food was amazing. We tried the Irish Beer Cheddar Soup, the Corned Beef and Cabbage Egg Rolls, The Pub "Kev's Favorite", and the Beef on Weck. Everything was great, the egg rolls and the Weck bread were my favorite part. Heads up, the Irish Beer Cheddar soup is a little spicy, we were not expecting that, but still good.
I stumbled across this little pub with my friends and we weren’t too hungry so we ordered all apps but they were large servings which we enjoyed very much! Food was good and well priced. We ordered the soft pretzel, chicken tenders and fries, and the spinach and artichoke dip! I really enjoyed how the artichoke dip came with bread AND chips. Everything was great!
We stopped in for lunch. We intended to go to Bratts Hill & didnt know theybdidnt serve sit down dinning at lunch so left. Found this place on line, once there we were hoping it would be more like the dinner atmosphere. The of us each ordered a different salad & all of them were delicious! Ordered shrimp cocktail, they were not all same size & some had the tails & others not. Would not order this again. We tried the fries. Its a huge potato wedged, deep fried & served w/3 different sauces. These were delicous, a must!! We would definitely go back for lunch! Also can't wait to try dinner, just know that doesn't start till 4 or 5?
Was very impressed with the service and the food . I have been here multiple times in the past . Today was my wife’s first experience here and she also enjoyed it very much . Definitely recommend the French onion and corn chowder . We also did the pretzels the mustard was great the cheese definitely needs work. We decided on the meatloaf and the pot roast special. The pot roast was great the meatloaf was burnt again this is my second time having it and both times it was burnt and not like enjoyable burnt edges . I don’t know why I thought hey maybe it was a bad day but apparently that’s the way it is . Other then that everything else was great
This place is absolutely phenomenal. The French Onion Soup was the best I have ever had. The wings are good, the beef on Weck was good and Beer Cheese Soup was one of a kind and it was also great!. I spent 2 hours trying to pick a place to eat in Buffalo and am definitely happy with my pick!

We were doing a "wing crawl" at various bars and restaurants. The adult beverages were fine, you really can't go wrong with beer. But, we went there for the buffalo wings. Of the 6 places we went to over 3 days, the wings were as good as any, so tied for the best. I'd say a 10. Surprisingly, the place where they were "invented" got no better than a 7 by comparison. It's a bar, with food, but looks safe and was clean and well run.
First time having beef on weck and it was awesome. The cheddar potato soup, homemade tots were awesome as well. Tried their poutine as well...I thought it was good but my daughter said she has had better. I'd give this place 5 stars across the board except the men's room was kind of gross.
Once again the blackthorn did not disappoint, the south Buffalo souvlaki was the choice for lunch today, a heaping bowl of salad with some grilled chicken (which was on the very well done side) and a…

Our waiter was very good. The atmosphere was pleasant. But in our group of 4, no one enjoyed their food. The reuben corned beef was not like real corned beef but instead, sliced deli meat. It wasn't terrible but I expect real corned beef at an Irish pub. I remember having a great reuben there years ago. The bread was a very plain rye that resembled white bread. The fish sandwich had a bone in it. The clam chowder was okay. The glass of cranberry juice tasted like it was stored in a musty basement. We didn't complain. Maybe we should have but what could we say? . . . No one likes their food? It was edible but nothing to make us return or recommend.
Stay away\nThey do not stand behind their promotions, Case in point - Buy a $100 GC and receive one for $120. Tried to buy a $300 on the website says you get $360. Called the restaurant and tried to …
